Night Tour in Monteverde

A Magical Walk Through an Enchanted Night Forest

Fun, educational and beautiful experience of a mysterious night time forest. Our guide Jésus (Bryan) was passionate, kind and deeply informed about the wildlife in the area. We got to see some really cool spiders, like tarantulas, frogs, a snake and more. While we had hoped to see a little more (likely affected by the weather), our guide's enthusiasm and knowledge was plenty enough to make it all the more worthwhile.

Good for family, but a bit simple

I'm biologist and I can confirm that the guide was not enough train. He did a lot of mistakes of identification.

Disappointing

Perhaps i didn't do my research properly but we only got to see insects, snakes and a few birds. No mammals... this is typical for the tour. We saw all of the same things in the daytime tours, not sure what the benefit of a night tour was?!

Brandon was a great...

Brandon was a great guide! He did an awesome job of finding and showing us a variety of animals. We saw kinkajou, a variety of spiders, frogs, birds, a snake, and ficus trees- all super cool. Brandon is obviously very passionate about the environment and educating us and was a great guide. I would absolutely do this tour again.

Great experience viewing wildlife at night

Grieving A was an excellent guide, adept at spotting various species at night and assisting us in capturing some great photographs. His deep knowledge of the flora and fauna significantly enhanced the experience. The operators did an excellent job of dividing the larger group into smaller ones, ensuring personalized attention for each participant.

Wonderful Tour with a Knowledgeable Guide

The night tour with Brandon was one of our favorite tours in Costa Rica! Brandon was so patient and knowledgeable, and with his guidance we were able to see snakes, spiders, leaf bugs, 2 types of tarantulas, an olingo, frogs and an armadillo. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the diversity of creatures living in the cloud forest - a fantastic experience!

Great night tour!

The night walk was great! We were broken up into small groups so it was only our seven family members with our guide Brandon who was fantastic! He was very friendly and funny and knowledgeable. Great at spotting wildlife. We saw lots of different frogs and tarantulas and some vipers and really cool fungus and a possum. The tour was about two hours and I recommend hiking boots if you have them. We never would have spotted anything without Brandon and he was so great and patient with the kids and helped us get good pictures of the animals.

Brandon was an incredible guide who helped us identify frogs, sleeping toucans, snakes, spiders and more! Tour is ~2 hours. Would recommend to anyone visiting this area of Costa Rica.

Night tour was okay, a bit expensive

Our guide was nice and hard working, but there wasn’t a lot to see for us. If you like spiders, trees, plants, frogs, then it is fine. We were hoping to see some larger animals.

Amazing tour

Amazing tour- our guide Tuca was so lovely and informative and made the tour even more enjoyable. We saw some amazing wildlife including an armadillo! A great experience

Great tour -- just be sure that group size is limited

Great guide, good terrain for night hike with lots of frogs, mammals, and spiders. Terrain is a little steep so not recommended for those with mobility issues. Only real down side was that they crammed 10 of us on the hike -- way too many.

Armadillo and porcupine!

Our guide was great! He’s clearly passionate about animals and plants specific trees to support different species. He made sure everyone had a chance to walk at the front with him. We spotted porcupine, armadillo, lots of frogs, tarantulas, lizards, and insects!

It was really interesting and we had a good guide how showed us many things. The pickup from the hotel worked good und there was a small groupe size which was really good.

Great tour…saw some great animals, inspects and bugs.Brendan was a great guide. Would recommend to others.

Great night in the forest

Although it was raining we were able to see several interesting animals including the green glass frog and pit viper. We were arriving late from Arenal and would not be able to make the early walk as scheduled but in calling the company they arranged to pick us up for the late walk. Maurice our guide was great and found interesting flora and fawna to look at. He also took great pictures for us and explained different aspects of the forest to us. Overall it was a great evening that we would highly recommend to take in when in Monteverde.

Monteverde night tour

Mauricio was a great tour guide. At the start of the tour, we did not see much even with Mauricio using animal calls and searching around. We eventually saw tarantulas, frogs, opossums, and vipers. Tour was a good length, informative, and cool to see nature at night. We would’ve preferred to see a bit more but that’s the roll of the dice.

Great Guide, Beautiful Area

Such a fun experience! Our guide, Brandon, was knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed sharing his love of nature with others. Because it is nature and there are no guarantees of sightings we weren't sure what we would find, but we were able to see and learn more about a variety of frogs, insects, tarantulas, and scorpions!

Knowledgeable guide and fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend and would book again if/when I come back to the area.

Super Night Adventure

A super evening with a knowledgeable guide. Thoroughly recommend to everyone. We went the first night of our stay in Costa Rica and we were more aware of where to look for animals during the rest of our stay.

Must see night tour

Olman was absolutely fantastic. With almost 30 years experience, he knows exactly what he's doing. And he'll be sure to find what you are looking for as well. He was also just as excited to see the animals and even did a little dance after a good find. He was such a pleasure and I highly recommend letting him show you the forest he loves so much.

Very good nighttour

Very nice nighttour. Guide knew all the places to spot animals. Saw some mammals, tarantulas, insects, frogs and a snake. Guide made sure everyone could look and take pictures. Very good price/quality!

Great experience !

Great experience ! Forest by night is impressive and we saw plenty animals such as frogs, snakes, tarantulas… Olman is very nice and knows the Forest perfectly, I recommend !

Amazing Night Tour

Olman was an amazing guide!! Since it was the low season, I ended up being the only one on the tour. He had an incredible knowledge of the plants and animals, and helped me see so many things I would never have been able to see on my own. He used his scope to show me amazing wildlife and even took excellent videos and photos with my phone. Despite the challenges of the rainy season, we were able to see sloths, olingos, wild turkeys, tarantulas, frogs, owls, toucans, and porcupines, among others. Absolutely recommend this incredible experience!

Good experience with a great guide!

Olman was a great guide, the tour was pretty awesome! We saw lots of nature and wildlife. The vipers and snakes were very cool! If the weather would have cooperated more it would have been a bit better but that is not in their control. It was very foggy but it was still a worthy experience!!!

Had an awesome time! Seeing the forest at night changes everything! Olman was the best guide! He made sure we were safe, that everyone could see, and that we could get pictures! We saw lots of animals too!!

Fun Night Tour

The night tour was a lot of fun and pretty educational. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who visits Monteverde.

Grounds were excellent...

Grounds were excellent and our guide, Brandon, was knowledgeable and passionate; he helped spot an array of animals and taught us a great deal on the animals habitat/behaviors.

Excellent night tour!

Very impressed with this night tour. Our guide Mauricio was excellent at spotting wildlife including birds, toucan, tarantulas, frogs, salamander, bats, possum, spiders and the most amazing viper that was the biggest we had seen during our trip. Mauricio was very friendly and knowledgeable and went out of his way to help us take photographs of everything through his scope. Very reasonable priced tour considering how much we saw. Highly recommend if you are in Monteverde and looking for a good night tour.

Great fun at the night tour.

The tour was very good. We saw frogs, toucans, spiders, grasshoppers and stick insects. A lot of time was spent searching for the creatures but that is a part of the tour. It was very enjoyable despite the weather.

Unprofessional guide

The guide seemed to have his own agenda not taking into account what our group wanted to experience. We felt rushed. The flashlights were not very bright. It did not compare favorably with the two other tours we had taken which were wonderful.

Love the Night Walk!

I spotted the tiniest frog I've ever seen! It's a pygmy rain frog and a baby, no less. The guide did it was the first time he's seen one. It was the size of a fingernail. That was the highlight.

Moritizio was a great guide. He knew the farm and forest like the back of his hand. He was friendly. His English was excellent.

Fun night

Fun experience! Chris was a great tour guide and helped us find things we would have never seen on our own, and helped take great pictures with his scope. It was a nice outing for our multigenerational group.

Passion for Costa Rican night forest life makes for a magical experience

Brandon the guide was so full of passion for the creatures of the night forest that he made the whole wet walk a wonderful adventure. I was so excited to actually see howler monkeys and kinkajou in the wild.

Monteverde Must Do

Incredible experience, highly recommended. Our tour guide Olmon was a whiz at spotting wildlife (in the dark!), was super knowledgeable, and made us feel very safe.

Great night adventure

Amazing little farm with secondary rainforest. Saw lots of bugs, toucans, and frogs. Bring a rain jacket or pancho. And of course, don’t forget the camera.

Fun tour

Our guide was very passionate and knowledgeable, he shared a lot of info about the flora and fauna. We got to see a ton of insects, frogs, tarantulas and two different kinds of toucan. The tour was in a farm so that was a little disappointing. I would have preferred to do this in a reserve, but we couldn't find such a tour at the last minute. Overall it was a pretty enjoyable experience.

Awesome night tour

This tour was great, the guide Jona was amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great time and saw tarantulas, armadillos, snakes, frogs and so on. I highly recommend it as most life comes out at night. Pura vida!

Average

Pretty much as expected, neither excellent not terrible. You're given a dim flashlight and you and 11 other people (or so) follow the guide around some trails looking for things in the night. The guides were very knowledgeable, but the flashlights were low-quality rechargeables, meaning they died on several people. Additionally the guide suggests people change orders but never enforces it, so some people hogged the front.

Great tour with snakes and spiders!

Amazing night tour and we saw a lot, including two green viper snakes in the trees, a sleeping toucan, armadillo, porky pine, tarantulas and lots of other creepy crawlies. The tour guide Brendon was knowledgable and answered all of our questions. They provided torches and divided you into small groups, which was great. The tour is on the edge of the rain forrest at the back of a farm, but dont let that put you off as you still get to see a lot! I would highly recommend this tour.

Awesome perspective of Monteverde in the evening!

Very cool night, hike! We were picked up and driven safely to our excursion, despite the very foggy and cloudy conditions. I applaud the driver our guide got us all set up with everything we needed on the night hike. We wore raincoats as it was drizzling a little bit that night. It was to be expected up in those parts of Costa Rica, but it didn’t bother us. We wore good hiking boots that navigated the trails really well. I recommend you wear hiking boots and not tennis shoes. Our guy was able to find all kinds of animals, and I appreciated his knowledge and expertise in where to find them. We saw frogs of all kinds, sleeping toucans, tarantulas, spiders, scorpions, and the blue morpho butterfly. We didn’t see any snakes, but I was more than ok with that. I wish the group had been slightly smaller size as it made for tight maneuvering on the trails when we all had to rotate to look through the scope at different critters on the trail. Cool experience though. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful

The guide was earnest in spotting wildlife at night. He shared information about the local animals and plants. I am all praises about the guide and the tour, but if I have one little criticism, it would be with the people I was with in the group. I traveled solo and I was grouped with 3 other people, and one of them was obnoxious. He dampened the mood a little but the tour guide was awesome in keeping all of us engaged. Givrain (? I'm not sure how to spell his name) was our guide.

Amazing night walk

Incredible night walk. You can see lots of night animals on that tour. I would recommend taking a fully charged phone as you might use a torch to take good photos

Frogs galore!

We saw many frogs - we were lucky that it had just rained. We also saw two varieties of tarantula and some interesting insects. Unfortunately we didn't see any snakes or mammals, but that's just how it goes. Our guide was great and helped us take photos through his scope.

Great for families with older kiddos. Lots of wildlife and laughs.

This was probably my 12-year-olds favorite tour of the entire trip to Costa Rica. Our guide Olman was funny and very knowledgeable about the wildlife. We saw snakes and frogs and lots of spiders. We saw some sleeping birds and even chatted about plants (my favorite). This tour was recommended to us by our airbnb host and I am so grateful for the recommendation. We had an awesome time and my son fell in love with the night creatures. Highly recommend!

Saw lots of amazing animals and tour guide was great!

Our guide was very knowledgeable and found a wide variety of wildlife that we would never have seen without him! We saw a kinkajou, tarantulas, all kinds of insects and a green tree viper! I would suggest bringing your own flashlight though because the ones provided were not very bright

Great for Creepy Crawler Enthusiasts!

I highly recommend a night tour! It's a great time to see all of the nocturnal creatures. Without our guide, Brandon's, help we would have missed so much! He was knowledgeable about the creatures in the forest and was able to spot them so quickly. We still don't know how he managed to spot the small green viper up in the tree! He was great and made the experience so much fun. We saw several tarantulas, various bugs, some frogs, and a snake!
