A great bit of Gold History

It was very interesting and informative to visit the Venus Battery. The guide was very knowledgeable and told us the history and how the battery worked. It enhanced our visit to Charters Towers.

Gold Mill tour

Got an understanding of the gold mine history of CT. The tour guide was so knowledgeable and the tour had some suprises that were amazing.

A must do tour 👍🏻

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, John was very knowledgeable & informative with the history however we thought it ended too quickly , only 50 minutes when the tour was meant to be an hour & 15 minutes. Throughly enjoyed the holograph displays , that was a highlight ! Would definitely recommend visiting 👍🏻

The guide was knowledgeable, able to answer questions. Was well worth a visit. It opened the eyes to what was happening back in the days of the goold rush

Interesting

It was an interesting experience. We enjoyed the two hologram shows and hearing about how gold was extracted from the rock. Our guide for the day however looked like he would have preferred to be somewhere else and made comment in a belittling way to a couple of questions raised during the tour. Not good

Knowledgeable and interesting presentation. Well worth taking the time to see this presentation and learning more about the history of the region.

Venus Battery tour, worth a look.

John gave us an interesting tour depicting the history of gold in Charters Towers. He was very knowledgeable as had himself worked in mines for many years.

A very interesting step back in time

Thought we would fill a afternoon in and check out the old gold battery Well l learnt a bit today and from the time the tour started until it finished l was impressed. The tour guide was a character he’s definitely in the right job quick witted and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this to everyone traveling through Charters Towers

Very informative and interesting tour.

Our group of eight (4 adults, 4 children) really enjoyed this tour. John, our guide, explained things thoroughly and involved the children. He is clearly very knowledgeable about the battery and mining in general, but his commentary was simple enough for the children to mostly understand, and stay ibterested, while at the same time he could answer in-depth, questions from the adults. We found the tour very interesting.

Step back in time

The tour guide was excellent and knew his stuff. It was a shame that it no longer operates as a demo. Well worth the effort.

Don't waste your time

Terrible, says it was supposed to be open so we went out there and it was shut on Friday. Charters towers has a lot going for it however there tourism certainly isn't one of them

Highly informative tour

It was a very interesting insight into how the gold was extracted from the rock and ore. It was a long and very noisy process that really was a very onerous job. John the guide was excellent and a wealth of knowledge of the processes involved and of local history. Take the tour it is well worth it.

Seeing behind the scenes of finding gold

Found this tour absolutely fascinating. It gave you such a great insight and behind the scenes of the hard life behind the discovery of gold. I was able to see where my great, great grandfather and his brother would of brought their rocks to be crushed, to exract the gold, such a hard life! There was a visual interaction story telling, and John was accommodating answering our questions through the tour, and has an amazing wealth of knowledge. Make sure to book online or at the information centre for the tour. Anyone interested in history, gold and of the local region needs to do this tour. So delighted and pleased we had the opportunity to visit.

Hidden Gem

The tour was very informative & interesting. Our tour guide was happy to answer any questions our group had (regardless of how silly they might have been). I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Charters Towers as you won't leave disappointed.

The tour was so informative and the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. He was happy to answer any questions and was patient when I was off reading the information plaques. I would absolutely recommend this tour if you are in the area.

Great fgold tour

Watching the holographic displays was really good and informative. John was an incredible tour guide. His knowledge was expansive and he spoke in an informative and expert manner all with some good humour thrown in.

Worth a visit

Easy to book online. Very interesting and informative tour. Modern presentation using holographic images. When car troubles delayed us, they were very accommodating about rescheduling our visit.

A Gem To Be Preserved

The battery workings are a real gem & together with the holographic videos & enthusiastic commentry by our guide, Alan, showed the actual equipment used in the arduous gold extraction process & recreated the environment that those involved endured. The tour certainly made our visit to Charters Towers a memorable one.

Worth the visit

The guide was informative and relaxed. Learnt a lot about the gold mining history of Charters Towers. A pity the battery cannot be run anymore due to OHS rules.

A terrific attraction

This is a great insight into Charters Towers Gold history. The Battery is an amazing building in itself and John's knowledge and personal interest in the building makes his commentary all the more informative. This is a must-see attraction. I'm glad I went. Highly recommend

Informative and enjoyable tour of the history of gold extraction in this area. The guide was knowledgeable and was able to answer most questions.

A short but enjoyable tour

We enjoyed the tour, there wasn't a lot to see but we enjoyed the tour around the battery and John our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the battery and the history of Millchester and Charters Towers. There were a couple of hologram shows that added to the history and these were enjoyable. I think the best part was sitting with John at the end discussing the area and the changes over the years.

Learn some Charters Towers back story

The presenter was knowledgeable and imparted this skilfully. The site used quite clever audio visual to bring the history to life.

A great tour

A very interesting tour lead by John. We really enjoyed the place and the stories associated with the Gold Battery. Great for history lover,I would not recommend this for young children.

Well worth a visit

This is a must see piece of QUeensland industrial history and we were so pleased it has been saved. It has an interesting story but the preservation hasn’t had the attention it deserves. Well worthwhile for an hour and a quarter guided tour. Great for all the family.

A must visit

Very informative and interesting tour. Our guide John debunked some myths about gold mining, and imparted lots of facts surrounding the mill and its history. The mill itself is an interesting and beautiful (I think) building. A great experience!

A must visit

What a great experience. I initially did not want to go but my husband did. I am so very glad I went. Such interesting part of the town's history. The guide was so informative and very entertaining. Most of the items are original or have been restored.You can only imagine what it must have been liking digging for gold and then working in the crushing mills in those days. Not for the faint hearted. You can only go on a tour which can be booked at the battery itself or at the information centre in town. This is really worth doing and I highly recommend.
