Crafting Your Own Unique Edo Kiriko glass Experience in Asakusa

Fun experience and you get a cool souvenir

I was the only foreigner and the guide made sure to explain everything to me in English. He let me experiment with different shapes and gave corrections on how to improve. There was a selection of glasses to choose from (some for an extra charge) and many designs to get ideas from. After finishing there is also a stand with lighting to take good photos of the glass. I really enjoyed it!

Lovely, relaxing experience!

We had a glass carving workshop in May and it was a lovely and very relaxing experience. It took a while to get the hang of it, but the end products ended up very nicely! You coukd choose the type of glass you wanted to have (coloured glasses were a bit more expensive) and you could choose which design you wanted for the patterns. The teacher was very patient and gave clear tips/suggestions to improve the carvings. I definitely recommend this workshop if you want a nice, relaxing experience in the middle of a big city ;)

Relaxing and enjoyable

We really enjoyed crafting our kiriko glasses. It was a nice experience of learning how the kiriko glasses end up with beautiful designs. Yumi our instructor was nice and helpful. Would love to do this again!

Unique and Fun Experience!

How often do you get to make your own etched glass? Itʻs not as easy as it looks, but we were given excellent instruction to practice the art of edo kiriko. The price of the class includes a small, basic glass--we chose to pay a little more for a larger glass. My sister and I were seated with a young couple from Japan and we enjoyed chatting with them as we learned the craft together. Our instructor was patient and explained everything clearly. We were all happy with our unique glasses and would highly recommend this experience!

If you like detailed work then this is perfect!

The teacher was super nice and understood English well so it wasn't hard to follow along. There are patterns she gives you to choose from and glasses as well. The clear ones are included but the colored ones are additional. She let's you practice on a test piece first and you need to press a bit harder than you think but otherwise it was quite beginner friendly :> Would absolutely do again and recommend to others 😆

Decent

The glass etching was a good activity but not brilliant. We attended at 1015 and were finished before 11. The hosts were lovely but I feel the language difference affected the experience. I would have liked a little more explanation, maybe a history of the art, how it came about, why they continue doing it by hand etc...

Unique experience. Great instructor. Very different from the normal tourist activities.

Definitely a unique experience. After some quick instructions and plenty of time to practice, you'll make your own carved glass using a small grinding wheel. Plenty of examples were provided. Because of the limitations of the grinding wheel, geometric designs are best, but I was able to create an aquarium scene and my wife was able to do fall folliage. (See the photos.) The class includes your choice of one of several different clear glasses, but we decided to upgrade to colored glass for about 1700 yen each. The instructor was very patient and knowlegeable and we each had our own workspace. The class an accomodate different age groups. A couple of elementary school girls in the class did beautiful work. However, I wouldn't recommend this for young children who can't focus on the task. There's a lot of breakables in the room and the glass and grinder could be dangerous if you don't concentrate and take your time. We will definitely do this again on our next visits.

The studio was clean and neat. The instructor spoke excellent English and was very patient with ask if our questions. The glasses were a lot of fun to make! Definitely would do this again here!

Great hands-on experience

Great hands-on experience to create your own custom glass design. Patient instructor with clear English helped us improve in a single session, with a personalized memento at the end.

This workshop was so fun. The instructor explained things well and gave us time to practice before we did our glasses. A unique experience. We love that we now have a one of a kind souvenir from Japan. I highly recommend this class.

Highly recommend! Coming home with great handmade souvenir that I made. Did as small group and was given maybe 15 minute practice of cutting glass and then given samples and picked what I wanted to etch onto glass. Supervised from start to finish.Overall, was pleased with our result!

Perfect into to the art of glass carving

Never worked with glass before and this workshop was so cool, u have the option of using your own design or choosing one from the examples. The instructor was so helpful and encouraging and even had a little photo area with the perfect lighting to photograph your finished glass.

So fun and worth the time to do! Get to create a great keepsake! My teens and I did this and would do it again if we visited Tokyo again! Teacher was great.

Awesome experience

Great experience. They accommodated us even though we were early. It was a nice cool experience. We did this on my husbands birthday which made it extra special for us.

True delight

Instructor spoke English eloquently. She was everything. Helped everyone in the class get an individual and customized experience. I learned the tactical style of cutting, made plenty of mistakes and got to take home my own etched glass and knowledge of a craft for a pretty cheap price. Im the furthest thing from an artist and had an incredible time. But i did leave with a bit of jealousy from all the beautiful creations by the other students. i compensated with a bunch of purchases from the store downstairs. Easy access in Asakusa

Professional

The instructor was very friendly, spoke in English and Japanese, and gave a lot of room for creativity with the designs. She explained and demonstrated very clearly, and allowed practice before guiding you to making your final product. Plain glasses were included in the price, but there were various other glass colors and designs that could be chosen from for an extra fee. I learned a lot and got to keep my really cool glass! Would definitely recommend.

Good

Hana teaches you methods of carving glass. She is solemn but patient and lets you practice before engraving your selected glass. Your ticket includes a basic glass and you have the option to chose higher quality glass for additional money. She never pressured us to pay additional. It was a chill experience that is good to fill an open day.

Must do activity for friends family and couples. Very interesting and fun, can't believe how much fun we had

Great memento and experience

The instructor was fluent in English and the location was very easy and close to the station exit. The workshop had a really nice atmosphere and you could enjoy a view of the Sumida river. The glass cutting is not scary at all, you can even touch the grind tip. It was very relaxing to do and it was great to pick my design and bring it to life. They have plenty of beautiful designs and they help you throughout the whole process.

Hands on glass cutting experience

Make sure you know where your going before you have to arrive. It was a bit difficult to find this hidden gem in Asakusa, but entirely well worth it! If you have an appreciation for working with your hands or more generally craftsmanship, and art, you will certainly enjoy this experience. The English was somewhat limited, but if you are able to arrive early you will have little to no issue. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was able to keep the piece that I cut at no additional charge (there were no hidden fees). Indeed, I did not anticipate the experience being as meticulous as it was, which was quite the pleasant surprise. If you have never cut with a diamond blade before you may want to research it prior to put your nerves at ease. This is a very unique and hands on experience that will provide you with a remarkable memento from Tokyo.
