Mt Rigi and Lucerne Day Trip from Zurich With Boat Ride

Mot a great day

NOTHING 😢 Raining and we were told to go up to Mt Rigi, had we known we could have stayed on the cogwheel train and taken it immediately back down and boarded our boat to shop in Lucerne, we would have done so. It would have Made our day better. At least we could have had more time shopping. By The time we got off of our boat, we only had about 40 minutes to shop once we found where they were. It also would’ve been nice to be given the option ahead of time by our guide to continue on to Lucerne with the rest of the group had we known it was going to be that bad up on Mount Regis we would’ve never went. We almost cancelled the Mt Titlus tour because the guide for Mt Regi said since it was going to be 45 it would even worse than Mt Regi SO HAPPY WE DIDN’T it was a Fantastic Day and we had a Great Time. To summit up, we know that you cannot control the weather, but if there is other options available, we feel they should be given.

Fun activities but guide caused issues

We really enjoyed the activities of the trip but the guide had minimal and non accurate communication throughout the trip that made the experience more stress than it should have been. At the train on the mountain, our guide came to us and told us not to get on the first train. I watched shortly after as he himself got on the first train without saying anything to our group and several groups. Luckily we decided to get on right before it left. On the way down, we asked the guide several times which train to take, he seemed very confused and again did not give us and other groups clear information. After the last train incident, we watched him to see what train he entered and got on that one. At the ferry, he told us to sit anywhere and he would come by with tickets. We had just barely made the fairy and he never came by with tickets. We sat up top and were told a short while later by an employee of the boat that this was first class and we had to pay extra. At no time did our guide tell us or other groups this. After asking the guide why this information was not told to us, he stated that he told everyone and maybe I was not listening to him which was not accurate as again other groups were with us. The worst part of the trip came on the way back when the bus we were told to get on was overbooked which I’m not sure how that could even happen. Several people had to go to another bus and multiple groups were unable to sit together. On top of that, the tour guides told us we needed to be safe and all have our seatbelts on as the tour guide we had was sitting on the step of the bus as it’s moving probably because the bus was too full. The one thing you expect out of a tour is organization and communication and this tour did not seem to have either.

The tour guide only drove...

The tour guide only drove us to a cable car stop at the beginning and picked us from Lucerne at the end of the tour. We were on our own doing all the transfers and toured the places. It will be nice if the tour guide was with us and guided us all the time when we toured Mt. Rigi and Lucerne.

A MUST, DO NOT MISS THIS

Phenomenal, an absolute MUST while in Switzerland. Mountain View’s plus a boat ride? Lucerne felt like a dream.

The breathtaking views...

The breathtaking views that photos could not truly capture! Everything went extremely smooth with the transportation from one mode to the next. Very efficient tour and although a long tour went very quickly!

Excellent day trip

Excellent excursion breath taking views of Mount Rigi and Lake Lucern. Very well planned and executed trip. Our guide and driver conart was very knowledgeable and kind. Ot to mention weather was excellent. Will recommend a must for anyone vising zurich or lucern.

Best day of my life!

It is very hard to choose the favourite soot as each and every place we visited was like a dream come true!! We were lucky to find snow at Mt Rigi which was the icing on the cake. Lucerne is a must visit town in Switzerland! From cable car to boat ride, everything was absolutely perfect. Highly recommended !!

Eye candy mental therapy day excursion!!

The views from the top of mountain Rigi is breath taking. Truly feel on 'in top of the mountain looking down on creation'. The air fresh and crisp. The boat ride to Lucerne knotted through the most beautiful sceneries. Kudos very well spent for this excursion.

Amazing!

Tour lovely guide: Christina. We had fantastic tour and a speechless view from the mountain and we took a lot of photos. Everything was just right. The organization was great, Christina our guide gave us the right instructions about the tour plan and a lot of information about the visited cities, She speaks many languages and clear English, Everything was on time. I highly recommend it.

Mt Rigi Rides

Riding up partially in the sardine pack cable car was an experience and halfway along the trip change to the cog wheel train for the up mountain trip to Mt Rigi- the queen of mountain with beautiful scenery and we could see the changes in season from the leaves turning into yellow.

Great day on Rigi

This tour is great for independent travelers. Transportation is provided to the cable car with very clear instructions and tickets to get up Rigi via cable car and train. Different return times are provided to allow you more or less time on Rigi or in Lucerne. Cruise tickets are provided and free time in Lucerne with clear pick up instructions. We loved being able to customize it and travel independently. The views up the cable car and train were gorgeous. The cruise was also beautiful. We loved Lucerne. had a great day. Note. This bus leaves with several different tours on it. We got dropped first at Rigi but others stayed on to Lucerne and to the other mountain. It appears that they pick up more people when they drop day trippers to Lucerne and then move onwards to the other mountain. But with the Rigi tour they all get off in Lucerne when we got back on the bus. So imo Rigi was the best choice to avoid that all. Plus I can't imagine better views!

Wonderful Day Trip from Zurich!

This was an excellent tour! Our guide was very engaging and informative during the bus trip. I chose the self guided option after that. The gondola ride was breathtaking and Mount Rigi was amazing although we did have some low clouds. I had a very filling lunch at the cafe. The boat ride on Lake Lucerne was very relaxing. Lucerne was a wonderful city to explore and I saw many of the most famous sites. A wonderful day trip from Zurich!

Perfect Day Trip from Zurich

My friends and I had the most wonderful time on this trip. Our guide was incredibly kind, passionate, and knowledgeable. She narrated our trip to Weggis and from there we were on our own for the remainder of the day. We were provided booklets perfectly outlining the day and transportation. Overall, the trip was well-organized and so much fun.

Best day trip for a beginner

This was a great trip taking in views of the mountains from a cable car, cogwheel train, walking and boat. And spending 2 hours exploring Lucerne. The weather was nice so the temperature in September was warm and only needed a jacket at the top of Rigi where it was a bit windy. The views down fabulous especially as the sunlight hit the mountains in the afternoon and looking down on the lake and countryside. Most of it was self-guided at your own pace with a time to be at each pick-up point. And the distance was not too far so we’ll worth it for a day out to do so much! The Tour guide was also very informative while travelling to and from Zurich.

great views - if weather is cooperative

We had a self guided option. We had Robert as our guide at Mount Rigi. Robert was knowledgeable about the area and gave us recommendations with our given conditions. The weather was our biggest adversary with the foggy day obscuring many of the views of the alps that we hoped to get a glimpse of. We wanted to stop by the nearby cheese factory in mount Rigi but many of the usual accommodations (mount Rigi hotel and cheese factory) were closed or gated off. Thankfully, the bistro was open to grab a quick bite. No comments on the boat tour. There is no narration so just take your camera for a few views and you can also a few alacarte items. We had roughly two hours to explore Lucerne. I’d stress that that amount of time is just enough to walk one round of the ‘recommended’ landmarks the tour pamphlet provides. We were told by the operator to be on time for the pickups to not miss our bus. I’d recommend arriving 5-10 min before the written departure time. The bus will leave punctually - definitely felt like a few groups got left behind.

Mount Rigi & lake Lucerne well worth visiting

Very interesting trip which we really enjoyed but 90% of the trip we did on our own. So trip up the mountain, down again & boat trip we navigated ourselves. We rejoined the bus in Lucerne - directions could have been clearer where to pick up the bus.

Great excursion

They had this excursion well planed out and timed. We had a great experience. Sadly, it was a little too foggy for us to see much on top of Mt. Rigi.

Great day trip from Zurich

Amazing day trip to Rigi and Lake Lucerne. We all had a great trip and bus ride. Amazing views from the top and all the way up the mountain

Not a match for us

This trip was not for us. Intense drive on the coach bus in rainy conditions. Ended up leaving a portion of the way in and taking the train back to Zürich.

Go on the trip and enjoy even if you may not get the view at the top of Mount Rigi, you’ll most likely hear the cowbells

I’d give it 5 stars but 2 things, fog rolled in which was unavoidable as it’s common so we didn’t really have a view. The other thing is we were really sure what to do when we were dropped off in Lucerne as that was self-guided. We should have done some homework on Last Verne before going on this trip. That being said even though we didn’t have the view when we got to the top of Mount Rigi we heard the cowbells in the mist and saw 2 lamas come out of the mist. That was neat. Also in Lucerne the city was beautiful as we walked down some of the streets and by the water and we got to enjoy delicious ice cream. I still recommend the trip because all the transportation and views were wonderful and our tour guide was so nice and knowledgeable.

Love it!

This tour was excellent! We loved every step of the way and the instructions given weee very clear. There was enough time allowed at each location, and the tour guide did a good job of informing us of the landmarks on the way. Definitely recommend!!

Wonderful experience on Rigi

Pick up and drop off was smooth, and the driver was wonderful. The whole crew was in high spirits the entire time. The tour IS only partially guided but it’s much better that way. Once you get to your final destination on rigi do NOT be afraid to explore- you have so much time. The views were incredible. The water ride was fun and smooth. Make sure you are prompt for the boat ride, they board incredibly fast! I would definitely do this again.

Not sure if I’d recommend

This was not a tour but more like a transportation to Mt Rigi and Lucerne. They just give you the tickets and instructions then you’re on your own.

Breathtaking view of Mount Rigi

The trip should start early not 9:30. The stores in Lucerne were closed around 5 pm. If the tours started around 8 am, we would have time to enjoy it. In general, Mount Rigi was breathtaking.

Jorge was an excellent tour guide!! Highly recommend him and this tour!! The scenery from Mt. Rigi was spectacular!! Lucerne old t own is very charming!!

A less than half guided tour

As solo traveler, personally I’m not a fan of tours but wanted to get out and see more of the city center area. It was told to us that it was a semi guided tour. The only portion of the tour that was guided was the ride to and from. Everything else was at your own pace. The ride to mt rigi was great but cramped as everyone loads in. Not great for anyone who is claustrophobic. We had a lot of fog the day i was there which blocked the most of the view but otherwise, mt. rigi was gorgeous. The boat ride to lurcerne was nice. The ticket given to you is a voucher , not a ticket so you have to check and. By the time you’ve checked in for the 2nd class seat. Every decent seat is taken, which is unfortunate. I modified my itinerary to spend more time in Lucerne as the trip only really allowed for an hour which I didn’t think was much time at all, and I’m glad. I did not think the return coordinates were easy understand. Even being there early, i would have missed the bus had I not watched someone else walk to another spot. We actually did leave others. It was a great trip though and if i wanted to do it again that way i would, sure. But for the price I’d say it was a little steep for something probably could have put together myself.

Great trip. Spectacular beauty. Easy way to see the Alps as you go to the peak of Rigi down to Lake Lucerne. Amazing!

Beautiful sites to visit without hassle

It is a self guided tour. The buses will pick you up from Zurich and leave you at the bottom of Mount Rigi. You are given tickets for the tram and the train which takes you up to mount Rigi. You are free to explore the breathtaking views and enjoy the lunch with plenty of time to explore the mountain.You really do not need a tour guide for this tour. You then return via train to the bottom of mountain where you take a ferry to Lake Lucern. Again, you have plenty of time to explore Lucern where you are picked up at a designated spot. It would have been nicer to have a guided tour of Lucern but the map provided by the company was more than adequate for that purpose.Overall, I would recommend this tour as it provides a seamless experience without the hassles of traveling to and from the Rigi mountain and takes care of tickets for all the necessary rides. You are mostly free to enjoy the beauty of Switzerland.

I love to come again

I love the view from mount Rigi very much. And i really enjoy the experience in the cable car, train and ship. The arrangement of time also very good that i can have enough time to enjoy everything.

Mountain views were spectacular

Enjoyed the day, the cable car ride and cog wheel train ride were excellent. Views on the mountain were amazing. Ferry ride to Lucerne was relaxing.

Great Tour!!

This is the perfect tour . You meet the bus in Zurich, the instructions on when and where to meet were easy to understand. The bus takes you to Weggis and there you are dropped off and given tickets for the cable car, train and a voucher for the boat to Lucerne. You are also given a book with a rough outline to follow for the day. You then have the whole day to go about seeing things on your own and your own timeline. You then meet the bus back at the meetup spot as directed and drive back to Zurich. Mt Rigi was amazing and we all highly enjoyed this trip. Would recommend to anyone going to Switzerland.

Mt. Rigi/Lucerne

This tour is basically just transportation to Mt. Rigi and vouchers to get to where you are going. Everything else is on your own. Our tour guide talked a little about sights we passed, but the intercom system wasn't good and we couldn't hear most of it. He was a bit dry in what he was telling us. But, if you're looking for a day on your own with transportation covered, this is what you get from this tour.

Fun videos sit if just for the pictures!

We visited as Part of an almost private tour by Viking as too few people booked so we had what turned out to be a private guide. The mountain and cruise to get there were a lot of fun. The restaurant at the top serves incredibly hardy meals that were quite good. It’s a great place to visit if f only for the photos!

Confusing at the top of Mt Rigi and poor directions to find the bus in Lucerne.

I booked this trip so we could see the Swiss Alps. I didn't read the description well enough, because I thought we would be in the Swiss Alps, but instead we were at a lower mountain range. There was fog, so we didn't get to see anything. We enjoyed the cogwheel train, but since it was fogged in at the top, and early (mid April) in the season, there was nothing to do or see at the top of Mt Rigi. The boat ride on Lake Lucerne and the town of Lucerne were very nice! Unfortunately the map to meet the bus gives poor instructions and we were unable to find the bus. I appreciate the tour company calling us to help us find the bus, but it was a bit stressful thinking we would miss the bus back to Zurich.

Wonderful tour!

This was the best tour we've taken in 15 years of travel. Most of it is self guided, but the instructions are very clear and the tickets are all included. The sights were beautiful and it was a great value. I would very strongly recommend.

A tour that wasn’t a tour…

We paid more the 450euros for a bus ride from Zurich to Visnou and that was all the tour we had (some information about Switzerland)The tour leader left us at a shop with tickets for train ride and left… we went up the mountain came down and caught a boat to Lucerne …we’re we had to wait for the bus to take us back to Zurich…on the way to Zurich we just listed to the tour leader( if you can all her that ) talking about her life to the bus driver. We could have got a bus ourselves and did the rest by ourselves…we thought we paid for a tour . By the way we were 2 adults and 2 children and at the train shop they told us kids don’t pay for train ride but I bet we paid for it.

Less than expected

The summit of Mt Rigi was a big disappointment, no view due to weather but also nothing open there. The ride up was scenic but the train was not what was expected. I believe the experience was underwhelming because of the time of year but we had no knowledge of that and they did NOT inform us.

Easy trip with plenty to do

Wonderful and plenty of activities to do! The tour guide was informative on the drive over and back. I would just add that you can leave Mt. Rigi at 1pm as well to make the 1349 boat to luzern.

Mt Rigi Self Guided, not a guided tour

This trip is self guided, the only thing the tour operator provides is a bus ride to and from. There are other tours on the bus. You get a pamphlet (with time tables for transportation) at checkin, given a bus ride and dropped off at the Mt Rigi cable car station. At that point the ‘guide’ gives you tickets for the cable car and the boat to Lucerne and tells you where and when to meet in Lucerne for the bus back. The “guided” part of this is the talk given while on the bus to and from the destination which was not very good. This wasn’t my expectation and it would have been less expensive to plan the travel from Zurich on my own. The description on the Viator site doesn’t explicitly state it is a self guided tour.

Mt Rigi, self guided tour

This was not as expected, having had positive experience with Viator previously. This tour was primarily transportation to Mt Rigi ending in Lucerne. We were transported to the cable car station, dumped off and handed tickets for the cable car and boat to Lucerne. The only “guided portion” was a short narrative on the bus which was poor at best. The tour guide abruptly dumped us at the first stop and traveled on with the other 2 tour groups on our bus. We, my husband and another couple could have planned this on our own at a much less cost, roughly half the cost. It was not worth was was charged. I tried to email customer service to ask for a refund but my email was sent back and not able to be delivered. This was an expensive self guided tour.

The guide team led by Francesca and Conrad was funny, informative and professional. It was a full day that we really enjoyed.

False advertising

This was a self guided tour that I was unaware of. It didn’t state anywhere it was self guided and a bit stressful as I had to figure out everything on my own. The driver was the best part of the tour he was pleasant and vey helpful.
