Our guide Elvis was outstanding! He was very informative. It was very nice to be in a small group. We saw the large bus with maybe at least 50 people on it! We were taken to the various filming locations and we also went out of the city. There we went to the open field from the opening scene of the movie. We saw the most beautiful lake too. If you can request a driver/guide, ask for Bruno! He did a wonderful job, was very informative, and a skilled driver. For the price, this is the absolute best way to do the SofM tour.

The Amazing Sound of Music Tour!

What an amazing day with Bob's Special Tours! Well worth the time and the price. There were only six in our minivan group which made it much easier to really appreciate things. Our Tour guide, Elvis, was terrific. He was brimming with trivia knowledge about the movie. The scenery was just like the movie. If you are going to Salzburg, don't miss this one!

The Hills are Alive

Driver was very informative and considerate. Loved touring by minivan rather than big bus. We saw all the SOM sights that are able to be accessed by tour vans. Very enjoyable afternoon.

Excellent Sound of Music Tour

This tour did not start off well. I arrived 15 minutes early to find that the tour had left a few minutes earlier. Due to a mix-up, they had not received my confirmation, even though I'd booked it months earlier. The offered to put me on the tour the next morning, even though it wasn't really convenient. As I was walking away, the lady from the office flagged me down to tell me that the van was just around the corner, and that I could join the tour. Elvis the tour guide was very amiable and knew his facts regarding the Sound of Music sights in and around Salzburg. We saw the graveyard, the house where the kids went into the water, the gazebo, the church from the wedding, and the steps from do re mi. I highly recommend this small group tour

Truly a VIP Austrian experience

The tour provided by Bobs tours and our guide Bruno was excellent. We wanted a more private experience and Bruno and the team did that. There were seven of us and we absolutely loved the commentary, the sites and Bruno’s knowledge of the movie and the area. The music was a plus!

Great Sound of Music tour

Great tour of the Sound of Music locations. Our tour guide Franziska was terrific. She gave us so much information about Salzburg, the story of the real Trapp family, the behind the scenes story of the making of the movie,and a little gossip thrown in. The weather was awful but we totally enjoyed the drive to Mondsee with the movie soundtrack playing the whole way. We were all singing along to the music. Great way to see parts of the city and to see the hills come alive with the sound of music!

Bruno was great !

A grreat knowledge of the movie, including dates, actors and the behind the scenes stories. Comical and pleasant, Bruno was a great guide and very flexible for our drop off. Thanks to all, we enjoyed the tour, would have been more enjoyable if weather would have cooperated !

What a great day and experience!

This was really an enjoyable experience and worth every cent within 2 hours of the 4 hour tour. Peter was a walking encyclopedia and very humorous. His Austrian roots brought the tour additional perpestive. This tour is a no-brainer. Enjoy!

Great tour

Great to see the locations and Marcos told a lot of inside scoop about how the movie was made and how it compared to the truth of the family.

A great way to see Salzburg and the surrounding area!

We had great weather for this experience and we loved our guide, Bruno. Before booking the tour, we read the reviews and it is true that you cannot go inside a lot of the "iconic" settings for the movie. For example, Captain Von Trapp's home is now a private hotel, the field on top of the mountains where Maria and the children have a picnic is privately owned, etc. But we were very happy with the sights that we did get to see. The van was comfortable and we could hear the tour guide very well (there were some reviews that stated that the sound system was broken, but that was not true for us). Bruno was incredibly knowledgeable about the movie and I learned a lot about how the movie was filmed and the international public response to it. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves the Sound of Music!

Best tour ever

We had a small group of 4 on our tour. Our guide, Franziska, took us to see more sites than we were expecting. All were amazing. And she shared some stories of when the movie was made. A great tour!!

Great Tour

Excellent tour with a knowledgeable and enjoyable tour guide. We were able to visit so many areas where the movie was filmed, including the cathedral where the wedding was filmed. I highly recommend this tour if you are a Sound of Music fan!!

Good small group tour

Good knowledgeable driver, small group so easy access to some places between stops. Got to see many of the locations but the wedding scenes church was awesome

Fantastic trip not to miss

Jonathon the guide for the tour was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and informative. Collected as arranged. Clean comfy vehicle. Really enjoyable trip to see sights from the Sound of Music. The views on the trip were stunning and being in a minivan enabled the scenic journey.

Jonathan did such a wonderful van tour! Four hours of history, scenic views and answered questions! Would definitely use Bob’s yours again. 5 stars!!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Great tour around Salzburg. There was only one other couple with us on the tour and they were a joy to be around. Our tour guide was very good and had all kinds of insight into the making of that movie and the actual history of the Von Trapp family. A must do tour for all Sound of Music lovers.

Wonderful small scale tour

Hubby and enjoyed taking this small scale tour of the Sound of Music locations around Salzburg. Definitely recommend paying a little extra and not taking a large bus tour. Our tour guide, Eve, was wonderful and knowledgeable about Salzburg and SoM trivia. She was an expertly safe driver, especially as we drove back roads (with wonderful mountain scenery!) to one of the locations. The length of the tour was perfect - we did the morning tour and had the rest of our day to explore afterwards! Also, being picked up at our hotel was lovely and a helpful service that this company offers.

Smashing

Wonderful trip, Bruno was great and we saw so much of the Austrian beauty along the way. Bruno explained everything very well and gave good recommendations for the local area on request

Family trip

The most memorable was seeing the main sights of sound of music and actually being there. Unfortunately the PA system in the van couldn’t be heard throughout. I had a family of 6 and we were in the back of van. We couldn’t hear anything that she was saying and we asked numerous times if she could turn it up. She was very knowledgeable and we would have loved to be able to hear all the information but we couldn’t. It is noisier in the back of the van just with the driving so we missed out on all the information that was provided that would have been good for my kids to hear.

Fun small group tour

Small group (a passenger van for 8) definitely makes this tour more enjoyable. The staff is responsive and communicative (when making reservation and confirming details) and our driver kept the journey interesting with historical facts and original von Trapp music. If you love the Sound of Music movie and history behind it - this tour is for you.

A spirited tour of the Sound of Music filming locations

We took the Sound of Music tour with our two girls, ages 6 and 9, and everyone had a great time. The weather was a bit cold and snowy, but that did not dampen our spirits. Our guide Eva was a knowledgeable, fun, and great host who was a delight to spend a few hours with. We chose this tour over the larger bus tour because of the smaller group size and the option to be picked up at our hotel (for the morning tour), and I think that we definitely made the right choice. I would recommended Bob's Special Tours to anyone visiting Salzburg.

Fun way to spend the morning!

Fun time in Salzburg seeing the sights. Not only the sound of music stuff but the history of the city and the actual movie info. Our guide was great and spoke good English.

Our tour guide Eva had a...

Our tour guide Eva had a lot of knowledge but like most Austrians didn’t seem to love the Sound of Music as much as Americans do having seen the movie only once. We enjoy watching it year after year. My parents enjoyed the big bus Sound of Music tour better as they sang along to the music from the movie throughout the tour.

Disappoinment

Provider declined my reservation, so I was not able to take the tour. No further communication from the provider, so was not able to reschedule.

Cancelled booking day before scheduled tour.

Booked trip several weeks before our visit to Salzberg only to receive the day before scheduled tour that it had been cancelled and we were being offered 2 alternative dates instead. Fortunately we were able to fit in one of the alternative options, I'm sure others would not. So instead of a morning tour we undertake an alternative afternoon tour. Upon arriving at the tour operators office we are informed, by our guide and driver, the problems the company is having. All very well, but I'm a paying customer and the company should not be taking bookings for tours they can't staff. So was the tour any good. Well it stared fine, the first few locations we visited were as promised, and we were able to take some good pictures and Eva, the guide, gave us lots of information about Salzberg the city, the making of the Sound of Music and its locations etc. However, being an afternoon tour it began to get dark and our visit to the lake and town in the opening prelude to the Movie were taken as the sun was fading fast and our experience was less than expected. We then travelled on to the Wedding Church, by which time upon arrival it was pitch black. Walking to the front of the church the street lighting gave an opportunity for a poorly lit photograph of the front of the church. Upon entering the church, the group of us were in total darkness. Someone found a switch and one small light came on giving no light at all. The group all put on their phone torches in an attempt at getting a picture. Which resulted in a dark grainy thing not worth looking at. This was not the tour we'd expected or booked. We were neither given an apology or a discount for being offered a poorer service. We were not offered a refund when the original scheduled tour was cancelled, and to add to the experience, the guide was answering calls from other clients whose tours had been cancelled, during our tour. Don't go with these guys.

It was good

I liked a small group tour, saw most of the sights we expected to. However the view from the minivan was limited and the driver did not always use the microphone / the group had to constantly remind her. And then she would turn her head to talk to the passengers in the front seat or her voice would drop and we wouldn’t hear.

Sound of Music tour

A fun afternoon spent visiting many of the sites used in the making of Sound of Music and learning more about the actual von Trapp family story.

A Basic kind of Sound of Music Tour

This was sort of a bare bones tour… the guide was pleasant and we saw various locations, but she knew less than we did about the back story of Sound of Music and didn’t give us much to enhance the experience. Mostly she provided help with getting photos in various spots which was helpful.

The hills were definitely alive

Bruno was great. Clearly has lots of von Trapp knowledge as well as of Salzburg. Loved the tour! Would recommend to any Sound of Music fan.

Great guide

Wonderful tour guide. We don't feel we missed out on anything. Good steady pace but not too strenuous

GREAT TOUR for both small and big fans of the film

This small group was simply amazing in every way. Anchoring the superb excursion was top-notch tour guide Bruno, who possesses an understanding of and appreciation for Americans' fascination and obsession with the classic film. The small group size allowed for personal attention and efficient movement. A plus was getting some interesting info about the city itself as the van moved along from one location to another. I am comfortable in saying that with ourselves and the other couples, while one partner was the bigger movie fan and the other one less so, ALL of us were swept away with this excursion (thus, the title of this review). It was great value for the money, and it's hard to imagine a better organized and executed tour. Any comments about not getting closer to a few authentic sites (which was hands off by owners) were offset by Bruno's knowledge and info regarding access, and with a zoom lens, good pictures can be taken. Kudos to Bob's Special Tours!

Take the Minivan Tour....100% better than a bus tour!

We (4 couples) did the minivan tour and LOVED it! Elvis (his real name) was an excellent guide and excellent driver. This tour is so much more than Sound of Music sites....although those were really great. If you only have a short time, you will see most of Salzburg! We were especially happy that we were in our minivan instead of one of the huge busses. It was $15 more per person for the minivan tour, but 100% worth it!

Go small

Eugene was awesome. I wish he could travel with us. The small tours were personable and provided great opportunities for pictures and free time.

Really enjoyable tour!

Great tour with Bruno! Friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. I enjoyed going on a smaller tour (8 of us) rather than opting for some of the bigger bus ones with other companies as there was less hanging around waiting for everyone, we got to ask more questions plus it wasn’t crowded every time we got to a stop on the tour.

A Great Tour for All Fans Big or Small

As pictured, our being inside of the church of the movie’s wedding scene was simply surreal. After having seen the gazebo in an earlier outdoor location across from the movie mansion over thirty years ago, the Hellbrunn location is in an ideal setting to be admired and appreciated. The entire excursion was immensely enhanced and made more enjoyable by guide Bruno, who was outstanding in every way. He possesses movie knowledge along with familiarity of and appreciation for Americans’ fascination and obsession with the classic film. The small group tour provides personal and detailed attention and interaction that is not possible with a big group.

Sound of Music Van Tour

Beautiful scenery and interesting information about the filming of Sound of Music and Salzburg history. This tour is best for adults. Familiarity with the film plot and details is assumed. Be sure to sit in the front or second row. It was hard to hear the tour guide's narration in the back and she said there was nothing she could do about it.

It became real have always loved the movie and admired the scenery mission accomplished Having listened Bruno explain the history of Austria and the movie highlighted the experience

The weather did not cooperate but our tour guide Eva (I believe) was a trooper and so knowledgeable. She made sure that we were able to enjoy every minute.

Great sound of Music Tour!

Guide Eva was excellent! She was very knowledgeable about the VanTrapp family, not just what was portrayed in the Hollywood movie. Small group was great, felt like we had lots of time and saw more. Also we were picked up and dropped off at our hotel, very convenient!
