Took our family and a friend from Fl USA. Had a great time. Lots to see so get there early.Easy parking and a nice walk with an incredible view.

One of the world’s top zoos. I have visited many all over the globe and I was amazed at the diversity!

Great day

It was a good experience! We went on a ferry on our way there and came back by bus. The zoo has a vast variety of animals and they are well taken care of as well as the installations. We had a great time.

This zoo was so built up as being the ultimate zoo in Sydney. OVER-RATED! The area that the zoo is located is nice enough overlooking Sydney harbor but the site is too small. The zoo is on a hillside so one is better off taking the bus from the city to enter the zoo at the top. Then walking down the hill and taking the ferry back to Sydney. Be aware that these ferries do not run on holidays. The enclosures are clean and the animals seem to be happy. But this zoo is crowded for both the animals and their visitors. This zoo is also very expensive! Does not come even close to San Diego Zoo. If I had known that this would be so mediocre, I would not have visited! This zoo also charges very high amounts with very necessary reservations to get close to Australia's famous native animals.

Disappointing

It's cheaper to buy the tickets online as it is cheaper. What I like? Two modes of travelling there either by land or ferry. I prefer the ferry as it passes by the iconic Sydney Opera house. It can be taken at circular Quay wharf 4. What I don't like? Travelling with two kids , one age 4 and the other 1 and half is challenging. There is a bus to the upper zoo, unfortunately it does not fetch kids with strollers. You need to fold them up else u need to talk about 8 minutes to the lower deck. The day I go, the lifts are spoilt hence carrying kids up or down the staircase is pretty challenging especially when you wanted to go from the food place to penguins area. The animals enclosure are pretty disappointing with one animal eg. 1 penguin, 1 tasmanian devil, 1 seal etc...some of the roads where you push the kids could end you up dead end, hence need to carry up the stairs. Not woth going in my opinion.

Fab day out

Loved the Zoo , made it in time for the bird talk and display . Seen and heard the gorilla thump this chest was impressive . Be prepared for so rest stops if you are 21 + gst as it is hard on the legs lol

Awesome

The zoo is huge. We spent 6 hours there. Weve never spent that much time @ a zoo. The animals were wonderful. I definetly would recommend a visit.

Australian animals were amazing to see

Enjoyed the zoo and seeing all the native Australian animals and learning about them. The view of downtown Sydney was breathtaking.

Taronga Zoo is beautiful.

The zoo is beautiful. It’s clean and has stunning views of Sydney’s CBD. My kids and I had a great time.

Amazing Zoo

So many animals, it was amazing. There were lots of different animals like safari animals, rainforest, and tigers (oh my!) The tigers are a must-see they have a fake Indonesian village and then you see the tigers, it was so cool. The food was bad at the cafeteria, and if you sit outside birds will attack. We saw them steal food. So just pack your lunches and sit inside. :) loved the zoo, only thing was that some animals were closed. And the seal show was AMAZING it was the best thing ever and so funny.

Good visit

Lovely little zoo. Clean and animals seem well cared for and looked after. Took about 2 hours 30 mins at a fair pace to get round and see everything. My only feedback would be please update your map - it made no sense whatsoever! Easy ferry ride over from Circular Quay and fair regular ferries, their times are detailed at the zoo.

Amazingly beautiful zoo!

I live in Scottsdale Arizona and as an artist, I visit zoos whenever we travel. Today we visited Sydney’s Tarango zoo. I usually have a love/hate relationship with zoos as I need to see the animals in order to draw them, but I want their enclosures to be very roomy. This zoo delivered both! Absolutely beautiful grounds and wonderful enclosures. I could see the animals well enough to draw most of them. The whole pride of lions were out sleeping though, but they all looked so healthy and beautiful! Nice place for a snack too. Thank you Sydney for a wonderful experience at your zoo.

Had a terrible experience your email said we had a tour guide to meet at Mossman no such person turned up me and my who has chronic airways disease had to walk back up to main entrance am bloody disgusted with you and recommend that I will never use your service again bloody ANGRY

Don't miss the Taronga Zoo! It's Beautiful!

We've watched the Taronga Zoo show for a couple of years. This was our first stop in Sydney and it did not disappoint. Beautiful zoo with incredible views. The animals have incredible habitat enclosures - especially the elephants and tigers. Lots of animal variety and some great animal experiences are available.

Would not recommend Taronga Park zoo

I was told by many people when I told people that I was visiting Sydney that the one stop you must go to is taronga Park zoo I was very disappointed in the Zoo. The animals looked very healthy and they delighted the children and everybody who looked at them. I thought the social show was very entertaining and informative and also the bird flying, but some places in cages you went to they were empty. No platypus, No lions. really not many animals. As I was waiting in the queue to go into a show, I heard people over talking about the same thing. The gorillas is like nobody could find the gorillas. We understand that they sleep and they go in the habitat, But we've looked in the habitat where they sleep and where they they go to pass each other into the other yards. There was nothing. No animals but suddenly at 3:pm they all appeared. It was if anything just a average zoo. Nothing to write home about. Nothing to tell people what a great experience I had there. I will be telling my overseas visitors not to go there. I would not recommend it. Disappointed. I told my host about my experience while staying in Sydney and he said the same thing. Yeah other people come back and said to me. J it's just a average zoo they spent millions and millions on it. What have they achieved?

A day at Taronga Zoo

Taronga Zoo was fantastic! Loved seeing native Australian animals up close, and the views of the harbor from the zoo were unbeatable.

Animals are happy here , running , playing fighting etc. together. Facilities are good such as toilet canteen , free fresh water.

Day at the zoo

What an awesome day. This is a must do with any trip to Sydney. It’s a short ferry ride from the city. You regret it , if you skip this .

The zoo has improved since my last visit and is highly recommended as a day out with children.

A really good experience in company of a 5 year old. I wrote adversely of my experience four years ago. This recent visit upgrades of many areas and better interaction and information made it a fun and informative day.

Extensive zoo in a interesting setting

It’s definitely one of better zoo’s I’ve seen. To get here we took a ferry from circular quay. It cost 6 dollars each for memory one way. They seemed to leave every 20-30 minutes. The zoo itself is quite extensive and featured animal sections from Australia and internationally. It covered most animals you would expect to see in a standard zoo. Its location on the harbour also afforded some spectacular views back towards Sydney. To see it all I would recommend doing this as a whole day activity. Drinks and food were available at various parts in the park. Animals seemed to all be treated very well and there was an emphasis on conservation efforts with a lot of them. A lot of the information boards seemed to be aimed more towards a paediatric audience. Would recommend.

If you have extra time on your visit - go for it, if pressed for time, give it a miss

A lovely zoo, with lots of hilly walks, but wheelchair/stroller safe. The diversity of animals was great, especially the birds and koalas. Where the attraction lacked was in interpretive signage, no time estimates to move through large sections of the park, and the special app was not helpful at all, the wifi kept kicking out and the detailed info on the app didn't follow where you were for additional info. If you have extra time on your visit - go for it, if pressed for time, give it a miss unless it's your only chance to see wildlife.

A Must-See in Sydney. DO IT.

Excellent zoo. GO EARLY. I think they open at 9:00AM. We took the boat from Circular Quay and were there in no time. I mean these animals have a million dollar view of the city! The exhibits are excellent and the grounds well maintained. We saw it all from Lions to Koalas to Lemurs. Skip the "encounters" with the animals. It's a money grab and nothing you can't do with a telephoto lens. We will go back. Perhaps I can get my lovely wife to have an encounter with a hungry lion :) Seriously, well worth the money.

Fantastic Zoo.

This review is written by my 8 year old son - “The Zoo is fantastic, 5 out of 5! The shop has lots of nice things, I love my keyring! There are a lot of places to run around and too many animals to count. My favourite is the tiger but I loved the Koalas too. Every corner has something new to look at” Pretty accurate from a parent’s point of view too. It’s a great family day out and one of the best zoos I have attended. The bird show was a surprise highlight- the girls know their stuff, obviously care very much for their birds and delivered the show with more than a little bit of style, it’s a must if you visit. The zoo is immaculately clean, the range of animals extensive and the environment is just a lovely place to spend a day, I can understand why it has been described as the best real estate in Sydney. The staff also went above and beyond looking after my father in law to source a wheelchair for him as when we arrived they had all been taken (if you need a chair arrive early)The views are outstanding. Downsides? Few and hardly worth mentioning - the cable car is no longer in operation, I look forward to revisiting when the new system is launched. The aquarium seemed to be closed and in need of renovation. Turning into the ramps in the car park is very tight for large cars so extra care is needed. Enjoy a lovely day!

Great zoo

Great zoo. Limited animals, only aone or a few of each to see like the lions. A lot of steep steps, hard walking.

Fun zoo!

I love a zoo, and this one did not disappoint! Great time! We spent 3.5 hours here. Restrooms readily available. Discount for those age 65 or older. Other discounts available too, so check. It would be a challenge at times for those in wheelchairs but they did pretty well to accommodate everyone. Should I find myself in Sydney again I will visit this zoo.

Nice zoo with good mix of native animals. Should plan a visit if you have young kids.. seal show is also pretty entertaining

Typical zoo but enjoyed the native animals

My wife and I flew into Sydney on a weekday, arriving in the morning. We had decided to drop our bags off and start exploring the city's sights. With our accommodations being about a 2 minute walk to Circular Quay, we decided to go to the Taronga Zoo. Once we located the correct ferry in Circular Quay to take to the zoo, we found we could swipe our credit cards to board (and when getting off) for the ~12 minute ride to the zoo. Upon arrival to the drop off pier, there are options: 1) Would have been a gondola ride to the top of the hill and the main entrance of the zoo - it was and will be closed for some time for repair/improvements 2) You can walk to the lower entrance, but this will have you walking uphill through the zoo - and then back down 3) Wait for a bus that will take you to the top of the hill to the main entrance - this was the option we chose - we had at least a 10 minute wait for a bus to show up. The bus is also a swipe on/swipe off, so not free. The zoo is stretched out over a large area, so there can be a lot of walking. From a zoo map, we saw that animals we could see in our own zoo went one direction and animals native to Australia went the other. With the sun/heat, maybe long flight, and trying to prevent walking down and back up, we decided to go the Australian direction and skip the other. The koala section was the highlight for us, but some animals, like the platypus, we didn't see (like any zoo - sometimes they're out, sometimes not.) Once through that part of the zoo, we were able to cut across to the main path which has circles painted on it which do help you in knowing where you are on the map. We progressed to the mid level gift shop seeing a few more animal displays and then decided to leave. On the way out (stair steps allowed us to shorten our way down) we saw a few more animals along the path. Once out, there is a short walk back to the ferry pier for the swipe on/swipe off ride back to Circular Quay. The layout/map of the zoo isn't bad, but to see it all would take some time. We spent about 1 ½ -2 hours for what we saw. Plan accordingly for heat, sun, and a lot of walking.

Experience was fun and enjoyable. Allow yourself a few hours at least to enjoy the zoo. Maybe an afternoon or a morning.

Koala bears were the best part. I would suggest to have more water refill stations. There was only two near the market and they were both closed. I am assuming the reason these were closed so you were forced to go buy water in the market. All in all the zoo was a good experience and interesting place to go to. Due to the heat, a lot of animals were not out and visible. Good the tiger, although he was in a enclosed cage.

Even that was raining, it was lovley to be visiting Taragona Zoo It was fun to see how well kept The amimals has it.

Wonderful Zoo

Excellent zoo. 3 hours is enough but maybe a tad rushed. Accessible via ferry from circular quay. There is a senior discount, you have to ask at the desk where you buy tickets in person. It’s $39 AUD. Plenty of spots to take good pictures. There’s even an area where you can see the kangaroos pretty up close. Highly recommend.

Great zoo with happy animals

Easy to get to the zoo just walk up the hill from the ferry to the entrance. Showed them my phone ticket and got in quickly. The animals look Happy and have nice enclosures and you can see them all pretty well. Love the koala and kangaroo section because they are not hidden by cages or fences. In fact, the kangaroos could go up to you if they wanted to. You could be about 5 feet away from the koala bear in a tree!

Perfect weekend activity!

Great weekend activity! Accessible via the ferry but I took the bus from QVB instead to avoid the ferry crowd. The zoo is huge; so much to do and see! There are also few spots to oversee the harbour.

Get a volunteer guide if you can!

We were very fortunate to be able to have a guided tour with Pat and Wendy during our visit. They are two of the volunteers who take people around to explain all the different things to watch for and what makes them so special. They were fabulous. The zoo has a wide range of different areas of the world that the animals are grouped into, but the area we wanted to see the most was the native Australian animals. They have a wonderful variety and easy to reach displays. Having the guides explain what to watch for and point out things that we would have missed completely made all a difference in the world. Without them, we would never have seen all the things we were lucky enough to spot. Thank you, ladies!

Excellent Zoo with Great Volunteers.

Excellent experience highlighted by great guidance from Volunteer Graham who made our visit truly special. Would highly recommend! Some of our favorites were the tree kangaroos, the silverback, gorilla, the koalas, and the cassowary! Was amazing and very well organized! We were there several hours and didnt get to see it all!

Sunny Sunday

My daughter and I have always loved coming to the zoo, for her 25th birthday her partner came with us. I felt like every thing was incredible, all the staff were amazing from the get go. My daughter did the Meerkat encounter and loved every minute. I was lucky enough to join in with the Dingo encounter, the gent who led the experience was next level, had so much knowledge. I will never forget this encounter. It was a Sunday, no excessive crowds and with a bit of foresight you can pack a lot in. Will definitely invest in a friends of the zoo annual pass.

US Visitors

Good time but the kangaroo experience was not available so sad that we missed them. The other exhibits we nice and the park was clean.

Amazing zoo

There’s no need to redeem any ticket. Just proceed to the main entrance and get your QR code to be scanned and you’re set to go! Zoo is big with amazing layouts and glad to know that the animals are well fed and taken care of. You can also multiple amazing views of the city centre across the harbour in diff angles.

Zoo under renovations, a lot of areas closed

The taronga zoo preserve in itself if nice and modern. The lounge is cozy and inviting and the rooms are very small but nice (although very expensive!). The reception staff was very friendly and professional. The view from the lounge (sunset) is fantastic. I loved the fact that we had 2 private tours (one at night with no one else)and the guides were amazing and very knowledgeable! The area of improvement would be at the lounge-bar… there’s absolutely no service. The barman was lazy and everyone had to go order at the bar (for food or drinks), to get the menu or for anything else…and it was not busy. Also, they only open at 2pm… which is not practical if you want to have lunch…you have to go to the zoo grab fast food. The lounge menu is also very limited. You only have 3 choices.. ! That’s a huge disappointment. As a luxury hotel, they should improve that… Also, the wifi didn’t work for most of my stay. The front desk told me they didn’t have a reliable internet provider. It’s not acceptable for a luxury hotel in a city like Sydney. They should look at changing provider! For elderly people: please note that the parking is very far. There’s parking in front of the hotel in the street but we can’t use it. Also, the air in the room was stifling (there’s no opening windows). I had to open my door for a good 2 hours to get the air circulating. I kept sneezing every time i entered the room. The beds were very comfortable but their air wasn’t. The zoo in itself is under massive renovations for a lot of areas closed. They should improve the signalisation… I saw a lot of people that were completely lost …. Not a good customer experience. Overall a nice place that needs to address a few issues.

Interesting

Interesting but very old Zoo (historic) built along a hillside. Flow wasn't very convenient to seeing everything without backtracking a few times. Some exhibits have been or are going to be updated but it's a construction zone now.

A must see

Loved how interactive the zoo is and how the animals are happy in their habitats! Loved the koala and seal talk and the kangaroos!

Best Zoo!

We LOVED our time at the Taronga Zoo and we are not big zoo people. I was so impressed with the quality of the exhibits. Make sure to attend the zookeeper talks for animals you're interested in - we planned our day around these talks. Also the tiger exhibit is extremely cool and immersive. The ferry ride there is also a great Sydney experience.

Fun day at the ZOO

We took the ferry over to the zoo. It took a total of 3 hours to complete our trip. Nice variety of animals. It was a hot day but plenty of shade to combat the heat.

Beautiful zoo, stunning surroundings.

We caught the ferry over to the zoo and had a lengthy wait for the bus (not free) to take us up to the main entrance of the zoo. If you’re feeling fit you can hoof it uphill to the lower zoo entry and navigate yourself up from there. It was an incredibly hot day & although a lot of the animals were sleeping/chilling there was lots to see. The keeper talks were brilliant & the animal enclosures were large & clean. There is a lot of walking involved and most of it uphill but the views of Sydney are well worth it. The bird show is a definite must see & it was wonderful to hear & see first hand how these beautiful birds are being encouraged to thrive at Taronga. We would visit again 🐨🦁🐯🦒🐒🦧

Wonderful Zoo, able to see animals very close up. Also the zoo seems to be interested in conservation and is very informative.

Wonderful animal experience!

Wonderfully laid out zoo! So great to see so many animals in open and spacious areas for viewing. Of course seeing koala's and kangaroo's was our highlight. It was great to see how respectful the guide and staff are with respect to the animal sensitivities. They deftly handled the tourists who felt they had a right to touch and hold animals that were legally protected. We have great respect for how the guides balanced the experience with care for the animals. Overall a wonderful experience and we recommend allowing a whole day for this visit!

Great day out.

Still a very special place to visit. The ferry ride is just the beginning. The cable car is not operational as it is being revamped. There are free shuttle buses to the main gate at the top of the hill. This means you can wander down all day ready to catch the ferry back to Circular Quay. Booking online was easy and cheap. Dont be scammed by some tour companies which I found to charge nearly double.
