Butterflies forever!

Awesome experience for all ages! Highly recommend, then be sure to have lunch next door! Found everything we needed in Viator, and have already recommended their site to others traveling to Europe.

Waste of money. Staff unable to deal with disabled customer

Hardly any butterflies. Dying plants. Over in 10 minutes and that's walking slowly. The staff were very unhappy about opening the larger barrier to let me through with my walker. I couldn't get out either. A kind member of the public lifted my frame over the barrier so I could get out.

watch out for the 🦋

Such a beautiful experience and very immersive. only thing to say that if you visit here be so careful when walking around. me and my mum watched the same girl step on two poor little butterflies, obviously it was done unintentionally but she was too invested in taking pictures to watch where she was stepping. it’s especially difficult when the buterrflies are the light brown colour that almost completely blend in. we were extra cautious when we were stepping around and then took pictures and looked around whilst standing still:) just a little note because otherwise these poor butterflies won’t see you coming 🦋🦋🦋 especially in the darker rooftop steps and the little tunnels as they fly in there and are difficult to spot. couldn’t recommend more though, worth every penny 💘

pricy and hot, but worth a visit if you love butterflies

We came during the summer and the heat was pretty awful, especially because the greenhouse makes it even more humid. The price was also pretty high (9€) considering it's not that big and can be visited in 15-20 minutes. However if you love butterflies and nature this visit is a must, as you will be able to see the butterflies up close and they will fly all around you, just a magical experience! I recommend coming in colder months as you will not find the temperature too unbearable, and there will probably be fewer people, allowing you to sit on one of the few benches and enjoy the atmosphere 🦋💐✨

Must do experience in vienn

Wow. I was absolutely stunned by the beauty found at the butterfly house. Being able to see all the cocoons of different types of butterflies was a nice touch as well. I saw so many different types of butterflies, flowers, and plants. Only complaint was children touching everything they saw.

amazing!

Everything was beautiful, the only thing downside is that there were a lot of people and it was very hot and humid in there. Nevertheless, the place is a MUST VISIT when you’re in Vienna. I read reviews before going and everyone said that there are not many butterflies but that’s so not true… there are a lot of them and they’re so friendly.

Unique experience

It was a very unique experience, I even had a butterfly land on my arm. It was much warmer in the building than expected but it was a nice warm break from the cold. Perhaps a sign pointing out the entry would be helpful.

I was disappointed.

I was a bit disappointed because it was very crowded. For such a small place there were to many people. You tried to take a photo then someone bump into you.

Visit the butterfly house

We were so pleased we added this to our itinerary whilst in Vienna. So beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Lots of butterflies, beautiful flowers, a bridge you can view from. Was definitely an unexpected highlight

Disappointing

Not many varieties. Quite a lot damaged, I.e. damaged wings. Worst bit was having to print 7 pieces of paper per ticket when booking online.this was only attraction doing this. All others sending tickets online. Thought we were trying to save planet?

We loved it

It was nice but a bit smaller than expected. It only takes maximum half an hour to get through it all.

Very fun!

I disagree with all the negative reviews, which invariably lack context. This is part of an iron and glass former Palm House adjunct to Hofburg. It costs a fortune to maintain these types of structures. €9 is too much for you? Not to its many visitors. People have short attention spans. There are 200+ butterflies in this small space. I just went, and they were landing on many people, including me. Don’t expect to be inundated with butterflies like in some Disney movie. Be patient and still. The worst part is adult men plucking butterflies off feeding stations and planting them on their girlfriends. Gross. I’m sure kids touch them too. People don’t know how to behave. Get over it. Loved it.

Beautiful, but short

Beautiful, but won't take too much of your time. I traveled with family and the website said we should spend at least 2 hours here. We needed 20 minutes and were done.

It was magical!

What an experience! A very beautiful space and very beautiful butterflies flying around. It felt like I was in a fairytale with so many different butterflies flying past or just chilling on the flowers or eating fruit. I had such a great time in there and didn't want to leave. Definitely worth doing!

Wonderful Experience

This place was beautiful and there were butterflies EVERYWHERE!!! The green house had beautiful plants and water that really enhanced the experience. Also, the gift shop had several gifts for adults and children!

Good bad upsetting

Very nice place however no control at all, too many people inside and nobody is checking what the visitors are doing…. Young children touching, killing the butterflies and parents do not care do not address teach, let them know that nobody can touch the butterflies! Sad to see the beautiful dying creatures.

Beautiful

Absolutely loved this butterfly house. We saw some beautiful butterflies, plants and flowers. Well worth a visit we thought.

We went there in October. It was nice. It is small and you go through very fast, but you xan enjoy the place and stay around as long as you want.

Wonderful experience, beautiful idea. Inside it’s fairly warm, but they have a few coat racks in-front of the entrance. Besides butterflies there is also a small pond with fish. A lot of people inside though! So be prepared for talking noise

Nice experience terrible personnel

Ok outer structure and nice inside setting, but the Ticket lady was extremely unpleasant and ruined the whole experience. We were there on Christmas morning and although the place was not too crowded, she was extremely rude and unpolite, unable to deal with paying customer. World not recomend

Fully recommend it with or without kids

Very nice place, well kept., lots of big butterflies with amazing colours, great nice plans. An overall very nice experience for me and my 11 years old daughter. Fully recommend it.

Peaceful Haven

I loved the natural environment that the butterflies have to live in. Everything about this place is absolutely beautiful with the water features and different varities of flowers and plants

where were the butterflies?

Another tourist trap! too expensive regarding on what it has to offer: we could only see just a few butterflies and we coud not trace any big extraordinary species that the leaflet was advertising. The space was too small and there was no limit about the number of people getting in so it was overcrowded...

Butterflies 🦋

This lovely butterfly house is small, but well designed. It's like walking into a sauna... tropical plants and butterflies! The butterflies like eating apples and bananas! Located in Burggarten Park.

Nice place

Entrance fee is not cheap. But it is a very well maintained place, plenty of plants and butterflies. The girls enjoyed very much, so this is definitely worth a visit.

Disappointing!

Too expensive for the whole thing. The area is actually pretty small, a lot smaller and less impressive than the tropical garden in the Vienna zoo.

A quick little stop full of beautiful butterflies

Very beautiful exhibit we just kind of stumbled upon while walking through the city. So many butterflies and was great to see so many children so excited by them flying around.

Beautiful Butterfly House

This place is gorgeous. I spent about an hour here, looking at all the gorgeous butterflies, most of which were quite friendly. There were a lot of butterflies of different breeds, sizes, and colors. Some camouflage really well, so keep an eye out for them. The price is not bad if you spend a decent amount of time there, especially if you are a student or have any of the other discounts. I imagine it is great for family or friend outings, dates, photography practice, and more.

Beautiful place to visit with all kind of butterflies. The feeling is like you are in a big forest and the only thing you can hear are birds and water falls. All over the place they have fruit plates, after I grab a grape the butterflies come to it. Definetly a once in a life time experience.

Very close to be a fraud.

Very close to be a fraud. Cramped location, from the entrance ticket to the shop, forget the social distancing. The so-called "Butterfly House" is probably 10 meters long and absolutely not enjoyable, not a bit. Very few butterflies that can be seen mostly in the -very artificial- feeding stations. Save your time and money and avoid this tourist trap. If you care about butterflies please go to the zoo and visit the tropical area.

was so beautifull and warm for Christmas time when i visit its not that big but can be fast overcrowed

A beautiful surprise

The Butterfly House is located in a very similar architectural building to the Palmenhaus in Schönbrunn. It is not so huge to visit as part of is a restaurant. At the first sight butterflies are not visible but after a while you can see they are everywhere. Most of them are black but there are some coloured. I have never been before and it was a lovely surprise. Inside it is humid even in winter and I suggest to take the jacket off and leave it at the wardrobe.

Exptected more

I honestly expected a better place. As an entomologist, I'm used to going to butterfly houses and this one was just ok.

tons of butterflys

If you like the feeling of hundreds of butterflies with every pattern and color you could imagine, this is for you. If you stand still they will even land on you. The 6 year old, who is a butterfly fanatic, loved it -- she even put some food on her finger (this one butterfly, it seems, loves bananas) and she had a friend for the whole visit. It is very hot and humid in there... so if it is hot outside, it is even hotter in the house.

Dead butterflies, overdue products, rude employees

I visited with my family and was quite shocked about the amount of dead butterflies, almost half of them dead. In their shop I bought seeds for a meat eating plant for my nephews, which I then later realized were overdue when I checked the date, I went back there and spoke to the manager who didn't want to give me the money back, he told me to come back if the seeds don't grow, which they didn't do. Since I was a tourist it also was not a possibility for me, so I found this extremely arrogant and rude and I would really not recommend this place.

They will land on you, just FYI

Possibly the most peaceful, fascinating part of our holiday. This - without even a hint of exaggeration - is a tropical paradise that will leave you in awe of its several types of butterfly. You can tell that the butterflies are very well looked after - being surrounded by various species of plants, bodies of water and fresh fruit - as hardly any were attracted to the lemon we had (stupidly) rubbed on to our hands two minutes prior. The only improvement that could be made is to perhaps provide more staff, as the woman on the desk - though coping and being extremely polite - was clearly struggling. Regardless, it was a very lovely, humid experience.

Small and not worth it

I normaly love butterfly houses, but this one was really small and expensive in comparison to others. After 10 minutes we walked through the greenhouse and lost €7.

Very pretty building but not may butterflies.

This was a really pleasant building with lovely plants and not too busy. Not many butterflies, and most were brown with an occasional brightly coloured butterfly. It is only a short experience but nice and calm.

Disappointing, barely wheelchair accessible

We expected more than we got. We imagined that a Butterfly House in Vienna must be very spectacular but it wasn't unfortunately. It was small and very crowded and not many butterflies at all. Their website said that disabled people and their helpers go in free of charge but although my husband is wheelchair bound we still had to pay almost full price for the ticket. Their website also says they have accessible toilets and this is not true either! At least not in a wheelchair.

Prices unreasonable

It was quite full, only one cash register for the shop and entrance tickets. From the outside, the building looks much bigger than it actually is. The entrance fees are quite high, I spent about 30 minutes there and saw everything. Otherwise, I can confirm what the previous speaker said.

A very expensive ticket to visit a small place where plants and a couple of butterflies abound. It is not worth wasting time on this visit.

Not recommended

Unfortunately, we cannot give a better rating. The prices are unreasonable. There are butterflies with damaged wings everywhere, which is probably due to the many visitors who feel the need to touch the animals. Since there is no one there to check, it is unlikely to get any better. To attract the animals, there are cheap plastic containers with fruit that are right next to the paths, so that the animals are also at risk there. Overall, unfortunately, not recommended.

Nice, but too crowded

We had to queue for a while and the butterfly house was very crowded, you were almost pushed through. We were through it after just ten minutes, but then we walked the circular route again because I would have found the €9 entrance fee very steep otherwise. It was beautifully designed with a watercourse, a bridge, statues and lots of plants, but overall it was quite small. There is a similar butterfly house in Luisenpark with more butterflies and wider paths, where you can spend longer. Perhaps they should offer tickets for time slots to avoid overcrowding, similar to the Miniatur Wunderland.

Many species of butterflies. We really enjoyed the moment! There were enough butterflies, of different species.

Small greenhouse but nice experience

It is a small greenhouse dating back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire where many butterflies are cared for. It is certainly a great experience, even for the little ones, despite the many tourists (avoid the weekend) and the slightly excessive ticket price (€9.50).

Beautiful, but crowded

A beautiful palm house with lots of different butterflies. Unfortunately, too many people are allowed in and at times we had to squeeze through the crowd.

Fairytale

Wonderfully relaxing. Great plants, lots of beautiful large butterflies. Admission price is reasonable.
