Evening at Schönbrunn Palace Vienna: 3-course Dinner and Concert

Ethereal setting

We had a great experience . The restaurant was and the venue for the chamber music was ethereal. We were surprised with opera music as well. Great evening - highly recommend!!!

Probably better deals than this.

Dinner was so so. Service was terrible. We arrived 15 minutes early and waited almost a half hour for the first course to be served. Each course took forever to come out of the kitchen. Food was ok, not great, not bad. The venue is nice, but you really only see a very small part of the palace. The room the concert is very large, probably 300 plus people in there. Sound was awful, very muddy. First half of the concert (all Mozart and a little Haydn) was great, second half with Strauss and others not so much. We bought “A” tickets are were probably 15 rows back.

Skip The Dinner

Concert was lovely...do one while in Vienna. Although this is sold as dinner and concert at the palace, there is no real benefit getting the dinner. It is a pre set 3 course meal with ZERO choice and no real connection with concert venue...just that you come to the restaurant with a pre paid voucher for your dinner. Beef soup, average beef main, undercooked apple strudel pastry dessert....yawn. The restaurant is fine but go there without this package and order what you want...this was a total let down and not good value for money. Concert YES...dinner package NO!

An enjoyable evening

The Opera singers fantastic - the music accompanying too - wouldn’t though bother with the meal before - restaurant lacked any atmosphere and food mediocre.

Very low level compared to the expectations raised by event title.

The enviroment completely out of the expetations. The dinner was in the museum cafeteria and the concert was in the restored old stables. The expectation was that both events would have been in the palace lounge. It is important to describe this types of details.

Romantic Evening

Beautiful evening from start to finish. Food was delicious and the concert was magical. Be sure to take a couple Euros for the mandatory coat check.

Good but needs more details on how to get to the place

I love the clasic music that is why I have purchased the VIP tickets to celebrate my birthday in VIENNA with a live concert and dinner. Do not get me wrong the food was great, the concert place beautiful is just that the information to get to the place is so poor and then there is not assigned seats on VIP and they charge you to keep your jacket. So nice experience just need a little bit of more details when it comes to how the package and arrival.works.

Poor restaurant experience

The concert was very enjoyable but the dinner beforehand was not a very satisfactory experience. The restaurant that we were allocated was Joseph II as the other one (Tafelspitz) was not available when we booked. The restaurant severely lacks atmosphere and we had the impression that it might be used as an overflow for people who could not be accommodated in the main restaurant. It was almost empty on the evening in question. We arrived a little before 6.30pm, having first gone to the ticket office to collect our tickets. Nonetheless we were pressurised to finish our dinner as quickly as possible, apparently because the chef wanted to go home, and each course arrived within a couple of minutes of the preceding one. On the basis of this experience we would not recommend the concert plus dinner option; it would be better to eat in the city centre and come just to the concert.

Beautiful concert BUT 3 Course meal needs major improvement.

The concert was beautiful and the acoustics amazing. For a performance hall of this caliber the seat layout needs improvement to allow all to see the concert and what they paid for. Chances are very high that someone short or medium height, will have a very tall person sitting in front and completely blocking their view. The 3 course meal was a total letdown in service, quality of the food and delay in serving the food. We got to the restaurant at least 1.5 hours before the performance and had to rush through our meal because the kitchen was obviously backed up and short staffed. Drink selection was sub par.

Great performance

Great performance and very nice atmosphere ! The orchestra and the soloists offered a really good trip through some of Mozart and Strauss best.

A lovely cultured evening

The beautiful surroundings and fantastic music. The meal included is a short walk away but very nice food.

Great dinner, entertaining performances

Dinner of beef roast was good, the performances after were also great. A mix of a big ensemble concert and opera performances. Too bad we did this the first night we arrived from a 20 hour flight from another time zone, so we were falling asleep during the performance. The lag between dinner and performance was also kind of big (630pm vs 830pm). Recommend you do this only after you’ve already adjusted from your trip if coming from a long journey.

Great performance and food. The ambience is not as advertised though

Amazing performance and the dinner was great. While the performance did not happen in schonbrunn itself, four star for the event. I was hoping to get a glimpse of schonbrunn, but disappointed.

Great concert experience

Great place for a concert. We didin´t know they were celebrating a special ocasion - The 9000 concert night. I think we would have loved to know ahead.

Not worth the money

Poor value for money… 2 sessions of about half an hour each with poor acoustics not worth the cost… left feeling we were tourist fodder

Great evening with dinner and concert. We had a three course tasty dinner at Joseph II prior to concert. Great service and friendly staff

Fabulous concert however the meal part was dissappointing

The concert was absolutely amazing. However the meal before was very disappointing. We arrived early at 5.50pm.and the man showed to.our table and we ordered a drink after the waitress reminded us that it was not included which was fine. However we then waited until 6.45pm for our entree. It would have been nice to let us know as we just sat there waiting, wondering what was happening when every one else around us ( obviously not part of the package) were served food etc Then even package people who arrived after us were served first. Just a little disappointing. However the show was amazing. Also both the show and meal are not at the palace and the restaurant is on the corner of a main road.

Great value for money. A definite must!

Having recently experienced a poor tour at The Musikverein with a 3 course dinner we did not have any high hopes of this tour. We were wrong. It was fantastic. The tour of the palace lasts about 40 minutes where you’ll have almost private access to the palace with an audio guide. You’ll then be accompanied to your restaurant for the evening where you’ll have plenty of time to have dinner and drinks (drinks are not included). The concert was amazing, held in the beautiful Orangerie. We had category C tickets which meant we were quite far back. We could still see the musicians ok, but we’ll be booking tickets further to the front next time.

A Wonderful Night of music

Amazing concert, great choice of pieces, lots of energy by the orchestra and conductor - they look like they were also enjoying themselves. Opera singers also provided a great mix between just musical and opera pieces. A wonderful night to remember. Our 13 year enjoyed it immensely.

Skip dinner - just buy the ticket for the concert

Take my advice, only order the consert, the food and restaurant was very awful. The waiter was rude and arrogant and the food not good. A soup of water for starter with some seule in it. Main course was ok - fare from great but ok and eatable. Dessert was a mashup of apples- ok but nothing to remember. So book a restaurant you’re self and just buy the ticket to the concert!

Excellent concert poor restaurant

Concert was amazing, thoroughly enjoyed it. Shame the meal did not live up to the same high standard! Vegetarian option was told tomato soup was first course but received salad leaves. Fish was lovely but potato slices were cold in places warm in others as if they had come from freezer and not cooked/defrosted properly. Meat option starter was some kind of clear soup with dumpling, but had no taste at all. Meat was nice but again potato cake was soft not crispy and cold. Strudel dessert was nice. To end on a plus point, again the concery was thoroughly enjoyable but please look for a different restaurant to include in the package!

Great Concert - Terrible Dinner

****4 stars for the concert was great. The palace was beautiful and the grounds are great for strolling around. With that being said, the dinner was terrible. ** 0 Stars- Pork broth was the “soup”. The main course was so bland I could not add enough salt to make it edible. Beef with a tomato sauce, potato cake and 1 cherry tomato that was the “vegetables”. I never use salt or pepper and not even that helped. The restaurant that is contracted is not worth the dinner as it was the worst meal oof my 7 days in Europe. Again, concert was great. But dinner was horrible.

Lovely evening of music!

What a lovely evening! The restaurant was convenient and the food was good. The performance was outstanding with many talented musicians. The opera singers were fantastic and they did a fabulous job connecting. The conductor was hilarious and encouraged audience participation. It was fantastic!

Mixed fellings

The tour was interesting, though short. The concert was wonderful in an amazing setting. The only let down was the dinner-a long walk (25mins) to a restaurant for an indifferent meal with no choice and not very attentive service. then the long walk back for the concert. This experience needs a re-think.

Please make the room cool!

The hall is hot and humid. We could hardly concentrate on the play. It should be improved! Think the package price!

A lovely evening

We thoroughly enjoy our evening listening to the powerful orchestra and vocalist performances. The setting in the palace was lovely. Our favorite part was when a child prodigy violinist performed. His performance was stunning and beautiful. We chose the package with the dinner before the concert. It was a nice dinner at a restaurant within walking distance from the orangerie and the food was great. Overall a lovely evening.

A lot of money for very little!

We were so looking forward to this. We didn’t realise the restaurant was not in the Orangery Palace where the concert was and we had to walk there in the pouring rain to the end of and across the road.The food was not good and we were served with everyone else and had to wait until everyone finished their course, for the next course. This was not anything special and the restaurant is open to anyone walking off the street.. No alternative food was offered so we were stuck with what the restaurant served, watery no taste consume, tasteless beef in gravy and apple strudel. We were even more disappointed by the concert, there are so many well known beautiful songs by Strauss and Mozart that the orchestra could have performed but instead apart from the Blue Danube the others were not known and this was indicative by there being no atmosphere by the orchestra or the audience. We were expecting a SPECIAL evening instead, a big disappointment.

not impressed

my friend and i were delayed from leaving one destination to arrive to another to Vienna causing to arrive there 11 hours late...therefore missing the whole event the company wanted my review of the concert and i replied as to what had happened....i did ask for another evening or a refund....NO ANSWER....the they sent me another review to write not impressed

Great atmosphere,

Great atmosphere! 16 pieces of music, only knew one, Blue Danube, sorry! Conductor had us allclapping. Food was good. The Orangerie was delightful, and plenty of taxis to take you to your hotel.

A nice evening with concert and dinner

Very nice concert with excellent musicians. The dinner and service was also very good (at restaurant Joseph II).

Thé concert was fantastic...

Thé concert was fantastic but the dinner was really bad. It was not at the castle but at a local mediocre restaurant everyone served the same thing. Beef, veggies and potatoes (I told them in advance I needed vegetarian and got the exact same plate without the beef) the dessert was warmed up in microwave and not good at all. Very disappointing since we were to be having dinner at the castle…

Dinner was a ripoff

The music was excellent! But we felt we got ripped off with the dinner which was supposed to be in the palace… the small restaurant which we were directed to was a disappointment. The food was not good and the service and ambiance was not good at all. Had we known this earlier we would have only got the concert tickets without dinner.

Wonderful dinner, kind...

Wonderful dinner, kind staff, and lovely music! I would recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys classical music in a beautiful atmosphere.

Vienna at its best !!!

Beautiful venue. Very friendly staff. From a 42yr musician…….. this was as good as it gets !!!! I’m assuming this is the transition to the Vienna Opera house

Good but…

Dinner was not at the palace or grounds, it was at an unrelated restaurant around the corner. You do not have an option they only had one choice so if you’re vegetarian or do not eat beef you’re out of luck. The concert was phenomenal but if you get a gral admission ticket don’t plan on being able to sit anywhere but in the back regardless of what time you get there.

DONT DO IT! too expensive, money could be better spent organising things yourself

I don’t recommend booking this through operatours Vienna. They already let us down by informing us 4 days after we’d booked the tickets that we could not attend the Lippizaner event . Then we expected something extra special with this expensive evening BUT the tour was one hour long, a self guided audio tour of only a little of the palace. The audio guide kept cutting out and was incomplete. The dinner was not in the Schönbrunner palace but in a restaurant outwith the complex. The waiter was very abrupt. We asked for tap water and were told they could give us bottled still or sparkling. The water was not on the menu and we were shocked to discover that it was more expensive than the wine. He wanted paid in cash. We didn’t have any cash. He told us that minimum card charge was 20 euros. My husband suggested that was theft. He accepted a card.

Absolutely Amazing!!

Delicious food, friendly server and quick service. The concert was absolutely amazing! My niece, who has never listened to classical music, was so moved by the music. The encore made it an even more magical night!

terrible experience

the restaurant was not worth entering. disgrace to sell such product. to me your business is a scam. I would advise not to use your service at all.

Take the concert, not the meal!

Firstly, the restaurant is across the street to the Schõnbrunn (not in the castle). The service is somewhat unacceptable; it depends upon if you are paying "À la carte" or you are part of the pre-paid concert meal. The server serves the "À la carte" clients first and these clients have better service, like they are 1st class client). The concert clients are served depending on how much beverage they order (2nd class) or not (3rd class). Having only order a glass of wine each, our service was very poor and slow. Secondly, the concerts is very good. Small, intimate, everyone feels invited to enjoy the musicians and opera singers. So, take the concert experience WITHOUT the meal. Make it special by choosing a restaurant of your choice before the concert. Your experience will be more enjoyable.

Definitely worth it but make sure you call them in advance

The opera spectacle was astounding, entertaining and something I’ll never forget. But when I booked this experience I expected something more organised! The information desk was vague and the experience doesn’t take place in actual palace. The I had to find the restaurant by myself and the waiter had no idea about this experience and the fact that the 3 course meal was included.. I just expected some better customer service I guess but overall it’s worth it.

Concert great, restaurant needs much improvement

I enjoyed the concert very much, but the retaurant was not so good, the service was very slow and the food only mediocre. I got a shock when charged extra for a glass of water

Concert was lovely. Meal was not. Slow chaotic service and food was mediocre. I would recommend the concert and passing to be near the front (zone a). I would not bother with the meal package.

Uneven experience

The concert was excellent. But the dinner was below average and so the sparkling wine. I recommend taking the concert only and not VIP. Doesn’t worth it. The dinner was especially unworthy. One could find way better places in Vienna

The dinner was the best part of the concert!

The orchestra was not coordinated at all, piano was too loud and destroy the joy most of the time as it sounded like someone was banging the pipes of the radiators. I had much better experience with other concerts in Vienna, even with a smaller orchestra at less fancier place.

Visit and concert were wonderful Dinner was medium It’s shame However I still have excellent off his experience
