3-in-1 Monteverde Cloud Forest Waterfalls, Wild Trekking and Horseback Riding

3in1 fabulous tour

The experience was wonderful. The place is very organized and nicely run. The trails are well kept and easy to follow. The scenery was beautiful. It would have been nice to have some information on the geology and the vegetation. We also didn’t ask about it. The lunch was also delicious. It was a marvellous day. I would highly recommend it.

Extremely Disappointed

Extremely disappointing tour experience. Our family of 7 people each paid $116USD for a guided horseback ride at the end of our tour which we did not receive. We were told that horses weren’t available until January, but we watched at least 30 people riding horses on our tour. So we paid $116USD each for a self-guided hike. Would not recommend using Faro as a third party booking company.

Disappointed

We registered for the 3in1 excursion, including lunch, a hike and horseback riding. Upon arrival, we were informed that they had no horses until January. There was no previous communication that our reservation had changed. Even though they said they had no horses for the horseback riding part of the excursion, I watched multiple parties of people ride the horses we were told weren’t available. We also did not get any compensation for the loss of the package we originally purchased. We did not get what we paid for and are very disappointed.

Beautiful waterfalls and quiet peace

Self guided tour through the falls and then a fun, quick horseback ride to the top and then a delicious lunch to finish. They had a specialty Hot Sugar Cane drink which hit the spot after a cold morning. The trek was easy but muddy due to the rain but since we went at 7:30 am, no one else was on the trail so it was nice to have the forest to ourselves. I def recommend a water proof parka, hat and hiking shors as this is not an easy hike. Moderate is more like it. The horse back ride is fairly quick and easy so no need for anything fancy. Appreciate the tips on the map and check ins!

Great 3-in-1 tour in Monte Verde and El Tigre Waterfalls

The waterfalls were amazing and a nice long hike to see all of them. Rained a lot but didn't stop us! Had a 30m horse ride at the end which was fun, then a lovely lunch before transfer home. Thank you very much! Charlie and Cheryl

A magical experience

The waterfalls and the hanging bridges were magical! Unfortunately it was heavy rain (it is a rainforest after all) so we didn’t see many animals. Lunch was delicious and our driver Ivan did a great job navigating the winding, uneven terrain on the way to Monteverde. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

Book it, you won't regret it!

I did the self guided hike and I loved how it was well-planned and organized. I'm an inexperienced hiker and was thankful that there were multiple markings on the trail to guide you and the terrain was easy to navigate. It was refreshing to rest by the waterfalls after a long hike. There was an option for horseback riding and I can tell that the horses were well taken cared of and healthy. The guide was also very nice and calmed my nerves as it was my first time to ride a horse as well. After the adventure, a yummy lunch is served and again, it was nothing short of amazing. Overall, I highly recommend this tour and this company. They are very professional and organized!

Incredible Experience.

Incredible experience. Even better than expected. Beautiful and many waterfalls, hanging bridges, wonderful hike and horseback ride. Meal at the end was delicious and served indoors with awesome view. Can’t say enough. Was a highlight of our trip.

Best Hike Ever

Best hike ever!! The waterfalls are breathtaking. We decided to include the horseback ride and the lunch afterwards. The rode back up was perfect and so fun and the lunch afterwards was delicious. Wear shoes that are comfortable and you don’t mind getting ruined and I would recommend that you take your time at each waterfall, since you can probably finish the hike in an hour if you don’t stop. bringing a towel and water bottles!

Surpassed expectations! We spent 2 hours trekking 5km, going over hanging bridges and taking photos of magnificent waterfalls. The forest was beautiful and peaceful. Then, we took the 4x4 for the last 3km and had a beautiful view for lunch. Great that they offer the 4x4 for people who don’t want to horse ride.

30s Couple

Really worthwhile trip. Picked up on time at 0730, taken to the location which had quite a large and modern visitor centre and restaurant. After being briefed on the route we left by ourselves at 0830 to walk it at our own pace and stopped when we wanted to take photos and get into the waterfalls. We are quite young and quick and it took us 3 hours, so had an hour to enjoy lunch with a bottle of wine before pick up at 1230. We took the horses back up the ravine which were well kept and gentle. A guide accompanies you on the horse ride. Its quite shady in the ravine but still warm. I walked in trainers and swim shorts, just took trainers off to swim. Took a tshirt and walking trousers to change into for the horse ride but this isnt necessary. Lots of beautiful photo opportunities and plenty of wildlife. Glad we chose this experience. Couple in 30s.

Monteverde Hike

We went on this activity and enjoyed it but felt rushed. The hike was fun but there's not much time to spend at the waterfalls. Waterfall number 3 was our favorite, it's the nicest and the water is deep enough for a good dip. The horses were a nice ending even though my husband was given a horse that wasn't trained and took the joy out of his ride, he wasn't able to enjoy the ride up with his girls. Suggestion: Make it a group instruction when you get to the main facility, like this time is not wasted for the activily. Extend the hours so people can enjoy the activity fully. Ask riders if they mind the wild horse, some may actually want to enjoy the ride with the family and the family may not want to be worried about their loved one and something not happening to him/her. Thank you

Don’t miss this experience!

This is a fabulous experience. The hiking was downhill and challenging (72 yo with not great knees) but doable. Fortunately they have walking sticks. Beautiful scenery and many waterfalls. The horse ride is fun, and a lovely spot for lunch. One of the best deals in the area. Everyone is helpful and friendly, and we met people from many countries. Staff is great!

Upset and disappointed

I booked trip excited to go and another one had to be canceled from viator not on my behald but issues with provider. Pick up point was at my hotel then get text saying cannot pick up but if you still want to come on trip pay us 360.00 usa for someone to come get you on top of paying for excursion. So very upset with viator for lying about information and then to be frauded to pay another 350.00 usa for driver. Now I have to wait for them to approve refund with evidence and fight with them for refund and not to mention ruin my trip due to pay advance and now have to wait for refund and request for refund. Be cautious and I did this online with thier agent. Bad service

Gorgeous spot, well worth the visit, but look into pricing.

I feel a bit conflicted, or maybe confused. The El Tigre waterfalls were gorgeous, the trail well maintained, and the ride back on horseback was great (horses looked healthy and well taken care of). We did the hike with our 6 year old, and she did it without any issues. They provided walking staffs and I highly recommend you take those. The confusion part is on the price. You can book directly at the place, for $66 (transportation not included). We also received a voucher from the driver that said $12 for transportation. so is the cost $12+$66 = $78? If so, the tour they are selling is a huge rip off. Now I don't know how much it is to get independent transport, but if you have more than 1 person, I would look into it .

Best tour in CR truly

Our favorite tour in Costa Rica!!! Since my friend and I decided to not go to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, we found this tour. We were picked up from our lodging in Monteverde in a shared a shuttle. The hike was amazing! So many waterfalls and also the hanging bridges were very scenic. It was not too crowded. We were able to explore on our own pace (the hike is not done with a guide). The trails are well maintained. Riding horses at the end of the hike was really fun! The horses are well trained and seem to be well taken care of. The lunch was delightful and was a great reward for the end of the hike. There is unlimited, complimentary beverages (hot sugar cane, coffee, watermelon juice, passionfruit juice, tea) at the restaurant too. We were also able to purchase Cafe Monteverde coffee beans. I actually accidentally purchased an expired coffee beans and realized once I got back to my lodging so I contacted the El Tigre staff. They immediately and graciously offered to drive to my lodging and give me new coffee beans. Exceptional service!!!! Overall, highly recommend this tour if you stay in Monteverde and enjoy hiking!

Challenging Adventure

There was a beautiful walk through the rainforest with many spectacular waterfalls, a number of small hanging bridges and places to stop and view the surroundings. We opted to take the horses up the hill which was great. The day finished off with a meal overlooking the entire region.

Stunning!

Best hike ever! The waterfalls were incredible and the hiking was so fun! The horses were a great end to the hike and the food at the end was delicious. Worth every penny!

Highly Recommend

Made the top 3 of my favorite hikes! We opted not to swim in the waterfalls, as we had previously done that in La Fortuna. Hanging bridges were lots of fun and make for some amazing photos. Afterwards, the lunch and the views were amazing!

Exhilarating nature walk

We went to trekking, and horse back riding in cloud forest and it was the best experience ever! The spot for lunch was breathtaking!

A wonderful rainforest trek.

This was a beautiful walk with wonderful waterfalls along the way as a highlight. It was fun to get on the horses to finish up the trip. The lunch was very tasty.

Amazing

This was such an amazing experience, the food was also delicious. Highly recommend people to do this, we did the trekking, horseback riding but also included the back and it was a great experience. The view is amazing. Recommend to bring a waterproof case. Amazing views

The beautiful waterfalls!!! The gorgeous scenery and beautiful horses. Plus, very serene; no crowds of people, just the peaceful forest.

Waterfalls

Did this in December of 22 and couldn’t speak more highly of the experience! The trail is well marked and the walkie talkie system was very helpful. There were beautiful outlooks the entire walk. Loved taking the horses at the end of the trip! Lunch with a view was just a bonus. I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to experience waterfalls and scenic views

Great day in Monteverde

The hike was beautiful. One of the prettiest I’ve been on. Lots of waterfalls, even in the beginning of rainy season. We rode the horses at the end up the hill. It’s a steep hill. The horses are well trained and well taken care of. Lunch at the end in the restaurant was very good. The view is beautiful.

What an adventure!!!

We chose to do this tour unguided. We wanted to take our time, and take many photos. The waterfalls were amazing, and we had the opportunity to see some monkey's too! The 1/2 horseback "climb" (the road to the restaurant was quite steep) was perfect after the long journey through the cloud forest. As a horse person myself... I know that the horses are well taken care of ( unlike some of the others that I have encountered) The lunch was delicious, and the view from the restaurant was lovely. The staff was friendly and informative.

Great Excursion - would highly recommend

This was our favorite excursion while on our trip to the Monteverde area. The hike was challenging but not too strenuous with beautiful paths through the foliage. We saw at least 6 waterfalls on the trek which was a bit of a surprise given I expected only one lol. Only one of them required some extra climbing to reach and the trail had a fork to allow folks to skip it if they didn't want to spend the effort. The views were amazing throughout and I would exactly do this one all over again. They had an option for horseback or vehicle return (for folks who didn't want to ride or were above the weight limit). They also had a "bike on a line" option that you could pay extra and ride part of the way back up in the canopy vs horse or vehicle. If I could go back, I would opt for that but didn't at the time. We had opted for the meal and it was delicious after the day of hiking. Would highly recommend!

Great hike, lots to see.

Really good day. Pick up was fine. Hike around the waterfalls was great. Brilliant sights to see. Chance to have a dip or a paddle in one of the pools. Good to cool and freshen up. Horse ride out was a novel experience for me having never been on one before. Just a slow plod up some steep roads. Overall really pleased and felt it worth the price.

Excellent Nature Hike

When it's very windy in Santa Elen, it's calm and warm on the hike. Faro was fantastic to deal with.

Horse ride ?!?

The hike, the view and the food is wonderful but dont pay extra for the horseride. It is only about 10 minute long and all you do is go up a gravel hill. But it will save you the last 4km (which are the hardest) so its a good choice if you doubt you’re not in good shape.

Fun experience

This is a self-guided hike at El Tigre Waterfalls, followed by a horseback or 4x4 ride out, followed by lunch. Getting to El Tigre might require a 4-wheel drive vehicle depending on road conditions when you go. We didn’t use it on the way in but we did on the way out. Starting with the hike, I mentioned it is self-guided. There is good and bad in this. The good - we set the pace. The bad - we didn’t see much other than the waterfalls during the hike. The hike didn’t take us much more than an hour. You can spend as long as you want. You can swim in some of the waterfall pools. We chose the horseback ride out. Our guide, Jorge, didn’t speak much English but we communicated as best we could and he was very pleasant. The ride out takes about 30 minutes. We could have hiked out but we were there for the experience. This was followed by lunch back at the reception building at El Tigre. The staff was attentive and the food was good.

Highlight of our time in Monteverde!

My wife and I had a great time at El Tigre! I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun multipart adventure which is guided when needed but self paced when not. It begins with a self paced walk through an amazing set of waterfalls and hanging bridges. Truly breathtaking scenery that you experience at your own pace without a crowd. I highly recommend the bicycle Zipline tour which is very well guided. The horseback ride out was much appreciated followed by a nice lunch. We also did a more structured tour the day before and I pick El Tigre hands down!

Cloud Forest

This was the perfect mix of activities! The cloud forest is beautiful and our guide was very skilled and had an incredible knowledge of the many birds we saw. The waterfalls are beautiful and there are many great picture opportunities. The hike is challenging but doable so you feel accomplished after. We opted to horseback ride back up to the main center which was a lot of fun too! The food we had for lunch was some of our favorite food from the trip. Highly recommend the Arroz con Pollo!

Do not miss this one!!!

I read a few complaints about how this was a self-guided walk and not officially a “tour.” I can’t imagine having a guide on this stunningly beautiful walk down to the many waterfalls; many areas are narrow (think single-file at someone else’s pace?!) and there are SO MANY different places to stop and look around! One of us wanted to stand under every waterfall, one of us wanted to snap photos of every leaf and flower that caught her eye, one of us wanted to video where possible, and two of us wanted to keep moving forward until the perfect opportunity to try out a rented zoom lens - and that’s just one family!! Take your time here - it’s gorgeous. There’s a spot on the trail that recommends going barefoot - do it! - and read the reasoning on the board when you reach the bench to put your shoes back on. Listen to the incredible sounds of the forest! When we got to the place where you call the lodge to let them know you’re almost at the horses, we were surprised by the opportunity to do a bicycle zip line (whaaat???). We hadn’t read about it in any of the reviews and it’s apparently a new offering. DO IT! I am not a fan of zip lines or biking, and this was one of the highlights of our trip in general. By “biking” you can slow down, or stop, and look around you….simply amazing! We got to the horses and rode up to the lodge for lunch. The ride was icing on the cake, with incredible views along the entire trail. Lunch was in a room with huge windows so we could keep enjoying the outside while munching away (try the hot sugar cane water!). I can’t recommend this tour enough - worth every penny.

Perfect combination of a hike and great horseback ride. Highly recommend! Great for older kids (probably eight years old and above) but might be too much for younger ones.

Not a tourer, still beautiful!

We thought this was a guided event-after all, it’s referenced as a “tour” in several places. Instead this was a solo hike. It would have been nice to have someone knowledgeable about the plant/fauna to help us learn about the cloud forest. The horseback guides were great, very helpful and attentive. Lunch was also great!

WOW!

We had an excellent tour guide who guided us around the hanging bridges. It was amazing to see the biodiversity between the primary and secondary jungle. We also were lucky to see some amazing birds as well as different plants throughout. The highest and longest bridges were awesome, with some incredible views. We visited the butterfly and sloth sanctuary afterwards where you are very close to sloths. These slots they have taken in from road traffic accidents and will keep until they have recovered. Remember to bring your rain coats as it can get very wet!

Beautiful day, amazing hike!

There is no describing the beauty of the cloud forest and the waterfalls. We saw snakes, lizards, monkeys, and toucans. Gorgeous!! The hike isn't easy, but my teens and us middle-aged folks did fine. My mother in law has weakness in her legs and struggled with some of the uphill sections, however, after we finished she was so proud of herself and said she would do it all over again! Definitely happy the horses did the hard work on the way up :) Lunch was delicious and all the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Amazing Views, Suitable for Kids (ages 8 and 12)

This tour is a must do when you visit Monteverde! The views are stunning, some of the best you will see when you are in costa rica. Wear good shoes, its a long day of hiking with some uneven ground. The whole process from booking to transportation is very organized. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend!

The views were immaculate and the trek was a good workout but not overbearing. The staff was polite, and made sure we were well equipped before heading out for the self guided part of the tour! My fiance and I enjoyed the horseback riding just as much as the waterfalls(our caballero was amazing).

Fantastic Trek in Monteverde!

This is the BEST Monteverde hike! It is breathtakingly beautiful and just when you think it can’t get any better, you move to an even more fantastic location! There were stunning waterfalls, rope and wood suspension bridges that seemed right out of a scene from Jumanji. We swam in a pool of crystal clear fresh water and sunbathed on the rocks while gazing up at the towering trees of the rainforest. Spectacular! We finished the hike with a horseback ride back up out of the valley and walked into an awesome restaurant with a wall of windows overlooking the rolling hills from Lake Arenal to the Arenal Volcano! Brilliant!

Great hiking experience

Amazing view from the cafe, gorgeous hike. Not crowded and the guides at the start/end were super friendly! Exceeded expectations and would definitely recommend! We did the entire hike (so no horses at the end) and we loved every part of the hike. Challenging and fun!

Great views! Great hike!

This was great! Such amazing views. They picked us up at our airbnb on time. It was about a ~30 mins drive from Santa Elena. It is a self-guided tour that is very easy to follow with check-in stations if needed. There is a spot you can swim in the river as well along the hike. The horse ride isn’t super long but takes you up the steepest part which was super nice and the horses were very sweet. The meal at the end was delicious and overlooked incredible views. The shuttle took us right home. It was a great tour - would def recommend to anyone in the area!

Pura Vida

This was by far one of the best hikes I have been on! The views were incredible, the waterfalls were astonishing, and the hike felt very safe and well laid out for one to follow. The service was also incredible. They cooked us an authentic Costa Rican meal after our hike and I would have to say it was so delicious! Plus the view from the lunch room over the Monte Verde mountains was something straight out of a post card.

Self guided hike with excellent views

It was a challenging hike with great views! It was very cloudy and raining off and on when we went so we were unable to see the volcanoes but nonetheless it was a worthwhile trip. We just wish there were more markers on the hike so that we don’t mistakenly take another trail off of the main one, which we did by mistake. The lunch was delicious and restaurant quality food.

Favorite hiking adventure!

My absolute favorite tour adventure! Faro Travel made it extremely easy to book (I booked directly through Whatsapp) and pay. Both tours I did were through Faro Travel and Whatsapp (I also booked a night walk tour). I was picked up and taken directly to El Tigre Waterfalls where I started the hike. Due to covid, the tours are not guided but I was okay with that. The location, while you could probably view animal life and benefit from hearing the natural history with an expert guide, was absolutely stunning all on its own! It's an 8km hike where you pass by multiple waterfalls, both large and small. There's plenty of places to swim or get in the water. It is mountain water so it is freezing but refreshing! You cross over the river many times and it's pretty fun and safe despite what the bridge may appear like. The trail is well-maintained. It was rainy when I went and even through the mud, it was still safe. I think families with kids could do this trail pretty easily. There is only a couple uphill climbs but they're not hard. I opted for the horseback ride back up after the hike, and was super thankful for it! It was steep. I can't imagine walking back up. I think there's a 4x4 option if horses aren't your thing. They were calm and knew the way up, so even beginners should feel safe. I ended with lunch at reception and it was delicious after the few hours hiking. Freddy was early picking me up and it was a quick ride back to my hotel. Overall, an amazing day and tour!

Insanely beautiful hike with many waterfalls

The hike is really great, you can pass 6 waterfalls and end up swimming in the waterfall/river. I would recommend good footwear as well as taking one of the poles you can borrow there. Most of the time it goes downhill, for some of the suspension bridges you should be dizzy free. I rode the last part of the hike on horseback, but you can also hike, it goes quite steeply uphill. From the restaurant you have a great view.

GOOD

It was very good ! The only negative thing is the return transport. They cram 10 people onto a bus when there were only 5 of us going. The benches aren't even wide enough to sit on!
