Daintree Discovery Centre

Daintree Discovery Centre is a must do for every tourist and local.Set in the oldest rainforest in the world ,it is worth a whole day of exploring,learning and immersing in an ancient beautiful lush rainforest.The 23 meter canopy tower and aerial walkway gives you a birds eye view with sightings of native birds ,butterflies,if lucky even a cassowary.The audio tour and the booklet is very informative and gives you a great appreciation of this amazing part of the world.The staff are very welcoming and helpful,so much so that I ended up with a very flat tyre lucky for me Pete one of the guides changed my tyre in the RAIN .Where would you get that customer service ? Thanks Pete for saving the day I owe you a slab of Great Northern,you're a legend.

Absolutely amazing...but pricey

Absolutely amazing set up and experience, and worth making the time and effort for. You learn heaps about the Daintree Rainforest with the recording devices they have there and all the info boards. It is terribly overpriced; entry fees, food and drinks though. It is very tourist targeted, meaning a coffee is expensive!

Terrible. Overpriced for what is on offer.

Was up there recently. $78 for both of us. I am unclear how you can charge this much. It is not value for money. It might be educational and informative for a bus load of primary school kids but not for adults. More can be achieved on your own trek. No need to reply.

Appalling animal welfare and way to overpriced considering they dont look after there animals.

For $40 each its ridiculously overpriced when you could do one of the free walks further on. I am also disgusted that even with that high price for entry all of the reptile enclosures were disgusting with fecals (poo) in almost everyone and most had no access to water due to it being empty let alone the enclosures overalll set up. Seeing as snakes dont eat every day let alone weekly it suggests that they have not even been checked on or cared for for at lest a week. For a place that prides itself on connecting to the rainforest this is appalling welfare and standards. Woud not go here and i will never be going back. Unfortunately didnt think to get photos.

Must do Daintree

Admired the layout, the dedication of the centre to conservation, and the rainforest itself. The walkways are amazing. Staff at the centre were helpful and courteous. The audio and the hard copy booklet are both really well designed, and informative.

Well worth the trip

This rainforest is a truly amazing place - the discovery centre is full of Information and you go at your own pace. Sitting in the 23m tower among the canopy is a great feeling. Enjoyable to visit.

A bit pricey but worth it for those who like nature and a wealth of information on the area.

The treetop walking structures well well maintained and the tower was a marvel to climb. There is a dinosaur section for kids. The audio tour was very informative but also very 1990s and I felt like the center itself has also not been upgraded since the 90s. Loved the lush green Forrest and I’m glad we came here before doing the boardwalks as it helped connect the sights to some of the heritage and knowledge of the area

Great chance to view the Daintree rainforest canopy

Amazing to walk through the Daintree canopy and learn about the ecology with the audio tour and signs. Would definately recomend if you're in the Daintree.

Do not miss this! Excellent, interesting, educational for all ages

We spent a few awesome hours working our way through the many educational moments on this walking tour. So much time, knowledge and work has been put into this place to make it engaging, educational and accessible for all ages. Big umbrellas available if it's raining, but the rain makes it feel like a real wet tropical experience! Terrific value for money. Allow a minimum of two hours, but preferably longer, to see and engage with everything. Do not miss this!

A Gem in the Daintree

We arrived on a rainy morning & were greeted by welcoming staff. After they explained all that there was to see at the Centre, we paid & armed with Centre umbrellas, we headed off to see everything on offer in the area. Our favorite parts were the boardwalks & the canopy tower. What fantastic views!! After we finished seeing everything we could on offer, we headed back to the coffee shop & enjoyed a great coffee. The staff were just lovely! Before we headed off, we asked for some advice about where to visit next. In all, we're so glad that we made the Centre a central part of our visit to the Daintree. There is so much to learn & staff who are happy to help in any way.

daintree discovery centre is without doubt one of the first places you should visit when visiting the daintree. there is so much to learn and experience from our astounding ancient rainforest and the discovery centre provides knowledge, experience and a wealth of information for visitors to access while walking above the forest floor, leaving it untouched and pristine.

A unique way of viewing the Daintree

Well maintained, easy walking, very informative with great flora. The raised walking platform gave a unique perspective of the Daintree. You were up over the canopy after climbing up the canopy tower and could see across the top of the forest.

A definite must when visiting the Daintree.

An excellent experience. I hadn't originally planned to visit the centre on my day in the Daintree but decided to do so. It was definitely the correct decision. The boardwalk is excellent, as is the information booklet that is included in the admission price. The signs along the boardwalk as very informative as are the displays. It is worth climbing to the top of the observations tower, stopping at each level as this is where you can see the various layers of the rainforest. A definite must when visiting the Daintree.

Well worth a visit

We enjoyed our few hours here. The setting is amazing and the audio information was really interesting. The staff were very friendly.

Daintree canopy walk

Very tired animal housing displays and different to see what’s on display. Walking track are Not really suitable for us who have mobility issues. To see over the canopy you’ll need to climb 100+ stairs :-( . Price of $47 is well over priced. Surrendering of the Guide Booklet is very good. Car parking is minimal.

Informative place in nature

As a less mobile older person I found the activities available to me not as useful as certainly anyone mobile enough for steps, once I had slowly walked to the next section along the raised boardwalk there wasn’t much for me to do. Yes there are great info visuals. My younger friend loved the tower and walkways but I was at the end of the day and probably would, just as well appreciated the coffee and cake in the cafe. Friendly and helpful staff however. If your knees have had it …stay in the cafe ! Informative place however.

Bucket list stuff - excellent experience

Whilst smaller than expected, the Centre is popular with families of all ages, on the day we visited. Armed with an easy to use audio tour and separate booklet to describe other features, we took our time wandering around the raised metal walkways through the Daintree forest. A good cafe and souvenir shop is at the entrance to the Centre, along with bathroom facilities. Car parking is ample outside with motorhomes around the corner.

Heaps to learn if you listen to the audio and read the info

I enjoyed the walk, with the audio tour - particularly the indigenous speaker on audio. The historical information was fascinating, especially about the giant animals. I enjoyed seeing the cassowaries and the fig. It is not large area but you learn a lot.

An absolute must do!

An absolute must do before you do any walks in the Daintree to enhance what you are about to see. So much information there to take in by various means. Most will enjoy listening to the recorded messages however you can also read the signage to gain more information. Even if you think you know a fair bit about rainforests, bush tucker, aboriginal culture, our planet’s history and much more you will still learn heaps there.. You are even given the opportunity to revisit for free if you fill in back page of a small booklet you are given if endorsed by staff before you leave. I did just that and arrived 2 days later at opening time 8:30am to be on my own for much of the time. Loved it all learnt so much.

The centre is really old and dated

The centre is really old and dated, only a short 15 minute walk through. Might be good for kid excursions but I much preferred the free and beautiful long boardwalk nearby. I woudn't bother going here again.

Fascinating!

The discovery centre was absolutely fascinating. Heaps of information presented in an accessible and interesting manner. The tower is a great way of seeing the different layers of the rainforest. We went back twice (you can use the same ticket on up to 7 consecutive days) because there’s so much to see and learn. Highly recommended.

Daintree Discovery Centre - not to be missed!

The oldest rainforest in the world! The board walk made it easy to access different levels of the forest and the view from the tower was well worth the climb. The dinosaur section was a great hit with both the kids and adults. Especially the ones which moved - the kids were enthralled.

Must see

From start to finish this was a great experience. We were able to visit over 2 days on our pass so could take our time. The audio guide was excellent, including the bird calls. The information booklet is very comprehensive & will continue to be useful as we drive on to Cooktown. All in all a top spot.

Daintree the 130 millions year old rain forest!

A trip to North Queensland would be complete without a visit to the Daintree - the oldest rain forest in the world. It may not be as exciting as Hartley’s crocodile farm, but it gives you a perspective of how short one’s life is, compared to a 130 million years forest! The board walk takes you to different levels of the forest. The tower gives you the view from the top. The cafeteria offers basic snacks. The ticket includes self-guided audio commentaries.

Great stop in the Daintree

Had a great visit to the discovery centre, really helpful staff and informative and enjoyable experience. It was great to see some of the rainforest animals and get a good view from the tower.

Amazing way to spend a morning

We loved this place, spent all morning here! The coffee was amazing, walks were great and the staff are all informative and friendly. Would highly recommend!

Look elsewhere get a guided tour through the rainforest elsewhere

A lot of money to not really experience the Daintree. It’s just a self guided walk around trees and a creek. No animals to see, couple of snakes to see that’s about all.

Great place to start your daintree adventure

Well organised and friendly staff, super child friendly offering our toddler a fake audio tour so he felt included. A number of different boardwalks and things to see- the dinosaurs were a highlight for our toddler- while the price is a little high it ia understood this is to promote conservation activites so happy to pay the higher cost.

WASTE OF TIME

Terrible...WASTE OF MONEY..$37 a bit steep for what you get...nothing..just walk around in their bit of forest which you could do anywhere..you walk in the canopy but no animals to be seen

Overpriced - don’t recommend

The Daintree Discovery Centre was overpriced!!!! It cost me and my partner nearly $80 to visit. Before entering the centre we thought we would be able to grab a few maps, guides and trail advice but none of this is available until you have paid to enter the discovery centre. The treetop walk isn’t as good as all the other FREE trails on offer throughout the rainforest (Jindalba trail is awesome and accessible from the same car park). It was also very disappointing to see snakes on display in small tanks, I would rather see them in the wild or not at all. We would have been happier paying a park entry fee of $20 or so that goes towards the conservation of the rainforest. Wouldn’t recommend visiting.

Over-priced and disappointing

We visited here about 15 years ago and thought it was a great experience. Unfortunately nothing has been spent on this centre for about 20 years and the experience is dated and needs a major uplift. Tickets for a family of 4 were $90 which was expensive and over-priced for what we experienced.

Good experience just not worth $37 per adult. I would recommend skipping a stop into this centre and continue travelling up to C

I felt that $37 per person was a little extreme for the experience, I would say if it was $20 per person it would be worthwhile visiting. I wouldn't say don't visit this centre however if you are budget conscious I would advise to spend your money elsewhere on a river cruise or a nice lunch. You could skip the stop into the centre and continue travelling up to Cape Tribulation where you can stop at the nice lookouts and a few of the walks and get the same experience as visiting this centre. The staff were friendly and gave us great I formation for the rest of the day which was great.

Wonderful and fulfilling experience

This is one of the best eco-tourism places I have visited. A VERY informative self-guided tour (complete with recorded commentary that you do at your own pace) gives you an appreciation of the enormity and wonder of this ancient rainforest. We spent 2 and a half hours here going through the tour and walking on the boardwalk - as we wanted to take it all in. There are constant improvements being made to this attraction, as I noticed a lot of changes compared to my last visit many years ago. I look forward to visiting again sometime in the future when I'm up in FNQ again.

Fantastic Introduction to the Daintree

Before making our way around the Daintree and Cape Tribulation, we stopped in here for the self guided rainforest walk. The handy audio tour was fantastic because we could take it at our own pace, but also because it gave us fantastic insights to the Kuku Yalangi people (traditional owners of the land) and their common practices for native flora. The Aboriginal interpretations were a great way to connect with Indigenous culture and I wish there was more of this along the NQLD tourism strip. The staff were really friendly to my friend and I and clearly have a deep respect for the land they operate on. Everything was well maintained and professional.

Something you just can’t miss

Loved our self guided tour through the amazing Daintree Rainforest. Facilities and displays were great for adults and children alike. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Huge call out to Luke who went above and beyond to retrieve my glasses from the rainforest floor after I dropped them from the sky walk. Thank you so much. Would thoroughly recommend the centre as the perfect starting point for your Daintree Rainforest experience

Expensive for what it is

Quite a short boardwalk with many people paused while listening to the audio-tour, blocking the way. The tower has a very good view. Model dinosaurs throughout the bush which are great for kids, but again, meant people were blocking the walkway to take photos making social distancing very difficult.

An amazing experience.

What a most professional experience to visit this rain forest - 100 million years in the making. Go explore before someone in power goes and chops it down for a resort! Hopefully not. Enthusiastic staff and you walk among, below and above the rainforest. A must for any person visiting the area.

A beautiful magical place

A beautiful magical place! A lot of thought and effort has been put into creating and maintaining this centre and it is well worth visiting. There is a small cafe to enjoy coffee and food in the most beautiful natural surroundings. COVID hygiene measures are well implemented. Thank you to the team for maintaining this centre. The dinosaurs were hugely enjoyed by both children and parents!

Expensive

Overpriced, better to stick to the free walking tracks for the same experience, unless you are specifically seeking an audio guided tour with in-depth biology talks.

Daintree Rainforest experience

The staff were extremely helpful and the rainforest and the recording assisted walking tour just perfect. We loved every second of our experience. Highly recommend the scones with native plum jam and cream at the end.

Enjoying Walking Through a Tropical Jungle

Walking along the many boardwalks in company with century old trees. Many storyboards along the way as well. Truly felt like being in a tropical jungle, which is is of course. The moving dinosaur made me jump - LOL. Fabulous for everyone to visit, especially families.

Wonderful family day escaping the heat!

My family and I had a wonderful time exploring the Daintree (Discovery Centre). So much information and a really enjoyable way to spend 2-3hrs in all the different layers of the rainforest. My daughter 14months loved looking at the trees/butterflies/birds/fish and snakes. It was an added bonus of being able to escape the heat of the day. (Our visit was in Late October 2020) We took a packed lunch and had it half way up the 23m canopy tower! Had a great time, worth the money!

The tower was my favourite and the whole forest walk and all the information and look out and staff.

Get an idea how small we are in the greater scheme

Had no idea what to expect but this is a world class experience. We did the audio tour and found that very informative. The boardwalk through the canopy was amazing and standing on the tower overlooking the rain forest gives a bit of perspective on how vast it is. I was expecting it to take about half an hour but we spent over two hours. There is just so much to see and learn about.

Not a deal breaker if you are short on time or money

Really informative, lovely walk through the boardwalk and treetop canopies. The audio tour was very good. It was a touch expensive though. $90 for a family pass for what was effectively a rainforest walk. There are equally as nice ones to be done for free in the numerous national parks. It also has a touch of that school outing feel and I imagine that local schools definitely would end up here for excursions. It was nice but I wouldn't go out of my way to stop if you are short on time or money.

Beautiful Daintree

My husband and I had a wonderful afternoon walking along the boardwalks that took us through the Rainforest and looking at all the amazing plants and wildlife. We followed the audio-tour which was very informative - especially liked the indigenous perspectives and details. We loved stopping and breathing in the calmness and beauty that is the unique Daintree Rainforest. We enjoyed the climb to the top of the tower to take in the awesome view of the canopy and listen to the birds. The whole Discovery Centre was excellent - should be on everybody's list of must-dos in Far North Queensland.

Informative rainforest Information and Preservation

I loved the Canopy Walk and the tracks through the rainforest. The audio-tour was exceptional. Kids will love this place. The coffee was good too. I really appreciate the time and attention to detail that staff have invested in this centre. It's more than a tourist destination, if you want to understand the Daintree's unique qualities visit the Daintree Discovery Centre.

A must when in the Daintree

Our visit to the Discovery Centre was the highlight of our time in the Daintree. The staff was wonderful and they take COVID safety seriously. We spent a couple of hours there and could easily have spent more if we had the time. The various walks through the magnificent rain forrest brought the area to life. We really enjoyed the included audio tour and the zoological exhibits. We returned the following morning for our morning coffee and were rewarded with seeing a cassowary in the carpark! The coffee and cake were good too!
