Enjoyed the history lesson but obviously was there for the food. The speciality food stores we tried I know I wouldn't have experienced if not for the tour. Highly recommend if you have a few spare hours on your next trip to.Paris

St Germain Walking Food Tour - Just do it! You won’t be sorry!

The Paris Saint Germain Walking Food Tour with Marie was the best tour of all those our group did during our 2 weeks in France. The information our awesome guide shared about France’s cultural and culinary development shed light on all the delicious foods, and wines, we got to taste. I highly recommend this tour both for the food, and for the history behind it.

Not up to standards

Etienne was a fantastic guide but this tour was not well thought out in its design. We have done several Secret Food tours around Europe but this one did not impress. The drinks were all at one sitting at the end of the tour at a Basque restaurant. While Basque culture is an important part of French culture, it doesn’t really have a place in a St. Germaine food tour so that was quite disappointing (though the food was authentic Basque). Most of the sweets were at the beginning of the tour so we both started off with a huge sugar headache. Moving forward, we made several more stops to pick up bread and cheese (with no samples) and then finished at the Basque restaurant where we ate foie gras and bread that had been purchased earlier along with our first wine. Another wine came along with our main dish from the restaurant (a choice between 3 dishes). Another wine came with the cheeses from the shop earlier. Our dessert from the pastry shop we visited towards the beginning of the tour was served with a sweet wine that was part of the drink upgrade. Finally we were served a Basque digestive that was our other drink upgrade. One of my favorite things about the secret food tours is the pacing of the foods and walking but that did not happen on this tour. A lot of walking with little food and then a “4 course dinner” with A LOT to drink at the end. This tour needs to be redesigned to meet the usual standards of Secret Food Tours.

An amazing experience

Absolutely amazing - surpassed all expectations. Stephane was an exceptional host and we had a small and lovely group of people with us on the tour. Really got an exceptional insight into both the history of Paris and of French cuisine. Couldn’t recommend this highly enough.

Delicious food tour with Leo

We spent a lovely afternoon with Leo as he shared his knowledge of food and the city of Paris. We had heavenly caramels and macarons before ultimately sitting down to a delicious Parisian lunch of meats, cheeses and other treats. Paris is a wonderful food city and this tour gave us a sample of some of the reasons why.

All the cheese

Our tour guide, Marie, was absolutely lovely. Kind, friendly, informative, entertaining... just... _everything_ you'd want in a guide. Then. THEN! You add in caramels, bread, cheese, wine? Let's just say, if you aren't booking this tour, you might want to generally examine how you're living your life. 😀 Truly, though, fun experience. Great food. Good for couples, friends, families.

Must Do When in Paris!

Food was awesome and plentiful . Stephane was awesome. Very knowledgeable and numerous Highly recommend. Well worth the price. I would even do it again. Thank you!

I enjoyed the tour guide he was very knowledgeable. I also enjoyed all the samples. It was great trying foods for the first time. That being said I believe I spent 150.00 for the tour that is too much for what you get. Just my opinion.

Standing on sidewalks

Lots of talking and standing and after 90 minutes and a shortbread cookie handed to us from a bag, a caramel and a macaroon, we decided to go find our own entertainment. It’s just not interesting enough to stand on the sidewalk and listen to him talk. I wanted to taste food. Maybe the rest of the trip was better but the first 90 minutes wasn’t and I walked away from all the money paid and found my own cuisine.

Great food tour. Native Parisienne Nana was charming and informative. She provided insight into some of the nuances of French food and food merchants.

Great food tour in a perfect french neighborhood!

Leo was great. gave great historical info of the area, gave great food info regarding the different French shops ie. pastry, chocolate, bread, cheese etc. lovely lunch meal with all the extras we bought around town! def recommend and Leo was very nice, communicative and knowledgeable.

Great food, great guide!

This food tour was amazing. I took my 10 year old daughter and she had a blast as well. Leo was very knowledgable and created a great experience. I would do this exact tour again.

Delightful, relaxed and delicious

Nana was an excellent tour guide. We ended up with our own private tour and we really enjoyed it. We were initially concerned about a three+ hour commitment but the time flew and we had a great time. It was the perfect combination and amount of food, too, and I appreciated how they accommodated the non- meat eaters of the group.

The Secrets Food tour is an absolute must do

The Secret Food Tour was a must do according to our Travel Advisor and it certainly did not disappoint. Leo arrived, immaculately dressed in vintage clothes which added to the conversations and created the right atmosphere. Although the weather was damp, our enthusiasm was high and we were amazed by the history of the area, the shops, and the food which we sampled. Arriving at our final destination we sat down for a meal including the items that Leo had acquired from many of the shops we visited. His explanations and history lessons were so enthralling that we consumed each portion of the meal with a new perspective and gained a better understanding of French food. This tour is a must do for anyone visiting Paris.

Good food with a nice walk through St. Germain!

A nice twist to a tour that really ends up being a full meal in a restaurant with plenty of delicious wine! Leo was an excellent tour guide!

Wonderful experience with Stephane

We had the best experience with Stephane. I have done many such tours and this was one of the best. He was a fanatic and very knowledgeable guide, telling us about all the things we would try and why and about the St. Germain Area too. We got to sample several of the best caramels, fabulous chocolates, he took us to the famous Poliane bread where we laughed because our friend carried all five loaves, and was happy to do so - it felt very Parisian. We sampled unusual special flavors of macarons at another place and a wonderful fromagerie. He very clearly explained all the spots we would be making stops at, then we were treated to a delicious lunch (taking into account two of us being vegetarians), that included some of the items we picked up along the way and dishes from the Basque restaurant. There was champagne, white and red wine, dessert and we lingered asking Stephane questions beyond our allotted time. He encouraged us to ask anything, even sharing about the school lunch system which is fascinating. He had two assistants in training with him who were both knowledgeable and lovely. There was a couple on the tour from Dallas that ordered food at the restaurant then left before it even arrived without telling any of us or the guide then wrote a bad review. Please know that this is a delightful experience and maybe if they had stayed they would have realized how nice the lunch was and a special opportunity to socialize.

Paris St Germain's Neighbourhood Comes to Life Through Food and Stories

Marie's a charming and knowledgeable guide and we had a great time learning about the neighbourhood and sampling artisanal bread, caramels and macarons along the way. The 5 course lunch with paired wines at Osaba was delicious and gave the group a chance to share stories and get to know each other. Highly recommend!

Fantastic tour and guide- real French experience!

We had a fantastic tour this week with Stephane in the St Germain district of Paris. He was an insightful, thoughtful and very knowledgeable guide whose goal it was to introduce us to Parisian food culture. I attended with my two children- one teen and one little one. He was funny and insightful and we learned so much! Like: who don’t the French put bread on their plates, about foie gras, cheeses, French culture, customs, etc. . . My kids and I loved him and loved the food as well. The tour group itself was a mix- there were some great people who were fun and lively and also a real drag of a couple who seemed miserable and like they weren’t really open to the experience. I felt badly for the tour guide because they just abruptly left with no explanation after ordering their food. It was really rude and understandably distressing for our guide. We made up for it and had a wonderful time after they left! Lots of great food and interesting conversation was had by all. I highly recommend this tour and this guide if you want a real Parisian cultural experience with a great guide!

Informative, funny, delicious, would 100% return and great for families.

Stephane’s tour was a wonderful and lively, and showed me, my mom and sister a sweet collection of wonderful patisserie’s, Boulangerie’s and cheese shops with great quality making it quite the memorable experience. Stephane himself was very down-to-earth and humorous and had great knowledge of each location and the St-Germain area. We finished at a wonderful restaurant with private upstairs seating and a great Paris street view. It was a beautiful 80 degree day out and with the windows open it was quite a comforting environment. We dined well and all throughout the tour Stephane was very friendly, funny, charming, and informative. Overall the experience was 5 stars and I would happily do it again if I ever return to Paris.

Eat a big breakfast if you choose this tour!!!

We certainly don’t understand the 5 star reviews here. We’ve been on multiple food tours over the years, and this was by far the worst. We can’t help but feel this was due to our guide. When we were walking about prior to our tour, we spotted an individual walking and wondered if it may be a homeless person - lo and behold it was our guide! He looked completely disheveled - maybe it’s a Parisian thing - but certainly not a good impression from our perspective. The guide was certainly knowledgeable. But don’t come hungry to this tour. Our tour started at 11am and at 2:15 minutes into the tour we had a total of 1 shortbread cookie (that the guide brought in his backpack to start the tour), 2 caramels, and a macaron. We stopped at a supermarket for 15 mins so he could go in and buy us all a small bottled water. Then to a bread store to get some baguettes. Followed by a cheese shop to get some cheese. All to be had as “dessert” later on. My favorite was that after the bread store he promptly handed off the bread to one of the tour guests to carry. Even though he had 2 people tagging along as “in training” guides. We walked for what seemed like days on end to where we finally went to a restaurant and went upstairs to a confined space with one window. Mind you it was a beautiful, sunny 80 degree day that day. We were given 3 options to choose for our “secret” meal - which was to be split between every 2 people. He then said to please “give him some time for the food”. He then kept encouraging that this was the time to gather and get drunk. Mind you - we do drink - but he even kept encouraging the mom and her 16 and 8 year old children to drink. It was just off putting. Maybe his idea is that people will be famished and get drunk easily with no food yet in their system to skew their view on the experience. It was at this point that we left and walked a few blocks to an outdoor cafe to enjoy an amazing and authentic French meal while enjoying the beautiful weather out on the street rather than a musty 2nd floor attic. For $150 per person - they were investing about $30 max per person from our calculations of looking at the prices in the spots visited. Save yourself a lot of time, money, and hunger and just sample the same things on your own. We went back to the baguette place he stopped at later in the day since we didn’t get to try it - nothing missed here either - the bread direct from the store was bland and tasted old. Checking TripAdvisor after the fact - it only got 3 stars as well. You can find and do better on your own.

Best Food Tour

Wonderful tour! Our guide Leo was phenomenal. We’ve been on a LOT of food tours and he was one of the best guides we’ve ever had. Loved walking around and sampling, and then delightful to sit down for a proper meal at the end. One of our favorite experiences on our Paris trip!

Great guide, but the tour fell flat.

Alex, the guide was great. Very friendly and informative and did a great job. Unfortunately, the tour fell flat and that the lunch was promised and that’s not the case. The food was secondary to some of the architectural reviews and we were hoping for more of a food tour. The downside came when two plates of chicken were put on the table to share about 12 people. Would not repeat.

It was all good, with the table setting the best. The guide had made us all som comfortable that we shared travel stories and our current adventures. His narrative provided great new learning and created good conversation.

Definitely worth it!

Yesterday we did a Secret Food walking tour of the Saint Germain des Pres area. Our guide Baptiste did a wonderful job of guiding us through the back streets telling us the history of the area. The starting point was easy to find with very good directional instructions provided before the tour. The walking was done at an easy pace and the stops were well worth it. We didn't sample food at every stop but rather collected food along the way which became part of our 5 course lunch in a Basque restaurant at the end. The food was exceptional, not rushed and our group of 7 for the day all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Baptiste our guide was knowledgeable in history, food and the area, he was a delight. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to everyone.

wonderful experience, nice way to get into French culture

Thank you very much Marie for sharing your taste of good food ! A lot of informations on food processes, how to choose, what to avoid, and how to get out of touristic tracks. Marie, through this tour, tells us a bit of herself and her family which is a very nice introduction to French life. She also creates the conditions fo a good atmosphere among all the participants, which makes the tour even more pleasant. I recommend (the tour and Marie ;-)

A great way to get to know the neighborhood of Saint Germaine.

Baptiste was fabulous. Very prompt, super smart and informative. Also funny and a very good sport. We went back to St. Germaine the next day, we like it so much.

Secret Food Tours does it again!

What a great tour, only 3 of us, was so personal. Our guide Baptiste was fantastic. What I truly appreciated about this tour was Baptiste's knowledge of not only the food but the history. We have had guides on other tours where they are literally memorizing wikipedia but not this tour. Baptiste was very educated and knowledgeable which made this tour top-notch! He was super friendly, our group was never rushed. I think overall a little more history about the wines that were paired and the regions (and map) they come from, why they were paired that way would be helpful.

Amazing! Tour Experience With Stephane!

Stephane was an excellent guide our stops for tastings were well planned out and tasty and the last stop for lunch and drinks was delicious, I can highly recommend the tour, especially if you are lucky enough to have Stephane as your guide

Best food tour!

A fantastic tour! Stephane did an amazing job telling us about the history of the food and the area during the tour. The places he took us during the walking tour had delicious treats. The lunch at the end of the tour was terrific as well, it was a lot of fun meeting and interacting with all the participants. Since there were not 12 of us, the small group made conversation and question/answers a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this tour and look forward to trying some of their other tours.

A delightful tour

Such a fun tour with Leo! We really enjoyed exploring Saint Germain, tasting sweets and collecting ingredients for a fabulous lunch. Leo was very personable and knowledgeable and made the entire experience a delight. We can't wait to do another one of these tours.

An afternoon of eating and drinking with a guide who knows his stuff…what more could you ask for?

Leo was an excellent tour guide. On a dreary and rainy winter day, he was ready and waiting for us. We were most fortunate to have him all to ourselves. The pace and content of the food tour is perfect in my opinion. Every item we tasted along the way to lunch was absolutely delicious. Learning the history behind every item we sampled was so much more of an added bonus! Lunch was very satisfying and each course was explained in detail with a perfect wine pairing. The restaurant was quiet and pleasant, also very clean restrooms close to the upstairs dining area. We would 100% recommend this tour if you are visiting Paris and want to enjoy a lovely afternoon eating and learning history of the food. As an added plus, the shopping in the area is great and we found several unique locally made items to take home at the Bon Marche department store and gourmet market.

An excellent and must-join tour in paris

It was a wonderful tour. In Paris it’s hard to find “something authentically local” in Paris. And the tour gave us a detailed explanation of the city of Paris, its history and culture. The best thing was that they introduced one of the best macarons and gummies (it’s not gummy but don’t know the exact name). It was absolutely original in Paris and of course tastes excellent. I dared to get back to those shops and buy one for a gift for my family.

Nana introduced us to new treasures

Nana was an enthusiastic and informative guide. Her love of Parisien food was evident and contagious. Great new finds for our next visit. Food and wine were more plentiful than expected - and delicious.

She was extremely knowledgeable about all of the wonderful history of Paris whether it was the food we tried, the neighborhood we we walked through or any conversations or questions you had. A highlight of an incredible trip!

Our tour with Stephane was genuinely a highlight of an already great trip! The pace & format of the tour were perfect, & it was nice to learn so much in a relaxed & conversational environment. We've been sharing all of the fun facts with friends at home since our return, & only managed to wait a week before recreating as much of the meal as we could! We hadn't taken a Secret Food tour before, but really loved the experience & will be seeking them out wherever we travel next. The only advice I have is to book the tour & wait to buy souvenirs until you're on the tour bc everywhere we stopped had the most incredible options!

A highlight of our stay in Paris

Our guide Alexandre was knowledgeable and entertaining. We were in a group of 7 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience - learning about the history of the area and eating amazing food!! A highlight of our trip.

Fun and Informative Tour

Our tour was lead by Leo who did an outstanding job leading my wife and I around Saint Germain. We learned a lot from Leo and had some rather tasty foods. Some of the highlights were the cheese and macrons.

An excellent, delicious and educational tour of culture and culinary delight.

Stephane was an excellent guide, and the experience was the perfect start to our stay in Paris. The experience was tailored to the audience, and as we were new to Paris we had a lot of history and cultural discussions, as well as the local food! The first part of the tour was around several local shops for sweet treats and to collect the goodies for part two. The second part was a chance to sit in a relaxed restaurant setting and be served all of the goodies we had collected, along with so much history and culinary detail - Stephane knows so much more than you’d expect from a tour of this kind, and was fascinating to talk to. The wine flowed along with the chat - making a very European gastronomic experience and a total pleasure. I recommend this as the best way to begin any trip to Paris - and will be booking again in one of their other areas on our next visit.

Great Food and Walking Tour of Saint Germain

What a wonderful food tour! Our guide was Leo and he was entertaining and informative. He told great stories and provided a bit of architectural history as well. The tour was at a leisurely pace and the shops we visited were picture perfect and all the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this tour and look forward to doing other Secret Food tours in Paris. We had a great time in the beautiful Saint Germain neighborhood and if you can request Leo, do so. He'll make your tour memorable.

A great food tour in Paris!

Our family did the Saint Germain secret food tour with Stephane. As there was only one other couple with us, it was a lovely and laid back day. Stephane took us around many of the shops and got us to taste a few of the ingredients, the macrons were to die for! We then ended up at a restaurant for a late lunch where we learnt more about the French culture and world view, it was very interesting. Stephane, with pre-arrangement , also managed to cater for our coeliac daughter with some gluten free options and doubles of somethings where she could not be catered for. One of our favourite days of our holidays so far, thanks Stephane!
