Arenal Volcano Experience Full-Day Tour from San Jose

Highly recommended tour

The tour was packed full of things to see and different experience. You see a lot of the beautiful Costa Rican country side and it really makes you appreciate it. The drive of was phenomenal and make the experience very enjoyable.

Fantastic tour!

We had an excellent day tour with Fernando, who enthusiastically and professionally delivers his very informative tour. This small group tour was such a relaxed and enjoyable way to travel to the Arenal Volcano area, stopping along the way at waterfalls, at a restaurant for a snack and coffee with views of beautiful birds, at a coffee plantation, at a stop to view iguanas, along the road to see incredible sloths moving in the treetops, and for a very enjoyable lunch. Finally we went to Paradise Hot Springs for a lovely time in the hot springs. We customized our tour slightly by opting out of the dinner at the hot springs and by doing the trip one way, thereby not returning to San Jose. That allowed us to stay the volcano area for a few days and we didn't have the long drive back to San Jose. Renting a car and driving in Costa Rica can be very challenging so this was a lovely way to get around that.

Nice tour of the Arnel Volcano and the bird sanctuary.

We took a day trip to Arnel Volcano with a stopover at the waterfall, a stopover at the bird sanctuary, the Arnel volcano site and the spring spa.thebwaterfallbstop was good and we enjoyed the view. The bird sanctuary was amazing. We saw almost 10 different kinds of beautiful birds and we were able to get lots of nice pictures. The breakfast here was very nice. At the Arnel Volcano we had lunch which was also good. We got to enjoy ethnic lunch here. The Spring saw was enjoyable and the view from there was also nice. On the way back we stopped for another ethnic dinner. The tour company dropped us back to our Hotel. Overall it was a wonderful trip and experience.

Packed schedule but amazing experience! Fernando was the best driver and guide! We saw a lot of animals and had delicious luck and dinner!

Very nice lunch and dinner choices and plenty of stops along the way for shopping and bathroom breaks. Had enough time at the hot springs for cocktails!! Would recommend for anyone. They formed a great connection with the kids and took their time to point out all the rich history of Costa Rica. We’d strongly recommend the two of them if you want to truly enjoy your excursion, they were extremely trust worthy and ensured we always had everything we needed.

Pura Vida For Sure!

Absolutely two thumbs up!! The tour was amazing in large part because of our tour guide Kenneth. He went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of as this tour took over 14 hours from pick up to drop off. There were many opportunities to taken in the wildlife and taste the local cuisine. Kenneth was very knowledgeable about the culture, flora, and fauna of the area. He added special touches of laughter, fun, music, trivia, local insides, and more. He was extremely personable and checked on us continuously throughout making sure we were well informed and comfortable with all dietary needs and special requests considered. He went out of his way to make sure we saw toucans and sloths in their natural habitats. We pulled off on the side of the road a few times to take pictures and even saw a mother sloth and her baby. The tour includes stops at the waterfall (La Paz), a bird observation checkpoint where you can see hummingbirds and other tropical birds up close and personal, an iguana observation checkpoint, and other stops along the way to observe animals and scenery. The coffee plantation was beautiful, educational, and quaint. The tour only includes nearby views of the volcano but definitely awe inspiring and impressive nonetheless. The hot spring facility was nice. They provided towels, clean changing facilities and lockers, and several pool areas with varying pool temperatures nested in an outdoor vegetative oasis. Our driver Christian was a craftsman in maneuvering our van through the windy roads and rain, and around iguanas crossing. We felt safe the entire time. Definitely a tour worth your time. Pura vida!

An Amazing Day Tour to the Volcano, Coffee Plantation, and Waterfall

We had an absolutely fantastic time on today’s excursion! The program was incredibly well-organized, and we were thoroughly impressed with every aspect of the day. Along the way, we made several stops where we got to see a variety of wildlife, which added so much to the experience. The visit to the coffee plantation was both educational and fun, and the views around the waterfall were breathtaking. The food we enjoyed during the trip was delicious and perfectly complemented the day’s activities. To top it all off, the mineral hot springs were the ideal way to relax and end the day. Everything about this tour exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience!

Take a different tour!!!

They took us to a hotel that had hot pools (not streams). We had an absolutely terrible buffet lunch. We then headed back but stopped to take a picture of the volcano from a distance. Not at all what we expected. The driver and host were fine. Everything else was a waste of time and money.

A tour of Costa Rica!

Excellent tour! The tour guides Christian and Harley) were wonderful! They explained everything really well and we learned so much! Highly recommend this tour! Great trip too for people with mobility issues as most of the activities were accessible (no hikes, long trails, etc.)

Full vacation in one day!!!

This was a full vacation all in one day!! We saw so many sights, like the coffee plantation, which served delicious cappuccino, amazing sloths climbing through the trees, fresh and delicious fruits and food at two lovely open air restaurants, daring zip lining through the trees, relaxing hot spring pools, and a beautiful view of the Arenal volcano! But best of all were our outstanding tour guide, Kenneth, and driver, Randall!!! We learned so much about Costa Rica and had so many laughs! They navigated the challenging roads expertly!! I would highly recommend this tour!! You will have a very memorable experience!!

A fun packed day

This was a lot to take in in one day but the guide was fun and knowledgeable. Our favorite part was the hot springs. Food was great and well planned. Would recommend.

You will come away with functional and interesting knowledge about Costa Rica. Things to know: The guide cannot predict the weather, go with the flow. Participate and get to know your van mates. Amazing day with guide Fernando! He is so passionate about Costa Rica and we learned a lot. Enjoyed all the stops, especially the hot springs, and the meals and snacks were delicious. Appreciate his careful driving and great energy. This tour is excellent value.

Beautiful views!!

The hot springs were very relaxing. It was tough to see the volcano through the fog. Fernando was a great guide. He found sloths on the trip and made a stop so we could see them. The waterfall is cool. Food was ok, but not my favorite in Costa Rica.

Okay

It was an okay tour, the guide was nice but the main problem is that the guide does not keep you engaged specially on such a long ride, things like we are 10mins away from our next stop or giving us historical backgrounds or sharing intros of people onboard etc. We couldn’t view the Arenal Volcano due to severe fog. They did offer zip lining activity and hot water springs at a Hotel which we thought otherwise so sadly didn’t get to do it as we thought it would be outdoors which we don’t prefer. They need to clearly state where the Hot water springs would be at. They gave us a decent lunch and dinner.

The tour guide Steven was very nice and helpful. The van was a bit crowded.

Seeing the monkeys, iguanas, birds. Unfortunately we got a flat tire. The van could have been in better shape, no seatbelt. Coming back we hit a bit storm, foggy roads in the mountains. Was terrified.

Road trip to remember

This was the best day of our trip so far! It's a long day but every part of it was incredible. Our guides Harlem and Christen were amazing. Harlem was so knowledgeable and fun and patient .. they kept us on schedule so we could get everything we could out of the day. They spotted wildlife for us on the way too! We had great coffee and food throughout the day and saw beautiful views. The volcano view at the hot springs was especially stunning. I'm so grateful for this experience.

Day trip to remember

We had a great day going from San Jose to Fortuna, the hot springs, waterfalls and local food. Harlem was a fantastic guide who weaved humor and information along the trip. We'd recommend this day trip to everyone visiting the area. Our group was fantastic too. Everyone connected over the course of the day.

Great long full day tour well worth the money & time.

The whole day was amazing. From sloths, iguanas, birds and coffee to the zip lining and volcanic hot springs. Long day but well worth it. The guide Giovanni was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and kept us on track.

Volcano and hot springs

Fernando was very informative. It was a very long day but overall we enjoyed our time in the hot tubs and spa pools. We didn't get an opportunity to take a photo of the volcano which was a shame.

Volcano tour without full view of the volcano. Still very worth it

The overall experience was very good. The driver was amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and endearing. He also made us very grateful that we arrived safe after the harrowing drive through the fog on the way back. If there is ONE THING that I would complain about its that you cannot see the volcano. Seriously its a volcano tour and when you arrive, you're told you cannot see the volcano without cloud cover unless you're there early in the morning AND its a clear day. So yeah, that was a bit disappointing, but overall the day trip was very good, well run, and had many highlights.

The views and experiences were beautiful. Fernando was an amazing guide! You get a lot of bang for your buck, would recommend if you want to see a lot in one day and eat good food.

a day with fernando

My partner and I went on this excursion guided by Fernando and he made the trip worthwhile with the abundance of knowledge he had about Costa Rica. The only downside would be that one of the girls that also went complained so much, especially about the weather, even when we were told that it was their rainy season, but it made sense because she was French… Read the itinerary and dress prepared.
