Batik Master Class with Full Process

No experience needed to have a great time!

My class was a great experience of learning how to make a Batik painting. The tour offered to pick me up from the train station or bus terminal to save me time to get there. There was then a good explanation on how the process worked and I was given a chance to test my skills before doing my actual painting. There were multiple designs they offered me but if you are more creative you can do your own. I kept getting assistance to make sure my painting was ready to colour. There are a few colours you can use but you can make them lighter by adding water. Once everything was done, I went to a small temple across the road to look around at whilst my painting was drying. My guide also was great in taking photos and videos of me during different stages of the process. I felt that this was an amazing cultural experience and it is better to go to Prambanan for this class, not the temples. Terima kasih banyak!

Highly recommend if you like art and painting

It was very nice, teacher explained everything patiently and helped me correct mistakes. There's a big choice of patterns and there is also a possibility of drawing your own pattern. Also, tea was delicious and in meantime while you wait for your work to dry out, the teacher showes you a nearby temple.

Great excursion and a pleasant way to meet wonderfull Indonesian people!

We had a wonderful time here learning about the way how Batik is created and where all the paterns and colours come from. Best part was actually making our own Batik! Our interesting host was very warm and friendly and the whole experience was made complete by a very nice teacher who helped us feel special being there.

Batik class with Citra

Batik Painting near Prambahan

Wonderful afternoon learning the art of batik in a beautiful space with a knowledgeable guide who documents your whole process. The tour also includes a visit to a nearby temple and snacks. This business supports the local woman by displaying their batik in its gallery. This was such a lovely experience, I highly recommend after your visit to Prambahan as it is 2 mins away!

Amazing

The experience of making our own batik was amazing but also difficult. They show you how to make the handmade batik from start to finnish. Starting from the print and waxing to the colouring and cooking of the fabrick. We are giving 5 stars, because they also help the People in poverty around them, by giving lessons in making batik to sell.

Relaxing, fun and interesting

It was a lovely experience. We enjoyed ourselves drawing out our pictures and then waxing before colouring. The teacher was so helpful and pleasant. While our batiks were drying we saw the nearby Buddhist temple with our English speaking guide. Thoroughly recommend this.

Very authentic and creative way to learn Batik making in a very traditional way.

It's about 35 minutes from Malioboro, Yokyakarta, close to the Prambanan Temple. I rented a car with my dad to go there and spent around 3 - 4 hours drawing and waxing and painting. It's beautiful experience, especially the lady teacher was so knowledgable and showed me so many of her own professional designs, traditional and modern. She doesn't only teach but also produce and have program for the village ladies who want to learn and eventually sell their creation. I was always acompanied by her team from start to finish. I already prepared what I wanted to draw (turtle), and you can easily combine this program with visiting the Prambanan and other close by temple. Even they have the cycling in the rice fields near by. Thank you for being such a accommodating hosts, I truely enjoy the experience.

Really great

This experience was amazing; I feel like I really learned the history and importance of batik, as well as how skillful it is! The guide was lovely and the walk to the temple while the batik was drying was a great addition.

This was such a cool experience. If you love doing art this is for you! The guide helps you through the process and gives great background information. You can tell they are passionate about keeping Indonesian tradition alive. Would definitely recommend

Great Batik Master Class

We had a great Batik Master Class! A relaxing and comfortable atmosphere, a place to forget about everything and just get lost in art, a wonderful and very skilled indonesian teacher and a great english translator. Learned a lot about Batik art!

Great experience

The experience was great and Ms Titik is very friendly and knowledgeable with her work and shows in her passion for Batik making. It was eye opening to learn the traditional methods to making Batik. It was also great to see the Sojiwan Trmple and eat some local food as part of the experience! Well worth the visit

Perfect batik course

Really fun en well arranged course. Perfect to combine with visiting the prambanan, they were kind to bring us there afterwards. We got a nice view in how difficult it is to make beautiful batik art and our attempt wasn't too bad! Would recommend to everyone visiting Yogya!

A thoroughly enjoyable experience!

This activity was the highlight of my trip. I did it before heading to the airport and am truly glad I was able to squeeze in time for it before flying home. I had the privilege of having a private session with Alga and his Bude (Bu Titik) as there were no other bookings during the timeslot. Truly loved my time there making my own tote bag, starting with tracing of the design (you can draw your own if you want as well), drawing it out with wax using the 'canting' and painting it. Bude helped with the rest of the process in protecting the colour, placing the fabric in boiling water and then rinsing it. I got to bring home the final product with me. For me, one who is not artistically inclined, it was not about the final product. It was more about enjoying the experience, which I thoroughly did. From the moment I arrived till I left, Alga and Bude were the most gracious hosts and nothing short of warm and welcoming. Throughout the activity, they explained the process and provided advice and assistance. I also really enjoyed my conversations with Alga and Bude, listening to their stories and experiences. Fantastic batik experience

The class was very well explained and fun, taking us through the whole process of making batik. The instructors were absolutely lovely and patient, helping us throughout the experience. (The traditional snacks were also excellent! 😊). We would definitely recommend this workshop, and would be keen to give batik another go in the future!

A lovely creative saturday, far away from the hectic city life

I had a wonderful saturday morning/afternoon with this Batik workshop. Mas Alfa, Mas Bagus and IbuTitip did everything they could to receive me with open arms. Alfa picked me up from the trainstation and Bagus and Titip guided me (with delicious snacks and cold drinks) through the creative process. Since I was the only one, I could take all the time I wanted for my creation, I loved it so much! In the drying break they borrowed me a bike, so I could bike to the nearby Temple, which was a beautiful add on. After finishing my batik piece, Bagus even brought me to an event close to the Prambanan, so I could see some traditional dancing. All in all, I had a lovely creative day, and would recommend this workshop to everyone!

Great fun doing something quintessentially Indonesian!

Great fun! Neither of us had ever done batik before, and they gave us detailed guidance. Very relaxing activity. Friendly helpful team. The location (in the middle of a residential neighborhood) is something of a surprise - I was convinced we were lost until we arrived. One suggestion is to come with an idea of what batik you want - I hadn't thought about it, so I used one of their existing designs, but wish I had prepared myself.

I had the most amazing time! It was wonderfully organised by Alga and the class was run by Butiki and Icha. They welcomed me into their home and taught me about their beautiful craft. I will remember this forever. It was so much fun - would highly recommend! Matur nuwun :).

Fun activity to cap off Prambanan

This was the perfect activity after Prambanan as it is barely 10 minutes from there ! We were two couples and my friend really wanted to experience the whole batik making process as she’s abit of an artist herself . Upon arrival we were greeted with food and drinks . I had mentioned our company were vegetarian and had some food allergy and they accommodated that very well . We were then asked to select the design . Optionally we could do our own which my husband chose to do. You also had the choice to upgrade to designing a tote bag for a minimal charge . The whole process took less than 3 hours. Others in the class chose to walk around the area while waiting for their batik to dry as there is a nearby temple within walking distance. All in all it was a wonderful experience . The company was very professional and we gained a new found respect and appreciation for batik. Highly recommend will likely bring my adult kids next time!

Batik Master Class

It was an eye-opening experience learning about the different types of batik prints and the process of batik making. Painting my own batik piece from scratch was surprisingly challenging yet incredibly therapeutic. I've truly developed a newfound respect for batik professionals and their dedication to the craft!

Great experience for an afternoon

We did a session with three families and had a great time. Our Grab driver had a hard time finding the place so they picked us up at a more convenient location. At the place we were welcomed with drinks and snacks before we started the class. The staff were helpful friendly and very relaxed. The kids loved it, we loved it and so did granddad and grandma.

Fun way to experience batik making

This is such a great experience!! My friend and I learned the whole process of making batik and how to use the wax and paint. We were very pleased with the end result :) Such warmth and hospitality from everyone! Highly recommend!

We had a great time!

It was a great experience, once we reach there we were greated with snacks and drink. Explaination on the batik process in english. There's no right on wrong in the batik making process. I took the option to make a tote bag, just note that there is an extra charge and you need abit more time for the batik to try. They also took us to the sojiwan temple nearby (less than5mins away). You can also request for them to book you tickets to the temples

Making Masterpieces 🖌️👩‍🎨🎨

Making Batik was so much fun!! I got an opportunity to design my own piece which represents by trip to Indonesia. I marked it out with wax, choose the colours and filled it in. I love it!!! Citra and Mrs. Titik gave great guidance and were really helpful. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed.

We really liked the workshop! It is fun to learn the batik proces and the teachers are very helpfull. It is in a Nice quite part of the city. I would definitely recommend the workshop !!

Great little creative activity for your holiday.

Absolutely amazing experience. Our guide for the batik process was patient and kind, and everyone was very welcoming. Overall just a great cultural and creative activity to do in Yogyakarta; we also went to a nearby temple while waiting for the batik paint to dry, so no time was ‘wasted’ at all. The batik guides also gave us great tips for what we should do in the city, and gave us a great mini history lesson. Thanks for the hospitality!! Also it’s just a great price deal too.

Interesting batik process

Interesting experience about the batik process. We enjoyed the fun time including full batik process, snack , Mr Alga speak good English. The auntie who teach us batik process very nice and allow kids take a look at house surrounding . Highly recommended!! We created a beautiful personal bag.

An excellent Batik and temple experience

Alga and his aunt were welcoming and friendly guides who made the Batik experience relaxing, interesting and fun! It’s far more difficult than it looks, but they coach you gently through the process while fuelling you with delicious local treats and tea. We went to Sojiwan Temple with Alga while our Batiks dried and he was very knowledgeable about the history of it and also shared some stories of the fables that decorate it. We are keen to try more tours with him.

Super fun and super hard

It was so so so hard (and humbling, you gain a lot of respect for batik as an art form) but a ton of fun. Me and my friend loved it and both titik and Bagus are super welcoming and friendly. Communication and flexibility was also good. Thank you for a great workshop!

For art lovers everywhere

This is a must do in Yogya and is something that is more off the beaten path. If you don’t know what Batik is, it’s an Indonesian textile art that is incredibly intricate. I’ve wanted to try it since seeing my auntie wear a batik dress. Titik and Bagus were my guides during the process and were super supportive and sagacious. They helped me with the techniques and taught me more about the history of batik. We did all of this at Titik’s house. Also it was an honor as Titik has won many awards in Indonesia for her batik. Overall it takes about 3-4hrs and every single moment is worth it.

Wondering experience learning about batik

We shared a wonderful few hours with Bu Titi learning how to make batik. There were many designs to choose from, or you could create your own. We each decided to use a design and got to work applying the wax. Once the wax was dry, we selected our colours and applied. After this dried, a fixing process was completed and then the wax was removed. While waiting for our work to dry, we took a short walk down to Candi Sojiwan which was a bonus for the day! We had the best time with Bu Titi who gave us excellent support. She is a generous and kind teacher. Thank you to Bagus for your expert translation skills. We had the best day!

Wonderful experience off the beaten track

Don’t doubt, go! Titik, Alva and Bagus were so welcoming and patient and explained everything very well. Combined with a temple visit it was a great experience.

I had a wonderful time with Bagus and Titik. They explained the entire process with so much patience. It was a lot of fun doing the batik making! I was travelling solo and they made me feel so comfortable, so much at home.. simply loved the whole experience!!

Wonderful Batik class

What better way to learn about batik than making some yourself! Wonderful class, excellent friendly teachers, peaceful and relaxing environment. We loved every minute and will treasure our batiks forever. Thank you Bagus and Titik.

The gallery’s beautiful and Didi and zuidoosten are very nice and friendly. You can make your own design or pick one of theirs.

Highly recommended when you're in Jogja! You will learn a lot about the process and go home with your own unique, handmade souvenir. People are super friendly and they also serve snacks. It is a 30 minute drive from the city and close to the Prambanan, so convenient to combine with a visit to the temple.

Fun and educational batik making activity in Yogyakarta

I recently took a batik making activity in Yogyakarta, Indonesia with my family and we had a fantastic time! The activity was hosted in the home of a professional batik maker, and she was an excellent guide. We each chose a fabric square with a draft outline of the pattern already drawn in pencil, and then used a canting tool to paint wax onto the edges of the outline. The final step was to paint different color dyes onto the segments of the pattern and melt the wax away. The entire process was very relaxing and enjoyable, and our hosts were wonderful. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting Yogyakarta. It was a great way to spend an afternoon with my family learning this ancient craft and create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of art.

What it's special about this class is that you learn every step of the batik making process in great detail; both Alga and the owners are very knowledgeable and passionate about the art of Batik and you can feel it throughout this experience. Titik it's such a positive energy pill! Haha her friendliness, patience and continuous  encouragement radiate and boost everyone's motivation and focus. Javanese art

It is a great experience! You can feel like Picasso and learn a lot about javanese art! People are very nice and hospitable. It is located in a nice and calm neighborhood. During your experience you have time for a chat with local people, coffee and visit a temple nearby ☺️
