Original Sound of Music Tour Salzburg With Schnitzel and Noodle

Beautiful afternoon of scenery in Salzburg!

Beautiful scenery and interesting history. The tour guide, Peter, was wonderful and our driver Franz was very competent. Only problem I had was that I paid for the option with dinner. The dinner is actually a voucher to a restaurant 15 min away- it was $40 more than the other option but the voucher was valued around $20. Stick to the no-dinner option!

Great experience!

Unfortunately we had a very rainy day but our tour guide was so upbeat and made it memorable. The singing on the bus was a great touch!

Old town Salzburg was beautiful!!

Our tour guide was absolutely wonderful. Her smile was infectious!! Fun history and comfortable bus. Service was excellent. Enjoyed the authentic dinner in Old Town Salzburg

DO NOT TAKE THE SOUND OF MUSIC TOUR WITH SCHNITZEL AND NOODLES!

While the tour was good--even though the site implies that you will physically stand on the grounds of and see a particular location and do not--the actual problem is with the dinner; especially MISREPRESENTING that I will have BROTH with CREAM COLORED PONIES. My travel agent even wrote to Sara Herzl's office explaining how my friends and I were NOT GIVEN a MAP with directions to the restaurant as the response from Herzl's office stated, nor did we have a tour guide or driver to bring us to this unknown location--foreigners in a strange city, a paid for tour AND dinner and we are abandoned, FLAT in the middle of Mirabelle Gardens, NOT at their bus terminal as the response letter also stated. Had I not stopped the tour guide, who wished us "So Long, Farewell" even before the Gardens' last stop, my friends and I would not have even known the name of the restaurant or the roughed out directions he gave; there was no voucher with THAT information on it, also contrary to the response letter. However, the worst was that the letter said they were sorry TO START, BUT the tone (something I know about, as an English teacher) turned detached--rote--and untrue. I expect more from ANYTHING associated with MY BELOVED SOUND OF MUSIC.

Fun, family friendly tour

What a fun experience! We took this tour with our family of 6. My youngest child (8 years old) especially loved it! We were able to see many of the places where movie filming took place around Salzburg. We also enjoyed the sing-a-long as we drove through the Austrian countryside to the church where the VonTrapp wedding was filmed. Our guide, Mitch, was funny and kind. We all learned a lot about the movie and Salzburg too. We added on the dinner of Schnitzel and noodles with apple strudel. The meal was okay... not amazing, but the kids still enjoyed the experience. I suggest saving yourself the extra money and just dine somewhere else in town. I highly recommend this tour for Sound of Music lovers. It was so much fun!

Great tour, a must do item for your Salzburg visit

Awesome Tour for Sound of Music Enthusiasts

5/5 would recommend this tour! Kylie, our tour guide was very informative. She gave us a lot of behind the scenes as we drove through the city. Her enthusiastic energy was also felt throughout the bus. However, don't bother buying the meal voucher. You redeem the voucher at the end of the tour and walk about 10min to redeem the voucher to eat mediocre food. Wouldn't recommend. Overall, we enjoyed the immersive experience and can't wait to watch The Sound of Music again when we get home!

Fun and fabulous!

What a fun tour! Sooo interesting and Informstive - learned lots of tidbits about the movie I didn’t already know. Our guide Kylie was so fun and enthusiastic - singing at the top of her voice with us on the way to each of the stops. Lots of toilet breaks and an on board bar meant we were all comfortable and it was amazing to see so many of the sites from the movie and take great photos. Informative movie played on the bus at the end on our way back to to Salzburg. Couch driver Mickey was amazing steering the coach around tight bends and up narrow lanes. Loved the energy and excitement of the whole tour. Souvenirs available at the end too.

A super afternoon with a lovely balance of movie locations and fantastic scenery. The guide was great and made the afternoon most enjoyable. The song-a-long was great fun too. We opted for the evening meal which was really enjoyable. We would highly recommend this trip.

VERY FUN EXCURSION

David was THE BEST tour guide! Informative, funny and just the right amount of information. Trip into the countryside was lovely. Driver was very skilled. I’d highly recommend this excursion to anyone who loves “The Sound of Music.”

Wonderful Tour Highly Recommend

I’ve always loved the movie and although my husband isn’t an huge fan, this was a big highlight of our trip for both of us. Our tour guide was very entertaining and we learned a lot about the movie and Salzburg. Dinner was delicious, too! Salzburg is a beautiful part of the world!

Just ok...

The bus ride through the mountains to Mondsee was beautiful. But the tour itself was not what I expected. Definitely do not want to do this trip solo. I was the only one who apparently had lunch included. The turkey schnitzel with spatzel was delicious at Herzl.

Glorious!

A wonderful tour! Simon was our tour guide, he wowed us with facts from the movie that we would have never known. The scenery is just glorious, a wonderful morning out!

Group size as too large

We have used Viator tours in several countries and have recommended them to many friends. This particular tour was a little lack luster and frustrating. The tour company Viator contracted with over sold the trip which had a max of 60 and needed a small van to follow the big bus. We were on the big bus and misled. We weren’t asked if we wanted on tour with 70 plus people. The group was so large it was impossible to hear the guide when we did arrive on location. I guess truth be told the premium tours are superior to these overcrowded and hot buses. There were no outlets or usb plugs to charge our phones. However I asked the bus driver and he did let me plug my phone I to the USB up by him. Unfortunately that meant I wasn’t able to take pictures while riding through beautiful scenery. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly although she did dictate where you had to sit on the bus. Not sure why that was necessary.

The Tour was Music to Our Ears!

Hans down, THE BEST tour we’ve ever taken!!! So many awesome sights coupled with a guide who was not only deeply knowledgeable but also possessing a fantastic sense of humor.

Great Experience

It’s really nice to visit the actual filming locations of the musical. The tour and the guide is great and the lunch is very tasty. It would have been nicer if the duration is longer with more stopover instead of having drive by for some of the spots. The whole drive between the locations is very enjoyable.

My favourite things

Had a very interesting trip and our tour guide Gérard was very informative and had a good sense of humour. There was plenty of time at each stop to take in the views and see all the different scenes from the movie. I was the only one who had the dinner as part of my tour and it made for a lovely ending to the day. The snitzel with noodles and warm strudel was absolutely delicious in a beautiful little restaurant. Had a super day.

Beautiful and fun tour!

Was so much fun. Our guide David was engaging and made it a fun time! Driver Hachi was amazing. We stopped at all the sights from the movie that are accessible around Salzburg, drove up into the lake/mountain district to see lakes featured in movie and to Mondsee town to see the wedding chapel from the movie

Panorama tour sound of music

This was absolutely amazing tour my son booked for us to come to Salzburg so I could do the Sound Of Music tour as a 60th birthday present. I grew up watching with my mum and was going to bring her until she sadly passed and my son said didn’t want you to miss experience he was clever he put presents in brown paper packaging and tied them up with string and last one was boarding pass brilliant. The tour did not disappoint with tour guide absolutely brilliant singing and getting us to join in with songs a day I will never forget thanks Panorama tours

Great tour

Really knowledgeable and friendlyguide who I think was called Atleaner. Insider knowledge of the filming and the film itself. Tour went out of the city to the Lake district. Stops for photo opertunities, which was lovely. The final stop was a lovely town straight out a film set. The countryside is beautiful. I'd highly recommend this tour.

The whole tour was really interesting!! I was surprised on how the film was made and all that was involved! The tour guide was great! Great sense of humor and trying o get all involved!! The bus driver was great as well!!

Refund Requested

We contacted Viator to cancel our reservation a little under 24 hours due to the weather. Trains were NOT running to Salzburg from Munich. This was OUT of our control and we would greatly appreciate a full refund or, at minimum, a credit toward a future Viator excursion. Appreciate an immediate response to this inquiry.

Mitch made the trip

Mitch was fantastic. He made the trip with his jokes and wit. He made a great joke about chucking a couple’s baby in the water when telling the story of how the youngest girl in the movie couldn’t swim. My one regret is that we didn’t go to the mountain where Maria spun around and sang. It’s apparently actually in Germany and privately owned now by someone who doesn’t want tourists. But the palaces and St. Michael’s were gorgeous. And it was really actually fun riding around in the decked out bus. I bought the ticket that included lunch. I think o was the only one on the bus who did. It was very nice. It wasn’t the most high cuisine of their offerings, certainly, but the staff were lovely. So pleasant. And Herzl Restaurant is really very nice. Bonus was that I also wanted to see the Cathedral and Mozart’s birthplace, and they were all within a few minutes’ walk.

Sound of Music condensed version

The tour was excellent. Chris, our guide, was informative as well as entertaining and friendly and he kept us on schedule. The tour (4 hr/half day) was a bit rushed. The one disappointing part was the arrival at the church and the allotted time there. We had approximately 15-20 minutes at the Gazebo area and approximately 30 minutes to view the church at Mondsee. This was too rushed to enjoy the sacred church and then allow time to try to grab a small meal or even a coffee. Panorama Tours might revisit the 4 hr tour in order to give customers a more relaxed, enjoyable experience. We went on this tour a few years ago and in Mondsee we had a leisurely lunch at a restaurant there. It was a much more pleasant experience and that is why we decided to book this tour in October 2023. Had we known it was to be this rush in and rush out we would not have booked this tour.

nostalgic tour of beloved film

what a amazing tour, learned about the actual von trapp family compared to what the movie showed. Only English speaking people were on the tour. was more popular for them then 9n Austria or other parts of Europe. it was nice to hear the stories about things that happens on the set. seeing where stuff was filmed and going to all of them. worth it if you've seen and enjoyed the movie.

Do this when in Salzburg

This tour is a must when in Salzburg! Tour guide Peter and driver Ferdinand were delightful! Peter was very knowledgeable about all things Sound of Music, locations, etc!

Tour Was A Hoot!

Let me start by saying that I’m not a Sound of Music fan. Having said that, the tour was a hoot! Our guide, Zoe, led the bus in a singalong of the Sound of Music sound track during the entire tour, while providing interesting commentary and backstories on the various places we stopped. All in all, a fun way to spend the day.

Decent tour

I enjoyed that the tour guide told the real story of the VonTrapp family and we played songs as well. Went the the filming locations, but it felt a little rushed at each spot other than the final where we had a little free time. The dinner was just ok. Overall a decent tour!

A great part of our brief Salzburg stay.

It was a gorgeous day in the Austrian mountains! Our guide and our bus driver were very personable and provided a wealth of information about the making of the Sound of Music, interspersed with music from that wonderful sound track. The bus driver was HIGHLY skilled, maneuvering through city street and tight roundabouts with hardly a care! Highly recommended!

Great tour, but missed some spots

Our tour guide, Zoe, was lots of fun and had so many fun facts to share about Salzburg in general that we were sorry we hadn't taken the tour our first day in town instead of the last so we could have searched out some of the places she mentioned by ourselves that the tour really didn't cover. We loved the sing-along on the bus and the trip to the Lake District, especially the cathedral where the wedding was filmed, but were a bit disappointed that we didn't at least stop so we could take decent photos of some of the places we couldn't go (like the front of the house used in filming, and the Abbey itself). Nonetheless, we had a great time and aren't sorry we spent a day (and having lunch) with the von Trapps, Zoe and Viator!

Great family trip

An excellent tour. Really fun to go on and informative. You get to see all the key places relevant to the film. Easy to find the pick up place and it’s 4 hours long so well worth the money.

Great tour…avoid the schnitzel with noodle add on

Amazing tour with excellent driver and guide. My only complaint is the schnitzel and noodles add on….food was good but they charged €10 for still water. All prices included in the meal except for drinks and we just wanted water but €10 is ridiculous.

The Sound of Music tour was ‘ one of my favourite things ‘ !

Our guide Peter was wonderful . He told us the ‘ real story ‘ of The Sound of Music . Lots of little extras from him . The meal however was very poor . Do the tour but not the meal !

A fun part of our 10-day European vacation

My wife and I had fun on the tour, and if you are a Sound of Music fan, you should definitely do it. Our tour guide, Zoey, was great. But here's why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. First, a good chunk of the "4 hour" tour is time spent simply driving to and from Mondsee, over an hour. Second, several of the locations, you simply drive past and only see from the bus, at a distance. Third, the dinner was disappointing. Our schnitzel, which is usually pork or veal, was turkey, and it really was simply a breaded regular cutlet, not the thin cutlet that is usually used for schnitzel. Also, be warned, though the bus is comfortable, there is no bathroom on it, though several stops there are bathrooms, or a WC (water closet, what they call them in Europe) to use. Bottom line is, if you have access to a car and do a little research, you can hit all these places on your own and save yourself money. But if you want to be with fellow SoM enthusiasts, it's a fun way to spend part of your day in Salzburg.

Fun and informative!

Brilliant tour - very informative and lots of fun! A great way to get your bearings around the city of Salzburg too. Plenty of interesting facts for those who aren’t fans of the Sound of Music as well. Highly recommended.

An okay experience, not all Sound of Music stops.

A lovely experience although would have liked to have seen Von trap house up close and Nonberg abbey and not through the window! Would have liked to seen Maria’s mountain trail too. All you see is the lake from one side, the gazebo and inside the wedding church, mirabell gardens you have to take yourself, We saw more sound of music related film points on our own. Some stop offs were pointless and not directly related to the film, but still nice views. The best part was the food at Herzl restaurant!

Sound of Music Tour with Schnitzel, Noodles and Strudle

The tour was excellent. The Tour Guide was very entertaining and informative. The included lunch was less than wonderful. The restaurant was very nice and the outdoor seating was pleasant. The soup was a simple beef broth with a few soda crackers. The schnitzel was Turkey and not pork. It was had an egg and flour coating versus the traditional bread crumb coating. The strudel was quite good. The service was friendly All in all the tour was very good but the add on lunch did not meet expectations

Just brilliant..

This was a brilliant trip. I absolutely loved it. Informative, humerous, friendly, participation, everything good. I wish they had something like this in Australia. Well done!!

Wonderful Sound of Music Tour with Peter!

Fantastic afternoon in Salzburg with the Sound of Music Tour! Peter, our tour guide, was so knowledgeable and full of stories related to the movie, its director, the production and the actors. They took us to the locations and played the music so we could sing along. The tour was a blast. We also went to dinner at Herzel afterwards and that was worth it! Dinner was delicious and Herzel was serving in the terrace due to the wonderful weather. Don’t miss this experience!

A great Salzburg experience

A great tour that doesn’t force-march you from site to site. A delightful tour leader, fun song-a-longs, lots of history. Great stops, beautiful sites, wonderful experience. Worth every penny.
