Fun morning!

Such a fun morning. Mick and Josh were very helpful and accommodating. We all had a great time and managed to get lots of slides. Would love to do it again!!!

Terrible experience & Cheaters. Stay away from them

I am quite disappointed with their service today. I was suppose to attend 1 PM tour with my family of 4 and due to heavy traffic from Sydney to Port Stephens I was 15 minutes late and I was denied to attend the tour & completely refused for any rescheduling which resulted in the loss of my money. The approach of the person who manages this is very arrogant behavior and ZERO customer-centric way. He is only concerned about the filling his seats in the bus and making the booking full. Dont care about anything else. If you book with this company & are not on time you are going to loose your money & screw up your plan. BEWARE

Wow, this is so fun!

Had a great time, airconditioned van, super knowledgeable guide (Frank), and what a blast flying down the dunes on a sandboard! Highly recommend this tour, there is a little cafe and toilets nearby as well. Highly recommend this one :) Thanks for a great time, Frank!

Amazing tour

Amazing tour with Graham, so affordable and we all had a wonderful time. Graham was extremely knowledgable and added a lot of fun to the tour. Would highly recommend.

Very bad experience!

Had a very bad experience on our trip last weekend! So we were booked at 10am but arrived 15mins late and went straight to the red shuttle from Port Stephens 4WD tours. Two old blokes were there and the one I talked to said we could not do the activity anymore because we were late, he said there was nothing he could do and if we want we can book for the next one which was at 12:30pm. We were like "what??" we wasted money for nothing?? And there even weren't any other people there how come the next available time was 12:30pm?? We didn't know at first what the rules were so we felt guilty and just transferred to the other available tour provider we saw (Sand Dunes Safaris, which was great and highly recommended! Shoutout to our driver Max!) which were available right away at 10:30am on which we paid again. After the activity we went to lunch and we revisited the FAQs and saw this text "If you are late or early, it's not an issue as our 4WDs rotate every 10-15 minutes (Sandboarding Adventure)”. We altogether were so pissed off!!! We wanted a refund so I filed for one which is still pending to this date. Hoping we get it cos that would definitely suck more!

These dunes deliver

While this was a short tour it delivered what it promised and was great fun. The driver/guide was friendly, helpful, informative; his vibe added to the enjoyment of the tour. Riding the dunes is great fun!!

Loved our time, photos don't do it justice.

Really enjoyed the time there. Our guide Frank was kind, helpful and the whole experience was a blast. After we did some Sandboarding we went over to the ocean, dipped our toes in and went looking for "pippies." I would recommend you be in a general level of fitness for this, climbing up the sand dunes can tire you out, so just be ready for a bit of climb, but all in all, fantastic time.

The tour down to tin city was great Our driver was very helpful and informative lots of photo stops along the way not rushed great afternoon

Value for money

We went on a very low tourist season when coronavirus was around. Mark made the tour on for us although there were only 2 of us. Tour would normally on with a minimum of 4. Free water bottles on board. Michael had great hospitality and customer service. He was very knowledgeable and chatted a lot not only on the history of tin city but also his background to give the tour a personal touch. Sand dune is such a beautiful and natural scene. Sandboarding is fun and a good workout. The walk up hill on sand is only 20m. I’m afraid of height but I managed the excitement and did a few slides. I must say the first one was a little struggle for me. The hand position in face allows you to control the speed. So don’t hesitate. Go for it. What activity could be that affordable in Australia.

Funny adventure

Staff was really nice and helpful. Buses are driving you to the sanddunes whenever you like. The sandboarding is fun - but a bit exhausting, too, since you need to climb up the hill. Apart from the actual sandboarding you are in a nice scenery which is worth photographing. You can take a little walk around and enjoy the view. I would recommend it.

Great but...

The staff were very friendly, free water offered and 4wd shuttles ran every 10 minutes. What I didn't expect was the sand dune climb. Two adults and three kids (4-7 years old) and the trek up the sand dune was almost impossible. We did the sandbiarding 2 times max. I wanted to go the 3rd time but we were all puffed.

Not enjoyable

Better places to do it . There’s a lot of work involved for a minimum reward. Climbing up the dune takes a all the energy out of you and then you can’t enjoy the run down. If some sort off pulley system was in place would be 100% more enjoyable and worth the money and time

Great experience. Lot's of fun. 4WD TOUR was awsome and memorable. Sliding on sand is fun. Best place to go for a break.

Great staff

We had a bit of time To kill before flying back to Gold Coast. So we took our 12 and 7 year old boys. They had so much fun. I didn’t want to do and they were happy for me to go along the other company that operated from the same location wanted me to pay to sit in the car same price as boarding or the boys could go on there own? I went over to these guys and they were like climb aboard. Fun little drive out in the dunes, boys had fun we were still getting sand off them days later.

Fun day at Port Stephens Dolphins & Dunes by AAT Kings

The trip to the Australian Reptile Park was fun to mingle with the animals before we moved to Nelson Bay Marina to catch the dolphins. The last item for the 4WD of the sand dunes was short but fun for the sandboarding. Big thanks to the driver Ben and sorry for bringing the sand up in the bus. =p

Amazing day out for the family

We recently visited Anna Bay to take photos of the sand dunes and whilst there, do a bit of sand boarding. So we booked our tickets and hopped in for the ultimate adventure ride with Frank, who was incrediblly knowledgeable of the area and super helpful in guiding us to where we needed to go and get the best photos. Thanks for being our driver and guide Frank, you are awesome.

Duning with the family

The family and I Joined the team at the Port Stephen’s 4WD tour van near the sand dunes. We all boarded the 4WD bus and gently bounded across the sand dunes to find the largest of the dunes. With a quick demo of the boards and off we went dune sliding at full speed. We had a great time sliding and think we brought half the dune home in my shorts.

Lovely first experience sandboarding

Me and my friends went sandboarding as a part of our roadtrip and we thoroughly enjoyed our first time sandboarding. After a short briefing from the lovely staff you are basically free to go sandboarding as long as you want and the staff will take you back with the bus whenever you want: really liked the amount of freedom. The staff also really looks after the safety of all the participants of the tour. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who’s planning on going sandboarding!!

Great experience!

Sandboarding was really nice to do! I have never done it before, but the experience was great. I went with a group of friends and we’ve had a lot of fun. Even de drive to the sand dunes was a nice experience. The staff is nice and make sure you’ll have a great time!

So bad

Be careful, is not sandboarding it’s luge. The staff don’t let us try the sandboard stand up. They don’t let us do what they want, it was too strict. Good point for the bottle of water.

Great sandboarding experience!

Did the sandboarding as part of AAT Kings day trip to Port Stephens. First time trying sandboarding and it was great fun sliding down the huge sand dunes! For beginners, there’s a brief introduction to sandboard by the staff. Great experience in walking back up the sand dunes once one is done with the slide. Sandboarding is a relatively safe activity compared to winter sports eg skiing/ snowboarding, and can be mastered easily in sitting position on the sandboard. Thank you for the collaboration with AAT Kings!

Another awesome experience

I am a sydney based (amateur) nature and landscape photographer and the Sand Dunes in Port Stephens is one of my favourite spots. I did another trip there on 14 Oct 2018 to join the Canon Collective Group for a photography workshop at Tin City. We went there with the help of Port Stephens 4WD Tours. I believe the guy named Sean was the manager and he's very friendly and accommodating. I came back on the same day with my wife and son to do the Sand Boarding adventure and Jamie and Angus (part of the 4wd tours crew) were amazing. Sandboarding trip - awesome

Nigel the tour guide was really informative and helpful. The dunes were perfect after some rain and I flew over them! I highly recommend travelling with 4WD Sand dune company

FUNtastic

We did the educational walk followed by sand boarding. The walk was interesting and fun, particularly running and crashing in the sand (optional). The boarding was a blast and can’t wait to go again. The dunes themselves and the beach are fantastically beautiful and stretch for miles. So glad this tour was part of our holiday.

Highly recommended as the staff is great and you’ll have a lot of fun! It’s not expensive at all and the guide who took us back, sorry forgot to ask your name, took a little detour via the beach, as there were whales near the sea!!!

interesting

a four wheel drive adventure (4x4) through the sand dunes and along the beach. You can see people galloping with their horses along the beach. The tour stop at a huge dune so that we can have a chance to surf. No experience or coach needed. Just sit and balance your body on the board and off you go down the hill.

4wd Tour sand dunes

While it was a short Tour organized by the Coach driver that was showing us the Port Stephens site it was great fun. Well run and professional 4WD truck safe and well presented.Had and run up the dudes for a short stop thn along the beach.A must do

Great fun and value

Good couple of hours out. They offer to take you to the dunes whenever you arrive. Views there are incredible. Great activity to keep yourself busy, with a lovely beach to dip into. Good experience!

Lame sand dunes

We accidentally booked this operator, and while the bottle of water was appreciated, the dunes were really lame, to the point you had to push your way down. The other 2 operators had better dunes. If I did not walk over to the next operator, who thankfully did not care that I was there, it would have been a total waste of money. One of the other operator would not let me use "their" dunes, even when I politely asked. I would avoid the dunes in general.

A definite must!

This is a definite must if you visit Port Stephens! We wanted to try sand boarding and read the reviews on 4WD Tours so we decided to go with them. And they did not disappoint! On arrival the staff were so friendly, making sure we had water and sun cream before heading on the bus. On arriving at the sand dunes, the staff there were also very helpful. It is a lot of fun, make sure to wax the bottom of your boards to get some extra speed behind you! It does get tiring after awhile walking up the sand dunes, but you can spend as long as you want up there. So, we went up and down a few times, stopped for 15 mins and had water and a rest, and then continued again for another while. There were constantly buses going up and down, so you can leave when you want. Top activity, top company!

An unexpected adventure

We planned to just visit the 15km beach but with so many 4wd operators it seemed a shame not to give it a try. The guys at Port Stephens 4WD and dune surfing offered a good deal so we headed off for a short drive up the dunes to a high peak where Jono gave us instructions on how to surf down. A very safe environment with good equipment. Laughed so much and had sand in places I didn’t expect. You can stay dune surfing as long as you like and when ready, take the next 4WD back to the start point. A real must do if your in the area and I’d recommend the Port Stephens 4WD team.

Grinning

So much fun 😎 Easy going but pretty well organised bunch who came across as more than happy to get us onto the dunes. Fun shuttle across the sand out to the slide site then a quick, concise briefing on the do’s, don’ts & how to’s then over to us to climb the dunes. Happy squeals on the way down then face splitting grins at the bottom before trudging back up for the next slide. Wasn’t a long wait for the shuttle back to the car park. As if his sense of excited accomplishment wasn’t enough, Master 4 was presented with a ‘Sandboarding Champion’ Certificate to take home. A must do activity for ALL ages.

Awesome beach and sand dunes

Must visit place if you are in Newcastle. Beach is awesome with bful sand dunes and camel ride. Don’t forget to carry suncream. Big no to Nelson bay. Go one which is near Anna bay.

Fun but hot, suggest as an early morning activity

This activity is good value for money but if you are planning on doing it in summer, be prepared that it is very hot and there is limited shade. A suggestion to management, you need more than one sun shack for people to have shade and your staff crowding under 1 small umbrella needs to be looked at as well.

Not Recommended

We did sand boarding on 5 Jan 2018 with Port Stephens 4 WD and it was the worst experience. The sand dunes they take you too hardly have any depth and slope. We struggled to push ourselves down the slope. Their service and hospitality is great but their choice of dune is hopeless.

Fun in the sand

Fun but man it’s hard work trudging back up again! We went Sunday afternoon and paid $20 each and it was great. They drove us straight out and we had a go and then got exhausted and came back again. You can stay out there as long as you want which is good! You won’t want to though because it’s tiring! Staff all lovely. The Hill Itself we didn’t go very fast and the boards are narrow and I kept going sideways, but it’s possible I’m just bad at it!

Great fun activity, go early for quieter session!

Highly recommended activity, very fun for all ages. We got there for when they opened at 10am,and were the only ones there for the first 20mins. Great to have the place to ourselves, definitely recommend going first thing for a quieter trip as it started ti get very busy by the time we left. We spent an hour here and could have spent longer. Definitely worth the money and the guides are very knowledgeable about the dunes so do ask questions!

Alright.

Was just transport and providing sand boards so I thought it was a little overpriced. Plus when I called they said they had a group of 238 coming. It was fun but was challenging to climb up the sand repeatedly. Suited for the young at heart.

We went sandboarding this morning and it was absolutely brilliant. Fun was had by adults and kids alike. Highly recommend!

Mark Murphy made this trip the best thing​ so far in Australia! Knowing the history behind this made is so much better! A suggestion, have fun, relax, go again! And you don't have worry about injuring yourself. The sand is remarkably soft. The beach behind the hill is absolutely breath taking! Kids and adults can do this easily.

Loved it great family fun

We recently went sand boarding with Port Stephens 4WD Tours.It was great fun .The sand boarding was fast and furious with lots of laughs and exercise .The 4WD trip back down the dune was fun as we went down a drop off with the big red 4WD.All the staff were friendly and totally professional Great Value Action

Terrible service from Mark [-]

So what an ordeal. We booked over the phone yesterday for a sand boarding experience, and that was a pretty smooth, exciting process. Maybe this company should just deal with bookings over the phone. Because when we turned up the next morning to collect our tickets, it all changed. Mark [-] was behind the counter, clearly devouring more than his fare share of oats and banana. He continued to argue that we never called him the day before, questioned who we spoke to the day before (difficult as we don't work there) and then happily rubbed his belly to confirm that he was on duty all of yesterday. He asked for a name. We kindly gave it to him. He didn't want to listen to me, so then said "write it down". So we did. In block capital letters. He then argued how the booking must've been for a previous booking. A bit backwards, we thought, considering we called in the evening. I've never dealt with such rude, abrasive and down right disrespectful service from someone such as Mark [-]. He is quick to judge and appalling at correcting a situation. He then spoke over us and realised he had made countless errors on our booking. So shoved us away with our tickets in the end, with little, to no direction of how to reach the sand boarding tour we had paid for. Luckily when we arrived at the beach, the staff were much more friendly and worked well to help us get to our bus for our sand boarding. My advice would be to avoid Mark [-] altogether, and consider using another service. They would turn out cheaper, and you would be left less insulted than we did.
