Independence Day in 2019 can be extended into a long weekend if your employer allows you to take an extra off on Friday. Almost every part of India has witnessed a freedom movement and there are many historical places in the country that can be visited on Independence Day. Delhi

Whenever we talk about Independence Day, Delhi flashes in our mind with views of its different heritage structures. Delhi is the place where our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru gave his first Independence Day speech. Allahabad

Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is the city of Sabarmati Ashram, which was one of the hubs of the Indian freedom movement. Sabarmati Ashram is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River, which was called as Satyagraha Ashram. From Barrackpore in Kolkata, freedom fighter Mangal Pandey raised his voice and started the first rebel against British Empire. In Mangal Pandey Garden, he was hung but it created a revolt in the whole country.

Independence Day in Mumbai is celebrated amongst tight securities with much zeal, patriotic feelings and enthusiasm of being Indian. The public day comes with events like parades, air shows, fireworks and musical concerts. Amritsar 


Punjab has produced some of bravest freedom fighters in the history of freedom movement of India. Port Blair


Port Blair is home to the Cellular Jail, the notorious colonial prison where our freedom fighters and activists were sent for hardcore imprisonment. Many rebellions were executed here by the British. Presently, the monument serves as a national memorial monument but by visiting this jail, you would realize that what cost our warriors had paid to give us this freedom. You should definitely plan your visit to Port Blair on Independence Day. 

Jhansi 


Jhansi is the place that has witnessed the first war of independence in the year 1857. It is the city of the famous queen ‘Rani Laxmibai’ who fought against the British and challenged them with her bravery. The city features the famous Jhansi Fort that has played important role in the history of Jhansi. So, it turns out to be a perfect place to visit on Independence Day.
