Fantastic day out - Loved it!

Wow - what a day out on the reef! The ABC Snorkel team were amazing, from the inital booking to talk through my questions and options if the weather was bad through to the actual day itself that we are still pinching ourselves over how much fun it was. We got incredibly lucky to have perfect weather, but the crew made the day even better with great insights all day long from Paula, Jason and Callum and creating a fun and postiive atmosphere that made us sad to have to come back to shore. Getting entire sections of reef all to ourselves on the small charter was the perfect way to experience it. If you are looking for a more personal experience on the reef, jump straight in and book with ABC. The price might be a touch more than the big charter companies but it was well worth it and we will definitley be back. Thanks!!

Amazing day with ABC snorkel charters

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience snorkeling the amazing Great Barrier Reef. Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teen girls) had an absolute blast. The individual attention is absolutely worth the cost for this once in a lifetime experience. Our guides were fantastic and no details were overlooked from start to finish.

Incredible experience

I’ve been to the reef a few times, however nothing compared to this experience. We saw a green sea turtle and reef shark within the first half an hour, which was incredible. Being in a smaller group meant that the areas of the reef we visited felt undisturbed and peaceful. We didn’t rent a go pro, but one of the instructors was kind enough to send us a clip of the sea turtle. I’d strongly recommend renting a go pro, it can be easy to forget how spectacular the reef is. The marine biologists on board were highly knowledgeable, experienced and attentive. My partner had some trouble swimming, yet the team were very helpful and had floaties available to help. Strongly recommend booking this trip, you will not regret it!!

Wonderful experience

We really enjoyed the trip (notwithstanding my daughter getting seasick!). The highlight for me was the small groups and the considerable knowledge (and passion) of the team which resulted in what were almost personal tours of the reef. It also meant things that in other groups you simply wouldn't see, were pointed out. It was amazing for my young son (aged 10) who was able effectively to hitch a ride with the expert so it was an amazing experience for him. Were we to go back to the reef (fingers crossed 2028) we sincerely hope ABC will still be there doing the same thing! Thank you very much.

One perfect day!

The perfect snorkelling adventure. Apart from the perfect weather and conditions, it was the facilities and crew that made for a perfect day. The crew are very knowledgeable and experienced, hold degrees in marine science, and by taking small groups, can go to places the other companies dream about. The gear was relatively comfortable and fit well giving hours of trouble free snorkelling. Callum and Sam were the perfect guides. Loved it!!!

Do it Real 💜

Bucket List Day: saw reef sharks, turtle, eel and so many tropical species that I never want to see another tropical fish tank. To take these beautiful creatures from this environment and stick them in a tank for our visual curiosity is just cruel 🙏🏼 do yourself a favour and do it real 🫶🏼

TOP CLASS OUTFIT

I have snorkelled previously from Port Douglas but in a larger group. Never again. That’s why I chose ABC to ensure a small group experience. The boat is a well proven Steber 48, stable and fast and with plenty of deck space. I had some concerns about climbing on board in view of age mobility, but these concerns were needless. The combination of well designed ladders, marlin board and grabs is perfect for people like me with mobility issues. Plus ready assistance from the crew. The staff are first class, highly professional and while they did not make it obvious, their attention to detail on safety of the group was first class. They took a close watch on the group at all times. So the operation is hard to fault, but at this price I expected a higher quality of food. The somewhat dry chicken roll and some biscuits were fine, but average. But this is a small point compared with the quality of staff and their interaction with guests.

Even six stars would not be enough

Just came in from a day on the reef with Sam, Callum and Paola and Skipper Jason. Honestly, do not go anywhere else!! The 3 guides are all marine biologists with so much knowledge and wonderful at explaining. We saw so many species and they were pointed out so we didn’t miss any highlights amongst all the colours. It felt so friendly and personal. Each guide has a max of 6 snorkel lets in their group you don't have to be experienced or a strong swimmer, they have thoughtful ways to include everyone. I am very overweight and not very fit though I love swimming - I was worried they wouldn’t have wet suit to fit me but they didn’t bat an eyelid and the suit I was given was just right. Callum and Sam couldn’t have been more attentive at making sure everyone’s gear was just right for them. You can hire a GoPro on the boat to film underwater - personally I wanted to focus on seeing the experience not filming it but I can see why people do film - it is mesmerising! Look at their gallery and you’ll see. One important note - this small business - just the 4 of them - can take you places the big groups can go because of the number restrictions to protect the reef. And of course marine biologists are excited every time they go out on the reef and take you where they know the good sites are. They also record what they see every time they go out as a living lab / monitoring contribution to research data about the reef. So whilst we’re having the blessing of a responsible reef experience, these guides are helping we humans understand the reef and our impact. Listen, I could go on, it was fantastic and I am sooo glad we paid a bit more for such am unforgettable day with ABC Snorkelling.

Fun and Well Run Day On Outer Reef - Highly Recommend

Great day on the outer reef! On-time, professional, informative, safe, and fun. All equipment nice. Sam and Callum were excellent guides and know a lot. We saw some rare animals including a lion fish, octopus and shark. Highly recommend. A well run operation and interesting guides. No other snorkelers around but the 12 of us on the boat! Included: Tea/coffee and small chocolate after first swim. Lunch sandwich, water, and cookie after second swim. Briefing on reef and marine life. Extra: You pay extra if you want alcohol, soft drinks, chips, and reef safe sunscreen. And there is an $8 for reef entry fee.

ABC Snorkel Charters - exceptional tour

We’ve done a lot of water tours (fishing & adventure) in the past but have never experienced the level of attentiveness that we did today with Sam & Callum. Both are Marine Biologists so we had a really good briefing on our journey out to the reef & also whilst in the water snorkelling. All snorkelling gear was in great order, clean and functional & they make sure it fits correctly prior to entering the water. ABC also offer prescription goggles & have a range of different ones onboard for you to use, this was fabulous as I could see all the coral and fish clearly & was so grateful they catered for this. We snorkelled 2 sites and saw no other boats nearby. This combined with the fact that there is max 12 passengers means you have 1 marine biologist per 6 people and it feels like a private charter. Sam & Callum were constantly checking in with everybody all day to ensure their equipment was comfortable and making sure everyone felt safe. Morning tea was lovely with pastries, tea & coffee, lunch was fresh chicken salad baguettes, (I’m vegan and my options were delicious) afternoon tea fresh choc chip cookies. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough, in fact we tried to book it again for the Monday but it was sold out. A magical experience for our wedding anniversary.

If you want a once in a lifetime experience, go with the ABC crew. Sam, Callum, Paula and the Captain could not do enough. From the fun briefing on the way out to the personalised marine biologist guides (yes they are marine biologists) with the ratio of 1 marine biologist to 4 passengers was incredible, they stuff they spotted and showed us cannot be matched by larger less personalised alternatives. In all things in life, you get what you pay for. In this case we got the bargain of the century. It’s worth every cent. So personal! Book regardless of skill level

BOOK THIS! We are a family of 4 (teens 14, 16) with only one of us having snorkeled in the past. We had a group of 12, with 3 enthusiastic, knowledgeable marine biologists on board. They divvied us up into groups of 6, and to our favor, we were with 2 very independent divers, so we essentially had a private guide! Some of us had problems (*shave facial hair!*) and some got tired, but we always felt safe and still had a wonderful experience. Skip the monstrosities and go with a family business! Sam and Callum were amazing and everyone will make sure you have the best time.

What an amazing day with ABC! Honestly, the level of friendliness, expertise on the reef and experience surpassed our hopes. Sam and Callum, as guides, were amazing! They stayed with us through the snorkel pointing out fish and coral and truly gave us an experience we’ll never forget. Family of four fantastic snorkeling day trip.

We had a fantastic day snorkelling with abc. Three members of our family were anxious at the start of the trip, but by the end of the trip all three said they loved the snorkeling out on the reef. The crew are great, they give you lots of information about the reef and the marine life while travelling on the boat and are in the water with you giving you more information and assistance if needed. Being a small group of people on the boat you get plenty of laughs.If back in Port Douglas we would book another trip with abc. Thanks Jason, Callum and Sam.

Simply incredible!

It was just stunning! The crew provides so much information and you can really get a rough idea of how this extraordinary ecosystem works. While your snorkeling they guide you and point out special things that wouldn’t have seen by my own. That makes this experience so much better than the other more touristy trips, which we did before. Also it is in very small groups, which makes it more personal and you get the chance to go to other places in the reef where the big tours can’t go. It was a once in a lifetime experience and was definitely worth the money !!!

Amazing day on the reef

What a great trip on the reef. The nice thing about this company is they are small boutique and able to go to the reef to many locations depending on the conditions of the day. They have two marine biologists on board for guided tours and maximize every moment in the water. A maximum of twelve passengers gives an extreme advantage over the bigger operators for a more personalized tour. Highly recommended 👌

Do not hesitate to book with ABC. We have been snorkelling on great barrier reef various times and honestly this was the best. Firstly there are only 12 people and the crew but you still have enough room for everyone on the boat. They take you to places that larger boats don't go. We didn't see anyone else! They are passionate in marine biology and you actually get to learn a lot. You are split into groups of 6 (if the boat is full) and we had Callum. He was amazing pointing out amazing things to see and gives you a run down on what you are looking at. We saw so many amazing things because of this. Also the best coffee and jokes at the GBR :-) Absolutely a most memorable experience. It really felt personal and we felt comfortable and safe throughout. For less experienced to more advanced we recommend them highly. Thank you for a fantastic day out :-)

Fantastic day with fun marine biologists Sam & Callum. We visited 2 great sites- with completely different collections of animals and corals- showing off some nice diversity. This tour provides a nice long time in the water, thoughtful, knowledgeable and fun guides, and with a group of 12, we were thankfully not herded with hundreds of other guests. This week we were very fortunate to spend the day with Sam, Callum and Jacob from ABC Snorkel Charters in Port Douglas, heading out to snorkel Queensland's Great Barrier Reef once again. Being marine biologists, both Sam and Callum were incredibly knowledgeable, with many years of experience between them, which made our small group adventure so much more interesting and fun. They take time to teach, visit, and make sure you have everything you need to feel safe and enjoy the trip. I learned a ton, saw unbelievable reef life, and will remember the trip always. I’ve been to various parts of the reef on dive trips, snorkel trips, sailing, fishing. I’ve been on the big, fast boats. But when it came time for me to show my American daughters the reef, I wanted to make sure they had the best experience, with the most pristine coral, the widest variety of wildlife. ABC might be a bit higher priced, but if the Great Barrier Reef is a bucket list item for you, then do it right. See it at its best and understand why it is such a precious ecosystem. The people at ABC are the ones to show you.

Best GB Reef Snorkel

If you’re looking to snorkel at the reef, this is the best tour to book. We liked the small group / boat atmosphere and the ability to go to more unique places at the reef. Sam, Callum and the Captain were such a treat. Would 1000% recommend.

Best on the Reef

Took Dad out to the Great Barrier Reef for his 60th (it’s always been a bucket list experience for him) and I couldn’t have asked for a better company to go with! Having a small boat with limited passengers and the best crew makes all the difference! Sam and Luke were excellent guiding us through the reef and Jason is a pro skipper! 10/10 recommend don’t go with the big companies if you are wanting proper snorkelling!

Awesome small group snorkeling

The snorkeling trip to the Great Barrier Reef was incredible. The boat and experience was exactly as described, and just having 12 passengers was perfect. The boat, captain, snacks, and drinks were top notch. The 2 guides, Callum and Sam, were awesome-expert marine biologists and scuba/snorkeling guides. They were great in making sure everybody saw as many different marine critters and coral as possible during the two 90 minute snorkels. This was one of the highlights of our month-long trip to Australia and would highly recommend it to anybody.

Dream Come True!

Our trip was a dream come true: To become one with one of the natural wonders of the world. As a frugal traveler, I paused before booking this slightly more expensive tour option in the area, but the other boats had 85 or more passengers and, because of the size of the boats, have to stick to a limited number of reef sites, or a pontoon. I knew that, with a maximum of 12 passengers, we would get an intimate, personal tour of the reef. Please, if you are at all on the edge of this splurge, do it. You’ll know immediately that it was worth it. A few days before, the weather looked iffy, so I reached out to the owner. His local knowledge of the offshore weather patterns alleviated my fears, and his predictions of a great day on the water were spot-on. Our guides, marine biologists Sam and Callum, are examples of two people doing exactly what they should be doing for a living. Passionate, educated, knowledgeable, and personable, they were keen to share their love for the Great Barrier Reef. It is clear that there is no place they would rather be than hanging out with regal angel fish, pineapple sea cucumbers, and harlequin sweetlips. Our trip out to the reef included a talk about the wildlife we would see as well as instructions for snorkeling, so that we could get right to it as soon as we got to our first spot. Once in the water, Sam and Callum each took 6 of us so that we could snorkel in two small groups. Callum pointed out fish and coral, told us interesting facts about them, answered specific questions, and helped us cover a large area of the reef so that we could see many varieties of fish and coral. No matter what someone asked, he knew the name of it. He encouraged us to try free diving to get close up views, giving reminders about the safest way to regulate on the way down. Likewise, he made it accessible and comfortable for beginners and those that weren’t strong swimmers. Noodles were provided for those who needed a little more floatation, and he offered to tow anyone on a float if they needed a break. Again and again I thought about how different a tour with a bigger group would be. We were kept happy back on the boat between sites with drinks, snacks, and lunch, and enjoyed chatting with the other people in our group. Our seasoned captain, Jason, was excellent, and ran a safe boat. For those who get seasick, they had medication, which I recommend, as it was a bit rough on the ride out. I worry on tours that there won’t be enough time to really enjoy it, but we had two very lengthy stops and I felt fully satiated by the end. The highlights for me were seeing many Giant Clams, which were beautiful and so stately; seeing a Sailor’s Eye (largest single cell organism in the world!); the beautiful colors of the coral; the lovely movements of the soft coral; and listening to the sounds of the constant action and activity that occurs under the surface of the sea. I am So grateful to have had the deeply moving experience of seeing the Great Barrier Reef, and appreciate that Callum and Sam added so much to it. I will never forget it.

Fantastic & Lovely Marine Biologist Guides. Highly recommend!!!

Sam was incredibly knowledgeable. It was an absolute pleasure spending time on the boat with him learning about the Reef and what we could expect to see. Sam and Luke guided the snorkelling and pointed out many incredible fish and coral along the way. We were lucky to have a small group of 8. The day was super fun! They cater for all levels of experience and have pool noodles and life jackets for those less confident. Lunch was nice, and they made coffee for us on board. We feel very lucky to have chosen ABC to take us snorkelling. Thanks Sam, Jason and Luke!!!!

A must do!

Excellent from beginning to end. All staff were very engaging, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the reef. Despite the weather not being optimum, the crew’s knowledge and experience of the reef still made it a very memorable and rewarding day out. As members Sam’s team we even got to swim with a turtle! Brilliant trip! Small group tour and Sam and Callum gave us so much information. The highlight was the turtle we saw which we’ve got footage of on the go pro which you can hire. I’d definitely recommend booking with this company.

Amazing crew!!

Callum, Sam & Jason are legendary! We had such an amazing time exploring the Great Barrier Reef behind their expertise and passion for the ocean. They made us feel safe and comfortable the whole time and educated us on the all of the sea life that we would be seeing on our tour. They had various masks and flippers fit everyone and, even when my partner got tired, Callum escorted them around the reef via a tow cable to make sure they could experience the full excursion. Great energy, great folks and great afternoon!!

Amazing - go!

Can highly recommend this tour! Sam and Callum are great - they are super knowledgeable and you can feel that they care about making it a great day for every single guest. We were the only ones on the reef spots and it felt so special and amazing to snorkel in so beautiful sorrundings! We saw plenty of colorful fish and corals and we learn a lot about the reef during the tour. This snorkel tour was def a highlight of our trip. Thank you!

Nearly private snorkel so worth it!

What an amazing experience on the reef! Our trip ended up having only 6 people aboard, but we still had two biologists in the water at all times. Briefings on the reef and on the marine life before the snorkels were great and Callum and Sam continued to answer questions throughout the excursion. We had both snorkel sites all to ourselves and they were both phenomenal. Sam also gave us all kinds of suggestions for other activities in the area. I know there can be sticker shock from the price, but if you are traveling from overseas this is likely a bucket trip event— spring for the best experience!

Lovely small group Snorkeling trip

Selected this trip due to reviews & small numbers of people only on board. Three (3) crew were very knowledgeable (all marine biologists) and made the day as good as they possibly could have done. Started early from the dock (approx 7:45am) which meant that the sea was calm on the way out. Visited 2 snorkeling sites, each for over 1hr - Chinamans Reef & one other. Weather up until this day had been bad with large swells & winds. The day itself was nice, however, the swell was still a little high on the reef & visibility not great (maybe 3-5m) Managed to see a turtle, a reef shark, lots of fish, clams & had the 2 reefs to ourselves. The trip covered all snorkeling equipment including stinger suits, lunch & drinks were also available for purchase on the way back. Go pro's could also be hired. Although more expensive than many other charters (e.g. Quicksilver), the experience was better as plenty of time on the reef, not being rushed & one guide per six (6) people in the water pointing out fish. Day would only have been better with better visibility & calmer conditions which could not be controlled by the crew.

SPECTACULAR!

Thank you so much to Sam and Callum for providing exactly what we were looking for as a snorkelling tour. Both informative and witty, I loved their delivery of what we could expect to see on the reef, and once we were in the water, the information continued to flow. You will see a coral and sea life wonderland. They know their stuff (marines biologists), so if you want more than just a day out snorkelling, I can not recommend ABC highly enough. They are great fun, very smart, and make your tour feel like it has gone way too quickly. Highly recommended 👌 👍 💪

The BEST snorkelling trip of our 5 week travels (and we’d already been 3 times before in different locations)!!!

We decided to go with ABC for our fourth and final snorkelling trip as the reviews were so positive and our previous snorkels with other companies hadn’t quite given us the experience we were hoping for. We couldn’t be more pleased we chose to go with ABC and can’t thank Sam, Callum and Jason enough for making the day so relaxed, special and an overall highlight of our trip. Sam and Callum are both marine biologists with a wealth of knowledge and experience that they shared with us both in and out of the water. Without them, there would have been so many amazing marine species that we would have missed and honestly, no other company we have experienced thus far has provided us with so much engaging and interesting information. They were always open to questions and it felt like they were just as keen as us to learn and see the reef. We were taken to tongue reef on our trip - one of many reefs that most other boats/companies have no access to, meaning that the marine wildlife is less disturbed and therefore promotes natural marine behaviour. As you aren’t sharing the water with 400+ other people (yes - some companies will take this many!), you truly get the most authentic experience of the Great Barrier Reef. We were lucky enough to see turtles, reef sharks, endangered and rare barramundi cod, clown fish, parrot fish and so many more reef fish. We know this is not guaranteed but really felt that ABC offered the best opportunity to be able to see such beautiful animals and the coral. ABC are hands down the BEST company to go with it you’re after a really magical time on the Great Barrier Reef and we are already recommending them to our friends who have trips to Aus planned over the next year. Thank you again Sam, Callum and Jason!

Amazing and personal

An absolutely great outfit! First of all Jay, the owner, did a great job scheduling us around the bad weather and got us in before we had to go home. Then… we had an awesome day on the Great Barrier Reef with Sam Callum and Captain Jason!! Sam and Callum (both marine biologists) told us about all the sea life on our voyage out there. Then they both went in the water with us and pointed out the many wonderful sea creatures we would have not normally seen. With only 6 people per group it was like a private tour. We also got hot drinks, a morning pastry and lunch and cookies! To make our memories last longer, Sam sent me some of the close up photos and videos he took on his go pro. We definitely recommend ABC Snorkeling!! The small group made it the best. It is well worth a little extra expense. Would go again in a heartbeat

We had a fantastic day on the reef. I cannot recommend this company enough. We learnt so much and saw so many things. Callum was an exceptional guide. He went above and beyond to make our day amazing. Cannot thank the crew enough. We have ( many yrs ago) been on the “big” charter boat out to the reef - and looking back - it was underwhelming. I would recommend this tour to anyone. My teenage girls had a great time too.

The best!

The coolest experience I've had! The guides were knowledgeable, engaging, and very accommodating. The food on board is great - from a local cafe. There's beer and wine for purchase as well. They make sure you're gear is working - mask defogged and snug. They encourage you to ask for help anytime to ensure your experience is the best it can be. I felt very comfortable. And the reef..... you just have to see it for yourself.

Worth every penny!

What an amazing, personal day. Our boat was alone at the reef we went to. We went to 2 locations and spent about an hour at each one. Captain Todd and marine biologists Sam and Callum were knowledgeable about the marine life and reef. With only 11 people on the trip, we snorkeled in a small group of 6 with Sam as our guide. He made sure we all saw the fish, coral and giant clams. We even saw a shark!! They have vision-correcting face masks and personalized the gear we needed. When we were cold, they gave us a second wetsuit so we were more comfortable. It was absolutely worth the money for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Great Barrier Reef!

Like going on a National Geographic excursion

This is probably the best snorkeling experience you are going to get in Port Douglas. Is it pricey? Yes, but it's worth it. Three very knowledgable and extremely nice gentleman work on the boat and they are like peanut butter and jelly together. You want to feel like you're on a National Geographic show? Book this. You want to actually know what fish you see and how they behave in the water? Book this. Your guides attention to detail for every guest is extraordinary. They treat you like you're a family friend. The equipment you use is also COMFORTABLE, from the wet suits, masks, and fins. Also a plus, you want that sweet footage of the reef, fish and yourself? They got you covered with Go Pro's. Also a plus, the boat is covered so you're dry and out of the direct sun for the most part. They also provide snacks and a sandwich that were very tasty.

Don’t look anywhere else. Calum and Sam make the day truly remarkable! They are so fun, very knowledgeable, and make sure everything is taken care of. It was such a cool experience to have them out on the reef with us showing us animals that we would never have seen! It was worth every penny and we will definitely use them again!!

Sam, Callum, and Capt Jason crew were superb! This small charter is the best experience available by far. Special rovng access to the Great Barrier Reef meant our crew could pick a variety of spots to go based on conditions. In the ideal small groups (6 per guide, with only 12 total!) this experience was remarkable and incredibly personable. Sam, our small group guide, continuously shared his extensive marine biology knowledge on the fly as we snorkeled over coral lagoons and caverns always taking time to point out specific coral and fish species, take pictures and address all questions. Callum was equally helpful and we celebrated our experiences across the entire boat as we relished the fantastic day. Cheers to this phenomenal crew! This was a true lifetime experience we can't recommend highly enough!! Best Day Ever!!
