Dinosaur Canyon Experience Tour

Good visit

We were here in 2020 and they were building new exhibits so we had to come back to check them out. They have an undercover dinosaur stampede area which was a bit disappointing after our visit to Lark Quarry stampede which has much more detail in the footsteps of the dinosaurs. The staff member we had on our tour was a bit abrupt. All is all is still very good place to visit.

Great day out for all ages

This was a fascinating day. The Fossil Workshop showing a bit of history of the finds and actually watching the people cleaning the fossils. Tennyson gave a comprehensive talk on further history and fossils found to date. Daniel then drove us to the Dinosaur Canyon. All tour guides were excellent. We found the 4 hours very interesting & informative. Better than what I thought. Great day out. Highly recommend.

A disappointing experience.

Although we were greeted on arrival by staff member Peter who was most helpful our tour was not the greatest experience. The tour guide requires further training on delivering the tour, we did the 9.45 March of the Titanosaurs tour. As the narrative of the tour ran over time there was no time left to visit the canyon, to see the bones, statues and for the tracings etc that we were told would be possible. The tour guide needs further support in learning time management to prevent a disappointing experience as she too kept saying we would have free time after she finished to see everything. Very disappointing, we do not recommend visiting as the time, effort, and expense that it takes to get there could be better spent on different experiences around Winton.

Pretty interesting and worth a look

So it’s an interesting way to spend an hour or two and provides some really informative information about the landscape 95 million years ago. At times it’s a little slow paced and probably not ideal for smaller kids unless they’re really into dinosaurs. The valley walk was kind of cool. Expensive and it would be nice to be able to do parts of the experience at a lower rate perhaps.good though.

Informative and interesting tours. Well worth visiting if interested in dinosaurs. The younger children were spellbound.

Worth the visit - Winton Dinosaur Capital of Australia VIP multi-day pass

We bought the two attractions, Winton Dinosaur Capital of Australia VIP multi-day pass. The Age of the Dinosaur tour was educational, that included the lab, the fossils and the Canyon. We found it enjoyable and were able to ask lots of questions. A plus was during the school holiday the kids can fill out a treasure hunt book that also entertained them. Worth the visit

Must see - Excellent days learning

amazing. World class. Allow best part of a whole day. Did not realize the extent of dinosaurs in Australia. These guys doing amazing things relying on paid entry and donations as prime source of funds. A must see for everyone.

Beautifully integrated into the landscape

The Ultimate Dinosaur Tour included the Collection Room, Fossil Preparation Laboratory, the March of the Titanosaurs exhibition and a self-guided walk of Dinosaur Canyon and took 3-4 hours. The shuttle bus from reception to the March of the Titanosaurs exhibition is fun, the exhibition was good, but it is not in-situ which detracts from it slightly - but you definitely appreciate the work it took to get it there and seeing the footprints was very cool. The Dinosaur Canyon walk is a bit of fun looking for the dinosaurs, but the views are simply breath taking and the walk is very well done. Shuttle bus back to reception and then I would suggest talking the short walk to the Fossil Preparation room as it gives you some more stunning views. This area was very interesting but a little crowded with a full tour. The short film and the collection room was also very good. Beautiful view from reception where there is a cafe and heaps of picnic tables under shade on top of the Jump Up.

Dinosaur heaven

Great day with the dinosaurs. We did the 3 options available. The bone cleaning shed was “real”. The main building furthered the information. And the buggy ride to the “run” finished it off. Then we could walk down into the canyon. That topped off an amazing experience.

Amazing Experience in Winton

My husband and I visited the Australian Age of Dinosaurs for a complete tour of all facilities. It was very impressive what has been built and preserved. The staff were excellent, knowledgeable and passionate. Would highly recommend.

Blast from the past

It's mind blowing to think that the evidence of the dinosaurs dates back 95 million years. The Canyon tour is good, the tour guide points out the dinosaur footprints and provides explanations of the findings.The dinosaur displays are good and the short walk into the canyon is very easy. The tour provides water and sunscreen if you happen to forget it. Worth visiting if you are at Winton

Awe inspiring

Loved it!! The setting is stunning. The architecture is sublime. The footprints are awe inspiring. The tour guides are so enthusiastic. This place is a must see

An amazing experience back in time.

We did the experience broken up into 3 tours. First is the fossil preparation laboratory, where you see fossils and bones and learn how they are exposed and cleaned. Second is a short film, and you see bones from 4 dinosaurs along with a guide's explanation. Lastly is a guided tour of the March of the Titanosaurs exhibition and then free time to walk the dinosaur canyon.

Really fun and informative - great facilities and staff have excellent presentations showcasing the work that is being done. This will only get better - I’ll be back!

Very Informative and well presented

We took three tours, the Collection Room, the Fossil Preparation Laboratory and the Dinosaur Canyon which included the dinosaur tracks. The tours were well organized and informative. The only thing that could be improved is not to rush everyone through so quickly to allow more time to look at the exhibits. Overall very good facilities and exhibits. Highly recommend.

So Dissapointing

ABSOLUTE RIP OFF!!!!! Strongly do not recommend. $200 for a family pass for a self guided walk looking at bronze dinosaurs and a lady chatting about footprints. we left before the last fossil lab tour because they leave an hour between tours for the obvious reason to spend money on their gift shop and cafe. After 7.5months of travel round australia this is the most disappointing day we have had to date. never felt so ripped off.

Bones and footprints are just that, it's the quality of the guiding that makes this experience truly special

We did the ultimate experience and were really glad we did. We learnt so much, and it was great to see all aspects of the important work that this museum is doing. All of the guides we had were outstanding - generous and informative.

Dinosaur land

Learning that here on our own doorstep has been the discovery of dinosaur fossils is an amazing experience. Our tour guide Sarah showed her passion for the discovery of Dinosaurs throughout our time in her company. We saw a display in the Fossil room along with a video of how David Elliot discovered the first bone. Next it was to the March of the Titanosaurs where we saw footprints preserved in the mud. Sarah described how this area was moved from its original site into this building so the footprints could be preserved as out in the elements they would be lost forever. You could then go on the 300 - 400m walk along Dinosaur Canyon viewing the various species in their 'natural habitat . All are life size recreations. Looking out over the area towards Winton. Our last stop of the tour was the Lab where you saw the 'pods' that had fossil bones inside. You got to see people working on recovering the fossils. This trip is a must see.

Well worth a visit

This is a very interesting place. We were fortunate to be able to see the newly opened exhibition and Dinosaur Canyon. The tour times are arranged so that you have time to take a short walk or have a coffee in between. The staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. While this can be seen stand alone, it really is worth being able to do both Age of Dinosaurs and Lark Quarry (the dinosaur stampede).

Die Tour war trotz der rund 3h sehr interessant und kurzweilig. Wir besuchten zunächst das Präparationscenter, hatten danach einen Vortrag im Museum und sind schlussendlich mit dem Bus zur Stampede gefahren. Man konnte während/nach den Vorträgen Fragen stellen, ein gutes Englisch bzw. einige Vorkenntnisse sind vorteilhaft.
