City Sightseeing Oxford Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

An unexpectedly remarkable walking tour.

It would have been so easy to miss the included walking tour. There were frequent showers but we decided to give it a go. We were lucky with the weather but the walk would have been superb even in torrential rain. Our guide, Chris, was outstanding. Obviously no script, he was knowledgeable and fascinating, divulging a huge amount of information in an entertaining way meant that there was no surreptitious looking at watches. It was over too soon. I was reminded of lectures at university which no-one would miss. We would have all the information we needed and more. Plus there was food for thought so comments made would be discussed after the lecture. Unbelievable value for money. Not to be missed.

Awesome tour Oxford

So good and kind bus live tour guide Gregg. Very helpful and funny information was given. Definitely recommend it to know about history and most attractive events and places. Also the walking tour was very useful, Chris shared so much of his experience about interesting places.

Great live bus guide

I really liked the live bus guide. He told us so many stories about the famous people who went to the colleges and about the reputations of the different colleges, and even recited poetry. It made me want to back and relearn English literature and the stories I had read as a child. Thanks for such an informative and entertaining journey!

Well worth a visit.

We wanted to see the sights of Oxford and get some ideas for places to go and visit. We did a couple of laps during the day and were kept entertained by a very knowledgeable guide (Greg) for one lap. The second trip we had the prerecorded commentary but it is still well worth listening to. In with the price is also a walking tour of sights that cannot be accessed by bus. A great way to see all that Oxford has to offer.

A great way to get your bearings....

We always find the hop on / hop off bus is the best way for us to get our bearings in a new city, then return to the relevant points of interest after completing the full route & this one didn't disappoint. Our guide on the bus for the first full hour tour was Greg who was extremely knowledgeable, showering us with plenty of historical facts. An activity we would highly recommend.

Best way to know a city

Best way to travel… Take a view and mental map of what you want to cover and then just sail thru whatever you want to see… we enjoyed the whole day and loved the fact that we ran out of time

Excellent tour guide

Excellent way of seeing Oxford-centre and the historical colleges. If you are lucky you get GREG doing the commentary and his knowledge knew no bounds! What a memory! Thank you Greg for an enjoyable open bus top tour.

Get to know the city

The bus tour was an excellent way to see all of the major sites in Oxford and to select some for a better look.An unexpected bonus was the walking tour guided by Chris Cochran. He kept us spellbound, his extensive knowledge and dry wit were perfect and he brought Oxford alive for us.

Don’t hesitate to book!

Although the bus tour was excellent we all thoroughly enjoyed the free walking tour afterwards by Chris Cochran. He was friendly, informative and a font of knowledge. We saw so much more and learned a huge amount about the local history. Our friends who are German were also impressed!

Tour guide poet Andrew

Really informative tour with great commentary by poet Andrew. We stayed on for the whole circuit and then got off a Stop 8 which is Christ Church, this proved very central for the high Street and the river.

Well worth using for a day trip in Oxford.

The buses run every 15 minutes so it is easy to catch buses if you have hopped off. The tour gives lots of information as it proceeds round the city. The walking tour guide, price included, was well worth joining. We were a very small group and it was the last tour of the day so we were able to be taken to extra little viewing areas as there were no time constraints on the guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with.

Great way to see Oxford

A great way to see Oxford traveling on the open top bus, the commentary on the headphones provided was very informative and intersting. You can get off at any stop to explore that area, then just get back on again to the next one,or you can go all the way around without getting off.

Great way to do a day trip from London

We visited Oxford for the day after a train ride from London. Great way to see the sites and very convenient to hop on from the Oxford train station, see the city and have lunch, then hop on to get back to the train station to get back to London Paddington station

Amazing city to visit

Amazing city to visit with the help of Jack, Jason, May and Pete. The team at Oxford were so informative and helpful with directions. The bus your covered so much. We would totally recommend this to anyone visiting Oxford.

Highly recommend to appreciate the architecture of Oxford

The perfect way to see the city of Oxford and to take in the architecture. The soundtrack was very informative and interesting. Oxford is a stunning place with so many wonderful buildings. It was a little cold on the day we visited but it was worth the chill to sit upstairs. All the drivers were very friendly and polite. A big shout out to Linda who was really funny and made our day!

Policeman Pete our guide

Policeman Pete, our tour guide, gave us a wonderful commentary on Easter Sunday, during our first ever trip to Oxford. The children were excited and found Pete fun and engaging. We were given booklets and an Easter egg hunt pack. Lovely humour and style, advice about where we could eat, interesting places for us to see-we all had a great time! Thanks again Pete!

Live guided bus tour

We did the hop on hop off bus tour as a way of getting around the city on my girlfriend’s birthday. We had Greg doing a live commentary. He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We learned a lot and were delighted we were lucky enough to get on a bus with the live guide.

Great overview of Oxford

Day trip to Oxford

Great Tour thanks very much, very engaging, interesting and informative, much appreciated! We used the bus tour as soon as we arrived in Oxford, having never been before, and did the whole tour in one ride to get our bearings before hopping off at the cathedral and starting from there, and on again later. There’s no option to select January 2022 when our company attended the bus tour . Gregg was absolutely fantastic. He did a great job at keeping us entertained while the driver was driving. Thank you Gregg. This year we didn’t have Gregg or someone guiding us as the bus was driving and this made a big difference

Helpful, knowledgeable guides

First, I forgot our bus drivers name, but he was super cool! I had to drop off to find my car and pay more for more time. I told the bus driver what I was doing and we agreed to meet in two stops. I raced to the car, paid the additional fee for parking, then raced to the next stop. When I got there our driver was patiently waiting with a smile on his face. Second - Do the walking tour too! Graham was a very knowledgeable and amiable guide. He shared some great tidbits and packed so much in-depth history into 45 minutes. We covered a lot of ground! He also gave us some good advice about things to try when we left the tour to explore on our own.

2 Day pass to Oxford

Great way to see Oxford. The bus went everywhere and we never had to wait long . Drivers were helpful and friendly especially Linda who seemed to know exactly when to arrive! Took the included walk through the old part of the city with Jeremy which was really good.

Amazing bus trip in Oxford

It was my first open top bus tour and we had a wonderful time. We travelled with our elderly parents and Linda was a wonderful and friendly driver, she made it a very memorable experience, I would highly recommend the hop on and hop off bus for all visitors to Oxford.

This Hop-on Hop-off bus was a great way to get an initial orientation & to hear some historical facts about Oxford.

We’ve used these bus tours often as they are a really good way to orientate when going to a new place. Decided to do the 48-hour option because it only cost a little more than 24 hours, and also meant because we didn’t start it until early afternoon, we were able to use it in the morning of the third day. We stayed on the bus for the first circuit for this reason and before choosing where to get off, i.e. the Pitt Rivers Museum, as it was the furthest walk away from where we were staying. Although the guides were generally audio, on our final journey we had a brilliant young guide who’d studied history, so he was incredibly knowledgeable about Oxford generally. Wished I could have heard him for longer (and got his name for next time!) We did the option which included the ‘Step into Oxford’ and the ‘Town and Gown’ tours which also included a trip up to the top of Carfax Tower and a brilliant view. The guides for both were very knowledgeable and able to provide lots of interesting historical facts. The guide for ‘Step in the into Oxford’ (Graham) gave lots of varied information, and although we enjoyed the ‘Town and Gown’ tour the following day, there was repetition of many facts we’d heard already on the previous tour. I thought it would focus more on the early history between the townspeople and the students in the 13th and 14th centuries. However, although the location of the Swindlestock Tavern and the riots were referred to, not many details or of other incidents that occurred were given. The guide however, was helpful in advising us which of the colleges were open to look around, mentioning both the free ones and the price of some of the others, which we noted, and looked around All Souls the following day. From what I understand it’s not always open so that was really useful information.

Good value your, interesting & informative.

The tour was extremely interesting. Greg, the guide was informative & interesting. I would definitely recommend anyone to take one of these tours. He suggested extra sights that the tour did not include.

Excellent introduction to Oxford

We've been to Oxford a few times but this is the first time we've used the hop on hop off tour bus. We saw places we didn't know existed as well as a good view of the many colleges and other places of interest. It was also accompanied by a comprehensive commentary. Our bus driver was lovely Linda who was very helpful. My only negative was trying to purchase the tickets prior to getting on the bus - which proved difficult. It is so much easier just to buy it from the driver.

Bravo for Policeman Pete

We were lucky to have a great guide - Policeman Pete. He was very knowledgable and entertaining. We really enjoyed every minute. I was with my 10 year old niece and she thought Pete was great. We left the bus when he left and continued with the walking tour with Graham. I was also very, very good. The whole experience was personal . We didn’t feel we were part of the mass tourism.

On the buses

After arriving at Oxford railway station stop.The driver Linda was very friendly and helped us set up speaker for commentary provided by Mike.His information was very interesting and his added humour made it even better.I would recommend this as a good way to get around Oxford at a very reasonable price.Bus very accessible.

Rooftop Magnificence

Excellent value… about an hour for the 20 stops. I took the 48hr option and went fully round twice, the second day with a live ‘local’ guide Greg who was great 👍 Views are fabulous, but with the fine architecture of the city you could hardly go wrong!

Most cities have these. A great way to get your bearings and an idea of what you might want to get off and see. Commentary of sites and places via the supplied multilingual headphone box imparts more information than most visitors would ever know.

Walking Tour

The bus tour was good but the walking tour guide Chris lochlan was excellent. He was really knowledgeable and was even late for his Sunday dinner to show us mire things.

Bus Tour and 60 minute walking tour (Chris Cochran).

Hop-on hop-off bus tour had an excellent commentary describing notable buildings that we passed in the bus. Headphones were provided. We had a 60 minute walking tour starting at the High Street Tourist Office led by Chris Cochran. Chris has an amazing memory for the exact dates of events and people. It was interesting and educational!

Great day out in Oxford

My first visit to Oxford so I took the tour. The driver was friendly and helpful, suggesting which ticket would be best for me. My ticket included climbing the Carfax Tower and a walking tour. The headphone were easy to work and hear and the commentary gave just the right amount of information for me to take in. The tour guide was Chris. He is a walking encyclopaedia of information! We walked to places and he explained things I would not have found just by walking around by myself even with a guide book. It's well worth doing the walking tour even if you don't do the bus tour.

Bus tour and free walking tour

We took the Hop-on Hop-off bus tour around Oxford which was informative and interesting, and a good way to get a sense of the city. Also included in the bus ticket was a 45 minute free walking tour. We had Policeman Pete as our tour guide - it was a great walking tour, Pete had a wealth of information about the city and its buildings, and was welcoming and entertaining. We learnt a lot about the University and its various buildings and colleges. Highly recommended.

Great Introduction to Oxford - informative & entertaining.

The bus tour was a wonderful way to get a feel for the layout of the city of Oxford. The ability to hop on and off at different stops was very nice - bus drivers we interacted with were all very kind. Buses were clean, and the audio (we heard the recorded audio, but sometimes there are live tour guides) was very informative and interesting. After our tour we also took part in the additional free walking tour available at the top of the hour. Our guide was Leslie and she was a delight! So fun and filled with interesting information. We were so glad to have taken the time to do the walking tour - additional stories and insights were invaluable. Thank you Leslie! We explored a few places in Oxford that we wouldn't have known about had it not been for your encouragement! Taking the tour was not a part of my original plan for visiting Oxford, but I'm so glad we changed our plans and started things off with City Sightseeing Bus tours!

Fun despite the weather

Even on a wet and windy day we all enjoyed this tour. The children especially liked the kid’s commentary.
