Check your passport validity tonight, not at the airport. It needs at least 6 months validity from your travel date. Visa requirements vary wildly by destination, so look those up well in advance — not the night before.

Lounges are more accessible than most people realize. If you have a premium credit card, check if it includes lounge access — many do and people forget to use it. It's a noticeably better way to wait, especially on a long layover.
