Exceptional & Excellent

What a fantastic tour. Jin was very knowledgeable, very much fun and open to all questions. If you ever have a spare hour in Tokyo this has got to be on your "to-do" list. Could not fault this tour in anyway. 11/10 ifpossuble.....

Great for adults.

Unfortunate parts. Came with my family of 5 assuming we would all be able to do the cutting with the Katana. Was informed after we started that my teenagers (15 & 16) could not participate in the cutting part. Did experience everything else though. Sensei spoke fluent English. Museum guide was a little hard to understand but his English is much better than my Japanese so no complaints. Would’ve picked a different experience if I knew about the age limitation. If they could have participated, then 5 stars.

Loved the cutting. Now I want to buy a real katana and practice more

Museum is situated in small building and parted to 4 floors. On the first floor you can make photo in samurai armor with a nice background image. There is also some history presentation. On the 2 floor you can see more of the history with a guide explaining everything. On 3 floor you can experience ninja shuriken throwing with some background story about ninjas and their equipment. And if you paid extra you can go to 4 floor where you get to cut tatami with authentic katana. My experience with cutting was very good. Feeling of the real sword has something overwhelming to it. Thanks to the sensei Ryo I managed to cut the tatami in one swing. I was surprised that I didn't feel any resistance in the cut and I really enjoyed it. It gives you an interesting feel of power and responsibility when you hold weapon like katana.

Fun experience

The tour with Jin was so informative and a lot of fun. I fully recommend this interactive tour, especially with tour guide Jin who makes the experience that much more enjoyable :)

Chi was very helpful and efficient end, as was sense yutaro doing sword cutting. Throwing stars and cutting was safe and fun.

Overpriced and not as advertised

There was no tour of the history museum (which is extremely small) as advertised. We were curious to find out about the Samurai history but were told nothing. The photos in Samurai costumes were a bit silly and not taken professionally due to the nature of the background and quality of the costumes. The actual sword cutting was a good and interesting experience. However, a lot of waiting around for the rest of the group to have individual turns and the group was too big.

Awesome teacher

The instructor was energetic and funny and a great teacher! I had a lot of fun cutting the bamboo! And we got cool pictures out of it

Great experience! Shinya did an amazing job teaching us about the samurai experience and how to properly swing the katana. Would recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto for the first time and wants a complimentary experience to the samurai museum

The tour was pretty basic, which one can read from Wikipedia also. Who were the Samurai, what was their influence in the Japanese society etc. were not told.

It was a great experience, we wore the formal clothing and were instructed on the proper way to cut using a 200 year old katana. Highly recommend for friends, couples, solo or family.

Following instructor pays off.

The outfits are awesome, puts you in the mood. The Samurai is very serious but also has an excellent sense of humor! The practice with the wooden samurai was very helpful. The real sword is very heavy but even so I managed to cut my target as he wished on the first try.👍😊 Not so my over zealous husband!🤣😂

My husband continues to talk about this experience! He absolutely loved being able to cut the mat, and act as if he were a real samurai! The location is way away from most other things would be the only downside.

I’ve always wanted to hold a Katana! I have always loved the culture and always wanted to learn how to swing a sword! This was amazing I was able to cut with the sword!

Excellent museum with really interesting pieces and friendly, knowledgable staff. I did the museum part and sword cutting experience which was handled completely professionally and safely. Very much enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend to anyone visiting the area if you're interested in samurai history.

Very excellent samurai cutting session. Ryo sensei was very patient in teaching us how to swing the sword correctly. After his tutelage, I manages to fully cut the tatami pole the firsrt try!

Samurai Sword Cutting Experience in Tokyo - Tameshigiri (Includes The Museum Ticket)

We had an amazing time at the Samurai Sword Cutting Experience in Tokyo - Tameshigiri (Includes The Museum Ticket). First we could try on Samurai armors. Then they told us all about the history of Samurais and Ninjas. The Ninja star throwing was great as well! But the best part was obviously the Sword Cutting. We got a great instruction (I felt really safe) and were able to actually cut through a rolled up tatami mat. What a thrill! Thank you very much for everything!

great learning experience

We weren’t sure initially, but we learned a lot about the history of the ninjas and the samurai. Dressing up and taking pictures was fun too. Overall would recommend it. I came with my nine year old son and he really enjoyed it.

History and fun…
