Great trip

Most enjoyable trip to Rottnest Island, ferry was efficient and comfortable. The island is well worth a visit and meeting the quokkas. Beautiful beaches and amazing scenery .

Highly recommended!

Really easy process, booking, checking in, etc. Bikes were well maintained and easy to ride. Staff were very friendly.

A day of cycling on the Island.

The trip was great but I was disappointed with the water rehydration stations on the Island all being empty. I feel this was dangerous in such heat and the customer was forced to pay for water at kiosks. The hire bike was not very well maintained and had a loose cotter-pin in the bottom bracket which made going up the hills difficult and the bike made a constant noise.

Highly recommend

Whilst visiting family having travelled from the UK decided to hire bikes and use the ferry. Booked the 10am ferry which had all the bikes and helmets on board. After a nice 30 mins crossing we were handed our bikes and helmets and off we went. Signposting on the island is not that good. We had a map of the different coloured cycle routes but the island could mark the routes easier. There were times when we did not know which way to travel Bikes were fine. Only 3 gears which made it hard work up some of the hills. The island is up and down and we decided to cycle the longest route which took us 4 hours. Lovely island but it was a really hot day so found the cycle ride a bit tough towards the end. I did ask what do we do if we get a puncture. Staff just shrugged his shoulders and said jump on the bus. Buses travel around the island if you did not want to cycle. Excellent trip though and worth the money.

Wonderful experience

Self guided bike trip

We decided to take the tour where we rode our own bikes once we got to the island. All was great but it was not clear from Seastar where to find bikes. Then we found that the only way to find your way was a paper map and assisted by my AllTrails app. It would be nice to have something that told you more about the sights. My bike had difficulties with changing gears but was more work to call and get a new one. But my husbands bike was good. Maybe better maintenance

Excellent easy riding

We really enjoyed riding the bikes around the island. It is a pretty easy ride and the bikes were in excellent condition.

Every memeber of the Sealink staff were happy, welcoming and treated you as a valued guest. What a wonderful experience.

Brilliant daytrip

I went with Sealink, it was cheaper to go on a weekday and I highered a normal push bike, there are electric bikes available but much more expensive and you have to leave a $200 deposit. I got the 9am ferry, takes 30 mins to the island, it was a little rough on the way out so if you do suffer from sea sickness I'd recommend getting there a bit earlier so you can get a seat out the back of the boat which is outside, the fresh air and clearer view of the horizon will help. The staff were friendly, the boat left on time going out but was delayed 30 mins on the way back which I didn't mind because I had more time with the Quokkas and even got fish & chips from Frankie's on Rotto to sit by the sea and have it before the journey back which was lovely. I cycled the whole island so from about 9:45-2:45 I took in all the lovely scenery, stopped off and took photos and videos. I went around the island left to right so by the time I got to Parakeet Bay it was about 1:35 and I was lucky enough to have the little beach to myself for a few minutes. I found walking along the sand in my bare feet and letting the waves come over them it really helped cool them down and they felt really refreshed. Getting the bike was quick & easy, I did buy a bus ticket because I wasn't sure if I would have the energy to cycle the whole of the island but I ended up not using the bus ticket (which you can't use another time) but it was only $15 I lost out on so not really a big deal. I didn't see any Quokkas until after 2:30pm after I took the bike back. They all seemed to be near the cafe (Geordie's) & the other eateries down from the police station. I was so happy to finally see some as they are usually nocturnal but being winter they seemed to come out earlier. They're so cute and small, was hard not to reach out and pat one that came right up to me to sniff my shoes but they are wild animals so you shouldn't touch them nor feed them, there are signs about the Island and staff to make sure you abide by them. I would love to go back in the spring to snorkel and see some of the fish! There is plenty of accommodation options on the island but I feel like my day trip sufficed, unless you're wanting to do walks and just splash out on a nights stay then a day trip should satisfy most.

Cycling gave great flexibility!

Great island to cycle around! Great food choices! Snorkeling at little Salmon Bay beautiful! Lexi’s coffee from the van at West End just when we needed it was superb! A bit windy but perfect temperature in low 20’s!

me and my partner came for our anniversary and it was amazinggg!! we had the best time and there was so much serenity, we are already planning to come with some mates and spend the night!!

Great Day Trip

This is our 3rd visit to Rottnest and by far the best one to date. Previous visits were nice as well, but the days were too warm. Brought along 2 friends visiting from Canada - definitely one of the highlights to their 6- week stay in Freo. The weather was perfect at 25 C, cloudless, snorkelled Parker Point and Salmon Bay, picnic lunch on the beach and cycled around the entire island. Note to first timers wishing to cycle the island - very hilly, and can be windy, so make sure to use either a bike with multiple gears (21 or more) or an e-bike. Topped it off with ice cream waiting for the ferry. Ferry travel is highly organized and straightforward; boats are clean, roomy, have toilets, bar and snack counter. A beautiful time on Rottnest

Overrated but worth the experience

Rottnest for us was only worthwhile because we saw some Quokkas. Other than that we found it underwhelming. Not sure what the attraction is supposed to be. I gather the hop-on-hop off bus is the way the go for many, or cycling the island if you have the time & stamina. The 'Settlement' seems popular with young bikini-clad women & shirtless muscular guys. Good luck to them. As to eateries, would highly recommend Isola Restaurant - Italian at its v. best. The bike hire aspect of our pre-booked package was poor. Still had to line up only to have to return soon with a bike with an under-inflated tyre & loose screw on the (therefore unusable) water bottle holder. It's a mad scramble to find a helmet that fits, padded seat cover or basket etc. Anyway, we ticked a bucket list item.

Reliving Rottnest

The freedom of going where we wanted with the bicycles was great. The yellow volunteer guides everywhere were excellent and enhanced the experience enormously. I relived a visit I did 25 years ago. It surpassed my previous journey - and my cycling prowess at 75 surprised me.

Maybe an off day for peddle and flipper, but once we were off WOW

This is an amazing place to visit, would be a five star review except for the bike hire side of it. We pre booked our bikes , and this queue took forever whereas the people that hadn’t were served and on there way a lot quicker, there was no cost saving (30 dollars per bike) Appreciate there is an influx of passengers all at one time , just felt this could of been a bit smoother to allow more time to explore rather than in a queue, Cost us approx 40 minutes to get bikes , against 10 minutes for people that hadn’t pre booked Pedal and flipper , up your game . All said and done once on bikes and away , what a day we had 👍

Much needed break

Amazing experience will go again! We loved it and I’m hoping to get back there before school holidays end

Service above the norm

We were very impressed with the help given by Captain Mike in retrieving a case left by us on the quay at Rottnest. Mike went out of his way to bring it back to Fremantle and communicated with us on its arrival and waited by the roadside at the refuelling point to hand it over. Well done Mike and crew. Shining example of Sea Link’s great service. Denis and Wendy, Dunsborough.

Awesome

Fabulous cruise to Rottnest Island a true paradise. Inclusion of pushbike with cruse booking made for easy seamless quick up of bikes on the island. Friendly crew on the boat and even an ice block on the return trip.

Better customer service at booking office

I booked at the Fremantle office,the staff were unhelpful unprofessional I waited a few minutes to be served I was the only person there the two booking clerks were chatting to each other I was ignored no eye contact no recognition I was standing there then one of them said “can I help you “ I said I would like a price for bikes and return ferry tickets to Rottnest gave the dates with that a sheet of paper was slammed on the counter and they continued their conversation . I looked over to the Rottnest Express office and there was a line of people waiting unfortunately I didn’t have much time to wait so I decided to continue with the booking at Sealink I felt I was disturbing the booking clerks by doing this, anyway I booked the ferry return trip paid for baggage labels and bike labels got back to the car and then realised I didn’t have the bike labels so having to go back to pick them up . If more attention was given to the customer possibly this would have been a more pleasant experience . However the staff on board the boat were extremely nice greeted everyone well and offered the children icy poles

An experience to be had!

The whole experience as a whole was fun to say the least. Sharing the day with family, biking the island, lunching at Isola were all great experiences. The boat transfers were comfortable and ran on schedule. Hiring of bikes was simple and straightforward. Glad we pre-booked. The one gripe I would have is the lack of signage along the way and the distance involved. The walks do not mention how far in they go (how many metres in) so as to calculate whether you have the time to complete it etc. Apart from that we had a fantastic day!!

such amazing staff that were super understanding. I didn't get a ticket sent to me but I paid and had a reference number. with no questions they didn't make it a drama and let me attend the trip

Disgusted at their lack of customer care

We had booked a long weekend get away for our anniversary and were spending quite a bit of money/night on our accommodation. We arrived the Saturday with SeaLink - no problem (we were booked to return the Monday morning 10am). We received a text message on the Sunday morning from SeaLink stating that our ferry ride at 10am the next day was cancelled due to weather conditions. They would only be leaving Rotto at 16:00 the Monday. They did not book us on the 16:00 trip back nor did they seek out any alternative for us to return home with Rottness Express, who were still running all their ferries to and from the island. They also told us that if we wanted to leave with Rottness Express, we needed to rebook with them directly and thus loosing our money for the original booking. We insisted that we they book us on the next ferry home as we had children to get back to and could not wait the whole of the next day. Thank goodness that Discovery park reimbursed us for our lost nights stay.

We were caught un heavy rain when cycling. May be can have more hut for tourist to rest n hide fm rain?

Very poor bikes

Old bikes . Rusty. Brakes don’t work well. Won’t change gears well. Honestly a risk to anyones health riding them

Dissatisfied with bike hire experience

Ferry trip over & back was straightforward, island trip very interesting. Bike hire was disappointing. It was a very wet day and neither Sealink nor Pedal & Flipper (bike hire company) would cancel / refund bike hire. No advantage in booking the package it would have been better to book the bikes on the day when we knew what the weather would be like.

Rottnest Island Adventure

Fantastic experience. Rode the island on ebikes. 31kms all up. Beautiful scenic ride and the Quokka experience is priceless.

biking is quite tiring

ferry redemption was quick and easy, friendly lady at the Sealink counter, boarded ferry with no issues, there were upstairs (open air) seating as well as downstairs indoor ones, free to roam around bike hire place was not so easy to find, it's not as near the ferry terminal as suggested, took us a good 15mins to wander around to find the place, more signage would be great be very selective at the bire hire place, there are many different bikes (at varying levels of maintenance), so make sure yours is working fine - gears, brakes etc - before leaving, the package comes with locks, so remember to ask for yours, they didn't give us till i asked for it, and only got 2 for our 4 bikes. Some bikes have bottle holders, and you need to pay extra for a basket, think was $5? the route around the island is not as easy as we'd imagined, many up/downhills, so make sure your gears are working well, even such, our butts hurt so much we gave up around lunchtime , very nice stop points - prob better for non winter times, can go snorkeling. next time, i'd prob go for the bus and snorkel instead there's signage around the island, but there wasn't any that points specifically back to the ferry terminal, so beware, we followed the one that said "settlement" and hoped for the best, luckily for us it was correct lots of quokkas around (esp the main food area) , so plenty of selfie opportunities, they are not shy and will loiter around you for food scraps.

Non Existent Customer Service

Date of travel was Sunday 12/6. A very blustery day making for a rough trip over and the weather was a mixed bag with both showers and sun but this is not something that Sealink has control over so no issue with this. My only minor grievance for the trip to the Island was the garbage bin was full on boarding the vessel (near the kiosk / bar). After enjoying our time on the Island notwithstanding some issues with the weather we returned to the Ferry Wharf at about 3.30 for our scheduled return trip at 4pm where there were already nearly about 50 people lined up. We joined the line and waited and waited……. 4pm came and went without any sign of our ferry. Meanwhile the queue extended for perhaps 200 metres. At 4.15 a competitor ferry service arrived for its 4.30 scheduled return service but still no sign of ours. Nobody from Sealink around to ask so we all continue to wait (and hope it will eventually turn up). Finally at just on 4.30 our ferry arrives just ahead of another competitor service (or private service) scheduled for a 4.30 return. We finally board and leave the wharf about 4.45 after everyone boards - it was close to being full at least downstairs where we sat. No apology or explanation for the lateness or any form of communication. I just find it incredulous that Sealink did not seek to communicate in anyway with its customers. I fully understand there may have been a reason for the delay but for there to be no communication or apology at best is downright rude and possibly arrogant. They would have taken mobile phone numbers for all bookings - why not a simple group SMS advising? If this was not possible why not have let somebody on the island know and ask they convey the delay to the waiting passengers? People could have even patronaged the retail outlets and hospitality establishments for another 30 minutes had they known of the extended delay - any extra business may have been appreciated by the owners of the businesses after the lack of visitors for the last couple of years. Anyway should I seek to come back to Rottnest again I will be seeking another service even if it is more expensive. The lack of customer service as outlined above is just appalling in this day and age.

Poor customer service in Viator but the view in rottnest makes it up

Rottnest island is a sweet little island. Serene, calm and chilled. I’ve an issue with viator, hence the poor rating. No fault of the island. I asked for help to change dates using the 24 hours hotline but no one picked up the phone and attended to my needs. Very poor customer service. Also the rates they quote are way more pricey than if I were to book on the spot. This is a no go sigh viator

Beware Bike Hire

The ferry trip was great. Punctual and most people observed the 1.5m rule and wore masks. The bike hire was a disaster. Bikes were not maintained and mine had no gears, had to call for a replacement. Half an hour later a replacement arrived not much better than the first. Only one gear on the back cassette, hard for hill climbs! Chains had no lube and clanked and worked hard on both our bikes. Very disappointing because we couldn't see the whole island like we had planned.

Great Day Trip

Great day on Rottnest such a beautiful place, the beaches and lakes and the wildlife superb. We got the ferry and bike package on line it was very easy and very efficient service. Definitely recommend

Bike hire review

The price was very reasonable and had a great trip over to rotto with plenty of free seats available on the fairy. What we were not happy about at all was there was no we’re at all on the website that said we needed to be over 18 to rent a bike. As my friend and I were only 15 and 16 with no parents over on the island, we had a cart poor exerience spending over an hour trying to figure out a way to get our bikes we pre paid for.

The best day trip ever

I travelled with my hubby went for the day caught up with my friend who lives & works at Rottnest!!! The place is amazing totally amazing Will defo be back ❤️❤️

Fantastic experience

Ferry fast and comfortable and on time. Bikes good way of seeing the island. Quokkas friendly and plentiful. Island has a few hills so if not so for take the Ebike option

Great experience and first class service

Well a great experience with staff that greeted you from the time you got on and were very helpful and smiled. We went to Rottnest for the day and had the bike hire included. It was a brilliant experience made easy by the instructions given. The ferry ride was great to Rottnest and a bit choppy on the way back but I was never worried cause I saw how the crew were and it made me confident in their professionalism. Made our trip memorable and will be back again .
