South Sea Island Half Day Cruise

Must do !!

This is definitely a 5/5 experience. Transport from your hotel to the port included which is gr8. Warm welcome boarding the boat with cocktail, stunning trip out to the anchor point near reef and sand bar, excellent staff instructions. Next was drinks on the sand bar celebrating our fab view of the reef. Then free time to swim, snorkel, standup paddle board, slide down the slippery dip or jump off the boat. Lunch was out of this world.

Great day trip for young families, but make your own way home if transfers are delayed

Loved our trip to South Sea Island with young kids. Half day was perfect amount of time to have lunch, watch the performance, explore the island, swim in the pool and take a ride in semi submersible (a highlight for the 4 year old). The organisers have clearly taken on board feedback from earlier reviews and improved the experience. They've had sand shipped in - we all wore thongs/flip flops or reef shoes, but even those in bare feet were able to walk around most areas fine. It is naturally a coral island. There was a separate buffet lunch for the half day group, so there was plenty of fresh food ready for us when we arrived. The meat is barbequed right before your eyes, so everything is fresh. We took our own snorkeling gear and I would recommend you do the same. The share snorkel gear every in Fiji leaves a bit to be desired. They had stacks of lifejackets available and other families were going out on stand up paddle boards and kayaks. Bring your own buckets and spades if you want to do this (but there are lots of shells, coral and flotsam/wood for kids to play with). It's pretty warm if the sun is out, we just used the shade around the main areas and the picnic tables (there are separate tables reserved for the half day group to eat lunch). If you want a sunbed and you are arriving in this later group, pay to book one. Very quick to get over there on the boat. We had an issue with the return transfer to Port Denaurau resorts (the bus was full and they said another was coming, but it transpires the same bus would come back after dropping everyone off about 40 mins later - grumpy tired kids playing in gravel beside a car park in dark not ideal). If there's no bus available when you get back and you have young kids, just jump in a taxi or get on the Bula bus. Better than waiting for the transfer. We were the only family left waiting, all the others were adults. Staff were very friendly. Fantastic day. Would definitely go again and recommend for friends and family.

People who hoard up chairs suck

Tour was good. My biggest complaint is other people who are there earlier taking up all the chairs & hoarding them as they own them & are no where no be found. Meanwhile people like me would’ve liked to utilized them

Good day trip, needs some upgrading

Island is looking a wee bit tired and could do with some upgrades to the facilities such as the loungers and hammocks. Maybe oversold our trip too as a lot of people in a small island with not enough seating places for everyone. The positives, staff were great, the submerged boat is awesome, master 4 loved it. The beach area is lovely and water is crystal clear, lots to see when snorkeling.

Amazing fun day

Absolutely amazing day. The coral, fish and other sea creatures like Turtles and Stingrays were so great to see. The lunch and drinks were all included. Highlight recommended.

Wonderful intro to Fiji

Perfect first cruise! We went again on this ferry and all the crew recognised us and made us feel so welcome! The ferry cruise was beautiful. Getting the little boat from the ferry to the island was so much fun! The island was tiny and adorable. The glass bottom boat was an amazing experience - we saw so much. The food was lovely. With the half day we didn’t get to snorkel but we didn’t mind as it was just such a wonderful introduction to Fiji. Everyone on the island were amazing and exceedingly welcoming and as we were the first ready to head back to the ferry we had a lovely chat with the skipper. Then on the way home we saw all the Mamanuca Islands and the locals as well as the crew pointed out the important islands and facts such as Mana where Castaway was filmed and the beach where survivor is filmed. Great as we got to see different resorts and plan the next trip. It was such a joy. The ferry is very comfortable and plenty of drinks and coffee available to purchase. We sat both outside and in the air conditioning and both were lovely experiences.

Island experience

Great day relaxing, snorkelling and enjoying the island. The traditional performance was an addition i wasnt excoecing. Highly recommend.

Avoid South Sea Island Cruises.

Heartless company. My daughter booked at 7am for my wife to go on the half day cruise. Unbeknown to her my wife is very sick.. At 9am we tried to cancel my wife's booking. They refused. Greedy animals. $409 down the drain. Avoid South Sea Island Cruises.

A must do!!

A great experience all around! Very knowledgeable and personable staff, relaxed with family after a tasty lunch.

Think could do better

Although rainy season we thought we'd give this a go to explore the sea through snorkeling and the semi submersible and a swim in the sea. Disappointing to say the least. They waited till we'd paid and were checking in before advising the semi was out for maintenance, and the snorkeling took more time to load the boat and get to spot than we were given to actually snorkel- 15 minutes! The lunch provided was not great. They were catering to the full day cruise with the same buffet but it ran from 11:30 - 12:30 and we arrived on the island for the tail end of that. Plenty of seating around the island but not a lot under shelter from rain, so if course you swim - the water was great but you need to take boat shoes as it is coral and quite painful to reach water without them. The cultural show was good.

A little disappointed in the South Sea Island Half Day Cruise

Booked and paid for cruise, went to book in and was told the underwater boat was not available on this cruise because of maintenance - abit late then we should have been told this when booking as it was a big consideration of taking the trip. Then told a different thing on the boat but still unavailable. Got to beach at 12.15pm to be told that lunch was on - we were obviously the tail end of the day long trip as food was dried up and not plentiful - was a real disappointment food wise and wouldn't recommend. Life show was good. Then got ready for the main reason for going - snorkeling trip. Too many people for the 1 boat so got on what I call a inferior boat - to be told that the trip was only 15 mins - not Fijian time but 15mins - pretty unfair when it takes a while to get everyone off the boat. But the time we did have in the water was good and plenty of fish. Because we were on the 2nd boat our only way of getting back on the boat was climbing a very unstable metal rung ladder - very uncomfortable and I think they were extemely lucky to not have anyone hurt - I suffer from a bad leg knee and the pain in attempting to get on the board was extreme - the other boat had a better system and epuipment to go on. Finally back to island and not their fault weather closed in but was still relaxing, drinks were easily got, company was great, locals were good. All in all I think the trip was a little over priced for what we got - they need to do something about timing for lunches and when they let people know equipment isn't working.

We really enjoyed the...

We really enjoyed the half day trip and made a lot of memories with our daughter. The catamaran was very comfortable all of the staff on the island were very hospitable, warm, and welcoming. We really enjoyed the fresh lunch and unlimited drinks. They also provided snorkelling gear. The water was very clear but the ground was very rocky so I recommend wearing slippers in the beach if you don’t like that.

Half day would be best if you are wanting to relax.

South sea island cruises is a great way to get around to islands. We unfortunately didn’t have the best experience at south sea island. Highlights were the in arrival welcome song and that the staff were all so nice and helpful. Also watching a big volley ball game at the end with the staff and tourists that was fun to watch. I would probably recommend to people who are definitely looking for max relax then this might suit you best as the island is very small and you can walk around in less than 10 minutes. We just were expecting a little more snorkelling ops which you do get 15 mins of and an awesome guide but if the boat is packed it doesn’t make for a great experience. We weren’t able to get on the glass bottom boat as there were too many people which was a shame as I think that might have been better than the snorkelling experience we had as there is definitely a lot to see.

The lunch was good. Weather was little rainy and windy so several options were cancelled. Beach was very rocky. We left early to go back.

The Fijians know how to enhance an experience with their laughter and positive outlook on life.

My wife and I went on a half day cruise with South Seas Cruise. It was excellent weather but the staff throughout were excellent. From Intake to the team on the cruise plus the Island staff. In particular ,Alfred one of the Tender Boat drivers went above and beyond with his sense of humor and pleasant personality and disposition. I have never witnessed a staff who enjoy their work and are happy and smiling for the guests. We have had excellent experiences in Fiji and this excursion just solidified our high opinion of the country as friendly and hospitable. Daryl & Karen Samson Vancouver BC Canada.

Below Expectations

Apart from great views on way to Mana Island Resort, everything else was below expectations. No clear instructions and the staff at resort were not friendly. The food included was ok but there were so many flies swarming, there was no way it was hygienic to eat There was a lovely staff doing the Kayaks but any promises of snorkelling were at your own risk and there was really nothing to see underwater. There are far better value and better run day tours. I cannot recommend Sputh Sea cruises. All they cared about was taking my money.

Not what I expected felt more like a ferry than a cruise

Very disappointing not what we expected. The trip out wasn’t too bad but coming back we felt like a ferry picking up workers do not recommend. The food was also below average. Upon return we boarded the bus and were made to wait 40 mins for other passengers who were transferring from one hotel to another.. with a 3 year old child we were not informed that we would be waiting that long. We would have caught a taxi back if we were informed of this. This was the worst part of our trip. I felt ripped off for the money we spent. Just writing this review is actually making me cranky..

Combo cruise - one big disappointment

We went on the Combo Tour. The tour is very disorganised from check in right through to the tour itself. Disengaged staff. No safety whatsoever. Announcements can barely be heard. And that lunch was horrific - lukewarm sausages, dry chicken and undercooked meat Patties. If someone were minded to take this tour, highly recommend reef shoes the sand is very rocky and lots of shells.

Amazing and memorable

Great communication prior. Fantastic views and staff. Excellent experience and activities. Snorkelling was everything promised. Bbq lunch was tasty and heaps of drinks on offer

Had a great time.

Had a beautiful half day. Food was delicious and plenty of water activities. If you get the chance you must do this while in Fiji.

A great day on South Sea Island

The trip was well organised, and the time on the island was excellent. The buffet lunch was good, and the use of all non-motorised watersports made it a great day. Only one area where there could be improvement is that the tours seem to be overbooked meaning that there is limited space and chairs/tables/shade are at a premium. The island is also coral, so footwear is definitely needed.

Excellent family day out!

We read a few mixed reviews on this trip but honestly this was an excellent day out and we were all very happy! The half day was the perfect amount of time for our family of 2 adults 2 kids. We got there and had a really yummy BBQ buffet lunch of salads, bread, meat and tropical fruit and listened to some Fijian songs and dances. Then went snorkelling, swimming and kayaking, and for a ride in the glass bottomed boat. Loved the free bar, multiple beers, wines and soft drinks were had! Weather was great too. There was also another bar where you could buy additional snacks and cocktails etc. The only negative is that the pool is a bit small so was quite crowded but the kids still went in and I was very happy swimming in the sea. Bring reef shoes as there is coral around. Definitely loved this trip to South Sea Island and would go again!

Was ok

We spent half a day at the island. It was a nice stay. The food could have been better. The island is quite small. Perfect for half a day.

Absolutely loved this experience, so glad that I booked this, was amazing! The staff are just the best and the island is absolutely gorgeous. 100% recommend.

Advise against half day your

Really disappointed by this trip. We went today, did the half day tour which was meant to depart at 12:25, we waited 1 hour on the port for the boat to arrive, and hundreds of people to disembark, plus their luggage. We didn’t leave for the island until after 1:30. Once on the island we had our lunch, had a 10 minute swim then hired snorkelling gear, since we had a 3 year old with us i snorkelled for 20 minutes and then we heard the call for reef snorkelling, we tried to get our son dressed and into kids club but we missed the boat, they assured us another would be leaving in 15 minutes so we sat and waited.. the boat came back but then they boarded all those travellers leaving early, it did 3 trips then came back full to un load. It was 4:20, kids club closes at 4:30, so we got our son (they never took out another snorkel boat), so we waited 45-1hr just sitting on a rock. We swam for 5 minutes and then heard the 15 minute warning for departure ( at 4:30, when we weren’t meant to board to leave until 5:15). It took a long time to board everyone on, as it was travellers plus staff. We got back to the port at 5:30, when we were told it would be 6. We spent a lot of money to spend 20 minutes snorkelling (with nothing that interesting to see), had 3.5 hours travel time as resort on coral coast. I would avoid the half day if it is so inconsistent with departure times, as we were left with little to no time do anything - we could have stayed at the resort and snorkelled.

Fiji island time

Thoroughly enjoyable island day out. Boat ride out was good but you do have to pay for own snacks and drinks. Arrival on island is a little difficult to navigate, with sharp coral sand that cuts your feet so best to wear water shoes. Buffet lunch on island was nice, plenty food to go round. Free beer wine and soft drinks on island and a stall to purchase ice cream and snacks. Snorkling and semi sub tours were available and enjoyed by all. So much to do or just swim and relax. Highly recommend this island cruise.

Perfect half day cruise to South Sea Island

Had about a 23-24 hour layover in Nadi. South Sea Cruises was the only one I found that offered a half day cruises (about 5 hours). It ended up being perfect for the short stay. It went smoothly and exceeded all expectations, would recommend if you don't want to spend all day out in the seas and islands.

Fun day out

Gorgeous island with wonderful staff and lots to do. Really enjoyed snorkeling and the glass bottom boat. The food was delicious and the cultural dancers were awesome. Will go back for a full day tour next time.

Southsea half day - scuba diving with Ratu!

Great half day cruise - aircon bothways quick trip - best scuba dive with Ratu barefoot diving Fiji - good price, awesome guide and experience - just walk straight into the water from the beach - lots of action shots and videos - treasured experience.

Great location and snorkeling

Was a great trip. We did a half day and that was the perfect amount of time. Got to enjoy the lunch, dancing and singing from the staff, the pool, snorkeling on the beach, glass bottom boat and the guided reef tour. The snorkeling is amazing. The staff are really friendly and nothing is too much. Would definitely recommend

A great half day adventure!

A well organised tour with lovely and friendly staff from the ticket office in Port Denarau, cruise crew and staff at the island. Everything went as planned and expected. The lunch provided was very good and the available drinks as well. The snorkelling 🤿 gear was great. The shower/changing rooms would benefit from an update (at least more hooks on the wall/door). Overall, a lovely experience!! 💙

Great half day out

Good trip with extended family. Staff are friendly & got to see a good show with plenty of food & drink which is included. Snorkelling from the small boat was a highlight from the island.

Beautiful cruise

Beautiful ride to the island.I have to say the welcome serenade was lacklustre and non authentic .Although i really enjoyed being on the island as there are lots of water activities for kids and adults alike. Snorke, ,Scuba,kayak ,dip in the salt water pool or just chill on a hammock or relax on a chair by the beach and snoo ze away to the sound of the waves and the scent of crisp ocean breeze.Got to enjoy some traditional dances by the staff and also had a hand in DJ.Karaoke is also available. BbQ lunch was awesome.Disappointing part was noticing how the staff tend to treat the tourists better than the locals.As a customer service employee myself ,I was appalled.

South Sea Island day cruise!

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! From checking in at the marina, catamaran trip to the island, BBQ lunch with unlimited beer, wine, soft drinks etc, snorkeling, swimming, glass bottom boat ride and amazing entertainment from the beautiful Fijian entertainers! Everything was included. We had the best day ever!

Lovely day out with my teenager kids. Small island but lots of fun things to do. Lunch and beverage included. Half day was just right.

This was a highlight of our holiday! The snorkeling was amazing and there was plenty to do - and a beautiful beach to relax on. Next time I would do the whole day trip!

South Sea Half Day Getaway

South Sea Island worth a visit! A half day tour was definitely enough as it is a small island. Unfortunately we didn’t get any sunshine and it rained most of the day but was still fun and the staff were lovely! Submarine water adventure was incredible too!

Must do while in Fiji

Worth ever penny. The whole family enjoyed the cruise. There was something to do for everyone. Highly recommended!

Half day heaven!

The scenery, friendly South Sea team members and the island was amazing! The transport to the island was seamless and everything you needed was right there.

Half day on South Sea Island, Nadi

Fun day with the friendly staff. Simple but great lunch. Enjoyed relaxing on the ample deck chairs under shade. Canoed, paddle boarded and snorkeled the day away. Would recommend as a “to do” if you are in the Nadi region.

Incredible...Unforgettable

This was the best organised tour I have ever been on...absoluely unforgettable. An incredible day out with something for everyone in our family!!!

Trouble trip, bad dission to go to this island.

There was nothing too good about this trip apart from the cruise from the island. Cruise was awesome, that's all. Island was beautiful but the beach wasn't clean at all. Too many Rick's in water and too many shells on beaches.

Horrible customer service and experience

Horrible experience!!!TOTAL SCAM! We booked a tour on Sunday 23rd around 11:30AM for a half day trip. The website mentioned the tour stared at 12:15pm (never mentioned that the starting point was the port) therefore we selected the place we wanted to be picked up and allowed us to choose a place. Then we proceeded to pay and call the place to confirm and they said the tour time was from Port Denarau and not the pick place which was never mentioned in place so we asked what shall we do then, is someone pick us up since the price included the pick and everything but they said that no, no one could pick us up since the pick up time had already passed. I don't understand why the website allow us to book a tour that did not have availability to pick people up anymore and why it does not mention that the startingtime is from the port and not the pick up time. We called several times and asked if the cruise could wait 5 minutes since we were running late because we waisted time asking if we're going to pick us (since we booked at 11:30 and the tour time said 12:15 the same day) We arrived in Port Denarau and south sea cruise employees advise us that the cruise was already full with 200 people and there was not more availability for us and they were not responsible for that. Prior to arrive to the port we called and asked to wait for us for two minutes since we have to pay extra for a taxi to take us to port denarau even though the tour included pick up. Called the agency and nobody help us and south sea cruises did not help us either. They definitely ruined a day in Fiji. They were very rude to us and did not help us at all. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOKING AGENCY!!! What a fraudulent company!

A sleep in followed by some sun

Such a great half day on a beautiful island with amazing people. The facilities were great and the lunch was delicious. Lots to do once you’re there.

Half day Island tour was amazing! Totally recommend doing this.

We had an amazing experience visiting the island and would totally recommend the half day tour. Staff were friendly before the tour, on the boat and on the island. We are four old school friends from way back in our early sixties and loved it! You can do what ever you want once you get there, no pressure. I recommend wearing "reef shoes" for walking on the beach as there is lots of coral in the sand.

Good day of doing nothing much at all

The included BBQ was nice food which both the kids and adults enjoyed eating. The cultural welcome was really good and taking pics with the performers was good fun and made for a nice memory. The limited free bar was put to good use by the husband. The guy at the cocktail bar made a solid Long Island Ice Tea. Ultimately we did nothing for the afternoon. We opted not to partake in water activities so can't comment on those. We had a quick dip in the very tiny pool before we pulled up in the poolside deck chairs for some sun and cocktails. Suited us fine to be honest, we had such a big week it was nice to just chill. The place is very small and the facilities are quite tired, so if u had certain expectations I don't know how it'd stack up. This trip was included in our holiday package so I hadn't done any research so didn't have any expectations other than lunch and beer was included, which it was. We had been on the Malamala day trip the day prior and they were chalk and cheese in terms of the level of luxury and despite being the same tour company the communications on the boat ride to and from the islands varied greatly. Malamala you knew exactly what to expect on both ends, communicated clearly. On the South sea island boat ride the communications were almost non existent. We had no idea we'd be changing boats in the middle of the water to be shuttled in to the island until it happened and only knew where to go for the bus because we had been there the day before. Overall we had a great day of doing not much at all and the whole family was happy.

Perfect and Glad we did it!

This was such a great experience and Half Day was just the perfect amount. Arrived to a warm group singing to welcome us, then a brief orientation, bbq lunch with entertainment from a beautiful Fijian group and off to all activities that are offered like snorkelling, canoeing, submarine boat, volleyball and more! My only biggest piece of advice would be when booking this tour, before choosing a date, look up the weather for the week ahead and be sure to choose a day that has light to no wind as this way you won't have to miss out on anything like previous reviews have mentioned - our day was perfect as we looked ahead for the least windiest day because of what we read in previous reviews. It's no ones fault that the weather gets nasty so just be prepared to choose a good day!
