A meaningful, time efficient Musee d'Orsay visit

(This review is regarding a With Local tour within the Musee de'Orsay, only. ) If it's your first visit and you don't have all day, a guide is the way to go! Super friendly and knowledgeable, Hugo guided us expertly into and through the Musee de'Orsay. There are a lot of people and a lot of art to view, so having a guide took the guesswork out of figuring out what pieces to see and navigating to them. We thoroughly enjoyed the meaningful discussions about the pieces, the artists, and what influenced them.

Wonderful tour of the D'Orsay

Fernanda took us on a fantastic and very memorable trip around the Musee D'Orsay. The tour was tremendously well organised and was both very informative and accessible. Fernanda has amazing knowledge and was very good at communicating that to us. My teenage children (not the easiest audience in the world) were really enthralled and both very much enjoyed the tour. It was genuinely fascinating. Fernanda herself is a very charming and kind person who really couldn't do enough to accomodate us. I always find these tours are made not only by what the guide knows but how good a company they are generally as you walk around, and we all really enjoyed Fernanda's company.

Fabulous Fernanda

I have had the privilege of visiting many art museums with group and private tours. Fernanda blew them all away! She is knowledgeable, passionate, and so effusive. Her excitement about the art and history was infectious and we could have easily stayed for 4 or 6 hours with her rather than our prescribed 2! She was so generous with her time, staying a little extra to make sure we tied everything together and got the full picture. I cannot recommend this brilliant woman enough and cannot wait for my next trip to Paris to learn from her again!

Wonderful tour of D’Orsay!

Chrystelle gave myself and my two daughters (ages 21 and 18) a wonderful guided tours of D’Orsay. Informative, friendly, and knowledgeable - she took us through the museum explaining its history, how the art had been carefully arranged to tell the story of Impressionism as a reaction to the Academy. She also focused on key pieces of art and artists, explaining their importance and the story behind the artists. Would highly recommend!

This tour was great! We had Julien as a guide. He took us to the highlights of the museum and gave us a really interesting tour about the history of impressionist art. I highly recommend this tour!

A Wonderful Private Tour Of The D'Orsay With An Extraordinary Guide, Highly Recommended.

Our guide Julien met us in the front of the museum and spent about 3 hours teaching us about the history of the D'Orsay and the art exhibited there. Julien was amazing, he was so kind, knowledgeable, and patient with us. We had been to the museum many times, but this was the BEST experience ever. It was well worth the price to have such an esteemed knowledgeable person like Julien to bring the wonderful museum to life. I highly recommend this private tour.

Julien was a stellar tour guide. He arrived on time to our designated meeting point outside the Musee d'Orsay. We learned SO much from him during our time together. We will never look at art the same way again! His tour was well organized and he took into account the things I shared that were most important to us. Art with an art historian

Fernanda was the perfect guide for our tour of the D’Orsay art museum. Fernanda’s command of art history as well English made the tour particularly delightful and educational. Fernanda used a blend of personal stories interwoven with tales of each of the painters whose work we admired. She made art real for us. We can’t think of a better way to tour a Parisian art museum. We highly and wholeheartedly recommend Fernanda you are sure to thoroughly enjoy the tour and emerge with a wealth of knowledge about art, in general, and painting in particular, that you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Storytelling ties it all together

We had a wonderful time at the museum. The family was a bit tired after a long trek in the morning up the Eiffel Tower. Fortunately, our guide Julien was up to the task! Julien's warm personality and great storytelling kept everyone captivated. It helps that we all really enjoy impressionist paintings, but what made it memorable was Julien's ability to weave a story about the history of art in France at that turn of the century. The building itself is a work of art. Our guide Julien was very knowledgeable & intersting. We liked the works he chose to show us, especially the sculptures by Rodin, Monet & Renoir paintings.

We loved our Musee d'Orsay tour! Fernanda's insights and narrative made it such a rich experience. We learned so much more than we ever would have on our own. Skip the lines and enjoy the best Guide!

The tour allowed us to skip the lines and secure tickets even when the museum said tickets were sold out. Our guide Fernanda was perfect! She had the art historian knowledge, the most charming personality, and perfect English so she could explain things clearly. She was smart, personable, helpful, and her passion for art made it so much more fascinating and enjoyable. She communicated before the tour and clearly as far as connecting and meeting. Highly recommend and ask for Fernanda!

Insightful tour of Musée d'Orsay!

I had been to the museum years ago and had looked dutifully from the first gallery to the next. Hugo put a thematic emphasis on our visit, which meant skipping some galleries and paintings but then putting emphasis on others, so that a real (hi-)story emerged. It was memorable, thank you!

We had a wonderful tour with Chrystelle during our visit to Paris! She is so sweet and so knowledgeable! It was so nice to not have have to wait in the long line to enter the museum. I would highly recommend using Chrystelle if you plan on touring the Musee d’Orsay!

Great experience

My husband, toddler and I had a tour with Lucien. it was great! It was a great way to skip the line, get information about the museum itself, the work, the context of impressionism as well as information about the pieces itself and artists. this was the most economic way of having a private tour. What is better than hiring locals directly than paying a big corporation? WE enjoyed our time, appreciated Luciens willingness to wait for us well past the start time and his adaptability when our toddler stopped enjoying his time.

Wonderful Tour of the Musee d'Orsay

My husband, 15-year-old daughter and I have been to Louvre several times, and decided, on this trip to Paris, that we'd try something a bit different. None of us knew much about either Impressionism or Post-Impressionism, and so decided a tour of the Musee d'Orsay would be the best way to get the most out of the experience. And what an amazing time we had with Emmanuelle on our With Locals tour! From the very beginning, Emmanuelle was wonderful: she gave us specific instructions on where and when to meet her, she pre-bought the tickets so we didn't have to wait in line, and, most importantly, spent an incredible 2.5 hours with us in this lovely museum. She started off at the very beginning, explaining how multiple factors, including traditional approaches to art in France and the Industrial Revolution (among others) influenced the development of alternative movements and led to Impressionism and beyond. Her careful way of explaining the historical development of these artistic movements gave us such a greater understanding of the art and how and why it developed than we ever could have gotten on an audio tour or on our own. Each of us identified one or two artists that we felt connected to, and now have a much deeper understanding of this period of art. In the end, it was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon in Paris, and one that's given me a true appreciation of a school of art that I never would have expected. Thank you, Emmanuelle!! Please note: we actually took this wonderful tour in November 2019; but, as Paris begins to open, we thought it might be helpful to post this review (written in November 2019). We're looking forward to spending more time in Paris soon, and hope to take another tour with Emmanuelle!!

First ones in to Musee d'Orsay

Sophie was such a knowledgeable and courteous guide for my mom and I through the Musee d'Orsay. My mom was having a bit of trouble keeping up with all of the walking that we did throughout Paris and Sophie made sure to find her a seat wherever possible. We learned about many of the pieces as well as the museum itself and were able to apply our newfound knowledge during our further travels on our trip through France. We both enjoyed the experience of having a private tour rather than a group tour - it was much easier without headphones! We took our tour right when the museum opened and I absolutely recommend that if you are able as it gets very busy and the crowds definitely do take a little bit a away from the art itself.

I will be the first to admit that I am not an art gallery person.. so I was dragged along by my three friends but it was so worth it. I learnt a lot about the art, the history of the building and it was a fascinating tour. Julien was brilliant, he made the paintings come to life with all sorts of snippets of information about the painters and their lives. So despite myself, I had a fantastic time. Thank you Julien, we had a great time. We'll see you when we decide to tour the Louvre!

Don't visit the Musee D'Orsay without Sophie!

My husband and I have never been big "museum people." But now we realize it's just because we've never been to a museum with a professional before! Sophie is a gem. She is a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed every single minute of our tour. Not only did she give us context for the paintings, but also context for the history and politics of the period as well, weaving a brilliant tapestry of art, history, and storytelling. This was our first ever WithLocals tour and we couldn't have asked for a better first experience. Don't miss a chance to choose Sophie as your guide to Paris!

Delightful & Extremely Educational

Emanuelle was a delightful, knowledgeable guide through this incredible museum. The value of touring the museum with an expert on art of the period was significant. We learned about the building, the politics, the culture and the fantastic collection of art. She also did an excellent job communicating with us a couple days ahead so we knew her name and phone number.

AWESOME Tour

Julien is AWESOME. Firstly I was impressed by his prompt and careful organization. Nothing was left to the last minute. Julien took me through the fascinating history of the Impressionists and the unbelievable musée they are housed in. His knowledge of the history is clearly based on a passion for art, and story-telling, and he and I had a wonderful dialogue as well. Julien showed me some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! I fully recommend Julien for any tour he offers, as he is an enthusiastic, knowledgable and really positive guy. Thanks Julien!

à faire mais avec une guide à l'heure !

les + : visiter en privé un musée : "un must indispensable" la guide explique la chronologie, ouvre les yeux sur les symboliques , situe l'oeuvre dans l'histoire et introduit tout logiquement à l'impressionnisme , et à tous les mouvements de peinture en découlant le GROS - : il est bien précisé à la réservation que vous devez arriver à 9H45 pour débuter la visite à 10 H tapante ! la guide était en retard d'environ 20 minutes sans excuses , la visite ne commences qu'à 10 H 30 ..... mais par contre, l'heure de fin, elle , a été parfaitement respectée :12 H 30 tapante , la guide nous salue ! ce manque de ponctualité nous a privé d'environ 30 MN d'explication dans le musée engendrant un sentiment de frustration, car les explications données étaient parfaites
