Our family had a fantastic experience with the night boat tour of the mangrove swamps. Our guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and blew us away with their ability to find animals which were sometimes hard for us to spot even when we knew exactly where to look. We saw bats, raccoons, caymans and crocodiles, and more – even a potoo! The van picked us up from the hotel right on time, and after the boat tour we were taken to a small local restaurant, where we had an excellent and authentic dinner at a soda in Quepos.

Great way too spend a night in Costa Rica

Fun nighttime excursion

Joseph was a great guide and very educational. He had a great eye for finding animals and teaching about them. He made sure the mobility-impaired member of our group was okay.

Lots of critters!

Saw everything that was promised - great way to wrap up our visit to Costa Rica! Even got a sloth. (And BYO headlamp meant we saw even more stuff!)

Well organised trip with knowledgable guide

The trip was very well organised with pickup and return to the hotel. Our tour guide was entertaining and very knowledgeable about the different animals that were spotted along the route. Dinner was okay, but we weren’t necessary too fussed about this part.

Unique and interesting experience

Very unique and interesting tour! Guides were super nice and showed us a variety of snakes, lizards, frogs, birds and animals at night. So amazing to see them at night. Quite a few of them sleeping/resting on the tree branches. Costa Rica is so amazing ! Wildlife is so sacred and protected here.

Lots of critters!

Armando was excellent! So knowledgeable and great at spotting animals. Tons of birds and lizards. Definitely a super cool way to see night wildlife!

Awesome night tour!

Amazing tour!!! We saw so many animals, even boas! Kenneth helped us get perfect pictures of all of them. Really fun and felt very safe even though it was at night.

The boat tour was...

The boat tour was interesting and the guide and captain did a great job identifying animals and giving everyone a chance to see. We saw two snakes, lots of sleeping birds, bats, and caiman. The negatives were the drive time to pickup other passengers and late dinner. My kids were already carsick after the 40 min drive (2 more stops for pickups) that by the time we got in the boat they were miserable. We also ended up sitting in the back and the engine exhaust made things worse. We got to dinner at 8:40 (a casual cafeteria-style buffet restaurant), which was also late for my kids. Apparently mine weren’t alone as the only two other kids on the trip ended up taking a taxi to their hotel from the restaurant because they weren’t feeling well either. The total number in our tour was 12 people.

Fantastic time!

We had a fantastic time during the tour. Kenneth was knowledgeable and we were able to spot kamen, different kinds of birds, snake, crab, frogs lizards and iguanas.

Kenneth is amazing!!

Kenneth did a fantastic job finding dozens of cool wildlife and he was very knowledgeable about everything there was to see. There are many night tour options in Manuel Antonio but this one was hands down the best!!

I'd skip this one.

Boat was too loud to hear the guide. The boat canopy prevented us from seeing the wildlife. Meal was so so. The tour felt too touristy. Not a good value for seeing wildlife. Pickup was 15 minutes late.

Bare bones - Wouldn't recommend

This experience was just okay, and at times unpleasant. We were under the impression the tour would take 3 hrs. We spent 1 hrs in the bus, 2 hrs on the boat, 45 min at dinner, and another 40 or so minutes in the bus. For the price I would have expected better communication and some basic amenities offered on the boat such as water. My wife had to take the last seat available, which had a puddle of water in it. No effort was made to wipe up the puddle with a rag, so she was sitting in water for 2 hrs.

OK, but could have been better

The tour itself was good, our guide’s English skills were a bit lacking, so asking specific questions about what we were seeing wasn’t an option. The staff were very helpful and I have no idea how they spotted some of the things they did. Honestly, I felt we saw more on a previous nighttime jungle walk - but if mobility is an issue this is a great option.

Nice evening filling program

Kenneth did a great job in finding all kind of animals in the dark. The mangrove forest was amazing in the dark. The food afterward was a bit disappointing.

Great and unique tour

Dereck was a wonderful tour guide! He was very knowledgeable and quite funny! Both Jario and Dereck were so quick to find animals and provide information about them. The dinner is an after the tour, so don’t go too hungry. The food is substantial and delicious.

Tour guides were great, but I'm not a fan of the night tour (feels like a zoo)

I'll start by saying that the guides Kenneth and the captain of the boat (whose name I can't remember) were awesome. They did a great job, doing their job; however, of all the tours I've done in CR, this one was my least favorite - by which I mean, the concept of the night tour, which many companies do. Reason being, it felt like more of a zoo experience because we were shining bright lights on these animals in the dark, and getting up super close to take pics, which they may not have appreciated. At least with the other tours, there's more distance with the animals so you don't feel like such an annoying voyeur (see picture of snake I took as annoying voyeur, lol). I read that there would be flashlights prior to, but I personally didn't love the experience once I did it; this is not a reflection of the company but rather, the concept of the night tour.

Knowledge guide, great tour

Guillermo was an accommodating and knowledgeable guide. It was amazing how he could spot small birds and lizards in the jungle while narrating what we were looking at. Thank you for a delightful tour.

Great boat tour!

Our guide was Anderson and he was extremely knowledgable, and him and the captain of the boat always had their eye out for anything we could see, which was greatly appreciated. We saw amazing animals and had a nice dinner afterwards, and felt very safe the whole time. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area!

Super talented guides and lots of fun!

Rodolfo was very welcoming, knowledgeable and a good laugh! Super impressed by how good the guides are at spotting even the most obscure of wildlife. I would go again!

Nighttime Mangrove Tour

Awesome tour! The guides were excellent at spotting and pointing out wildlife.Incredible to see this ecosystem in the dark and all of the creatures in it.

Mangrove Tour Review

We got lucky seeing 3 sloths and 2 were on the move! We saw a few cool birds, cayman, bats, Jesus Lizards and iguanas. Dinner was after the tour around 8:45 and had good options. The guide was accommodating and his young boy came along who was funny. The hotel pickup was 15 minutes late. It was difficult to see sights from under the canopy of the boat. The laser pointer is more distracting than helpful and the guide's commentary was tricky to discern with the outboard cranking into reverse so often.

Mangrove tour was great!

We had a fantastic tour, saw lots of fun and exciting animals like boa constrictors caymans iguanas and lots of birds. We even saw three baby raccoons sleeping in a pile in a tree it was adorable. Good dinner included we had a great time.

Great experience full of atmosphere

Fantastic experience, just the ride on the boat at night in itself was a lovely experience. Anderson - our guide - was very friendly and knowledgeable and both him and the captain had incredible eyes to spot animals. Good fun.

Great time

This was an awesome tour. Byron was our guide and was super informative. We got to see all kinds of things including kinkajou, potoo, bats, jesus lizards, etc.

Great experience!

Byron was amazing! He has such great excitement and enthusiasm when he finds these creatures/animals. We saw a kinkajou and a common potoo which was super cool! We also saw a really venemous snake as well. We got really lucky this trip. Food was also really good. Highly recommend.

Night tour fun

Anderson was an amazing tour guide!! Very informative and fun! 😁 We saw snakes, tons of birds, sloths, opposums, and raccoons!

Enjoyable experience

We took this tour with Kenneth, he was a really knowledgeable guide and the boat driver was also great at spotting things we would never have seen. We saw green iguanas, a boa, Racoon, a sleeping sloth, hunter spider and was especially excited to see a Fer-de-lance! We have done a few night tours and the mangrove tours are unique. The dinner was really good too!

Don’t spend your money for that tour

Very expensive for what it is. The guide was very nice but I don’t think it’s worth the money. Especially when I was charged twice because the website had a problem. I asked for the refund of one of the payment and still didn’t receive anything. I went to jade tour office and they said they cannot do anything and I have to write to Viator. The food was so so. Kind of cafeteria and we had the choice between 2 different drinks… 150$ for two is too expensive for that. I did 3 tours since I am in Costa Rica and that the only one I think didn’t worth it.

Awesome Night Tour and Great Dinner!

Awesome Tour!! Kenneth made sure that everyone got fantastic photos of all of the wildlife, and there was much to see! Dinner after the tour was a great local spot! Definitely recommend this tour. Notes: Dinner was after the tour so don’t arrive hungry! River is very gently so those that get mildly seasick shouldn’t have an issue!

Many animals at night

Great experience with Kennith, saw more animals at night than during the day in the national park. They make sure you get a good chance to take a night photo.

Awesome animals! Snakes galore! Good times.Kenneth was sweet and informative. There is beauty in nature at night. Great meal afterwards. And flashlights are there with guide.

Fun boat tour

The boat tour was fun and we saw lots of wildlife. This experience was at someone's house and it was a bit chaotic so we were a little unsure when we first showed up but it ended up being a good time.

Night at the Mangrove forest!

Night tours are a good addition for activities! We enjoyed a different Wildlife experience than during the daytime with experienced staff's guide. We go to dinner local restaurant which hearty and locally favorite after the tour.

Exciting night mangrove boat safari experience

The views were amazing. I took some pictures, but our fantastic tour guide, Elias was able to capture wonderful pictures and videos which he shared with all of us. The boat captain was brilliant. Elias was excellent at spotting the birds and animals, and in explaining their habits. The slight disappointment that I had was that we couldn’t find an owl or a crocodile. Other than that we had a fabulous experience and the opportunity to learn and see a lot of unique creatures that live in this habitat.

Worthwhile Experience!

It was awesome! I’m so glad I got to see a whole new species of animals that I never would have seen outside of the tour. Elias was an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable.

Unforgettable animal encounters

Wow. What a tour. It was super surreal to be sailing down the mangroves, looking at animals in their natural habitat, ones that I had only seen in zoos before. Elias was super enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and I appreciate how he wanted us to make sure we saw everything to our satisfaction. Pura vida ❤️🤍💙

Beautiful Night Tour Through the Mangrove with Enderson

Such a fun experience boating through the Mangrove with Enderson. The Bus Picked us up directly from our hotel and took us to the river to start our tour. Enderson was our tour guide and he was knowledgeable and friendly. He knew everything about the different plants, animals, and insects. The boat ride was beautiful and exciting. We saw a sloth, tons of birds, caymans, snakes, bats, spiders, and iguanas. I would definitely recommend booking this experience.

Saw lots of birds, snakes, lizards and animals including raccoons, sloth and a kinkajou. Rodolfo the guide was very knowledgeable and great at spotting wildlife. The mangrove forest is beautiful at night. Had dinner at a local casado restaurant which was very good. Glad we went on this tour!

Our guide, Derek, was so friendly and knowledgeable! We saw some great things out on the boat, including a caiman, several birds & frogs, and the highlight was seeing a Fer-de-lance! Dinner afterwards was fantastic as well! We would do this again!

An amazing tour and guide

Byron was the most amazing guide. He could find a needle in the haystack. We saw amazing animals and learned so much. He gets so excited about finding nature and wildlife. Gerardo was also an amazing boat captain.

Byron gave us an awesome tour of the mangrove. He was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about both the plants and wildlife of an incredible unique environment, he answered all our questions and spotted so many special specimens for us!!
