After some explications on miniature painting by Jeetu and his brother we started the class. Very good guidance by Jeetu throughout the class. One only realizes how difficult this kind of painting is once one tries to do it. Very interesting experience worthwhile doing. Plus we had fun.

The Number One Place for Miniature Paintings in Udaipur

Absolutely amazing experience. This little art shop is run by two brothers who are truly passionate about their work. They are some of the friendliest people I have encountered whilst I have been in India and they produce absolutely stunning artwork to match. There is no pressure at all to buy anything and would definitely recommend going just to learn about the artistic process.

Memorable miniature painting lesson

Had a lovely time drawing and painting a peacock in the style of Indian miniatures. It was great to do something different from sightseeing and also I learnt about the special brushes and stone paint. Would definitely recommend as very relaxing and therapeutic.

Amazing class

Absolutely beautiful art and the class was so fun! I learned so much from them. Definitely come here instead of purchasing more from the center (you will get a better price). Highly recommend!

Well worth a visit

We had a lovely time with brothers Naresh and Jeetu as they explained the process of painting miniatures and helped us during the lesson. Both were professional and kind. We appreciated that they did not try to upsell us, and it was clear that they have a true love for their art form that they want to share with others. Thank you both for the wonderful experience!

An unforgettable, magical afternoon of miniature painting

Inspired by our visit to the City Palace, we spent a wonderful, magical afternoon with Jeetu in his little shop around the corner from the Amet Haveli. First he allowed us to practise using one hair of the paintbrush and then we he carefully, step by step, encouraged us to create our own miniature painting of a peacock. It was the highlight of our trip to Udaipur and I can’t recommend it more highly. I have no painting experience, but was not disappointed with the outcome and Jeetu is an excellent teacher, offering encouragement along the way. We did buy a couple of miniatures at the end to take home as presents, but there was absolutely no pressure to do so. We have already recommended him to several people we have met on our trip.

Went downhill at the end

My sister and I took a painting class with Jeetu. It was nice and fun. He explained everything, the history of miniature art and his family's role. Of course there was encouragement to buy, but not high pressure. He gave us chai and we painted and chatted and the whole thing was going 5 stars... and then when the class was over and we were looking at paintings, considering a purchase, his older brother Naresh showed up. He was so drunk (it was noon) that he couldn't focus his eyes, was swaying, slurring his speech and having difficulty coordinating his hands to open envelopes to show us his art. He also put on high pressure to buy to "help us out" since the pandemic had been so difficult, etc. I was trying to figure out if it could be a medical problem and asked Jeetu if Naresh was still painting (yes) and if he was ok (raised eyebrows) and he explained his behavior by saying he's still grieving the death of their elderly father last summer. Once I realized he was drunk, I was 'done' and disengaged. Jeetu made apologetic sympathetic expressions, but didn't intervene. Perhaps there is a cultural prohibition about confronting your older brother, but this was nuts and bad for business. Naresh was so inappropriate and made us so uncomfortable that we couldn't leave soon enough and ended up waiting outside for our tuk-tuk.

10/10 Recommended for families and artists

It was such an amazing class, we got to learn about the different techniques and ways in which the artists paint miniature artworks. We got to see the stone colours and use the different brushes and paints to make our own artworks. The class lasted 2 hours or so and it was so calming and meditative. The artists were very communicative and thoughtful. It was an stunning experience.

In a quieter area away from all the touristy haggling shopkeepers, two brothers who enjoy art and want to create a business based on honesty and authenticity. The art class was fun, so cool to use crushed gem powder as paint :) i recommend. Beautiful art to buy too, I was planning to buy the next day but unfortunately I got super sick.

Great class and local experience

Me and my partner were visiting from California and are interested in learning and arts so we decided to give this a try. The reviews had suggested that the class is good but they can be pushy about buying stuff. We got some of those hints during the class but did not feel the pushiness and were overall very happy with the experience and suggest it to others. The shop is run by two brothers and the younger one in particular is a great arts teacher and very nice, he didn’t push us for buying at all. The elder brother shared a story with us of their founding and how they are cutting the middleman, and that was useful. He refrained from selling further and we appreciated that. The class overall was wonderful, we got lots of tips, hands on stone color experience, and finished our own painting! Really loved that!

Udiapur art city, do not miss the ORIGINAL miniature painting lesson and paintings

Today me and my husband attended, the painting class instructed by Yeetu. If you want to dive into Udiapur's most unique miniatur painting technique, this is the way to explore by yourself. Yeetu and his brother are very dedicated and passionated artists, based into a traditional 26 member artist family since many generations. Yeetu explained each single step slowly and with a lot of patience, so that you can follow easily. We have painted a peacock and were really suprised about the beautiful results. The paintings are made with original mineral/ stone colours and original brushes. Do not expect a touristic place, infact Yeetu and his brother try very hard to get rid of business man and middleman getting high commissions when bringing tourists into the shop. So you may contact the brothers directly, in any case by the contact form available on the website. They will promptl react to get in touch with you. Yeetu has answered all our questions in regards to materials, techniques, history etc. They may also explain you the differences in regards to paintings with poor quality often sold to tourists. We could easily reach the studio by walking, it is about 2km, 30 minutes distance from the city palace or you may take a Tuktuk to Ambrai Ghat. The studio is located in a quiet place without noisy traffic, where you can concentrate very well and really enjoy the painting. Yeetu and his brother are very warm hearted people so this is the chance to get more experience about Indian culture, art, family and social life. They will love to also show you their art collection, paintings made by them, and their father. You may find some brilliant copy work of the old paintings of the City Palace and other different styles of paintings. We took the chance to buy mineral colours and brushesas well. For us it was really a great experience. We are very happy to have met Yeetu. If you love art and Indian culture don't miss this place and go there!

I had the absolute best travel experience at this art class. If you're someone who genuinely wants to do something other than sight-seeing, this is highly recommended. It's a great place to learn more about Udaipur, art culture and interact with the family who teaches this art. Worth the price for sure.

Great art shop right by the ghat

Naresh and Jeetu are two lovely brothers who are talented artists. They showed us how they master their art : they paint with a brush of one hair !!! Thank you for your time and the great gifts.

Highly recommended miniature painting experience

At Pacific Art in Udaipur, we had a delightful Miniature painting lesson with Jutendar. The lesson did not only focus on the painting itself but the brothers explained the history of their family, materials being used and told us about the ways they make their paintings so unique. Through every word we felt their true passion and admiration of this artform. Their authentic approach contrasted with galleries focused on commercial gains. Jutendar’s calming teaching style made even beginners - like us - comfortable, and his commitment to authenticity extended to educating us about materials. His and Naresh’s non-aggressive sales approach allowed us to appreciate the art without pressure. Our time at Pacific Art went beyond art—it became a heartfelt experience. Jutendar felt more like a kindred spirit than an instructor who was not concerned that our class lasted longer than 4 hours instead of 1,5 as planned. As a result of this class, I will try to practice making such miniature paintings at home - thank you again for the amazing experience! I wholeheartedly recommend Pacific Art to everyone visiting Udaipur, appreciating artisans like Jutendar and Naresh for their genuine dedication.

Wonderful Experience!!!

We came to visit Udaipur inspired by the beautiful palace paintings. To learn more about the art our family signed up for the highly rated miniature painting class and it exceeded our expectations! The class started with an informative lesson by Naresh on the special paints and brushes used for miniature paintings. Then we made our own paintings under the detailed instruction of a Jeetu. Jeetu was a very patient and helpful instructor who worked well with our varying skill levels and ages. We appreciated the low pressure to purchase pieces of art, but did end up with some beautiful art for our home. Overall had a great time at Pacific Art. Would highly recommend.

Hidden gem - painting experience in Udaipur

The paining class was amazing. Away from the touristy area, in this class you have the possibility to have a 1-1 experience with the teachers who are generational expertise in the miniature painting. You have the time to ask all the questions you have about painting but also general ones about the culture. It was an incredibile activity that I would recommend to annone going to Udaipur.

A must do activity in Udaipur!

Total value for money! My wife and I took a 2 hr miniature painting class at Pacific Art and absolutly loved the experience. You get practice the basic techniques which buuld upto a final art piece you get to take home. You also get to listen to the history behind this amazing art form while practicing. They also have the best collection of miniature art works in Udaipur. They make an amazing gift to take back home.

Great class but hard-sellers

As a travel advisor, I’m always looking for the best experiences to share with my clients. I was approached by Naresh while watching the sunset and was interested in taking the class. I took a friend and we enjoyed learning about the natural paints and how much skill is involved in this type of painting from Naresh’s brother, Jitu. It’s definitely the kind of class you want to take while traveling in India. The skills of the artists are apparent and it was very fun. What I didn’t like is how pushy Naresh was about taking the class, buying additional art, making reviews, and generally his attempt to extract additional money from you. I understand that artists need to make money, but I believe that the art should speak for itself and shouldn’t need sob stories, putting down other talented artists, and forceful convincing in order to buy. People are more reluctant to buy when it’s being pushed down their throat. At the end of the class, Naresh tried to tell me we would need to pay more because our class took longer than usual (2.5 hrs instead of 1.5 hrs) but I can’t see how that would have been our wrong-doing, so I’m glad he didn’t actually charge us for the extra time. When we didn’t want to buy additional art, you could see how visibly annoyed Naresh was. He didn’t give up easily. So while I did enjoy the class itself very much and would casually recommend people to go, I’m not sure yet this is the establishment I would professionally recommend to my clients as I would never want to put them in an uncomfortable position. TLDR; take the class, buy the art if you love it (you might!), but be sure to get the cost of the class upfront (or book online) and prepare for the hard-sell.

A great introduction to the traditional style of Udaipur miniature painting

Had a fantastic time learning the techniques for miniature painting using the traditional paints and techniques. The class was run by two brothers who were very friendly and welcoming. It was our first time learning how to paint in this way but the brothers were very patient and great teachers. Would definitely recommend this experience

Beware the very hard sell

The art class was just me and the teacher. I found the techniques interesting and enjoyed the experience of learning how to paint miniatures. Unfortunately the art teacher's father had died one month before and throughout the class I had 90 minutes of the sadness of the family, how he had to support his mother and family, how they had to support 26 other artists, how difficult life was after Covid, how they couldnt afford rents etc. (they could afford pretty chunky god jewellery). I did feel sorry for him (though you do get a lot of these kind of stories as part of the sales pitch in tourist India), I have also recently lost my father and found it all rather triggering. The sympathy didnt seem to work both ways! It was a pretty depressing hour an a half. Once the class had finished the fun began. The older brother joined us. He shut the door of the shop so I was alone with these 2 men. The older brother then started the hard sell. The paintings they were selling were expensive (£250-600+). I explained I was also an artist and didnt have that kind of money but they went on and on and on, reducing me to tears. Even at that point the older brother continued pressuring me - while saying they didnt pressure their customers! I was extremely intimidated and felt it was an abusive sales technique. They were subtle and controlling - get me into a state of feeling sorry for them, closing the door so I felt isolated, then building up the pressure relentlessly. I eventually paid £40 for a painting I didnt really want, just to get away - and even at that point the older brother started packing up one of the more expensive pictures as well. Luckily my husband came to find me as I had been an hour longer than we had planned, and he put a stop to it. I'm not usually susceptible to this kind of pressure, maybe I was more vulnerable as I had also lost a parent, but I found the whole experience extremely upsetting and abusive, and it completely ruined the art class, which in itself was interesting.

Learnt a new skill on a holiday!

Mr. Jeetu And Mr. Naresh’s paintings have blown my mind. Mr Jeetu conducted a 2 hour class teaching us miniature painting techniques. He gave us good pointers to remember while we were practicing including how to take more paint into the brush the right way. They have a beautiful collection of paintings. It would be wonderful if you can buy from them to support them if you can. We had a pleasant experience with them.

Painting with the masters...

Geethu is a great teacher and I really appreciated the time and effort he spent teaching us different techniques. I also have a great appreciation for the amount of time and effort it takes to create a miniature painting. Geethu and his brother come from a long line of master miniature painters. We were also given a brief lesson on the precious and semi precious stones they use for painting. They do have squirrel brushes and powdered paint packets for those of you who are ready to take on this artistry.

Miniature painting workshop

A place to learn about the miniature paintings, brushes, paints directly by artists who have spent a lifetime in learning the art. We spent 3 hours under the guidance of an artist and made a piece as our souvenir. Reach out to them directly, they are very responsive and there are no middle men. Must go for an unique experience to bring back from udaipur

A workshop you cannot miss when in Udaipur

This was an amazing experience in local area of Udaipur. This art is something one should preserve which Jitu Bhaiya and the other artists are doing really well.

A lovely, detailed experience in understanding a complex and traditional art form.

We spent almost 3 hours at this family run establishment. The brothers shared a lot of knowledge about this traditional art form and coached us through creating our own modest artwork. We left with a much better understanding and respect for the skills of these artists that have been passed down numerous generations. I highly recommend this experience.

An Art Paradise in the middle of Udaipur

This was a lovely find in Udaipur's old city downtown. It was in the bazaar close to the Leela Palace's back gate. Jitu was a lovely host. We were there initially to purchase some Artwork but we ended up receiving an impromptu art class, where Jitu taught us the process by which these beautiful pieces of art are created. It was really fun and informative! Jitu is incredibly knowledgeable and hails from a long line of local artists. His father, brother and uncle are all involved in the same art field and their artwork are up for sale in the shop. Highly recommended visit! Warning: Go alone and do not go with the local touts. They will ask for a commission from the vendors and ultimately you will be getting a bad deal because the prices have to be inflated to accommodate for these commissions. Often time, they will just follow you to the shop even though you were heading there independently and inform the proprietor that they had brought you there.

Wonderful art class

We really enjoyed our experience with Jeetu at Pacific Art, we did an art class and learned all about the tradition and techniques of miniature painting. Jeetu is a great teacher and also really good to chat to about India and life. We also bought a set of paints and some art pieces from the shop, which are lovely- and we can now appreciate the skill it takes to create one, having tried it ourselves! Jeetu was also kind enough to invite us to share lunch with him, he was very kind and genuine. Would wholeheartedly recommend to other travellers.

Lovely experience

My time with Naresh and Jeetu at pacific Art was the highlight of my time in Udaipur :) Jeetu was very patient during the lesson and worked closely to help me learn the skills. It was mesmerising watching him demonstrate. I will treasure my hand painted peacock forever. Naresh and Jeetu told me all about their family business. Each generation has taught the next. They kindly showed me their collection and work by elder master artists, including a huge and endlessly detailed painting which was hidden away in another building. I understand that business can be hard because Udaipur market is dominated by businessmen who pose as artists! So I feel pleased to have met true artists :) As a solo female I felt at ease with these two gentlemen. We ended up having an amusing day together as they helped me plan other aspects of my trip, introduced me to other locals, and even shared their home made tiffintin lunch with me which was very kind. Thank you to Naresh and Jeetu for a lovely memorable day. I highly recommend meeting these two and learning the art of miniature painting :)

Soulful Experince

Learning an art form from traditional artisans is always enriching and fulfilling. In this experience here at Pacific art Udaipur conducted by Mr Jithu (Jithendra)and his elder brother Mr Naresh both belongs to fourth generation of age old royal tradition of Miniature art ,gives you in-depth sight into the art form in its olden glory and its present status with them and fellow artists. Workshop was very hands on with all the details. Ended up buying treasure in loads . Finding the place bit difficult though as its in behind Pichola lake, Ambrai ghat. if you are able to reach Amet Haveli Heritage hotel from there its just a walking distance to the shop. Must visit place if you are art believer and worshipper. Had privileges of sharing delicious home food with entire three course meal with the as I popped in during lunch hour. Naresh bhai helped us for a nice quick lake boat ride as well during our visit.

The BEST experience in Udaipur!!

I had the best day ever! I am a solo female in udaipur and felt very well looked after all day. I ended up spending 5 hours with these guys. They talked me through everything about the artwork, being an artist in udaipur and the full process of the paints and how they work. They went though all the techniques and the process of the art. This place showcases and supports 26 local artists who specialise in this incredible, detailed art style that I have never seen before. They brought me lots of delicious chai and recommended a great place for me to eat after. I wanted to buy the paint kit and some paintings but didn’t have enough cash so they went out of their way to take me to an ATM that works. I bought the paint kit and 2 amazing paintings. Today has truly been a big highlight of my trip to India!! Thank youuuu

Great art lesson

We really enjoyed our painting class! Our teacher guided us step by step to paint a peacock using the miniature painting technique. We could take as long as we needed and it was a relaxing experience with a nice chat at times as well. They told us all about the traditional technique and the paints and brushes. They also served us very nice chai and gave us water included in the price. There is also the opportunity to buy some of their work at the end. Would really recommend doing this while in Udaipur!

The Art Meditation you've been looking for

I am a Visual Arts teacher and practicing illustrator, working in India since 2020. As I arrived in Udaipur, I was looking for something more authentic, especially after the visit to the City Palace museum in Jaipur. In short, these hours spent with artists Jeetu-ji and Naresh-ji — hands down the best day I have spent in India. From the generous and caring attitude of Naresh-ji to the the professionalism and soft patience of Jeetu-ji, this masterclass is everything you hope it to be. Hidden away from the busy over-priced shops, yet still located in a beautiful corner of the city centre with a view of the mosque, the workshop is a classical 'family artel' where, it seems, art flows naturally and is conquerable even to those who have never practiced any kind of art-making before. Above all, this is a mediation, which is offered by the teachers in a light but appreciative way, which makes this the ultimate experience for anyone seeking the 'real India' experience. A small addition, which I find important — nobody will force you into buying anything; something especially valuable and rare in this region. Spoiler alert: you'll still end up investing into Pacific Art and carrying a treasure home — they are that good. Thank you!

True artists

I am an artist and an art teacher - living in India. I can attest that the two brothers who run this artists cooperative are the real deal. Their family has been creating miniatures in the traditional methods for generations. Do come to this shop to try the miniature techniques and create an original artwork. They also offer beautiful high quality miniature paintings for a very reasonable price.

Pacific Art is Incredible! Make sure you go when in Udaipur

We spent a marvellous day with Jitendra and Naresh, the brothers/artists who run Pacific Art! The miniature painting class, along with the informative introduction on the history and process of making these works was so incredible, and was the highlight of our trip through Rajasthan. As artists with a long legacy from their family, Jit-u and Naresh provided insights we would never have gotten at a store or market solely focused on selling miniatures. The atmosphere, shop, gracious instruction, patient support and informed/expert knowledge on the arts in Rajasthan made this really special. If you are thinking of taking this class (and you should, even it you don't have alot of artistic talent- Jitu is a tremendous coach/support - don't hesitate you will have a brilliant time!
