Kuranda Day Trip from Port Douglas by bus

A must do!

Firstly, Glen was a super guide - on time, friendly, funny, informative, and helpful. Brett, you should pay him more (and he didn’t ask us to write that!😬). We were picked up at our Palm Cove accommodation for the 20-minute drive to the Freshwater train station where we took the 90-minute trip to Kuranda. The old but beautifully restored train carriages were comfortable and the views along the way were breathtaking. The narrative during the trip was interesting and informative. We tried to upgrade to gold service at the station but it was booked out well in advance, so if you want that service, as Brett's to book ahead. We had two hours in Kuranda before Glen took us to the skyrail station for the return down the mountain. Again, there were beautiful views and a chance to get out of the cable car briefly at two stops for sightseeing. Glen met at the skyrail station and drove us back to our lodging. We were picked up in the morning at 9:00 AM and returned to our accommodation at around 3:15 PM. The cost was $210 per person and was well worth it. The gold class trip on the train costs an extra $55 per person above what's included with the tour package, and you can also get a cable car with a glass floor for a bit extra (don't know how much). This was a wonderful experience.

The best day

Amazing tour and awesome guide Chris. Was such a great day and we even saw a cassowary. The entire trip was just such fun and finished with a lovely cocktail at palm Cove surf club. A great end to a great day thank you Chris you were fantastic

UNESCO Kuranda Forest. Sky train added bonus.

This was a shore excursion. Enjoyed the sky train , Kuranda forest , Butterfly. You get to see alot on a shore excursion day. Well organized. Lunch on our own in Kuranda. The big highlight is actually the UNESCO rainforest. This sky train you can see how immense and how deep the rainforest is. Several waterfalls. Make sure you bring a hat and bring your sunscreen. At the top of the sky train you could see the port and the ocean. Beautiful!

Beautiful place to visit, eady yo get yo by car and a fantastic drive to get there either by the coastal road or through the hills

We had a great trip to Kuranda with Brett's Tours! It was our last day in Cairns and we were desperate to do the train and skyrail however they wouldn't allow us to leave our baggage at the train station so we thought we may have to miss out. Brett and his team stepped up to help us out stored our bags for us and sorted the whole trip out. We can't thank you enough and we had such a good time on our last tour before heading back to the UK.

Mixed bag but that said I would do it again.

We loved the sky rail and enjoyed our short walk around the rainforest. Then we headed over to Kuranda Village. We had originally intended to go to Koala Gardens but we arrived late and we missed our reservation time. That can happen so we just strolled around the village instead. It was nice but not what I expected. I thought it would be a lot of homemade goods but it was a lot of shops and food to go places. Then we went on the train ride which was very cool, through the rainforest. It was very informative but also very long.

Adventure day

Brett was really friendly, only a small group which was just lovely. It was disappointing that people are allowed to smoke on the cable car walk, markets and lunch were great,and the stop off at the local pub broke up the trip

Worth a visit

Pick up from local hotel bang on time, great, informative, very funny guide. It’s a long day but worth it. The railway is a very long, old train and passes waterfalls and other very scenic route. Each carriage has a toilet.

Wow

Amazing beauty and scenery. Learned quite a bit about the area train ride was fun, but sky rail beyond words. Was able to see the entire Kuranda area for miles. Brett.well suited for dealing with all types of people. Highly recommend.

Kuranda fun

Had the best time going through all of the little stalls. Butterfly house was so beautiful I spent a couple of hours basking in the sun with them.so much to do & see.I had to go back the next day.

A Great Day Out

Had a great day with Chris and his co - guide Bosun. Picked up at our accommodation and driven to the Skyrail terminal, then a short orientation drive on arrival in Kuranda, driven back to the railway station for the trip back to Freshwater, a stop off in Palm Cove for a cocktail and delivered back home again - all done with lots of laughs all the way. I definitely recommend doing the upgrade on the train - great drinks and nibbles all the way back down - and very comfortable seating too. Thanks to Chris and Bosun for a fabulous day and to Leone and Andrea for your help and friendly responses to my queries beforehand.

I loved it!

I booked this tour at the last minute and in a rush that i missed the request to take part the scenic train ride. The tour guide had ensured i received a ticket with the rest of the tour guest. The tour guide is very friendly and shared lots of information about the history and location. I enjoyed it and would recommend it!

What a fabulous day ! Picked up from our accommodation door by Chris, who was a fantastic, friendly informative guide for the whole day. The scenic Railway and cable car ride were both exceptional experiences that exceeded our expectations, and Chris made the whole process seamless and easy. Credit must be given to Brett's tours for enabling this day as our attempts at booking this online elsewhere had proven almost impossible for unknown reasons. As far as we are concerned that played into our favour as there is absolutely no reason for using anyone but Brett's tours for this. Fabulous, friendly, professional. A great day.

Top Notch!!

This is an absolute must! Not only was the train and sky rail wonderful but our guide Chris was the best! We learned more on the way to and from our adventure about the area from Chris. He took the best care of all of us with a personality that you will all enjoy (my triplet boys and nephew thought he was the bomb)! This is definitely a MUST! Thank you for a great experience!!

Excellent day tour with Dale. Very knowledgeable & good driver. Apart from the rain we loved the tour. The sky rail was amazing with fantastic views. We up graded the rail to Gold Class. Glad we did . Service of drinks & afternoon tea good. Would recommend this tour.

Fantastic day - highly recommend this company!!

Fantastic day from pick up to drop off!! Glenn was fun and informative and took care of everything. It was great knowing we didn't have to worry about driving, parking, collecting tickets, queuing,.. The day was perfectly organised. Glenn pointed out features of the countryside which were interesting and entertaining- not your usual annoying commentary. He dropped us off at the door to the Skyrail and ran ahead to grab our tickets. No waiting and a gondola to ourselves - which we loved. Beautiful scenery and enough time for a little look around on the way to the top where we were to meet up again. A quick drive around town to get our bearings and then a few hours of leisure in Kuranda. We had a beautiful pie near the meeting point - highly recommend it!! Then pick up and drop off at the Kuranda Scenic Railway. The highlight of the day! We paid only $50 extra p/p to upgrade to gold class and the experience was worth it - great service, yummy cheese, crackers, nuts and quite a few sparkling wines and beer. The decor is lovely and it was all so special. Finally a stop in Palm Cove where we had a drink and chat before the drive home. Pick up and drop off at our hotel - and all on time. A fabulous day and I highly recommend the company! Thanks Glenn.

Great day out!

We had a great time on our trip; went on the Kuranda train (plus upgrade), spent some time in the village, and went on the skyrail down. It was well worth upgrading on the train - very comfortable with free-flowing drink and snacks. Views were wonderful!. Our guide for the day was Dale. He was full of information about the area and clearly loves where he lives. His stories were informative and entertaining and definitely helped pass a long-ish bus ride. Would definitely recommend this trip.

Spectacular scenery and unique village

Beautiful rainforest and falls views on the sunny afternoon. You might be hungry if you don't order your food by 2pm in a village. Lots of aboriginal art galleries and unique jewellery shops.. Relaxing scenic train trip. Great experience. Highly recommended.

Great way to see Kuranda

I booked directly with the company rather than through a third party website and would always recommend this, as another couple on the same tour had been told by a third party booking agent that they could not be collected at the same accommodation I was staying at and had driven into Port Douglas. The trip includes the price of the Kuranda Railway and Skytrain tickets. Brett collected me promptly from the place I was staying, with most of the other passengers already on board. The bus took about 20 people. We drove down the coast towards Cairns with Brett pointing out interesting views and giving us information about the area and some local issues. On the Kuranda Railway you sit in allocated seats. The view on the Cairns - Kuranda journey are mostly off to the right hand side of the train with passengers seated on benches for four people, which means that there is only one person per bench who is really able to take decent photos. But the trip was really interesting nevertheless, and as the train was not full I was able to move to a seat opposite me so I was travelling facing forwards rather than backwards. We had two hours free time in Kuranda to mooch around the markets, which are spread out throughout the small town, or to visit the butterfly farm or bird house. I visited the butterfly house which was quite entertaining and had some lunch at Le Petit Cafe which serves really nice crèpes. Unfortunately it started to rain quite heavily which curbed my mooch around the markets as I didn’t have a waterproof with me. From Kuranda town, Brett escorted us all to the start of the Skytrain. Sadly it was still raining quite heavily so although we went on the Skytrain there was poor visibility through the rain and fog. The weather is not the fault of the tour operator however! On the way back to our accommodation we stopped at a surf club in Palm Cove for a drink. All in all despite the weather I had a great day and would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a trip out in the Port Douglas area. It would be possible to have done the trip myself in a hire car but Brett was a very informative guide.

Great day out

A great chance to explore Kuranda. We had been on the train and Sky rail previously, so skipped these this time. This allowed us more time to explore Kuranda and have lunch.

Kuranda Day Trip (Brett's Outback Tour's

Brett’s Outback Tours: Chris our driver/guide and his little co-pilot Boylston, made the trip very informative on the way to the Sky rail. Chris treats his guests Fairly, friendly, and perfectly. Chris is keen to make the tour is organized. Chris is organized, and very punctual. Chris was scheduled well, was on time. We didn't miss anything during the tour program. Chris is very humorous. We met Chris the first time, and we felt we knew him for long a time. Also, the time at Karanda was enjoyable having plenty of time for lunch and then jumped on board the historic train and getting off at Freshwater yes guess who was waiting for us Chris & Boylston then we all jumped in the bus and attended the Palm Cove S.L.S.C to have a few ales what a great day thanks heaps Chris. Buy the way if you haven’t done the outback tours which I have done two of them I strongly recommend you give Brett’s Outback Tours a call a great experience and the tours are great value for money. Excellent trip, our second. 1st 2 years ago. We splurged and went Gold Class on the train trip, well worth the value.

Lovely day out to Skyrail & Scenic Train

Chris our driver/guide and his little co-pilot Boylston, made the trip very informative on the way to the Skyrail. He ensured that the day was well planned and extremely enjoyable. It was great to be picked up and dropped off at Kuranda. Chris also had some great recommendations for lunch in Kuranda. Would have loved a little more time in Kuranda but can't help the train timetable. We stopped for a drink at Palm Cove Surf club which was great, it was the first time in Palm Cove, we loved it!

Kuranda Scenic Railway and Sky Rail day tour with Brett

Really enjoyed Brett’s Kuranda day tour yesterday from start to finish. Brett collected is from our hotel and gave a full tour commentary all the way to the Kuranda Scenic Railway where he then sorted everything out for us, all we had to do is sit back and relax. I’d highly recommend upgrading to gold class on the train, having done both options it’s easily worth that but extra. The sky rail down afforded spectacular views (as did the railway) and Brett was at the bottom waiting to greet us back onto the air conditioned bus. A relaxing cocktail / beer stop on the way back to Port Douglas and dropped off at the door. If you ask my kids what their favourite part of the tour was they would say “Brett”. Brett clearly loves what he does and that comes across in his knowledge, attention to detail, he has a theory about everything, and he’s just downright funny! A must do trip … read on !

What a fabulous day out … our tour guide Glen was fantastic… full of information and fun true stories … sky rail was awesome… get off at each stop and rejoin!!! Kuranda was lovely … little Market town… take quick lunch if on a schedule then head off to shops. Then down the valley on the train … pay the extra for gold class … well worth the money if you like a beer or wine !!!! Spacious and the lovely IC serving you … it’s the best experience! Topped off with a drink in palm cove. Was super day out thank you ! Glen was brilliant!!!!!

Great trip with excellent driver and guide.

Brett was informative, witty and patient! An ideal driver and guide who made the day fun despite the disappointment of Skyrail being cancelled because of the bad weather. We had upgraded to the gold package on the train which was will worth it as we were treated like royalty. Kuranda itself was interesting, with options to visit a koala park or a butterfly sanctuary as well as look around the town and the hippie markets. Sadly, the rainforest did what it does best …rains and because of the risk of lightning, Skyrail cancelled the gondola rides. However, Brett then took us to Palm Cove Surf Club for drinks or beverages and pointed out the creeks and rivers with crocs in them, (we saw one!) before dropping us off. I should add that he immediately told us that we’d be getting refunds for the cancelled element of our trip. I would definitely do it again if we returned to Australia … But not in the rainy season!

Good day out, comfortable and informative.

Although we did not take the Sky rail or train we still had a lovely day visiting Kurumba with Chris as our driver. He was very articulate and imparted lots of knowledge about the rainforest . He was very friendly and went out of his way to be helpful with hints and tips about the area. As the train could not run we went to see Barron Gorge National Park which was spectacular, Thoroughly enjoyed our trip!

Perfect day activity 🌿🌴

We did this activity on our last day in Port Douglas and we loved it! It was such a cruisey trip there and our tour guide Dale was fantastic. The train was cancelled the day we went due to the amount of rain, but they were kind enough to offer an alternative at Harley’s Crocodile adventure. My partner and I had already done this, so we were fine with a later pick up time. Dale stopped at all the lookouts and gave us a great rundown of the history or each town. The sky rail was beautiful and the falls were absolutely breathtaking!!! Also loved going into Kuranda and having a look around. We stopped off at palm cove which was a nice break from walking and driving. The cocktails were delicious 🤤 Definitely recommend people to do for a day activity as you see quite a fair bit!

Great trip

Chris, the tour guide picked us up on time at our apartment in Port Douglas. He gave us an entertaining running commentary of the areas we were passing through. The train trip was very memorable and one not to be mssed. Unfortunely, due to storms in the area the Skyrail leg of the trip was cancelled. Despite the cancelation I would definitely recomend this tour.

Glenn our driver was amazing. Super helpful and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Port Douglas! We also upgraded to the duck tour and habitat sanctuary- I’ve never seen koalas that awake and kangaroos up close! Amazing experience

Kuranda day tour

My daughter and I had a wonderful day. Great service, on time, care taken, fun had! Chris found a great balance between being informative and allowing us to explore ourselves. We felt we were in good hands.

Kuranda from Port Douglas

What a great day! We were collected promptly from our Port Douglas Apartment and we were on our way. The driver was so cheerful and informed us of snippets of information on our way to Cairns. Once at the Sky rail I found the process of getting on our car hassle free. What a sight above the trees we had. We hopped off at one of the stoops to get a closer look and a toilet stop before rejoining the sky rail Once in Kuranda we found there was a variety of cafes for lunch and a visit to the markets before heading the short walk to the train station. There were clear signage to show the way. The train ride down was full of great views and we were kept informed via the PA of the history of the line. Once we reached our station we were once again met by our cheerful driver for the short drive to Palm Cove where we had a break for a snack and drink at the surf club before returning to our Port Douglas accommodation.

Fantastic day out

Great day out with our extended family group. Chris the guide made our day with his stories and singing! They thought of everthing to make for a perfect outing.

Chris was our tour leader for the day and from start to finish he made this trip something special and unforgettable in a great way, his attention to detail as well as so much local knowledge added so much to our perfect day. Always made sure we were where we needed to be and tickets to things ready and waiting for us. Completing our day with a lovely drink on the esplanade a Palm Cove before dropping us all back to our various accomodations in Port Douglas. Great driver, fun and rainforest

Chris was incredibly informative and engaging as our driver and guide. We were picked up promptly in a very comfortable 20 person vehicle and carefully navigated through our journey to Kuranda by Skyrail— exhilarating and given a good amount of time for a lovely crepes lunch and visit the Koala Gardens and fun hippie shops. The train ride down the mountain gifted us with extraordinary views of Barron gorge and falls.Then we rocked out to great tunes on our way to Palm Cove where we stopped for cocktails at Life Saving Club. We thoroughly enjoyed Chris and the tour and will be recommending to my clients.

Great Day out

We had such a great day with Bretts Kuranda tours. We had Anthony as our guide, and he was fantastic. We were planning on just doing this trip ourselves, but our accommodation recommended we do the tour and were grateful that we did. We took the skyrail up and the train down. Great scenery. Unfortunately, the actual markets were not on the day we went which was unfortunate, but we still wandered around and had a great time.

Excellent day out worth it in every way

The entire day was so much fun. From the pickup at our accommodation to the Kareoke on the bus coming back. Chris our driver was the best he was funny and very informative on everything we did on the day. He gave us very clear instructions about how and where we meet after each point. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone. Kuranda is a lovely village to look around with lots of food options for a nice lunch. The train ride is great and the Skyrail on the return trip was fantastic.

Great trip, throughly recommended. Brett picked us up on time from our hotel. We were taken from Port Douglas to the train station where Brett got us all boarded with tickets in the same carriage. The train to Kuranda was excellent stunning views and good commentary with a couple of quick photo stops on the way. Brett met us at Kuranda station, gave a brief overview of the village and arranged to meet us a couple of hours later, giving us ample time to enjoy a leisurely lunch and look around the shops etc.He then escorted us to the sky rail, again ensuring we were all aware of the process. The sky rail itself was amazing. Despite Brett having a few issues with his bus, he kept us all well informed and never wavered from his enthusiastic commentary and jokes.
