Kuranda Scenic Railway Day Trip from Palm Cove

Tour company very disappointing

The experience of the scenic railway and cable car was very good, thoroughly enjoyable and beautiful scenery. What we didn’t appreciate looking more into this day trip booking was our ‘tour guide’ turned up 25 minutes late to pick us up so we only just made the train (we pulled up to the station as the train did) so we had no time at Freshwater station to have a look and relax before getting on the train. The pick up on the way home was on time. Upon looking into this tour the cost of it is excessive for what is included. You can book yourselves the train and Skyrail at a cost of $125 each. This tour was $215 each, the only other thing that was included were the transfers - $90 each to be picked up late and then dropped off after is ridiculous. The cost of booking a day trip came with no added benefit for us to justify the cost. Much better to book this yourselves and book a taxi each way from Palm Cove - you’ll save yourselves money and have a better experience

Great day

Picked this tour as wanted to rail up to Kuranda and sky rail down and have time at Kuranda. The train trip was great, stopped a couple of times on the way up for photos, plenty to see in Kuranda, trip included the Rainforest park with lunch which was lovely and plentiful. After feeding the kangaroos and seeing other animals, it was off on the ‘duck’ for an adventure, staff very friendly and knowledgeable, didn’t do all parts of the tour as wanted to go to butterfly sanctuary which was lovely. Sky rail trip was amazing , stopped off a couple of times to walk around the areas. Really recommend this day, picked up from northern beaches.

Awesome Day

Fantastic day. Collected from Palm Cove and taken to railway. Train to Kuranda, walk around then skyrail back. Then dropped back to our resort. All like clockwork and a fantastic day.

Great day out

Our resort in Palm Cove booked us on a Down Under Tour. Everything ran perfectly, it was all explained clearly which is often not the case when there’s numerous changeovers in transport. We had bus transfers to and from hotel, the train up and then the Skyrail back down. The train was fantastic, so beautiful. And I fell in love with the town of Kuranda. I would incorporate an overnight stay up there next time I holiday. Skyrail was also good, although the weather had turned pretty cloudy and wet by then, which hindered the view a little bit. I would highly recommend doing this tour, it’s probably the highlight of my holiday. A great day out.

Down Under Tours: Kuranda rail trip, Kuranda village, return by Skyrail, transfers to and from Palm Cove

Fabulous whole day out. Excellent transfers, superb train journey with tremendous views, great history, interesting village Kuranda, a bit touristy but what do you expect? Spectacular return via the Skyrail which also allowed stops in parts of the rain forest and spectacular views of the Barron river and falls. Couldn't fault this trip. Thoroughly recommended!

Stand out service

My wife made a booking for us and our 4yr old daughter to go on the Scenic Railway trip and Skyrail return with pick up. This was from our pick up at Cnr of Moore /Trinity St. We were really impressed with the kind and friendly approach of Neil, the driver. He was methodical and clear and very helpful. His service, which we found to be followed up by the representatives of Down Under Tours was an absolute pleasure and bonus. We had no real idea who was picking us up but it was great value for money. Finally to top it off the coach was on top and very high spec/modern/comfortable. We didn't use Down Under Tours for our principal activities today (20/11/18) but even so I felt compelled to highlight a positive experience. We will certainly recommend you to others without any hesitation.

Kuranda Scenic Railway

My experience on the Kuranda Scenic Railway is sort of "mixed". The station is lovely and has heaps of character. We were crammed into a carriage with lots of people, it was really hot and uncomfortable. A little way into the journey a staff member came and offered a couple of us to move to other carriages that were not as full, which was greatly appreciated. The journey was pleasant enough and got to see some lovely scenery and hear the history of the railway which was amazing . Overall I rated the entire experience as average.

Great day out

Had a fun day out really enjoyed our train trip beautiful coach’s . We had a upgrade & a glass or two of wine plus a platter of cheeses & biscuits. Good views plus a few stops to get off the train and enjoy them

Not worth the cost

It's a nice ride up but if you are riding the skyway you will have better views. You can take the us to Kuranda for around $6. The cars are not air conditioned so if you go in the afternoon it will be quite warm.

We were collected on time and transported comfortably to the historic railway station that would transport us along the Kuranda Rail journey. The journey itself was fantastic and the stories that accompanied us on our way through the beautiful scenery was excellent. The skyrail journey on the way back was equally exciting and enjoyable providing us with a different but magnificent view of the rainforest. We would recommend this journey to anyone</p>

Beautiful train ride

The train ride goes past beautiful views of waterfalls and bushland. The train itself doesn't have aircon so it can get a little hot! Bring a fan! Lovely trip for the family, definitely recommend

Our trip included the Tjapukai...

<p>Our trip included the Tjapukai Aborigini Village. A must to do. Spent around 2 hours doing so many different things including spear and boomarang throwing, joining in the dancing and singing and learning many interesting facts and stories.Brilliant place.The 40minute Skyrail had some amazing views as it glided over the rain forest with stops on the way to the Kuranda village which was a pleasant surprise. Lots of little shops and a market selling souveneirs to suit everyones tastes and lots of places to get refreshments. The highlight for me was a visit to the Koala Sanctuary where you can cuddle a koala and take photos as well as being given a large photo. Also the opportunity to hand feed the wallabys and kangaroos.Everyone very friendly and helpful. A great day and worth every penny.</p>

<p>Nice and interesting...the train was nothing special, the town was a little more commercial than I expected, but still fun, and a lot to see. Make sure to take a photo with the Koala at the Koala park. Not many good lunch options...</p>

<p>Was very disappointed. Down under tours lied about this. They say the tour is 10 hours but it was more like 5. We were scheduled for our sky rail at 9:45am which took us to Kuranda. Then had to be on the train to leave at 2pm. Because it was half the time they said we missed an excursion and lost $94</p>

<p>Starts with an hotel pickup straight to the train station. A great train journey up the mountains with a good live commentary and opportunities for some good photo opportunities. The old fashioned train, coaches and stations really added to the atmosphere.<br/> The cableway return journey was also very good, with a couple of stopping points where you can get off to explore and take more photos.<br/> The only downside is the village of Kuranda which was a bit touristy for our liking but might well suit others more.<br/> Worth checking with your tour on return times - we were told one time - came down a bit early and found we had just missed an earlier bus that we did not know about.</p>

Coach has been arranged and stand by at the pick-up beforehand, so customers don't have to wait long. A itinerary together with the tickets of the train and cable car is provided, customers could manage their trip without a problem. Really appreciated the attentive arrangement, will definitely join the local tour operator in the future!</p>

Great train trip, good information...

<p>Great train trip, good information and loved that the train stopped for photos at Barron falls. Loved the town at Kurranda. The Butterfly House and the Bird House were good to visit. Enjoyed wandering through the old market area. I wasn't keen about travelling back on Skyrail, as I don't like heights, but the view from up there is amazing. The staff were great. Would have preferred an option of travelling back by train or bus.</p>

<p>The train and skyrail were wonderful, surprised pleasantly by the 'travelogue' supplied by Queensland rail, and the attentiveness of the the staff on the train. A little disappointed in the village of Kuranda itself - the famous handmade markets now seem to be occupied by some aging hippies, selling imported goods. The Honey shop was good, and the shops selling Aboriginal art were also good.</p>

If anything the bus pickup at the end of the day could have been much earlier as we did not feel we needed as much time as allowed for in Kuranda or coming back down on the sky rail. We took the railway up, and we returned by the sky tram. Kuranda has many tourist shops. The wildlife/cultural park offered by the Viator package is well worth the money.

This is a nice operation all around...

This is a nice operation all around, but the schedule is rushed, as there is a lot to see and do. We asked to extend our train return, as more time is needed on this trip, and were accommodated. We had to wait to start due to crowds, and were not able to leave until ten in the morning, so time was lost. It would be worth staying over in Kuranda longer or even overnight.

My husband and I found the tour a great pleasure to go on and we have recommended it to all our friends and family. We have the greatest respect for the drivers and we could not fault them at all. I will say it again it was the best time we ever had and we will be doing it again when we go back up there.

Very nice to get picked up and delivered to our hotel by nice people. We did not have enough time in Kuranda to see and shop before having to return. We had no idea there would be such wonderful shopping. We would suggest making a later time available for return and clarifying the type and amount of shopping available.

An experience and a half. The Sky Rail was very good. If you're in Kuranda, don't miss this. The Butterfly Museum we visited for very little cost was fantastic. The guide who conducted the tour was the most knowledgeable we had met, and was very passionate about the butterflies. The people of Kuranda were very friendly and warm.

What an excellent trip! We were picked up on time from hotel. We were fortunate enough to have a courteous and efficient driver for transfer to Freshwater station, which was a beautiful site. The Skyrail was an unforgettable experience. Kuranda station and the surrounding town were beautiful, with excellent tourist facilities. The trip back by vintage train was memorable, with extensive views of mountain and gorge. Pickup at Freshwater and return to my hotel were both done expeditiously, and as usual from the tour group - on time and courteously.

In spite of the crowds, the wait, and...

In spite of the crowds, the wait, and the electrical problems on the train, this was a very memorable part of our Queensland trip! Our guide was great. He had a wealth of knowledge and an easygoing nature, and he took time to explain things to us and to talk about different facets of the rain forest. He was a credit to the Kurunda tour. He made our day!

Skyride was great as we skimmed the tops of the trees. Kuranda was lovely and perfect for shopping and having a nice lunch. Having a picture holding a koala was priceless and the Butterfly Museum was also very interesting. Only downside was train tracks were wiped out in mudslide so it was only a quick back and forth.

Due to a landslide, the train was not available for all the trip and there was a lot of confusion as to what was happening. Although nice to see Kuranda itself is far too small to spend 4 hours in and so this meant people wanted to leave on buses earlier than planned which just caused more problems.

Eine Zugfahrt in die Vergangenheit

Es ist etwas ganz besonderes in diesem alten Zug zu sitzen und über diese einmalige Strecke zu fahren. Die Aussicht könnte besser sein, es ist als würde alles langssam zuwachsen. Trotzdem, diese riesige Anzahl an Tunneln und Brücken auf diesen 37 Kilometern die unter riesigen Strapatzen erschaffen wurden machen einen staunend und dankbar. Es ist ein Gesamterlebnis das man nicht vermissen sollte.
