Bratislava Day Trip from Vienna With Catamaran Cruise on Danube

Good tour recommended

The pickup driver Markus was good and friendly. Also the guide was good she explained properly. The follow up and info was properly shared by tour operator before tour started. One star less cause we missed cruise as it was canceled due to high water level in Danube.

Good tour!

I will start off by saying that the bus ride was simple to find, comfortable and quick. Our walking tour guide was fantastic. I'm so sorry I forget his name (perhaps Dima?) He was engaging and gave some amazing information as well as answered everyone's questions. I will agree with everyone else that the remaining allotted time was too much. We were done everything we wanted to see by about 4pm. Unfortunately, due to flooding and the Danube water level being so dangerous we had to return to Vienna by boat. Nothing the tour could have done about this.

Great day trip from Vienna!

An easy day trip from Vienna. What a beautiful town. We had a great guide who lived in Bratislava under Communist rule -- so interesting. And such an historic city -- had no idea!

Bratislava day tour

was raining the whole time, guide was very knowledgeable but we could not concentrate on what she was saying because it was very cold snd rainy. Transportation was comfortable the bus tide and the catamaran ride was good

Interesting city not sure about guide

Very interesting city! The tour could be improved. Too much talking and not enough time on key highlights of the city. The tour was in English but a lot of times the guide was talking in a different language to other guests.

Frozen in Bratislava

We strolled through the heart of the city, past shops, restaurants, and points of interest. The city is steeped in history including it's previous connection to the Soviet bloc of nations. It's a sister city to Vienna Austria, but's it's culture is so diverse. The food has a slavic cast to it with influences from other Baltic states. The cruise back to Vienna along the Danube was fun and relaxing. Great storytelling by our guide.

Great Day in Bratislava

Pick up at our hotel was great. Ride to Bratislava was good. Our guide in Bratislava was informative and showed us all the nightlights in town. Liked that we had lots of free time to explore on our own. All and all a good day.

Unsatisfied

I felt the tour was very disorganized. We transferred by bus from Vienna to Bratislava without a guide so it was just a transfer, there was no orientation or information. We were delayed leaving Vienna because one of the travelers was in a wheelchair and the tour manager didn’t know what to do about her since she couldn’t board the bus by herself. Apparently she was told by the tour company that it wouldn’t be a problem but the bus driver and tour manager were unable to help her on the bus for insurance reasons . The manager asked if anyone on the bus was willing to help and it finally took three people to get her on the bus. Once we got to Bratislava we were met by a local guide who spoke very low and monotone and it was very difficult to hear her unless you were standing right next to her and that wasn’t always possible with a group our size. There was a marathon that day and many of the streets were closed which seemed to confuse her in getting us around. She guided us through the old town for two hours and then left us on our own without our return catamaran tickets- we were told to pick up the tickets at the agency on the dock. If she advised that the agency was on the pier as you boarded the boat, I didn’t hear her since I couldn’t hear much of what she said. I wasn’t feeling well and decided to leave on an earlier boat and was in a bit of a rush to find my way to the dock. Fortunately I made it but wasted time looking for an agency on the dock since you could only see the office as you boarded. I don’t believe she gave us detailed information on how to find the ticket office and I feel we should have been given our return tickets and not had to allow extra time to find the office and pick them up. To be honest, I’m glad I saw Bratislava but I would have been better off going on my own as this tour gave me no advantage.

Worth a trip but not this one

Firstly, coach travel was comfortable and easy to find the guide etc. Definitely worth visiting the city for a day trip and Bratislava itself was friendly, cheap and had some nice cultural highlights and great views! The tour guide from this experience was awful, too many statistics and facts, no enthusiasm or engagement, she did not check to see if everyone was following and stopped at random points to share information not relevant to the setting. The tour was so bad, we left half way through to go and explore by ourselves. The boat ride was overrated, it’s just like public transport and not a cruise at all.

Seeing the old town was...

Seeing the old town was wonderful, and our guide was okay. However, the castle was disappointing as it was bare.

Not worth the money :(

Firstly, Bratislava is a lovely place to visit. I loved my time there. Read the reviews before booking. I’ve done heaps of Viator tours and this has been the worst. It’s no one’s fault, the guide used a small speaker which I couldn’t really hear her. You get on a bus, dropped off, walking tour for 1.5 hours then left there. Your finished the walking tour by 11:30am, catamaran back is at 18:30. You can ask for an earlier bait ride back but it’ll cost you at least an extra €10 if they have slots available. I’d recommend you take a bus to Bratislava, walk around the old town yourself and then take a bus back. It wasn’t worth the money at all.

Amazing tour to Bratislava

The day trip to Bratislava was amazing. We were picked up from our hotel exactly on time. The driver was friendly and gave us information on how the tour was going to be even though it was not his job. There was no guid on the bus but wr were met by a guid in Bratislava. She was very good, informative, although not that friendly she did her job extremely well. The free time was more than enough to explore the city. Amazing tour and I highly recommend it.

Could have done better

The trip was worth while but had some flaws. While the guide was I thought quite knowledgeable she only stayed with us for an hr and half to leave us on our own for the next 6 hrs. This was a bit long as there were not the museums to occupy time. The so called river cruise element by catamaran was a waste of time. It was dark so nothing to see and if it was light we wouldn’t have seen anything other than the banks. What really annoyed was we were put in the middle of the boat right next to the toilets and my wife and I were given seats in different rows.

Lovely outing to Bratislava

The departure from Vienna was smooth and the staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the weather on the day of my trip was cold, rainy and very windy. So I decided to not stand around for too long and listen to the explanations from the tour guide which were often too lengthy. I rather opted to explore the town on my own and had an amazing time, including doing some shopping at one of their large new shopping centres (Eurovea). As mentioned by other travellers, the return trip on the catamaran leaves quite late and therefore there is not much to see as the boat ride largely takes place in darkness. Of course, if you wanted to, you could just book a bus ticket and train ticket by yourself as it easy enough to get there. I preferred to do it via Viator and not have all the hassles of finding my way around. Overall, I had a lovely day in Bratislava and would recommend.

Easy toure of Bratislava from Vienna

Very easy journey to and from Vienna to Bratislava. Ivan was a fountain of knowledge in Bratislava, we enjoyed the tour and the suggestions for seeing more of the city. The city mueseum and Tower entrance were excellent.

Good value

I loved that we had plenty of time to explore Bratislava on our own. Tour guide friendly but seemed to be on a tight time schedule. Started talking before everyone was close to her. Did not use her microphone. Missed alot of the dialog. Nice coach ride over to Bratislava.

Ok, but not worth the money

Spare time. Book the trip for English, however the trip was in 2 languages which took twice as long. Catamaran should of been done going, as coming back was dark so couldn’t see anything.

Highly recommend this trip

The tour guide was amazing. She had a lot of historical facts and also recommended things to see after the tour like the blue church which was a highlight of the trip. There is plenty to see and do after the tour before the boat ride back. Not sure why some folks complained about all of the free time. The boat ride back was amazing!

Guide only in Bratislava for 1 hour , remaining time 5 hours all by ourselves ,not good , was rushed by the guide, pick up from hotel Vienna very good punctual, at meeting point only one small bus available, needed to wait another 30 minutes until a bigger replacement bus arrived

Nice city but 6hrs free time is way too much

The drive there is nice. The boat ride back was great. The city is very nice. The tour guide was very good. My main complaint is that you get 6 hrs of free time after the tour. That’s WAAAAAAAYYYY too long. The city is not big enough for you to fill 6hrs worth. If you want to change your boat ticket from 6:30pm to earlier, the only available time is 2:30pm. And some people tried but it was completely booked. I based killed 2hrs just reading by the water and that’s only because it took my sweet time when I see walking and I had a sit down lunch. Probably cheaper for you to buy the bus tickets on your own and spend as much or as little time there as you want. 6hrs is just way too much free time especially since the guide showed you most of the stuff in the 1.5hr walking tour

Very good day, with room for improvement.

I was lucky to go on a sunny warm day. Bratislava is a charming town, with a pretty city center. A driver picked me up on time, and he was very quiet. Thank goodness there was another person in the car, and she spoke German. I just followed her to the place we should get the bus. Smooth road to Bratislava, the guide was efficient. Nice boat ride back to Vienna. I agree with some reviewers that the time in Bratislava can be a bit too long. If you are a solo traveller, you might have trouble getting an outdoor table in several restaurants, but be persistent.

restful tour with plenty of free time

It is true that the bus acts as a transport but the guide does take you to a few important spots and provided a detailed map of how to visit the rest upon arrival. I didn't think that it took away from the experience and actually preferred it this way. I really appreciated being able to rest on the bus in the morning while also seeing the sites at my own pace. The map was really helpful to get the entire experience and the only extra cost was the castle admission - should you choose. I don't think having a guide along for the extra places would've added anything as they are "what you see is what you get" type buildings (ex the presidents house & operahouse). The free time was nice as we had time to have lunch and look at all the shop windows and go for tea. The only thing I would recommend to the company is reserving window seats for the boat ride back as we were some of the few who had to sit in the middle so didn't get to see much. Though overall it was a good experience.

Not worth it… find a tour when you get there

I’ve done a lot of viator tours over the years but this was very disappointing. We ended up leaving part way through because it was so painful. Our guide struggled with English and with providing any interesting background to what we were seeing. Then, a Spanish couple was placed on the trip so everything had to be translated twice. There were also a few rude guests on the trip, which was no fault of the tour, but the guide could not control them and they monopolized the tour with bizarre questions which meant we moved all of about 300 meters in 40 minutes.

Wonderful Bratislava

Absolutely a place not to miss if you have time to visit! There was plenty time to spend on your own. The trip back by catamaran was great even though it got dark after 30 min we left Bratislava. Maybe it should be offered going there instead of the bus trip.

It wss gr8 trip. But there was high water level, we missed the Danube Cruise. But overall a great experience.

Great Day Out

We really enjoyed this but I would agree with other reviews that the time allotted is too long. Nevertheless we spent lots of time watching the world go by eating ice cream and eating snacks and sampling beer. Walking guide was very good. Be mindful of pick pockets - don’t wear back packs on your back containing valuables (this warning from our guide).

Awful tour

We were told to use rest rooms before walking tour began, while in restroom our English speaking guide left. We had to find her. She was very boring and we were not told that most of the tour we were left on our own.

Not worth it, very disappointing

You are better off taking yourself there, it’s a cute town but the tour guide doesn’t show you anything interesting, just says you can take yourself later. I would have at least expected to be taken to the castle but you have to pay more get the the little trolley bus up there. Then when the tour ends at 12pm you are expected to be there until the 6.30pm boat back to Vienna. You can get the 2.30pm boat but of course that cost €10 to change which I found super rude as we weren’t given the option to choose the earlier boat.

Bratislava Day Trip

Bratislava is a beautiful quaint city with much to see!! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit as well as a lovely lunch. The guided tour was a bit too long with irrelevant information. The length of the wait for the return trip back to Vienna was 3 hours too long. Overall it was a lovely experience!!

Nice day trip but would prefer shorter time

This was a nice day trip from Vienna. I was picked up in a van from my hotel and taken to the spot where the buses leave The bus took about an hour to get there. Once on Bratislava, we were met by a local guide who took us around and gave brief info on each place, only stopping for a few minutes each time This took about 90 minutes. The idea is you then get 6 hours to look around by yourself and spend time where/how you watch. I liked this idea. My only suggestion is that once there they tell you if you want to return to Vienna earlier than the 630pm catamaran departure, you have to go to the office at the dock and ask if there's room on the earlier departure. At this time of year there was only a 230 (other times there is also a 430). To change, you have to pay €10. I wish they would provide the option for an earlier departure upfront when you first book. Several people from my tour opted for the earlier departure.

Beautiful day.

Delightful daytrip!! Company was great with email communications and answering questions. Very honest!! On time pickup/collection from our hilton hotel. Comfortable bus trip to Bratislava. Interesting views of a windmill forest amongst the beautiful natural forests. Met promptly by English speaking guide. She gave very vital and detailed instructions for later collection of boat ticket and timing and location. Then she walked and informed us of important sights, history and the comical statues. About 2 hours. After which we walked along a lovely tree lined boulevard and enjoyed ice cream and saw more sights. After a sidewalk cafe lunch, we enjoyed a 12 wine tasting at Michalská. Followed by a lovely walk across the Danube and time on the UFO Observation Deck and restaurant. And finally, a most amazing catamaran return on the Danube. Left our assigned seats to sit up top deck!!! Enjoy.

Great little city

Bratislava is a beautiful city. The tour started a little slow, we were moving very slowly for the first 1.5 hours, and it was really warm in the sun. The time wandering thru the city was great, and the catamaran ride back to Vienna was amazing.

It's ok

Nice to visit another country and city, but not very special. It's something to check-off my list. At least the Catamaran cruise was something to remember.

Do it yourself than take this tour

Bratislava is no more than an hour away from Vienna. You can easily (and more cheaply) arrange this yourself but I wanted to take any pain out of the day for us. We were picked up promptly from our hotel and taken to the Opera house for the coach. The coach is unguided but the journey is mostly motorway and uneventful. We were met under a dingy bridge by two guides - one for German speaking and the other for English speaking tours. Our guide made no attempt to count the group or even wait that long for those who wished to use the facilities at the bus stop. She then proceeded to tell us where to get the catamaran that evening (easy enough) but also the many ways we could return to Vienna by ourselves should we not wish to stay until the 6.30pm catamaran. She even said that she knew Vienna was far more interesting than Bratislava. She then proceeded to take us around the town giving very few interesting facts - there has to be more to the town than largely pointing out places to eat. We were advised of the high colon cancer rates due to Slovak diet but assured that if we ate there once we “should survive” - pretty poor taste in sense of humour. Otherwise, we were pretty much told not to bother with the castle and we should probably head to the shopping centre 10 minutes away. After what seemed an interminable hour and a half of depressing monologue (which was almost impossible for half of the group due to an inadequate microphone), we were left to our own devices. There were lots of lovely streets to wander around and some nice little shops. There isn’t a lot to entertain for the six plus hours of “free time”so we headed to one of the recommended places to eat. We were subjected to some of the worst customer service possible - this is one for the establishment, rather than the tour however. It does seem that bad customer service in restaurants is a thing in Bratislava, so one to keep in mind. The catamaran was brilliant and to be highly recommended. It was on time, fast and smooth all the way back. Overall, half a day would have done fine and I have no need to go back to Bratislava. I’d recommend self arranged travel and a picnic!

Had a great day in Bratislava. Was prepared for the long free time from reading the reviews so we rented bikes and travelled to Devlin Castle. Enjoyed the day and the Catamaran back.

Interesting city. Hard to hear the tie guides microphone. Headsets would have been easier to hear. She was very knowledgeable though and helpful.

Good Day Trip

The hotel pickup, the drive to Bratislava and Ivan our fantastic guide for the walking tour were great. From 11 to 6 was a long free time and the selected seats on the catamaran were very disappointing.

Nice tour!

Lovely day tour of Bratislava! What a cute little town! They picked us up by bus and transported us over the border from Vienna. Then the guide gave us a tour of the historical town on foot and then we had a few hours to wander around. I had a nice time and enjoyed the time I spent there.

Day in Bratislava

Lovely quaint place, plenty to see. Coach ride very comfortable did not take long. Guide was very good but sometimes could not hear her well. Catamaran was brilliant.

The trip was wonderful...

The trip was wonderful for us. But I would suggest letting people know that most tourist sites are not open on Mondays in the city. We loving walking a new place for hours. So it did not bother us. But I think most people would be bored.

Okay kind of tour

There should be option for seat selection. Overall good experience. But whole day might not be required to visit Bratislava.

NO VALUE FOR MONEY

Why would I show pictures of a nightmare.???. This trip was advertised as a "full day" tour. We were picked from our hotel.. Went to departure point for coach We then left for Bratislava on coach... No tour guide... No commentary during the 70k or so trip. Just a driver We left about 9 30am... Arrived about 11am . Met by local guide , who spat out English words,like they were coming from a machine gum. 1.5 hours out historical happenings, with dates supplied. So boring. People were leaving the group to sit down... due to ineligible crap. BUT That was the good part. At 12 30pm 'ish, the guide said " bye bye".. You have 6 HOURS of " Free time".. Be at the jerry by 6pm Lucky you... So you don't miss the catamaran. We wandered till 3pm.. Then out of sheer loss, of what to do next... Paid another €40.00 to make our own way back by train. On top of that, we paid A$270.00 to take part in this debacle. Viator needs to fully explain what happens on this day out .. Before you buy a ticket What you get... AND for how long.. It is a shame.. You are accompanied for 1.50 hours. Out of the whole day . And they should hang their heads in shame We were ill informed and got no value, for our money... NEVER AGAIN . R.BLANCH
