Puerto Plata City Tour

Juan & Santo showed us Puerto Plata City!

I feel like I had a real visit to Puerto Plata. In particular I like the information given about Amber in one of the stores and at the Amber Museum. I also enjoyed walking across the town square and the “forteleza”. Juan Guzman was an excellent tour guide with a wealth of knowledge about the history of Puerto Plata. Also, the driver Santo Pichardo did much more than drive the bus! He also pushed the wheelchair holding grandpa when we were doing our walking tours.

OK- really the only excursion worth taking in this area

Rushed threw the flags area and only one shop to shop in was high priced. Food for lunch was very bland and dry and not a restaurant but a place set up just for this . Restaurant at top of tram area tried to charge us a dollar apiece to use their bathroom- -we refused

A really good and fun tour of Puerto Plata

This tour was very enjoyable and I do recommend it if you’re ok with some heights. You do drive up the side of a small mountain to get to the top and look down. Also there is a cable car. I never felt it unsafe for one second. Great view and you also see the city by the water as well as up high. I do recommend it

Great Guide, Extensive Tour

Thank you, Matias & Roberto! Multiple cruise ships had arrived on the day of our tour, but Matias planned our day in a way to miss the crowds. Pickup and drop off was on time and the tour covered a lot that we would not have been able to do on our own. Great experience, and beautiful views. Matias shared much about history, geography, culture and was very knowledgeable about local fauna & flora. Would recommend it if you’re looking to get away from the pool and beach for a day, or if you have a lightly rainy day during your trip.

I had an amazing experience during the activity. The activity included many different things to do. Our guide Sarterino was very knowledgeable and respectful Roberto our driver was very professional. I would highly recommend this activity when you want to do many things in one.

OUTSTANDING!

In what has been a disaster of a vacation so far, these guys saved our entire stay. Our tour guide Julio Peralta and our driver Roberto went above and beyond to keep our group of 24 fully engaged and entertained. They immediately became part of our family. They were friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our every whim. With the extreme heat they provided cold water for the entire day. While some would think that listening to 8 hours of history could be boring, they made it fully entertaining. Not only would I recommend Runners , but I would highly recommend that you specifically ask for Julio and Roberto.

Amazing tour

The guide Julio really knew his stuff. It was very interesting & informative. I enjoyed the rum factory & chocolate factory the most 😎. I also liked the fact that we were never rushed. Let’s not forget our driver, Roberto, very capable & professional.

Amazing & Informational!

Edwin with Edwin Tours was the best tour guide we’ve ever had! We felt 110% safe with him. He took so many pictures of us & showed us the entire downtown portion of Peurto Plata & even gave us information on other questions we had. 10/10 recommend doing your tour with him!

Highly recommend this tour

The tour was great. Our tour guide Julio did a wonderful job explaining everything as we went through the city and providing background cultural information. Our driver Fabio did a great job navigating through traffic and keeping us safe. The tour bus was clean, in good condition, and provided us with cool air as we went between sites. The tram to the top of the mountain and its sights were well worth the visit. The run factory visit was fun and interesting. The rum tasting (Macorix House of Rum) provided a time to compare the various flavors and styles produced at the factory. I liked their aged rum best. The Amber Museum, cathedral, downtown square, umbrella lane, and pink lane were interesting, fun, and informative. And, lime all tours, you get taken to places to spend money on local trinkets. The vendors were courteous and not too pushy. The fort was okay. But the audio provided by the fort doesn’t really guide you or help any. The lunch provided by the tour company was good overall. The chocolate factory tour was great. It was informative and everyone enjoyed the hot chocolate, brownies, and various chocolates we were able to sample. I highly recommend a trip to Del Oro’s Chocolate Factory. I would highly recommend using this tour group. They did a great job for my family and everyone enjoyed the tour.

Long day but full of culture

Unfortunately our tour was in heavy wind and rain, so that put a damper on things. Apart from that, which obviously couldn't be avoided, there was a lot of driving in between places, and I wished that it was more walking and a more compact experience. Definitely try the hot chocolate at the Chocolate Museum... cannot be misses! So yummy.

Terrific tour of Peurto Plata!

We had a great day exploring Puerto Plata! Julio was a professional and knowledgeable guide that really helped us understand the history of the DR and Fabio was the driver extraordinaire. We really enjoyed the Amber Museum and the Macorix rum factory tour. Lunch was delicious (much better than the resort food!). Highly recommend this tour but particularly Julio as he made the day!

Amazing City Tour with Julio and Fabio!

Julio and Fabio took myself, my wife, and my three friends on this adventure. We all had a fantastic time and learned alot! Would highly recommend this trip. The tours of the rum factory, chocolate factory, and amber museum were awesome, and the tour of the shops and short walk around the city, including the stop at the beautiful church, umbrella street, and Pink street were so much fun. Throw in the cable car ride and amazing scenic views from the mountain and this trip cant be beat! Oh, almost forgot, the home cooked meal was absolutely delicious! Thank you Julio and Fabio (and the cooks!) for an amazing day!

Great Learning Experience about the Dominican Republic

This was a n excellent trip. The guide Julio was extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the Island. He encouraged us to ask any questions that we might have about the Island and its people. There was a lot packed into this trip. The driver Fabio encouraged use to keep hydrated and handed out water freely. We enjoyed every stop and learned a lot about the island. Everything was timed perfectly however we would have liked at little more time at the one souvenir shop. We did not have time to purchase anything as we were hurried out of the store. Another 10 minutes would have been great but we did understand this was to keep us on schedule. All in all I would recommend this excursion.

Disorganized and ran over 2 hours!

We saw a ton of things on the tour. However, it was poorly facilitated for the time explained. We backtracked on road 3-4 times instead of cohorting activities in the same location. The city is safe and clean and I would recommend just taking a taxi into town and walking it yourself.

Great value!

This was an excellent day excursion, you'll get to see quite a few different sites and it's a great introduction to the city. I didn't feel rushed, we had enough time at each stop. Highly recommend checking this one out if you're looking for a relaxing excursion day with some exploring and tasting involved. Lots of great opportunities for photos as well. Juan P. and Manuel were awesome!

Highly recommended excursion

This tour was both fun and very informative. Our guide Julian and driver Roberto were excellent and ensured that we were all looked after. Puerto Plata is a clean, beautiful, and very interesting city. This excursion is definitely recommended. I liked everything on this trip: walking tour of the historical downtown, Amber museum tour (with a cigar shop at the ground floor), rum tasting, chocolate factory tour, quick stopover at the fort, and the cable car ride. The food was also surprisingly good. Kudos to Julian and Roberto!

Great tour! Julian and Manuel are fantastic!

This was one of the best tours we have had. Puerto Plata is beautiful and very interesting. We had enough time to visit each location and explore. Julian our tour guide gave us lots on information about the city. He was funny and charming. We saw tour guides on other tour companies leaving their people alone during the visits but our tour guide Julian was always with us, checking on us, making sure we were ok. Manuel our driver was really nice and careful while driving. The food was good and flavorful. My only disappointment was that we only visit one place were we could shop and it was overprice. We visited other shops later on our stay in Puerto Plata and the prices were a lot more reasonable and affordable. Overall a great tour, one of the best ones so far.

A pleasant tour around Puerto Plata

Our tour guide, Saturnino, was very fun and humorous, and our driver, Ray Moudo, was very skilled and efficient. They arrived at our resort right on time, if not a few minutes early. Saturnino was very knowledgeable and we got lots of commentary about all the sights as we past them. We didn't end up going to the Amber Museum, but I didn't even notice because of all the other things we did that day. A traditional Dominican meal of chicken, rice and beans, and cold salads was included with the tour, and let me tell you, it was absolutely fantastic! I would absolutely recommend this to any first timers to the Dominican.

Great Tour! Delmis is fantastic!!!

This was a great tour, with some fantastic guides. Delmis (guide) and Roberto (driver) were great. It was very informative, and a pleasure to walk around some of the areas of the city while tasting cigars and seeing the sights and local people. The rum factory was cool as you get to taste 7 different varieties of rum (I hope you're prepared to do this early in the AM, lol). If you are a chocolate fan, you will not be disappointed by the chocolate factory either. The lunch provided was every bit as good if not better than what was provided at the resort buffet. I'm closing, if you are interested in getting off the resort for the day and learning about the local people, culture, and industries, this is a great option.

Great day at Puerto Plata

Fun in Puerta Plata

Gregorio the driver and Julio the guide were great. They make an awesome team. They were friendly and helpful. We went to so many places. One of the best city tours we have been on.

Day trip

Julio was very knowledgeable and so friendly and our driver Roberto, was a rockstar since the cable car was out of commission and he had to drive us to the top of that rock!

Julio was a great tour guide

Roberto and Julio were great! Julio took us around the city and was extremely knowledgable and made the tour wonderful despite COVID restrictions. The cable car was the best part of the trip. I would recommend the tour to anyone.

Wonderful tour

Domingo took us on the greatest little adventure. Cable car ride and city tour. Despite the rainy weather and a sore knee. Domingo made certain I was able to maneuver the stairs to the great statue and off and on the tour bus.

Ok tour.

I guess I was expecting a bit more than getting dropped off at a super market, jewelry store. It was average and I was expecting to see a bit more. I do believe that the super market that we went to over priced the the liquor. The jewelry store was ok, nothing over exciting. The fort was interesting, the head sets didn't work. The cable car was pretty packed, which was very interesting when you got to the top. Unfortunatley the weather was not in our favour. The city centre was interesting, happened to see a few cool things before we got to the centre. The guide was excellent but I would have paid a taxi driver from our hotel to take us on a tour.

Puerto Plata town tour

The best feature of the DR is its green green lush-green mountains.Its no wonder Cris Columbus said it was the most beautiful country he ever gazed upon. Beginning from the picturesque charm of port Amber Cove its easy to grab an air conditioned taxi and head out to the beach area or like we chose, to nearby Puerto Plata only 20 minutes away. The views of the rural stretch on the way were lovely,so much greenery and scenic splendor of a Caribbean isle.In the town, a visit to plaza San Felipe and Catholic church, the Amber museum which also houses a cigar factory,the malecon three mile beach front and shops of arts and crafts were added benefits of the tour.The town is surrounded by vibrant green mountains and palm frond trees. Amber is a semi precious stone that is varied in color and is mined in the mountains. The deluxe gift shop here is rather high end but across the way is a tiny stucco amber shop called "Yenny" where is prices are right.and the place to purchase souvenirs.Nearby is a cute alley way filled with hanging umbrellas turned upside down.The streets are narrow and winding and are hold your breath moments when driving especially when mopeds are factored in. The people are poor yet proud and cleanly dressed. Dominican Rep is a wonderful place to visit.

Great Tour!

Great day on this tour! Very educational. Visited an Amber Museum, the Fort, the city square, run factory, the Chocolate factory (which of course we loved), and the Cable Car which was amazing! Would highly recommend this tour!

Carlos and our driver Roberto where so amazing!! They answered all our questions, they are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. I would do another tour with them.

Wonderful

Expect to spend between 6 to 8 hours, but it is worth it. The cable car was an amazing experience and beautiful scenery.

Awesome time

Dan Marino was our guide and Bomba was our driver. Dan's knowledge of the history of the area was astounding, His english was excellent and he actually wanted to be corrected if words or pronunciation were wrong. He kept us entertained and was very understanding with a lady who was having some difficulties getting around. My sister in law who is nervous driving in the Dominican said this was the first time in 7 years visiting and touring that she was not afraid, Bomba was a very smooth very cautious driver

Was an entertaining and enjoyable trip dan Marino was our guide his history of events and items we asked about very informative our driver bomba wow!! Never seen a bus go that smoothly given the obstacle course that is Puerto plata. The only negative thing I can say is by the time we got to the cable car up the mountain the 1hr plus wait was not great. But I understand it has nothing to do with the tour company was just bad timing.

A Nice Tour

The tour was a bit longer than expected (8 hours in total) due to weather delays at the cable car station, but the activities were interesting and in line with expectations. The city has some beautiful areas as well as some "under construction" areas, which add to the charm of exploring. Be prepared to sip rum at 10am and to see an amazing collection of amber with various creatures captured in time. If you're over 60 years old, Dan Marino (yes, his real name) will treat you well - otherwise, you can listen in on the tour.

Enjoyed this tour very much. Just wish we had a little more time at the Fortress and when we got to the top of the mountain. Didn’t have time to see the gardens, or go into the fortress.

Travel time to this tour

We were told that the travel time to Puerto Plata City was 2 hours each way. It took 4 hours to get there 3 hours on tour including lunch and 1/2 hour to look around city on our own and 3.5 hours to return. The guide was amazing this was at the cost of US$175.00 each. We were promised a refund of 20% which was never issued even though requested several times. Never using TUI for tours again

Dan Marino made our day!

We had a fantastic start as we were warmly welcomed by Dan Marino, our guide, in such a friendly atmosphere as if we have known each other for ages. The guide and tour was extremely informative and entertaining. We were introduced to local culture, history and country industries: rum factory, amber museum, chocolate factory, fortress and a city market. Awesome ride in a cable car to the top of the mountain with stunning view of the city and the ocean made an unforgettable impression! Dan is such a warm personality and a highly motivated guide (recommended!). The atmosphere is so special that it really felt like at home to all of us. All respect for Dan who does a great job! Full Day of Fun!

We had a great time with Dan Marino & our driver Mennuel. The day was full of a great adventures in Puerto Plata. We ejoyed the entire day! We loved the cable car ride and the rum factory. Visiting downtown was nice we are not into cigars but enjoyed our lunch, the tour at the church and enjoying some icecream after a really hot day.

Great visit of the sites of Puerto Plata

Thanks to Nexus guide Sandy for an informative and interesting tour. We left and returned as per schedule and never felt rushed.

We had a wonderful time seeing the town of Puerto Plata. Fabio, our tour guide, was interesting and fun. He took us to the various sites and a guide at each location explained the highlights. Carlos was our driver, very pleasant and ensured our safety. The cable car ride to the top of the mountain is a must do! Beautiful. The cathedral and the chocolate factory were among in our top 3. If you enjoy Rum and Cigars you will also appreciate the factories. My friend is visually impaired and she loved it because there were lots of ways she could touch what was taught.
