Glen Curtiss was a fascinating man I’d never heard of and now I’ll never forget him. The museum is amazing. So much to see and learn and appreciate.

Eye opening - Curtiss vs Wright brothers

Incredible museum and actually dispelled all of our childhood beliefs about the first flight. Amazing man! Elon Musk of the past. Well worth the visit. the 1 hr long movie was extremely well done and sets the stage for the museum. Wish we could have learned this in school.

Great history!! Make sure you take time to watch the movie! I was great and had a lot of info about who made what and what you thought you knew.

Good visit for all ages

Very interesting museum. I am not a person interested in airplanes, but I thought this was a very interesting visit. We started by watching the video, which I found a good way to understand the museum and life of Mr.Curtis. The display is organized in a way that you can follow Curtis development as an engineer and inventor. Loved the model airplanes. My only suggestion would be to remaster the video because it is not that easy to understand.

Excellent Museum. I am an airplane person, but also really enjoyed the variety of early bicycles, motor bikes and cars. The video was also excellent telling the hole story of Glenn Curtiss and his law suits and conflicts with the Wright Brothers. I was especially impressed with the Curtiss success in competitions and his companies contributions to WW-I.

Bicycles, motorcycles, cars, planes. Top flight presentations.

This museum tells of the beginning of flight and the struggles this man had to endure. Very professional displays follow the bicycle days, the motorcycle, glider, and aircraft history. Engines, propellers, the re-created float plane, cars, and farm equipment are all visible. Excellent gift shop. Very informative video about his life. Artifacts from their home. Go bother the guys in the restoration shop.

History/Aviation/Motorcycle enthusiasts DO NOT MISS THIS!

We had a very enjoyable visit to the Glenn Curtiss Museum today!! This museum has LOTS to see!! We especially enjoyed the movie about Glenn Curtiss’s life and his amazing contributions to aviation! We’re from OH and of course we only hear about the Wright brothers contributions to aviation. So this was really enlightening and very impressive!!! So glad that my husband picked this museum!!!

Not to be missed. A beautiful muesem on American history and the impact of the aviation. Wonderful coverage of WW l.

Not to be missed. This muesem has something for everyone. Tour book says 1 hour, but I would give it 3 hours. Great muesem for history 1900-1960's. Displays are very well done. Many you can get right up to. The muesem is much larger than it looks when you drive up. It also includes 2 workshops where current restorations are being performed. All on one level. Very handicap accessible. Kids corner and very reasonable. I think we paid $14 each. In the future, I would book a private tour of the muesem or group tour. Don't miss this gem.

History For All Ages

Our first experience, despite being Museum Members for the past 4 years, we found it to be very educational. About 5 hours were spend inside among all of the great history, motor bikes, planes, automobiles, Curtiss Estate items and other important local history. After speaking with several locals it was refreshing to know that many a school field trip takes place to this museum where important stuff can be learned at a young age. It just takes a spark to set a fire inside some young boy or girl's soul. Then you will have the next world changer. Perhaps the biggest takeaway was the relatively downplayed Curtiss- Wright Brothers Feud which was more fierce in actual reality then realized. Also recognition was given to many others beside Curtiss who helped innovate & build motor bikes and airplanes. All were legendary transportation pioneers of that day that continuously pushed forward. Bring a Lunch and spend some quality time here . . .

Very neat museum. We really enjoyed all the planes and motorcycles. It wasn’t crowded and the people were very nice!

Fun Family Outing

So many different displays. Something for the whole family. We had an age range of 6-86 years and all had a fun time looking at the collections.

Fantastic history of Glen Curtis

Stopped by the museum with my father and we enjoyed it very much. Learned a lot about the history of Glen Curtis would highly recommend. The staff and everyone there were very nice and helpful.

It was so amazing. All the different ages of bicycle, and cars and aircraft I would definitely recommend that if you have the chance you go vist.

Curtiss Museum / Local History Stop

If you are like me and love historic planes, cars, and motorcycles - then I'd stop by this museum. Through the film and some of the exhibits, you will learn a bit of the under-reported Curtiss story and his long rivalry with the Wright brothers. This story does get kind of lost at times in the mixed mission of the museum, which also serves as a general local history museum - with historic fire trucks, exhibits about local businesses, local industrial equipment, and a somewhat random collection of locally-owned motorcycles and cars. These were good things - but the quality of these add-on exhibits was mixed in both worthiness and context and the way they were integrated into the Curtiss story (or not) kind of muddled the experience. This is probably a a result of the Curtiss-specific exhibits having gaps and not filling the space. Still, worth a stop.

Shows rewrite of history

Extremely informative and interesting if you have any interest in aviation. Spent about 4 hours and could have spent more.

Glenn Curtis Museum

The museum has a lot of great history that I wasn't aware of. Lots of vintage bicycles, planes, cars. Also the young lady at the entrance desk. .here name is Amy was wonderful. Gave us some history of the museum and when we asked her about places to see she gave us some great information. One of them was the Mansion and Gardens of Sonnenberg and Maybe Baby Burgers..absolutely the best burger we had in a while. THANK YOU AMY!!!

Great museum! bring you camera!

If your interests are in boating, motorcycles, cycles of all kinds, old cars and aircraft, this is the place. Excellent!

A must see

This is an excellent museum with so much to see and read about. I had really only heard about Glenn Curtiss because I'm somewhat in the area. What a fascinating life! The museum is set up so well, with a lot of different things to see; very vintage motorcycles, airplanes, engines, displays of the first pilots from different countries, a very good film to watch about his life and clash with the Wright brothers, and more. A fun thing we did was the letter scavenger hunt. I had noticed 'secret letters' at a few of the displays. As we were close to leaving I asked how many letters there were supposed to be. I hadn't even found half, but hadn't seen the scavenger hunt paper when entering. So we went back around looking for the letters. I think it was even more fun to do it after we had been through once as we now had a bit of an idea as to where to find them. We had a wonderful time. My daughters are planning on taking their kids for a school trip in the fall.

A Man's Life takes Flight.

This museum is a little off the beaten path but it is worth every minute of the drive. I like aviation and was blown away how a kid with a passion for bikes and motorcycles eventually began designing airplanes that not only flew but took off from the water. There was a great display of bikes, motorcycles, antique cars, boats and memorabilia connected to flying machines. It is very airy and spacious and very large vehicles are displayed throughout the building There is a movie theater that was showing a film about Mr. Curtiss. There is a nice gift shop The historical significance of each item on display is explained. It is a self guided tour. You can go backwards if you wish to review something again. The admission price as $12.00 per adult

A must see!

Very well organized museum with historical airplanes and motorcycles with the portrayal of the life of one of the most influential aviators and inventors of the time...Glenn Curtiss. You don't have to love either motorcycles or airplanes to appreciate this place.

Visit the Glenn H. Martin museum - you will enjoy it!

We enjoyed the museum and that applies even to my wife. She liked the displays of motorcycles and planes etc. This along with the Corning Glass museum were our favorites while visiting the area. While up there visit the Watkins Glenn as well. Worth the trip and the admission. It takes a while to see everything so plan your day to have the time if you like airplanes, motorcycles, history and other period stuff!

Quick stop to break up bike ride to Maine

This is a really nice what can we do type of stop. Rates are reasonable. Displays are very nice and laid out for good visuals. Staff was pleasant. It may not be for everyone if you don’t appreciate history or the evolution of flight, but if you like innovation then I am not sure what is not to like!

Excellent. Well light, good spacing, includes motorcycles and early automobiles, and many engines.

We went to see this museum specifically. The presentation and information were well done. The movie added a lot of detail and context about early aviation. I really like the flight simulators. The bicycle -> motorcycle -> balloon convergence and Alexader Graham Bell and Henry Ford connecttion versus Wright (wrong?) brothers was very interesting. I was surprised by the number of 'seaplanes', at the early stage of flight.

Quite a special place

Lovely gem if you're in the area! A very nice museum, well put-together and crafted with love. Has a large collection of old vehicles (motorcycles, cars, and plenty of planes). You'll probably learn quite a lot here, I know I did! There's even a restoration shop in the back where they've been actively restoring an old plane.

Great Museum for everyone

An excellent museum with a wide range of exhibits. from Bicycles to motorcycles to airplanes everything is well explained and displayed. Amazing the number of planes contained in the building. This is a first-class museum.

Gem of a museum

My son-in-law suggested this museum based on his interest in bikes, motorcycles and racing. We started with the movie which the family thought was a bit long but it was fascinating and really explained the background to all the exhibits. I learned so much! My daughter and I also enjoyed competing against each other during the scavenger hunt.

Exploring some history - worth it!

We thoroughly enjoyed attending at this museum. We spent the afternoon exploring the museum with all of the exhibits and contributions Glenn H Curtiss made towards the innovations of transportation we now use today. An eye-opener for sure! Lots to see and learn. They even have a special restoration area for the planes. We got our tickets from Tripadvisor and they had our booking and printed so we were good to explore when we arrived.

I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would

This museum gave me an entirely new insight into Glenn Curtiss’ impact on the history of aviation and the Wright Brothers, who we all view as the pioneers of aviation. Mostly on display are bicycles, motorcycles and cars. There are a few boats and airplanes. Personal furniture and belongings of Glenn Curtiss are also on display. Make time for the one-hour movie. I thought one hour would be way too long, but it’s packed with information about Glenn Curtiss and is very interesting.

The movie that shows in the theatre was very well done. It was a great resource to help understand the museum better. Had no idea that Hammondsport was so important.

Wonderful Museum

Fabulous museum. The restorations are amazing. Really enjoyed the history of naval aviation as well as some of the local history. Very enjoyable.

Definite Stop

This place was way better than expected. I knew a little about Curtiss but this museum was much larger, and had better displays than I expected. The motorcycle thing was interesting but I was really there for the aviation history. What I expected was an entire museum bashing the Wright Bros and their lawsuits against Curtiss. What I got was museum dedicated entirely to Curtiss and his & peers development of the motorcycle and aviation in general. Not hardly a peep about the Wrights. I guess the best compliment I can give is it gave me a whole new perspective on how Curtiss helped to develop early aviation.

A great couple of hours in the Finger Lakes

The small yet full museum did not disappoint. Full of marvelous bikes, motorcycles and planes. Lots of interesting and fascinating pictures and exhibits. A not to miss when in the Finger Lakes.

Well worth the side road trip.

The movie in the auditorium about Glenn Curtis's successes and inventions. It's a shame more people aren't aware of his airplane successes to alargerdegree.

Nice museum

Cool small museum. Offered more than expected. Hidden gem in the finger lakes. It's better for adults than children but they do offer a scavenger hunt for children. Staff are very friendly. Make a point to talk to the airplane repair volunteers.

worth the effort

This is a history lesson everyone should see . It takes you back to be beginning of the 1900 when motorcycles, boats, plains and cars were first being developed. it helps you understand that this great county was about and how it all started

More and less than expected...

As an aeronautical aficionado, I've been wanting to stop at this museum for decades. A recent drive through the Finger Lakes region facilitated a "brief" stop at the museum. I anticipated stopping for possibly an hour but two hours later, there was still more to be seen ( and we deliberately skipped the 45 minute movie because we wanted a fast stop). There's much to see and experience, especially Glenn Curtis's early bicycling, motor cycling and rarely flying days. There's even his roof-top office rebuilt in the museum. My partner, reluctant to stop, enjoyed the time as much as I did, especially exhibits depicting early 20th century life in the area. I deducted one star as most of the flying machines exhibited were reconstructions as the originals have been lost over time.

Glenn H Curtiss, Serial entrepreneur to rival 21st century counterparts!

Serial entrepreneur Glenn H Curtiss was surely a visionary, maybe an Elon Musk of a century ago. The museum dedicated to his life in bicycles, motorcycles and airplanes showcase this one man’s brilliance. Located in beautiful Hammondsport at the southern end of Lake Keuka ,one of New York’s famous finger lakes, the museum is a perfect size for a couple of hours for the whole family.

Not needed

When we arrived we learned there's a senior admissions rate that's less than these tickets. We were the only ones out of several dozen visitors that day who were dumb enough to pay this higher price.

Our second visit here

Enjoyed this museum so much that this time we brought friends. Definitely watch the movie first, then move on to the museum. Again enjoyed looking at all the vehicles housed here. Don't miss it!

Interesting and enlightening

Did you know that Glenn Curtis set a land speed record of more than 136 mph on a motorcycle in 1907? Or that he set a long distance flight record of 150 miles in 1910? I had heard of Glenn Curtis but didn’t realize what a prolific and brilliant inventor he was. Watch the movie to see the story progress. He trained the first American female pilot. The first take off and landing on a ship were accomplished in a Curtis aircraft. The Curtis Wright engine was very important to air warfare. The museum has an extensive collection of innovations in transportation; bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles, a travel trailer, a few boats, some reconstructed planes, and many plane models (not desk-sized ) above your head. Interesting and enlightening.

Well Worth the Visit

Very interesting museum with large collection of engines, early airplanes, and motorcycles. I would highly recommend watching the introductory film (about 30 minutes) which really brings the collection to life.
