Denmark is a Schengen State and has some specific visa guidelines. Kindly go through the following note:
Schengen Territory: The citizens of India can get short stay visa for a period that ranges from one to ninety days, which will be valid for all countries of the Schengen Territory i.e. Austria, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden & Switzerland. The Schengen Convention is an innovative initiative taken for freedom of circulation of people. According to the same, foreigners having a valid stay permit delivered by one of the Schengen states can leave and later re-enter the Schengen Territory without taking visa again, but with a condition that they have a valid passport along with relevant travel document and a multiple entry visa. However, application for visas have to be submitted with the relevant Consular authorities, which are to be determined according to the following criteria
1. If the applicant intends to stay in one country only, the application should be submitted at the Representation of the same country.
2. If the applicant intends to travel to more than a few member States, the application should be submitted at the Representation of the country where the main point of travel lies mentioning the duration of stay.
3. If the main destination cannot be determined, the competent Consular office for processing the application will be one of the countries of the first port of entry into the Schengen Territory.
4. The long term visas are still subject to the Law of the country of destination. They must be applied for at the Consular Authorities of the concerned member of the states.
Note: Applicants must make sure that Air Ticket, Invitation, Insurance and Covering Letter should have matching dates. To submit the visa application, the Applicant needs to fix a prior appointment, and on the appropriate date fixed by the Embassy, needs to appear with all Pax details.

Tourist Visa

Applicant can visit Denmark just as a tourist or a business visitors.
  • Duly filled and signed (by the applicant) Visa Application form and Data Protection form.
  • Two latest passport-size photographs (3.5cm x 4.5cm) in colour with good resemblance, 60-80% face coverage. Photographs should not be older than 3 months.
  • The validity of the passport should be at least three months (any other type of travel document should be valid for at least six months), beyond the desired duration of stay in the Schengen territory. The passport should also have at least two blank pages to attach the visa. Passports with validity of over 10 years will not be accepted as the main required travel document.
  • Applicants need to attach the colour photocopy of the passport (all pages of the passport) while submitting the application form. In addition, applicants holding valid visa for USA / UK / Canada & Denmark even in old passport and any Schengen visa issued in past three years also need to submit the colour photocopy of the passport at the time of submission of the application.
  • Applicant also need to submit a covering letter introducing himself / herself and mentioning the purpose, duration and itinerary of the visit (in brief).
  • The confirmed return air ticket should be attached with the visa application form. People joining a cruise liner in their onward journey need to provide the ticket and payment receipt.
  • In addition, one must obtain Overseas Travel Medical Insurance i.e. valid across all Schengen countries .The insurance must cover the Applicant for all kind of risks such as accidents, illness, and medical-emergency evacuation for an amount of at least 30,000 Euros or equivalent. The insurance policy should clearly specify the period of validity, covering the total duration including the date of arrival and departure.
Approved list of Indian Travel Insurance Companies offering Travel Medical Insurance for Schengen Visa:
  • Apollo Munich for the age group of 6 months to 70 years.
  • Bajaj Allianz for the age group of 6 months to 70 years.
  • Future Generali for the age group of 6 months to 55 years.
  • HDFC Ergo for the age group of 3 months to 70 years.
  • ICICI Lombard for the age group of 3 months to 51 years.
  • IFFCO Tokio for the age group of 3 months to 70 years.
  • National for the age group of 6 months to 80 years.
  • Reliance for the age group of 3 months to 70 years.
  • Royal Sundaram for the age group of 3 months to 70 years.
  • Tata/AIG for the age group of 6 months to 55 years.

In case of minors (< 18 years), who are travelling alone:
  • A letter of consent (affidavit) from both the parents with their signatures is to be attached.
  • A photocopy of both parents' passports.
  • A photocopy of Birth certificate of applicant

In case of a minor traveling with one parent, all the above documents of the other parent need to be submitted along with the application form. For frequent travelers: (In addition to the above documents): In case of visit is being sponsored by a guarantor / Iceland / reference in Denmark, the guarantor / reference is needed to furnish the following documents:

  • A sponsorship letter (not older than 6 months) given by the reference in Denmark.
  • The sponsorship letter to particularly mention the applicant's name, address, relationship with the guarantor / reference, time duration of stay & the nature of costs being sponsored.

For Non frequent travelers: (In addition to the above): Incase of visit is being sponsored by a guarantor / reference in Denmark / Iceland, the guarantor/reference need to furnish the following documents:

  • A sponsorship letter (not older than 6 months) given by the reference in Denmark.
  • The sponsorship letter must specially mention the applicant's name, address, and relationship with the guarantor / reference (proof to be attached), time duration of stay with the guarantor / reference & the nature of costs being sponsored.
  • A photocopy of the passport (in case of a Danish / Icelandic guarantor / reference) & a copy of the residence and / or work permit (in case of a guarantor / reference being of any other nationality i.e., non Danish / Icelandic).
  • A copy of Marriage Certificate- in case the applicant is visiting the spouse living in Denmark.
  • A copy of Birth Certificate- in case the applicant is visiting parents, who are living in Denmark.
Evidence of source of Financial Support such as:
  • Bank statements (Internet Bank Statements will not be accepted. Only Bank Statement with name of the bank, branch address, contact number, applicant's & company's name, address, account number would be accepted) for past six months / Credit card statement / Sponsor letter / Foreign exchange should be endorsed on the passport.
  • In case applicant is the proprietor / owner of the company, the company's bank statements, proof of paid income tax returns, company memo, partnership deal, establishment license or proprietorship etc. will be required.
  • A valid proof of employment & sanctioned leave letter on company's letter head. In case of a student, an approved leave letter / report card issued from School and ID is to be attached with the application form.
  • Two photocopies of first & last page of the passport will be required.
  • After submitting application, applicant could be asked for additional documents or may be called for a personal interview, if desired by The Embassy of Denmark, New Delhi.
    If the applicant is using the services of a Travel Agent, a Letter addressed to the embassy authorizing the travel agent to submit and collect documents on his behalf, is needed to be signed from him / her.
One should note that in case of non frequent travelers, the travel medical insurance and the air ticket is not required at the time of submission of the visa application because the application might have to be referred to the Danish Immigration Service, Copenhagen for consideration. However, after the approval of the Danish Immigration Service, the requisite documents (insurance & air ticket) have to be submitted.
Note:
  • All Green Card applicants and their dependants need to pay the following verification charges at the time of submitting their application:
  • Verification Charges for Green Card applicant - Rs. 7304/- per applicant (inclusive of taxes).
  • Verification Charges for dependants of Green Card holder / applicant - Rs. 2107/- per dependant (Inclusive of taxes).
  • These charges have to be paid in cash at the time of submitting the application.
  • Exemption of the visa fee for a child is only applicable for the Short Term category, and if the child's age is less than 6 years at the time of submission.
  • Applicants applying at the Danish visa application centre shall be levied a service charge of Rs. 1595/- (inclusive of service tax 12.36% & education cess) payable in cash. There is also an option of courier facility available at Rs.350/- (Inclusive of Service Tax 12.36%) per application.
  • The visa fee needs to be paid in cash only.
Note:

It should also be noted that all visa applications which do not meet Embassy requirements are sent to the Danish Immigration Service for approval and can take up to 6 to 8 weeks for processing. Even if all the requirements are met, the Embassy may, at its discretion, send the visa application to Denmark for visa approval.

Business Visa

Business Visa
  • Duly filled and signed (by the applicant) Visa Application form and Data Protection form.

A covering letter from the Indian organization or company mentioning following details is to be submitted:
  • The name and designation of the Applicant, and of the Signatory (of managerial or executive level) with their signature.
  • A summarized travel itinerary of applicant, his / her purpose of visit, names and addresses of the companies he / she will be visiting.
A duly signed invitation letter from the Danish / Icelandic company containing following details:
  • Name of the invited applicant
  • Dates of the intended stay
  • Purpose of the visit

In addition, one must obtain Overseas Travel Medical Insurance i.e. valid across all Schengen countries .The insurance must cover the Applicant for all kind of risks such as accidents, illness, and medical-emergency evacuation for an amount of at least 30,000 Euros or equivalent. The insurance policy should clearly specify the period of validity, covering the total duration including the date of arrival and departure.

The application should be attached with a Medical Declaration.
The Travel itinerary or copy of bookings (hotel and transport / air tickets) should also be attached with application form.
The proof of funds for stay or evidence of source of financial support should also be attached. The documentary proofs can be:
  • Bank statements (Internet Bank Statements will not be accepted. Only Bank Statement with name of the bank, branch address, contact number, applicant's & company's name, address, account number would be accepted) for past three months / sponsor letter / Foreign exchange should be endorsed on the passport.
  • In case, the Applicant is the proprietor / owner of the company, Company's bank statements, proof of paid income tax returns, company memo, partnership deal, establishment license or proprietorship etc should be attached.
  • In case, if the visit is being sponsored by the Company, a sponsorship Letter with full details and original bank statements for past 6 months with bank seal on it of the company need to be attached.
  • In case of first visit to Denmark, in addition to the business correspondence with the concerned Danish / Icelandic Company, a copy of relevant and recent educational certificates should also be attached as support document (only the highest degree)
If applicant is a frequent traveler than a declaration form of Medical Travel Insurance needs to be filled and signed by him / her.
  • If the applicant is using the services of a Travel Agent, a Letter addressed to the embassy authorizing the travel agent to submit and collect documents on his behalf, is needed to be signed from him / her.
  • An Authorization Letter (addressed to VFS Application Centre) is to be submitted from the Applicant on the companies' letterhead, authorizing the Agency and the name of the staff. He/she must carry a Photo-Identity proof to deposit and collect documents on the Applicant's behalf.
  • Once issued, the visa remains valid for a maximum period of 6 months and allows for a maximum stay of 90 days.
  • One must note that applicant could be asked for some additional documents or can be called for an Interview, if desired by The Royal Danish Embassy, New Delhi.
  • The visa processing time takes up to 7 to 10 working days.
Note:

The passport should also have at least two blank pages to attach the visa. Passports with validity of over 10 years will not be accepted as the main required travel document.
  • Applicants need to attach the colour photocopy of the passport (all pages of the passport) while submitting the application form. In addition, applicants holding valid visa for USA / UK / Canada & Denmark even in old passport and any Schengen visa issued in past three years also need to submit the colour photocopy of the passport at the time of submission of the application.

A covering letter from the Indian recruiting company, mentioning the applicant's name and rank, date of joining vessel, the name and address of the handling agent in Denmark.
  • A confirmed air ticket.
  • A copy of the contract / appointment letter.
  • A confirmation by letter / fax from port agent in Denmark.
  • A photo copy of all the filled out pages of CDC.
The processing time of the visa can take up to 7 to 10 working days.
Moreover, it should be noted that the applicant can be asked for additional documents or may be called for an Interview if desired by The Embassy of Denmark, New Delhi. The visa fee, as per the Schengen regulations, is non-refundable.

Airport Transit Visa

  • According to a general rule, Indian nationals need to obtain a visa prior traveling in transit through a Danish airport irrespective of a change of aircraft. An airport transit visa entitles the holder to enter the international transit area of the airport, but not the territory of Denmark. In addition, the passport must be authorized with a valid visa or residence permit for the country of final destination.
  • However, Indian nationals holding a Residence Permit in an EU or an EEA country, USA or Canada are exempt from airport transit visas provided that they hold a re-entry permit to the country of residence. This permit should be valid for at least 3 months after expiry of the airport transit visa.
  • Moreover, Indian nationals holding a valid visa to an EU or an EEA country, Switzerland, USA or Canada are also exempt from airport transit visas.
  • Applicants applying for airport transit visa at the Danish visa application centre shall be levied a service charge of Rs. 1595/- (inclusive of service tax 12.36% & education cess), which will be payable in cash

Seamen Visa

  • A duly filled and signed (by the applicant) Visa Application form and supplementary form.
  • Two latest passport-size photographs (3.5cm x 4.5cm) in colour with good resemblance, 60-80% face coverage. Photographs should not be older than 3 months.
  • The validity of the passport should be at least three months (any other type of travel document should be valid for at least six months), beyond the planned duration of stay in the Schengen territory. Work Permit Visa

Since 20th May, 2012, the Danish Embassy has introduced biometrics for all the long term applications. Biometrics should have digital photos, fingerprints and signatures. To furnish the same, when an applicant goes to the visa application centre to submit a residence / work permit application, he / she will need to have his / her biometric data recorded. Applicant must remove any henna on fingertips, or allow it to lighten, as it may prevent from getting a clear scan.
Every applicant submitting a residence permit application need to attend the visa application centre physically. Children of less than 6 years must attend the application centre, but are do not need to have fingerprints or signature recorded, only a photograph will work.
At present, the VFS Denmark application center will record biometrics for all long term applications at Delhi, Mumbai & Chennai only. The biometric will not be recorded at Kolkata application center, so the applicants applying under long term category need to submit the application at one of the above mentioned location.
The application should be attached with the below-mentioned documents:
  • The validity of the passport should be at least three months (any other type of travel document should be valid for at least six months), beyond the planned duration of stay in the Schengen territory. The passport should also have at least two blank pages to attach the visa. Passports with validity of over 10 years will not be accepted as the main required travel document.
  • Applicants need to attach the colour photocopy of the passport (all pages of the passport) while submitting the application form. In addition, applicants holding valid visa for USA / UK / Canada & Denmark even in old passport and any Schengen visa issued in past three years also need to submit the colour photocopy of the passport at the time of submission of the application.
  • Two latest passport-size photographs (3.5cm x 4.5cm) in colour with good resemblance, 60-80% face coverage. The photograph should not be older than 3 months. Also, one photo should be attached to the personal data card in appendix 1.
  • The Employment Contracts and job descriptions (not more than 30 days old) should be attached with the application. The Danish Immigration Service recommends that standard contracts from the relevant industry should be used.
  • The applicant should attach documentation for educational background (copies in authorized Danish or English translation).
  • The applicant should submit documentation for authorization (only if the job requires Danish authorization). Read more about authorization at www.newtodenmark.dk/positivelist Additional documents as the case may be (specified in the instructions given).
  • If in case the Applicant's position in Denmark does not fall under the Positive List or the Pay Limit Scheme or is a trainee position the Employer must provide, a declaration including certification from the local employment office (job centre) that the Employer has sought to fill the position with someone from Denmark or the EU (appendix 2).
  • If the Applicant is going to work as a trainee, the Employer need to provide a description of the Training Programmer that will be included.
  • The visa processing time can take up to 7 to 10 working days.
Note: To get the quickest response- In order to get the quickest response to an application, the applications should be completed correctly and all necessary documents need to be enclosed.

Residence Permit (Work) Visa

  • All basic application documents are same as above with a "Solemn Declaration" form in person assuming full responsibility for all information provided.
  • The application should be attached with a work contract signed by the Employer and the Applicant.
  • The applicant needs to attach the colour photocopy of the passport (all pages of the passport) at the time of submission. Applicants holding valid visa for USA/UK/Canada & Denmark even in old passport and any Schengen visa issued in last three years, have to submit the colour photocopy at the time of submission.
  • The application should be attached with the Employer's residence status and business registration documents.
  • If the Applicant is paying for the trip to Denmark, the proof of Applicant's financial means is required.
  • The visa processing time is 7 to 10 working days.
  • However, this visa is referred to the Immigration Service in Denmark, and can take a minimum of 2 to 3 months for approval. After getting the approved, the processing time will be 48 hours.
  • Applicants applying at the Danish visa application centre will be liable to pay a service charge of Rs. 1595/- (inclusive of service tax 12.36% & education cess). This amount should be paid in cash only.

Residence Permit (Study) Visa

Since 20th May, 2012, the Danish Embassy has introduced biometrics for all the long term applications. Biometrics should have digital photos, fingerprints and signatures. To furnish the same, when an applicant goes to the visa application centre to submit a residence / work permit application, he / she will need to have his / her biometric data recorded. Applicant must remove any henna on fingertips, or allow it to lighten, as it may prevent from getting a clear scan.
Every applicant submitting a residence permit application need to attend the visa application centre physically. Children of less than 6 years must attend the application centre, but are do not need to have fingerprints or signature recorded, only a photograph will work.
At present, the VFS Denmark application center will record biometrics for all long term applications at Delhi, Mumbai & Chennai only. The biometric will not be recorded at Kolkata application center, so the applicants applying under long term category need to submit the application at one of the above mentioned location.
  • All basic application documents are same as above with a "Solemn Declaration" form in person assuming full responsibility for all information provided.
  • The application should be attached with a work contract signed by the Employer and the Applicant.
  • The applicant needs to attach the colour photocopy of the passport (all pages of the passport) at the time of submission.
