Akshardham Temple

It is one of the must visit temples in Delhi. Akshardham Temple is not just a temple but also an example of outstanding architectural marvel; it is nestled near the Common Wealth Games Village on NH 24. Moreover, the temple is dedicated to Swaminarayan Akshardham. This temple houses a large complex which includes beautiful gardens where light and sound shows are organized every evening. Apart from this, one can here easily have a look at the rich collection of Indian culture.

Bhairon Temple

Bhairon Temple or Shri Kilkari Bhairav Temple is nestled in the backyard of the Old Fort which is situated in Pragati Maidan. According to the locals, the temple is built by the Pandavas and is one of its kind temples as it allows devotees to offer alcohol to the deity “Bhairon”.  This interesting temple has two wings one is the Doodhiya Bhairav Temple, where devotees offer milk to the idol and other one is Kilkari Bhairav Temple where the devotees offer alcohol. Moreover, another amazing fact associated with this temple is that the great Bheem (one of the Pandavas) worshipped in this temple and has also attained siddhis.

Hanuman Mandir, Connaught Place

It is believed that this temple is amongst those five temples which were built during the time of Mahabharata. This temple is situated on the Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Connaught Place and is one of the most famous temples in Delhi. The presiding deity in the temple is Lord Hanuman. The current structure of the temple had been reconstructed by Maharaja Jai Singh in the year 1724 and the temple welcomes large number of devotees on every Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Gauri Shankar Temple

It is another ancient temple which is located near the Digambar jain Temple on the main Chandni Chowk Road. Interesting fact associated with this temple is that the temple is believed to be built by a soldier who had vowed that he will construct a temple if he will overcome the injury he suffered in the war. This temple is one of the major temples in Delhi. Moreover, the temple welcomes large number of devotees on Mondays.

Hanuman Mandir, Jhandewalan

It is another famous temple in Delhi and this enticing shrine is marked by the colossal 108ft statue of Lord Hanuman which is even visible from Jhandewalan & Karol Bagh Metro Station as well. The temple is usually crowded on Tuesdays, despite the fact that it remains open every day. The entrance of this temple is also unique as it is in the shape of the mouth of the deity which is another reason which magnetizes the devotees.

Sai Baba Mandir, Lodhi Road

Lodhi Road’s Sai Baba Mandir is one of the oldest temples dedicated to Sai Baba. It is a simple yet majestic temple and according to devotees the divine presence of Sai baba is felt many times since the time temple was built. Moreover, the temple houses big idol of Sai Baba which sits in the main hall and devotees offer chadar and flowers to the idol. The temple receives large number of devotees on every Thursday.

Shri Jagannath Mandir, Hauz Khas

This temple is the replica of Old Jagannath Temple which is situated in Puri and is nestled in Hauz Khas. The main deity here is Lord Jagannath and the temple is highly revered by the Oriya community. Moreover, other than Lord Jagannath idol the temple has the idols of Lord Balabhadra, Maa Subhadra & Sudarshan Chakra. The best time to visit this temple is during the Rath Yatra festival which is celebrated with pomp.

Shri Sheetla Mata Mandir

It is situated on Sheetla Mata Road near Gurgaon Railway Station. It is one of the most famous temples in Delhi area and is dedicated to Sheetla Mata who is the wife of Guru Dronacharya. The temple is large but is nestled in the congested area of the city. Moreover, devotees visiting the temple are not allowed to touch the idol but they can offer flowers and do prayers by standing at a particular distance.

ISKCON Temple, East of Kailash

ISKCON is a highly renowned temple in Delhi and is known for its massive structure which is a true architectural beauty. It is situated on Hare Krishna Hill in East of Kailash and is designed by famous architect Achyut Kanvinde. The temple houses a massive hall which has been embossed with scenes depicted from the great epic Mahabharata. Moreover, the temple houses a museum as well where the devotees can get copies of Bhagvad Gita in any language.

Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir

It is another red structure in Old Delhi after Red Fort which one can’t ignore. This 17th century temple is a red stone structure and is situated just opposite the Lal Qila and is one of the famous & biggest Jain temples in the city. The temple houses three main chambers where the statues of various Tirthankars are placed and amongst them the famous ones are that of Lord Mahavira and Lord Adinath.

Chhatarpur Mandir

Chhatarpur temple is another popular temple in Delhi which is known for its colossal complex. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani & the temple complex is sprawled over 70 acres. The temple is a perfect example of Southern & Northern Indian architectural styles and the temple houses 20 major and minor temples in the complex with idols of Hindu Gods like Rama, Radha-Krishna, Lord Shiva and Laxmi. Moreover, the 100ft tall Hanuman statue is one of the most astounding attractions of the temple.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple

It is also known as Birla Mandir and is situated on the west of Connaught Place on the Mandir Marg. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu and is constructed by the famous industrialist B.D Birla in 1930s. The intricate designs on the walls and pillars, gorgeous garden in the premises with artificial caves, cascading waterfalls and fountains, a life size horse drawn chariot are some of the major attraction of this temple.
