Solar Whisper Daintree River Crocodile and Wildlife Cruise

Crocs up close! Great tour!

Excellent cruise! My wife and I did the 60 minute morning tour in early June; both the time of year and time of day turned out to be great as we saw 7 or 8 big crocs hauled out on the bank, getting out of the cool winter water to warm up in the sun. Our guide was super informative about everything crocodile, as well as the general river ecosystem, with some dry wit sprinkled throughout. The Solar Whisper is indeed quiet, which not only avoids alarming the crocs as we glided in close, but allowed the guide to talk without amplification. The boat also produces almost no wake, and of course no oil/fuel, so there's minimal impact on the mangroves compared to the gas-powered boats.

Exceeded Expectations

Expected big things from this cruise after great word-of-mouth feedback from friends who've done it before, but would definitely say my expectations where exceeded. I did the 2 hour cruise. Crocs were plentiful, from a hatchling to a 4.7 metre behemoth and others in between. Crocs seen swimming, fishing and also basking on the river bank. They were able to be viewed from a nice close distance, but never so near as to disturb the animals. Very respectful and accompanied by a great commentary from skipper David which was informative, sometimes funny and never intrusive to the quiet enjoyment of the experience. As a bonus, I was (unexpectedly) allowed to take my small, well behaved dog on a leash aboard. She enjoyed the cruise from my lap. All in all I would certainly recommend this cruise. Great tour

The tour was great and we were lucky that "Scarface", the biggest and oldest, laid right around the first corner...and lucky that most of the crocs were there...The guides see a green snake, frog, right in the middle of a green tree.....just trained guides

Amazing experience.

Amazing tour, our guide was well aware of the river and the crocodiles. Perfect place to experience to have and see the animals in their natural habitat.. 👍🏼

Beautiful crocodile experience

First of all a big thank you to David who welcomed us very well with Douguie, David took us into a wonderful world, he made us discover the river and the crocodiles with passion. We was lucky enough to see crocodiles snakes and frogs ! There is a camera on boat if you can not see an animal, they show you on TV, like this everyone can have a wonderful experience. I recommend this place this place as much as I can, that just was amazing so THANK YOU SO MUCH !

Great experience, highly recommend

Had a great experience with Solar Whisper! We saw several (big!) crocodiles and also got some very interesting information and stories about the salties & Daintree river. Small company and most eco friendly one so would highly recommend opting for Solar Whisper!

Great day

Our tour guide - David was very knowledgeable about the river & the crocs that inhabit it. We seen two big males resting on the bank & 3 females. Plus 2 tree snakes & birds. David was also very funny and made it a great one hour boat ride.

A whole lotta croc

The guide was super experienced and knew all about the local crocodiles and where to find them - even the baby crocodiles hiding on the bank. There was a friendly dog on board. Smaller boat which meant that everyone was able to see everything. We saw about 5-6 crocodiles of all shapes and sizes. Highly recommend this tour.

Full electric quiet boat

Great experience , the guide was great! We seen a lot of crocs and a lot of info was given. The boat is full electric so is very quiet.

The Solar Whisper was a fantastic experience. David, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. A wonderful, informative 1 hour cruise along the Daintree riverbank where we were able to see many crocodiles in their natural habitat. We enjoyed the boat, the length of the tour and everything about it. Highly recommend.

Great tour

Our tour guide was awesome and we saw a bunch of crocs. The boat was quiet and free of fumes unlike the other loud boats in the area. I enjoyed this tour a lot.

Very good trip saw lots...

Very good trip saw lots of crocs and our guide very knowledgeable. Saw Scarface and Forrest together and then another croc Margaret came along! Great to see the interaction. Also saw a number of other crocs, eagle and kingfisher.

Awe-inspiring tour!!!

Wow!... certainly a trip to remember. Was in total awe with the wildlife on the river, from baby crocs to big daddy scarface, birds, crabs and more. Even if we didn't spot them ourselves the tour guide was more than on point with spotting them and very informative and knowledgeable. We felt like the team had a total respect for nature and their outlook was inspiring. We cannot thank them enough for the wonderful experience we had and had shared with other people. Would certainly recommend to everyone.

Absolute must-do!

This was our second time here and it was even better than the first time. We brought our friends out this time so they could experience this as well, and will definitely be returning in the next few months! We saw several crocodiles of all ages, as well as a tree snake and some beautiful kingfishers. Our guide was nice and knowledgeable, and was very helpful and did his best to get us to see all the crocodiles we could in an hour-- and we saw a lot!

Knowledgeable and professional crew

Very professional and knowledgeable crew. Thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hour experience and we were shown lots of crocodiles from newly hatched to larges males and an assortment of other wildlife.

Safe, informative, friendly, entertaining experience.

Our skipper was great. Thoroughly enjoyed his friendly commentary. Saw 3 cross and a treesnake. Have a lot more respect for crocs. Young guy at meeting place was very hospitable and entertaining while we waited for the start of the tour.

Our family of 5 went on this tour. The checkin shelter is decorated with beautiful sustainable art pieces. We loved tour guide, Dave with his sidekick, Dougie (the dog). The boat was smaller and quieter than others on the river which gave you a closer view of the crocs. Lots of great crocodile facts were shared. We saw 3 crocodiles, a green tree snake and two kingfishers. I highly recommend this tour!

Great, simple, perfect crocodile tour.

Fabulous short tour - really straightforward but highly specialised. Fantastic tour and boat leader who has been doing this work for over 20 yrs. His experience, knowledge and gentle manner was genuine, authentic and well suited to the tour. His care and deep regard for crocodiles was obvious and welcome. A great tour.

Perfect for Croc sighting

We saw three crocodiles. The tour guide was very well informed and it was a very relaxing tour. I would highly recommend it.

Highly Recommend to see Crocs!

Great experience and seen a lot of crocodiles and went in the best time due to them wanting warmth on the banks, highly recommend and guide was great and learnt about crocs without realising!

Great experience for all. The boat was so quiet and relaxing. Our guide was not only extremely knowledgeable but very friendly and quite funny. He knew all of the crocs and we ended up seeing 6 total on our trip. Very cool to see them up close and in their own environment.

Awesome croc tour

We loved the tour and it was very informative. They have a camera on the boat to show smaller animals on a screen, which is a plus.

Great river cruise

We had a great 1 hr cruise down the river. We were super lucky to see quite a few crocs lounging on the banks. Even if you didn't see any it would be a nice relaxing hour

Amazing time! Dave was so informative and we saw lots of cool stuff. Our kids (6 and 8) loved it too. We also really liked that the boat is electric.

Solar Whisper Croc Cruise Daintree River

Absolutely fantastic. We were lucky enough to see a few crocodiles including a big male about 4m long, and a young croc. The guide was brilliant - and was super at spotting the crocs. This tour is worth every cent.

Definitely the best croc tour in the area

Really great trip. Very knowledgeable and respectful of the wildlife. Much better than the other croc tours I’ve been on. Highly enjoyable.

Great crocodile spotting, environmentally friendly

A really excellent and inexpensive tour of the Daintree River and its wildlife, including of course some might crocs. The skipper was highly knowledgeable and an expert helmsman. We chose Solar whisper because they practise what they breach - battery powered boat, zero carbon. Couldn't recommend them more highly

Huge croc sightings

The boat was clean and comfortable, and our guide was very knowledgable and friendly. We saw two very large crocs, a nice sized female, and a baby. It was nice to learn so many croc facts and you can tell this operator really cares about the Daintree and the wellbeing of the crocs.

Great tour!

Saw multiple large crocs and a baby croc. Also the staff told us about the tree frogs, and other nature like birds/snakes. He was great as he was incredible with his eye sight to see lots of nature

An amazing experience

Our guide was fantastic and funny. He knows a lot about crocodiles, and about the other animals and nature that we can meet along the river. We had the chance to see 5 crocodiles, even though the weather wasn’t so good. And our guide explained a lot of things about their way of life. It was very interesting. In 3 words : it was perfect. Highly recommended!

We had an incredible tour down the river and saw a number of crocs, including the largest one I've ever seen (around 4.5 meters). Our guide had in-depth knowledge about the animals and the surrounding nature. Greatly appreciated that their boat runs on electricity. Highly recommended!

Good company

We saw 3 crocs on our tour. One was called Scarface. Bring a poncho in case it rains. The guide was patient and made sure everyone saw the crocodiles.

Dave was a great host, funny and informative. Was really well done and you can feel his love for the crocs. Extra bonus having Dougy his dog on the tour with us who was lovely

Great eco friendly tour with very knowledgeable guide. Learned a lot and spotted lots of crocs up close without disturbing them!

Strongly recommended

Highlight of our trip. We were impressed with every aspect of the tour, from the interesting facts about the animals, to the equipment enabling you to get the best experience out of the hour. We were lucky to see a couple of large crocs, but it was also the background stories about the animals, the info about the area that was an added bonus, eg the sugar cane fields, the ferns on the trees. Travelling from the UK it was all new to us. We saw a few interesting animals, snakes and frogs, and it was made easier to see with green laser lights and also the onboard video camera and screen. It was lovely to hear the passion of the guide for the wildlife and protecting the habitat.

Awesome croc cruise

Absolutely fantastic experience! Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly and he knew exactly where to look for crocs. We saw 3 different crocs and they were so close. The boat was comfortable and the group was small so everyone could see. Highly recommended. A++

A must do activity in the Daintree, run by great people.

This is one of the must do things in the Daintree area. All the staff were really friendly and the guides were knowledgeable. We had several tours most of which were with Marc, who was fascinating to listen to, and was clearly very passionate about wildlife and croc conservation, which is always reassuring when doing any kind of wildlife tour. You have to be prepared for the fact this is tour is trying to view wild animals in their natural habitat so there's no guaranteed sightings . Our first tour we only saw juveniles, but we still saw tree snakes and plenty of bird life. Luckily we had booked several more tours and managed to see large female salt water crocodiles as well as a big scrub python. The boats are arranged so everyone is sitting on one side so there's no need to scramble for a seat nearest the water. Being a photography amateur enthusiast, the great thing about this tour for me is that the operators are keen photographers themselves. Marc was great at ensuring I had good lines of sight and enough time to get shots of everything. These guys are doing genuinely great work in helping local wildlife, and championing the cause of crocodiles.

Didn’t see a big one, but still appreciated the tour

I wish the tour was longer so we could have had a better opportunity to see a larger crocodile! While I do appreciate that the tour guides cannot control nature, and I appreciate that their goal is to work WITH nature and not attempt to control it, it was a bit of a disappointment that we drove around 1.5 hours each way from Cairns with little to show for it. Regardless, Mark was an amazing guide with such a great respect for crocodiles and the outdoors, and what little there was to see, we definitely saw it! We did end up seeing two baby crocs and a smaller adult female. We spent like 10 minutes looking at a Kingfisher, which was cool to see in person and not just on TV. We came late April 2024, and I get the sense that they were still recovering from the massive flooding that had occurred several months prior. I think the landscape had changed due to the floods, which limited the expanse of river the guides could cover in the time frame allotted. There is a guarantee that you can go on the next tour if your tour is unable to see a large croc. However we were the last tour of the day, and we didn’t want to drive several hours again the next day and skip our previous engagement just to roll the dice again. We’ll consider our tour fee a donation toward what these amazing guides are doing in educating the public about how to respect nature properly. The other croc tours had very loud boats and guides yelling over loudspeakers, which I can’t imagine the crocs enjoy. Would recommend Solar Whisper for any future croc tours.

Amazing host, outstanding experience.

Dave was a hugely knowledgeable host and the time spent on the Daintree was an amazing experience. We didn’t anticipate having the opportunity to get so close to the kings and queens of the river.

A Great 1 hour trip

Very nice tour to see the crocodiles in the natural environment. We have seen 4 crocodiles, one of them over 5m long. The nice Dutch guide was chatty and informative. Highly recommended.

Great Trip!

What a great trip! Our tour guide was very informative and was very knowledgeable about the crocodiles and the Daintree River. We saw 4 wild crocs! 1 big boy 1 medium female and two little babies, it was so enjoyable to see them in their natural habitat rather than at a zoo or sanctuary so it was an overall awesome trip!

Amazing Crocodile cruise

Amazing trip, saw a lot of wildlife including a large crocodile up to 4.5m. Would recommend to anyone wanting a nice trip on the lake looking to spot some cool wildlife!

A great way to fill in an hour.

The Solar Whisper was a good choice as it was a small quite vessel, able to get up close to the Crocs without disturbing them.
