This was the most amazing experience. Dewa and his family were gracious hosts. Dewa is such a wise person sharing his customs, history and traditions with us in a way that was easy to understand and relate to. Something everyone that comes to Ibud MUST experience.

What an experience!! My sister and I did this cooking class and it was such an amazing experience. Dewa picked us up from where we were staying and first we got a tour around his village. He told us about the history and how the village worked. Then he invited us into his home where we cooked. The food was delicious! I would 100% recommend to book this, you will not only cook but you will be taken into the lives of the locals.

A local treasure

I have taken many cooking classes in my life, but this one was extra special. Dewa was a blessing. He is kind and so happy to share his culture. His home is lovely and everything was clean. We cooked a six course meal and it was delicious. Dewa gave me a very special notebook into which I wrote the recipes as we cooked. It is a treasured keepsake. If you want an incredible, authentic Balinese experience, this is it!

Outstanding Experience

I can hardly put into words how incredible this experience was. Dewa began by guiding us through his village describing the ins & outs of their culture- the food, the agriculture, the history, the spiritualism. Their perspective on life is incredible & something we will hold for the rest of our lives. Then, he welcomed us into his beautiful home where we met his gracious family, learned about the ingredients, & cooked the most wonderful meal. Not only did they gift us with delicious & healthy food, they also provided a beautiful book of recipes to take home. Truly remarkable people. This was so much more than a cooking class, it was an experience we’ll cherish forever. Thank you, Dewa.

Putu was an incredible host and cook!!

We absolutely loved our evening with Putu. She taught us how to make the most amazing Balinese meals. She gave us a tour of her home and her farm which was very informative. Thank you to her and her husband and her auntie for making our evening fun and delicious.

MUST DO when in Bali - most traditional Bali cooking experience

We received a warm welcome by the whole family and had a really good time learning a lot of facts about Balinese cuisine, harvesting, spices and Balinese living. We were given a little tour around the property and the garden in the beginning. After that we got a welcome drink and tried local fruits. We then prepared and freshly cooked six extraordinarily nice meals, which we finally ate on the home‘s terrace. Everybody made a great effort to make us a good time. We even received all recipes and pictures of the evening as a nice memory of the experience. All in all: Highly recommended!

Trustworthy driver Norman

Norman, the owner of BagasTour, was my driver for 3 days during my December 2023 stay in Bali. He speaks very good English, drives an air conditioned vehicle and is very knowledgeable about the area and various temples and destinations. Several times, he suggested waterfalls and other sites that really enhanced the days of sightseeing. He is an Ubud native, and on the day we first met, he very kindly assigned his dad to return me to my hotel on the spot, since I did not know how to get there. Cooking lesson and trip around rural Bali

Collected from hotel by host, driven to local area north of Ubud. Shown the local area, explained how food is grown/collected. Taken to local Balinese homestead to find out about family life and then prepared a 5 course meal before eating. Was a great experience, the host was super friendly and welcoming with a great outlook on life. Would have liked to spend more time with him. Highly recommend!

Over charged

Dont go through these guys as you will be ripped off almost 3 x the price as others.Expect to pay around $50-$55 AUD for this not $120-130 like these guys charge. The tour itself is fantastic and its a shame they dont receive all of these funds.

Don't use Travelling Spoon- very expensive!!

Do not book with Travelling Spoon. You will twice as much for this tour!! Find another tour operator!!! I paid $126AUD while other people on same tour paid $56AUD for same experience. Very unhappy Tour itself was great

Fabulous evening!

This cooking class was absolutely wonderful one of the highlights of our whole trip to Bali! Seeing the local village and how people live was great, the food was amazing and the whole experience was great fun. Would really highly recommend!

This was a really enjoyable cooking class, with that little bit more. From the moment Dewa picked us up, he introduced us to the Balinese way of life. A quick car trip from our accomodation and soon we are walking through Dewa’s village, crossing rice paddies, and touring the entrepreneurial village recycling centre. A stop at the vegetable garden to harvest our lunch and onto his home to prepare and cook lunch with Dewa and his delightful family. A true insight into Bali life, culture and religion. One of our best and memorable experiences in Bali.

A MUST DO in Bali

This was hands down one of the best things we did on our Honeymoon, and one of the best cooking class we have ever done. This is so much more than a cooking class, we spent the whole day with Dewa and his family learning all about his life, his village, and life in Bali. Dewa is so incredibly kind, and knowledgable you will love spending time with him. The food we made was delicious, and healthy, and Dewa gave us a handmade journal for us to write the recipes down in. We got a full look at Dewa's village, and got to see exactly where all of our food was coming from. We loved this and cannot recommend it enough. Thank you so much Dewa for all your kindness, we loved spending time with you and your family!

Cooking Culture Bali Balance

Dewa was a wonderful host and was able to impart his love of his country, his deep understanding of Bali’s history, culture and a little of his calm accepting personality and values. Exceptional food & culture experience

Do not hesitate to book this “cooking class.” Yes you will make several incredibly tasty and surprisingly simple Balinese recipes. But the experience is so much more than food based. Dewa is a kind and intelligent man who also teaches you about history, his village, their spiritual beliefs (not religion) and family home life. It is totally fascinating and presented in a generous and open manner. Dewa graciously answers all questions and allows you to photograph his absolutely beautiful home with its temple, plant life, koi and living areas. Spending time in their village home is a highlight of this amazing experience. The food we created under their guidance was delicious and we were given a notebook where Dewa told us all the ingredients and methods so we can try to duplicate these dishes at home. Absolutely book this. It was one of the very best experiences we have had while traveling and that is saying a lot.

Stunning, fascinating cooking experience

This was an absolutely stunning experience. Visiting Petu's family home and seeing her garden and rice fields, then cooking a 5 course meal, absolutely made my holiday. I've been to Ubud 3 times and this was the least touristy thing I have experienced. I was even shown around the family temple. Petu provided great cooking instructions and guided me through every dish. Her niece helped do prep and cleaning etc so everything was very organised and we made excellent time. I can't recommend this enough. The food was so good and recipes are provided via whatsapp at the end of the experience. There is so much food. Make sure you go hungry! And you will be given take away leftovers if you're keen.

An authentic cultural experience more than cooking

It's my second time enjoying Dewa's hospitality, so thankful for him to share his village, home and philosophy with us. The cooking was wonderful but the whole experience includs a little visit to their rice fields, short track down his village, a little explanation of their religions, history and philosophy. Superlative! Highly recommend this private class

Dewa the host was so knowledgeable and informative on the different herbs used, their medicinal as well as aromatic properties and shared knowledge of Buddhism Hinduism and animism and their influences. It was wonderful being in the village setting and learn about farming practices/cultural too. The class was so well organized and the food delicious. Plus I got to take away a little recipe book. Excellent and highlight.of trip.

Authentic Balinese experience

I went to see Putu and her family today in Ubud with a friend. I just have to say what an amazing experience it was and cannot recommend it enough. We were picked up and dropped off by Putus husband Pasta, and when we arrived we were shown around the property and then got to cook some amazing authentic Balinese food. Putu was very friendly and accommodating and professional. The food was amazing. If you're looking for a genuine Balinese experience then I cannot recommend this enough.

Highlight of our trip!

Best way to end our time in Bali. We learned so much about Balinese culture, the unique ingredients used on the island and the delicious food enjoyed by the locals. I would highly recommend this class if you love good food and learning about the local culture.

Balinese Cooking Class

Putu and her family were incredibly welcoming and it was a privilege to be shown around her family home, her beautiful garden with home-grown vegetables and spices. Myself and my husband learnt how to cook Balinese dishes in a traditional outdoor kitchen with Putu talking us through the ingredients and methods with such enthusiasm and fun. We truly enjoyed our experience and would recommend it to anyone wanting an authentic cooking class experience in Ubud.

A fantastic experience with Daiwa. He walked us through his beautiful village, and his personal vegetable garden where he picked the ingredients for our cooking course. we then proceeded to his family compound where he conducted a very entertaining cooking class using local ingredients. after we had completed the cooking we all sat down to a delicious lunch. couldn't recommend this more highly, a great experience.

A brilliant day from start to finish !

From beginning to end this was an incredible day. We were picked up by our guide Dewa from our agreed spot. Dewa was punctual and helpful. It was raining heavily so he informed us that the garden tour wouldn’t be possible in such heavy rain ( we also have our 87 year old grandfather/ father traveling with us ), but he says he would guide us while driving. Well, this was the most informative, respectful, culturally knowledgeable and deeply spiritual history lesson we’ve ever had. Our family has been to Bali many times but we learnt so much on the ride to Dewa’s home. It was so enriching and enlightening. Once we arrived at Dewa’s home we were shown around and had the cultural significance of his home explained, once again fascinating. Then it was time for the cooking!! We were all assigned jobs to do for our lunch, chopping, smelling ingredients, squeezing greens for our salad and more. To say this lunch was tasty is an understatement. The lunch was DEVINE!! We were all so happy and felt so privileged to have spent the day with Dewa and the cooking class. Highly highly recommend ☺️

Amazing Experience

This was a specacular experience! My wife and I had such a blast and learned so much from this class. Our guide was so knowledgeable of Balinese cooking and loved to pass on his skills to us. We had done a lot across Bali, and this experience proved to be our favorite. This was an experience that allowed for us to experience Balinese culture and was not touristy like a lot of the previous activities we had done. Would highly recommend!!

Incredible authentic Balinese experience

On our honeymoon and our first day in Ubud and this experience blew us away. We were welcomed with open arms into their beautiful home (in a village just outside of Ubud center) and were given a tour of their family temple and through their active and fruitful garden. The cooking class was so much fun and so informative - we learned about where they pick the produce and the wide range of fruits and vegetables they grow. The meals were all delicious and could be customized as needed (ie spice level). They even taught us Balinese phrases to enrich the experience. Could not recommend this experience more. Such a wonderful family and to open their home to us really made us feel like one of the family.

Food is Culture, and you will get plenty of both on this intimate activity

Absolutely incredible experience. The highlight of our entire trip to Bali. Dewa was a brilliant host with so much knowledge of Bali, the culture of the people and how food is closely tied with the culture. The man should host Ted Talks on Bali he is that informative. Even before we made it to the kitchen we had learned so much. But then there was the cooking and the food. So delicious and nutritious. Everything (except for salt) grown directly in their garden. Best meal you will have in Bali and an experience you'll never ever forget. 5/5 stars

Wonderful experience! Delicious food!!

This was such a wonderful experience!! Putu did an amazing job explaining things and keeping things moving just in time with all of our food. She truly has it down to a science! And the food we prepped and cooked was AMAZING!!!

Highlight of our trip to Bali

We loved this experience! Listening to our host describe their village and community way of life was humbling and inspiring and being shown all the food growing around the village was wonderful. The food we cooked delicious and couldn't have been fresher. Will definitely recommend this tour to anyone we know visiting Ubud.

Amazing experience

The cooking class was amazing. We (my wife and me) were picked up in our hotel from Ubud and Putus' husband drove us togheter with Putu to their traditional home. Putu explained the traditional housing on Bali and the meaning of their family temple, speaking really good English. After that she guided us through her garden, where she gave some information about the food growing there. Both, the information about the housing and the garden were quite right, not too long and not too short (we could ask her anything which was unmentioned).After that we started the cooking, she explained a lot on balinese cuisine and the tradition of the meals. During cooking, her sister-in-law and her niece assisted us. The whole experience was so amazing, we had so much fun while cooking and chatting, and we prepared 5 delicious meals. I can highly recommend going there. Thank you so much.

Loved it didn't think I would like it, but I was the best thing I did in Bali. Walked around the village, Dewa told us so much. Dewa was so informative learnt so much in local cooking A must do in Bali 10/5 stars 🌟

An Amazing Experience

Our host, Dema, was a walking history book. We explored the community garden while he picked the herbs and vegetables for our lunch. We walked (wear comfortable shoes) along the streets of his village while he provided an amazing historical lesson. Once we reached his house, we were greeted by other community members. Dema explained the recipes (I wrote while my cousin chopped). You get to keep the book with the recipes in them. Overall, 10/10. Very good experience!!

Cooking class in a Traditional Balinese home

Our driver picked us up and took us to his home. It was a traditional Balinese house in the beautiful countryside. All the ingredients we used were from his huge garden where he grew absolutely everything from lemongrass to bananas. His family were very friendly and showed us around their home set in a very rural tranquil setting. The food we cooked was amazing and we wrote down all the recipes to make the dishes again at home. It was a truly amazing experience to see Bali at its most authentic location. I would highly recommend this cooking class I can’t praise it enough.

Best cooking class ever

This was our highlight of our 2 weeks in Bali. An educational and interesting time and the most delicious dinner. Dewa is the kindest most caring generous person. He wanted to ensure we had a special time which we did. I highly recommend this tour. Was 10/10.

Great way to learn about Balinese culture

The host was very kind and informative, he told us plenty of very interesting things about Balinese culture and especially about his village (about 200 families, living there since many generations). The dishes we cooked were very tasty.

Humbling

This was one of the most humbling and rewarding experiences we had. I would say it was less about making the food and more about the actual village tour but it was really something. Our host was so kind and heartwarming and super welcoming. This was truly one of the highlights of our two week trip. Definitely a must do if you’re visiting.
