Glacier/Volcano Baths

Anna is amazing!! She was our guide for the baths and elevated an already amazing experience. Walking down into the canyon is stunning. Then once in the pools it’s just a different experience. Anna explained that the sulfur (egg smell) was not present as these baths are glacier water that has been heated by the nearby volcano. How cool to be soaking in volcano heated glacier water.

Hidden Gem

Exceptional experience in every way. The timing was precise (no waiting around), Olgeir the guide was helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable, and the canyon baths were a once in a lifetime experience that was quintessentially Icelandic in every way. We went in the winter which had to be the absolute best time to go. Soaking in the warmth of the thermal bath surrounded by snow covered cliffs on every side is the stuff of Christmas movies, but I cannot imagine there is a bad time of year to go. Some reviewers complained about the price and the restrictions (you can’t just go to the baths on your own - you must purchase the tour) - but for newcomers with limited time and no local expertise the cost was well worth the convenience of being “guided” to and from the canyon. Absolute don’t miss. A hidden gem.

Spectacular experience

Cannot even describe how truly extraordinary this experience rates. The guide is friendly and knowledgeable and the setting is unbelievable even in 20 degree temps. There was one other couple and us so it was like our own private hidden hot spring/bath. If you are looking for luxury go to the other baths but if you are looking for an experience with nature this is the place to be . Would do it again in a heartbeat!

Would definitely recommend

One of the highlights of my trip. Had the canyon baths all to myself. The place is serene and quiet. My guide was Olgeir Helgi Ragnarsson; he was very kind and accommodating. He took a pictures of me, and provided towels. I enjoyed the privacy and the views. Will definitely do this again if ever I go back to Iceland.

Best tour!

Amazing tour! Olgeir Ragnarsson was so knowledgeable about the area and as a local, had so many stories to tell about the area and what growing up there was like. The baths were incredible- serene and quiet and private. Definitely a must.

Husafell Canyon Bath! Magic!

It was a beautiful experience soaking in such a volcanic canyon. Olger, our guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. He took photos for our family as well. Definitely recommend!

Ask for Olgeir!

This tour was so special-our family of 4 will have memories that last a lifetime! Olgeir gives you freedom to choose how you divide your time during the 2-hr window. His knowledge of the area, as a local whose family traces back 30 generations, was worth 3 times the price of admission! The adults loved sipping cold IPAs in the hot pool and our teenage boys loved going back and forth to the river for cold plunges. We hope to be fortunate enough to return someday! So grateful that the Husafell family shares this unforgettable treasure.

Loved the guide and the place

Loved the bath and the tourist guy. It’s a unique experience and you learn about the history of this place. Totally worth a visit.

Phenomenal

Absolutely MOST magical experience on our honeymoon thus far. We enjoyed this far more than the Blue Lagoon. Far less crowded, beautiful scenery, great host. Such an authentic experience. The price for this where we’re from would be double. We were just blown away!

Hidden gem in Husafell area

A lovely place which includes a guided tour in Husafell area. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. Canyon baths is a real hidden gem. A small group which perfectly fits for the size of the pools. We loved it! If only we could stay a bit longer to enjoy it!

Get ready to enjoy yourself in a hurry!

Unique experience, but way to rushed, we did not get enough time in the pool. The leave from the parking lot a the hotel every 2 hours so you will have to be back with the driver for the next departure in time, we did not get enough time to enjoy this beautiful place.

This is such an amazing hidden gem in Iceland. Our guide Olgeir was great! He was very passionate and informative about the land and geography around us - it was super interesting. The baths are relaxing and warm with beautiful views. I wish we could’ve stayed longer! Highly recommend!

Highlight of our trip

Soaking in the warm pool in the snowy canyon was a truly incredible experience and one I won’t forget! A highlight of our trip. Our guide Olgeir was brilliant - very friendly, kind and helpful, offering me an arm to help me down the icy path to get to the baths. He shared lots of interesting info about the canyon, the baths and the hotel, and then left us some time to relax. Towels & crampons were provided and we were able to purchase a glass of wine to enjoy in the baths too! Would highly recommend, a magical experience and so peaceful.

What a Great Experience!

Since the Blue Lagoon was closed, we were steered to the Canyon Baths by the Tourist Bureau - and it was a superb experience! Very private, very scenic and wonderfully relaxing. There won't be busloads of people here - I believe the maximum is 15 at once - so book this nearly private tour and enjoy! We would definitely recommend this to anyone headed to Iceland!

A great winter stop

We visited the canyon on 6 December. The three of us were the only visitors. Anna was a great guide walking us to the falls and then to the canyon and bath pools. She was super friendly and told us all about the history of the area. We soaked, sans clothes, had a glass of wine, and, unfortunately, headed back to Rekyjavik. A great visit. We cannot recommend it enough!

Amazing

This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Iceland. It's very off-the-beaten-path, and felt much more intimate and relaxing than Blue Lagoon. Would highly recommend.

Unique Iceland Experience

The Husafell Canyon Bath tour was such a cool and definitely one of the more unique experiences from our Iceland trip - the walk from the van to the canyon baths was a bit treacherous from the ice and snow but our guide was very focused on ensuring everyone’s safety, and offered help to anyone who needed it especially as we descended into the canyon. The water was very chilly but it was a lot of fun to learn about the area from inside the canyon baths!

Fortunately we were the only ones on the tour, so we had a private tour to the clearest pools out of the 7 we went too

Stunning Natural Setting

I was worried that this tour would be not worth the money. I was completely wrong! The walk down to the baths was very enjoyable. The baths are absolutely beautiful and we did the 5pm tour and the water was perfectly warm! The dressing rooms are heated so it was very comfortable.

Hidden Gem in Iceland

What a fun and unique experience. You can only visit the husafell baths with a tour guide - which I was first really skeptical about - but by the end I really appreciated it! Our guide gave us great information and due to the tour restrictions, the number of people in the baths were limited - giving us the ultimate privacy. This is a hidden gem in Iceland!

Fun, relaxing, bond-with-nature tour!

We had a private tour led by Andre. It was so interesting and very calming and relaxing. Andre shared lots of history and interesting geology facts. Changing rooms and showers are quaint and comfortable. Very true to nature. Would have given 5 stars if the baths were a bit warmer. They don’t heat the water - it is piped in from a geothermal well, so not sure they can control this, but hotter would have been better. Would give 4.5 if possible!

Hurrah for Húsafell

It was a blustery, rainy evening but that didn’t dampen our enthusiasm for Húsafell Baths, nor the joviality of our guide; the proprietor. After a short drive from the hotel meeting point to the top of a canyon ridge we then made a short hike into the bath area below. The setting is remarkably beautiful and the baths truly lovely. (There are also perfectly adequate changing facilities. ) We then began our delicious soak surrounded by nothing but Icelandic beauty. We were loath to do the Blue Lagoon and anyone looking for a more organic alternative would be hard pressed to find anything better than Húsafell Canyon Baths.

Worth the time and effort!

The guide was able to give us a great summary of the rich history of the area, including the geology of the area surrounding the baths. It was a wonderful and very private (only 2 other couples on our tour) experience, with plenty of time to just relax in the baths!

Unique geothermal bath tour

Guide was a lifelong local and gave tons of interesting information about the area while being very entertaining and personable. Baths are an easy walk from the bus and beautiful. Facilities are modern and clean and the complimentary beer or wine was a special touch. Highly recommend.

A little Husafell Magic

Truly a Hidden Gem!

We LOVED our experience with Húsafell Canyon Baths. We were there in early December and booked the 5pm tour. We ended up being the only couple on the tour and in the Baths! Our tour guide was outstanding. He shared details about the geography of the canyon and the history of the area. The Baths are very romantic at night! On our way out we saw a moon rainbow! The only thing that could have made our experience there better would have been to see the Northern Lights, but we were so blessed to see them at Hotel Husafell later in the evening!

Winter Day at Canyon Baths

This was the most perfect tour and the most beautiful day. Our tour guide was informative and told us amazing stories of Husafell. We walked a short distance from the car to the Canyon Baths and the place was a hidden gem - the scenery was spectacular and the baths were rustic and beautiful to bathe in. Our guide kept us entertained with drinks and allowed for some quite time to just soak and be at one with nature. A day that I will never forget - possibly my most favourite place in Iceland. Thank you.

Amazing and relaxing experience!

The guide was very friendly. We took a short ride, where we stopped to see a waterfall and then walked to the canyon baths tucked inside a private canyon. There were two baths - one warm and one hot. We stayed in the hot one, which was really nice. Great experience and would definitely recommend! The guide mentioned that you can book private tours at 7 and 9.

Great tour and guide

After arriving at Husafell, tired from an overnight flight, the tour was a great activity. The ride was short, the guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the baths were warm and beautiful. Great setting and great experience.

BEST EXPERIENCE IN ICELAND

The Canyon Bath was amazing, the history, the tour guide, the driver, the place we need the chance the clothes... everything was amazing, we had an amazing time!

Olgeir was the best guide!

Booked a sunset tour at 5:30, and got lucky with a small group. Our tour guide, Olgeir Helgi was awesome, he told us the history of the canyon baths and how they were created. The local community and recommendations for the local area , super knowledgeable! He is born and raised in Husafell, so he has got all of the secrets! They give you a clean towel so you just need a bag with your bathing suit. I recommend wearing your suit before so you get more hot tub time. We got about 20-30 minutes in the baths, clean changing rooms and bathroom. They offer beer and wine for the baths, so remember to bring your wallet, they have a card reader so you can use your cc!

Amazing experience

Natural hot springs in lava rocks. Incredible setting! Great experience. Nice changing rooms that are heated and clean. Clean toilet area and warm showers before entering the hot tubs. A must do during your visit to Iceland!! The hike was very easy. Basically they drive you almost to the entrance. Super easy walk to the location.

Beautiful! Don't miss it!

Our visit to the Canyon Bath was fantastic! My husband and I were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour. We booked a 10 am reservation which is typically less busy according to our guide. It was a very short walk to the stairs that bring you down to the baths. Our guide was great too.

unique experience

We were really amused with everything the guide Olgeir told us, and we are so happy that you have this magical place and you let everyone enjoy it. Please let Olgeir know that he is awesome and has very good energy! He makes us want to come back to Husafell so we will be back in the future!!

Worth the Time, Money, EVERYTHING

Our tour was fantastic. Our guide Olkay (sorry I don't know how to spell it) was so fun and friendly. We learned a lot about the area and geology! The baths and accommodations were clean and welcoming. The water was relaxing and the tour was just the right amount of time.

AMAZING, MUST DO EXPERIENCE

What an incredible excursion this was! Between the history/geology lesson from our knowledgeable, local tour guide, the private views of waterfalls and old glaciers, bathing in between two ancient canyons.. We knew we wanted to do this while we were in Iceland but we didn't realize this would be one of the highlights of our whole trip. Absolutely incredible, once in a lifetime experience.

Possibly the best hot bath you will experience

This is quite simply everything you want a hot bath in Iceland to be. Amongst nature, warm water, friendly and informative guide, great views. Pick up from outside the Husafell general store, a short 10 minute drive; if offered, see the waterfalls nearby at the baths drop off. Towels provided, so you just need your costume; drinks available to buy at the baths. Total time is around 1 3/4 hours, from pick up to drop off. A very relaxing trip

Hidden gem in Husafell

My friend and I booked the guided tour and it was a wonderful way to learn about the history of the Husafell area, the geology of the canyon, and the how the baths themselves were developed. Olgeir was a charming tour guide who has lived in Husafell his whole life, so knows it well. Worth the trip from Reykjavik - Highly recommended!

Authentic local guide, who new a lot about the canyon and its surroundings, nice walk and relaxing bath in two amazing hot tubs - we had a great afternoon and highly recommend this activity!

A hidden gem in the Icelandic countryside.

The Husafell Canyon Baths are must see for anyone visiting the area. Not only are the baths wonderful to relax in and enjoy, the history of the area and how the baths came into existence, makes the excursion a wonderful highlight to your vacation. Our guide was so knowledgeable and provided us with the history of the area and of Iceland itself. This was my second visit to the baths and I would go again!

The all experience was amazing. Great guidance, nice view and the thermal bath was wonderful. We couldn’t have ask for more!

Amazing Experience

We booked the Husafell Canyon Baths Tour and it was awesome. We went on a rainy day, but that does not matter - it was still beautiful. Easy pick up at the Husafell Hotel - we were a small group of only 8 in totally (my family of 4 plus 4 more). Our tour guide Olgar was wonderful: he was very knowledgeable and helpful. He answered all my kids questions and he even sang me happy birthday in Icelandic. Unfortunately the wind was very strong, so we did not get to do the hike to the waterfall, but the we loved the Canyon Baths. Also this way we had more time to enjoy them. My kids were brave enough to dip into the ice cold stream, but we enjoyed the two different baths. They provide towels, which is super helpful and the changing rooms are clean and heated. We highly recommend this tour!

Amazing (thanks Olgar!)

This was amazing. The baths themselves are beautiful and carved into the canyon floor. The canyon itself is incredibly interesting geologically and we enjoyed hearing about it while we soaked in the hot water. What really made it amazing was the guide. Olgar was funny and witty and told great stories. When he found out it was my wife's birthday he loudly sang her the Icelandic Happy Birthday song. (Olgar can sing!) So great. You won't be sorry--- this one is special.

Highlight of our Honeymoon!

We got crazy lucky and ended up with an empty group tour, no one else had booked for the same time. We got to hike up to a gorgeous waterfall and then back down into the canyon to see the amazing baths. Our tour guide was incredibly nice and told us all about the history and geography of the land and then gave us some relaxation time to ourselves in the secluded baths. My husband even jumped in the freezing river afterwards and said it was an experience like hes never had before.

Wonderful and Relaxing!

This was the most wonderful, relaxing adventure! Can’t recommend enough. Olgeir shared so much history of the area, the Husafell family and the geology of the area…before, during and after the delightful thermal baths. A must do!

Unique & new experience, beautiful scenery

Neat experience. The "hike" is not really anything - you're just going down the stairs, it literally takes 5 minutes. The shuttle was a bit of a cluster - supposedly the groups are limited to a certain # of people (maybe 15?), but we had more than that on board, and were crammed into the vehicle. We had to stop to pick up more towels. What felt like a big crowd of people in the shuttle turned out to be not too bad once we got to the baths. The changing room is small - there were about 10 of us ladies crammed into a very small area trying to change at the same time, you barely had space to step into your suit without bumping butts with someone else. I recommend putting on your suit before you board the shuttle: the "hike" isn't going to interfere. There is also a private bathroom there that embarrassed kids can use to change. This experience also depends on who you're with. Our group contained some dopey "influencers" who were bending over taking pictures with their butt cheeks hanging all out, trying to be all sexy, it was both ridiculous and rude, they seemed to think this was their private photo shoot. This area is too small for that nonsense. Everyone except the influencers was really nice. There's a hot bath, a warm bath, and then the very cold stream. The floors are rock/gravel - no need for water shoes, but you do want to be careful. The scenery is amazing. We were initially bummed that we were only going to spend 1/2 hour in the water, but it did seem like the right amount of time at the end. At the end of the baths, the guide led us across a little gravel road and got to see a really tall waterfall, a nice little surprise. Note that the location where you pick up the shuttle is in front of the little restaurant at the Hotel Husafell. The place is expensive and food is just okay; wish we'd noticed the deli next door!
