Delhi Must-See!

This is a very eye-opening experience we highly recommend to visitors of Delhi. Sam was very informative and passionate, and had a very personal connection with the community. The tour is safe but I do recommend closed toed shoes. There are two meeting times/locations, we chose the earlier time and our tour included a subway trip to the tour location, which was also something we wanted to do in the city.

Slum India is 🤩

The MVP is the tour guide, Doli. She is a superb guide, and her storytelling skill is impressive. Touring in slum sounds difficult, but this tour will introduce you slum in a way you will change your perception.

Highly recommend this tour

Excellent tour and the profits go to an excellent cause. Tavrej is a knowledgeable and friendly guide. You will see commercial areas where fabric is processed and clothing is made, residential areas, and the school that is run from the profits made by Reality Tours. No photos are allowed so the tour felt respectful and not intrusive to people living in the Sanjay Colony, but Reality Tours provides a link to photos you can download.

Great eye-opening experience in Delhi

Eye-opening experience in Delhi. If you want to see a different side of the city, I highly recommend going in this tour. The slum is very safe and the guides are experienced.

Heartwarming

Amazing initiative. Love that our tour leader grew up and still lives in this community. What struck me the most was the kids…all happy and clearly much loved. We have much to learn from these people who may not have our financial wealth but have riches in terms of community and family support.

Great experience with a great guide. Money goes there where it is needed und used correctly. Furthermore there are some things really surprising: school, business, medical coverage - really good to see.

Breathtaking

The real Delhi

Authentic tour through the real Delhi, which left a lasting impression. Our guide was great. He showed us various aspects of life in the slums: schools, sanitary facilities, work, healthcare. Really great!

Fascinating, informative and seems empathetic

Fascinating and not extractive. Our tour was led by someone who had lived in the community for some years, and for that reason perhaps it didn't feel too awkward being a tourist imposing into this fascinating but poor world. It seems strange that the term slum is still used, where its become very un-pc in most places, but maybe honest. The organisation that organises the tour seems to be doing good work within the community, and their claim to highlight the positives of life here, alongside its challenges seemed reasonable, though what do I know.

Did the morning tour and despite me getting wrong location our guide found us , our guide was local and knowledgeable with great English , she knows the colonie as it’s her home , the tour was eye opening but in a positive way , would recommend 😊

Just a normal day in a slum 👀

I remember telling my family I want to take a slum tour in Delhi and the scared look on their faces. This tour is something you have to see if you want to understand how Delhi can expand in the rate it does. My tour guide Ajay comes from this colony so I had the best experience one can have. All my questions were answered. People living in Sanjay colony are doing the best they can to keep their slum safe. They are working and trying to give their children a better fututre. You will see their daily life, work and children having fun with maybe a little money but a big sense of community. I hope the NGO can help more children to reach their dreams :)

Experience not to be missed!

I am extremely happy with the Dolly (my guide), the topics, the different explanations and the experience by itself. I can 100% recommend this tour as it will allow you to know the other side of India. The one that keeps remind you that small actions in your daily life can impact thousand of people. I really hope this comment will allow to bring more and more customers to Reality Tours & Travel. I even book two more tours with them as my experience was outstanding. btw. No pictures are allowed because of privacy of people. Just go and see it yourself.

Welcoming and Friendly

If your thinking should you or shouldn’t you do the tours of the slums just do it !!! This part of our trip was the most welcoming and friendly people in India!! With the kids buy crisps and sweets from the stalls inside the slums and hand them out the response is humbling and will put a huge smile on yours and their face !! They also love to talk to you in English The tour guide T was excellent friendly and doesn’t take it too seriously which lets you relax

Great way to learn more

It was very interesting tour. We met our guide at the CP and took metro to Sanjay colony. Our guide was very polite, friendly and informative. The tour was well planned and allowed to see bit of daily life in the colony.

Unforgettable experience

For me and my friend, the Sanjay Colony Tour was an unforgettable experience and the opportunity to see a different side of Delhi which we dind't expect to have access to. Our guide, Dolly, was a very nice and well prepared young lady from Sanjay, and gave us a lot of info about life in the colony and and answered patiently all our questions about it. would definitely recommend and as a way to discover without prejudice and in an ethical manner, life in this kind of settlement and have the concrete opportunity to help.

A great experience

I had a wonderful experience going on this tour I loved seeing the people, the community, and the environment. It's hard to explain how comfortable i felt and how informative this was. From learning about sanitation, work performed, Healthcare and education. There's a lot more going on that meets the eye. I had two guides with me, covey(?) And wejay. They answered all my questions and explained everything clearly. And helped me get an uber back to my hotel. I really enjoyed this experience.

Great tour with company that gives back to community, but not for photographers

Very insightful tour from a pleasant and well-prepared guide. The company organising the tours gives 80% of profits back to the community by organising almost-free courses to educate the children of the community in English and digital skills. The only downside is the fact that you cannot take photographs: while we 100% get that it’s for privacy reasons, they should still try to organise with local people “safe places” for photographers, as this would attract more people and raise more awareness in tourists.

Spectacular insight into Delhi slums living

Naresh was the perfect guide, having grown up and lived in Sanjay Colony. We had a great day, even visited the local school, said hello to his Mum and family on the way past, and learnt a completely different insight into the Delhi slums that you would expect as a Westerner. The people work together to better each other, respect each other and function as a clean and safe community. Highly recommended. Thank you. 😊

An important experience

This is a must do when visiting New Dehli. It felt very safe and you learn a lot about the hard life of the proud people in Sanjay Colony. Our guide Cavita was very kind and made this a memorable experience.

Slum tour

We had already done another tour with this company, and we were really satisfied, reason why we decided to do the Slum Tour with them. They were always very attentive and accommodated the time of the tour to our needs. They also picked us up in the city and drove with us with the metro until the stop closest to the colony. The explanations we were given were really interesting and gave us a clear idea of how the life for the people in the colony is. At the end, we were brought to the school where the kids from the colony receive english and computer classes with the money that is being raised from Reality Tours. Overall, it was a very enriching experienced and it is really good to know that the gainings from the tours are being invested in improving the lifes of the children and teens of the colony.

This is a MUST, I felt 100% safe.

This is a MUST, mainly because it will correct all the misconceptions we have. I am absolutely sure it is safer to walk in these slums, than in neighboorhoods in Chicago. It is also a Reality Check, so we can see WHERE and WHO makes so many of the goods we consume. We walked in many narrow alleys, saw how they have clinics, shops, homes, recycling centers, public bathrooms, etc in the slums. Poeple are hard workers, trying to make a days living, We felt SAFE at all times, especially because our guides are FROM are slum. I am not posting pictures, as pictures are not allowed.

Tour gives an extra angle of Delhi, but at the expense of 2 more hrs of travelling and limited phototaking opportunities

Don't expect it is a tour for photo-taking (It is only allowed before you enter the slum or in the NGO's premises). So if you are targeting for photos, then this tour is not for you. It is good to know more about the people, how the society works by witnessing it first hand apart from going to all the touristy places. The main downside of the trip is the slum is quite far away from the main tourist attractions in Delhi; so you probably need to travel 2 hours extra altogether to accommodate this tour in your trip.

Very insightful tour of Sanjay Colony Slum

This was a fantastic tour to see everyday life in one of Delhi's slums. It was great to help in changing perceptions of slum areas and of the people who live there, and to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for life in this area. Sam our guide was fantastic; he was really friendly and happy to answer our questions. It was also interesting hearing about the work the tour company does to support the local community via their education program.

Fantastic tour of a different side of Delhi than one might normally see.

This tour was really good, My guide was professional, prompt, and took great care to explain everything before we headed out for the tour. We saw parts of Delhi that we probably wouldn't have otherwise, and reality tours and travel are doing some great work with the children in the area. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting.

walk in an underserved area of Delhi

While one hesitates to visit a slum, as being voyeuristic, this walk provides realistic insights into a very difficult work and life situation. Good to be guided and get explanations. Proceeds go to an NGO that provides extracurricular classes to neighbourhood children.

This tour was as expected, visiting local's in their environment. I felt save all time. Very interesting tour for a reasonable price that goes to the colony’s children.

Great tour

Really interesting and unique tour where you are able to meet the residents and get to know life in the colony. Unfortunately some things were closed on the day I was there but Stanley, our tour guide, was an excellent host. He provided lots of information and has perfect English.

Highly recommended

Fantastic tour. Never for one moment did we feel like we were intruding in their lives. The people living there were not affected by our presence and seemed happy to see us. The guide was knowledgeable and very considerate to the people there. He explained that a large percentage of the profits go back to the community in the form of education for the children within the slum community. It’s an eye opener for sure but in a positive way. Highly recommended.

This tour was well led and gave a good insight into life in the colony. I particularly enjoyed seeing the school funded by the tour operator and the work it does to help the local children.

Eye-opening experience in Delhi

I did the Slum Tour with guide Sam in a small group. It is an eye-opening experience to the the Sanjay Colony by your own. Sam explained everything very very well and could anwer all the questions the group had. I definitely recommend to do this tour when visiting Delhi!

Super-interesting to see another side to Delhi

Vijay showed us around Sanjay Colony and the neighbourhood. As someone that grew up and still lived there, it was super-interesting to hear how Vijay and the residents live their daily lives. We then had lunch at Vijay’s house and met his beautiful family. The food was delicious and it was a great experience for us and our kids.

This tour will give you a lot of understanding of Delhi slums and how the garment industry works. Glad I didn’t miss this.

Extremely valuable and a great guided intro to real India

Brilliant and very informative tour. Really broke down western preconceived ideas of what a 'slum' is and really was just allowed us to curiously explore differnt ways of living. Really appreciated this open minded tour and found it to be extremely valuable. Will be using this company again in the future for sure.

Must do when in India

This is one of my best experiences in India. Vijay was a wonderful guide. It was really inspiring seeing what a difference an NGO like Reality Gives can make in a community like this. Everything was very respectfully presented. Can’t recommend enough.

Recommended to anyone who visits Delhi!

We did the Slumtour in the early morning and it was a very interesting experience. We learned a lot and now see the Sanjay Colony and slums in general in a different light. Our guide was amazing, giving us the right amount of information and always being open for any questions. Another thing I want to add is that we accidentally paid double. After we said our goodbyes and headed back to where we slept, our guide called us, let us know and brought us the extra money back. I think this shows how serious Reality Tours takes transparency and fairness. Thank you very much for the astounding insight into Indian slum culture and history, we would recommend this tour to anybody visiting Delhi.
