I've lived in Mumbai for decades but never explored the Muslim Quarter's food scene, even though I had a list of places to try. Planning felt overwhelming, so I kept putting it off. That changed when I saw a WhatsApp post about a Food Tour by Khaki Tours during Ramadan. I didn't think twice; I booked it right away. The tour was amazing! We visited 9-10 food spots in the bustling Bhendi Bazaar, surrounded by hundreds of people enjoying their meals. Some highlights were the delicious Nalli Nihari at Surti Handi, the creamy ice cream at Taj House, and the flavorful Chicken Roll at Fakhri Sweets. A big shoutout to Samruddhi from Khakti Tours for organizing such a fantastic evening. Her connections with the restaurant owners and deep area knowledge shone through.

Who should NOT go on this tour: - thepla carrying tourists - vegans - armchair foodies who fear crowds Like millions of Mumbaikars, I had heard of the food outlets that spring up during Ramzan in Bhendi Bazaar. And like millions of said Mumbaikars I would have had no idea where to start, what to eat, what not to eat, and what really was 'safe'. Enter Khaki Tours and their passionate guides (apparently most do it for the love of the job). Our group of 7 had an intrepid vegetarian (the rotis, naans, parathas were out of this world so there was that), and the rest were chicken-etarians. Who were game for other game on this day out. Two hours in the late evening curated walk of 1.5 kms weaving in and out of bikes, handcarts, even wildly honking cars and a sea of human beings. Khaki Tours introduced us to the heritage and history of the Bohri Mohalla and to the food outlets that have by now served zillions of meals over the decades. Pulao and kababs and nalli-nihari and mohabbat ka sherbet (known by some other name) and sweets and ice cream. Delish, delightful, and each roadside sitting place felt quite serendipitous. Two days later, i can safely say this was an awesomely safe experience (no side effects whatsoever). Do it at least once in your lifetime I say, you Indians. Ye bucket list wala trip toh banta hai! (Would recommend this tour only to the most adventurous of international visitors)

Lovely Food Walk Experience

Enjoyed the food walk in Bohri Mohallah so much. It was great to try different delicacies which I hadn’t eaten or heard of before while getting to know a little about the heritage of the place. Ram was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed the food tour of Bohri Mohalla with Khakhi Tours. Indranil was a fantastic guide, we discovered lots of delicious eats and learnt a lot about the heritage and history of the area.

Not getting over the food anytime soon!

I went on this tour with Swati last month and man, it was amazing! The food was wonderfully great... I am not gonna get over it anytime soon! We had no space left at the end of the night. It was very well organised, super informative, and a lot of fun. Swati is a great host and knows a lot of people in the area, which goes on to say how much she knows this place and its people. It speaks volumes about her hospitality and friendliness. If you enjoy food and want it with a side of istory nd background, this tour is for you!

Ramadan Ramble

The food was amazing and the history of the place was shared in detail. The place was not that crowded and could comfortably enjoy the food.

Amalgam of culture, heritage , food and religion through unique food trail in Ramadan in Mumbai

Truly wonderful yet different food tasting expereince of Ramadan in Mumbai unlike from the ususal Mohmmadali Road food stalls. This expereince with Khaki Tour was indeed amazing to learn the culture, the history of the city of Mumbai from colonial era to why streets were named, to tasting unque tastes and flavours of food from some very quaint food stalls that sell some of best food with affordable prices. A unique expereince that every city must have, to permit citizens and tourist to experience the cultural, religious and food diversity that our cities and country boasts and celebrates so uniquely. The amalgam of cusines persian, awadhi, lucknowi and gujariti flavours in some dishes. Khaki Tour guides well informed to share the rich heritage of the city of Mumbai.

The Ramzan special food walk with Parvez Panthaky of Khaki Tours was amazing. We went as a family of three including a teenager. We sampled umpteen number of delicacies in different places including undiscovered gems and that are already old & famous. Parvez was the perfect host and not only the young one but all of us learnt a lot on this tour about culture, food and the city. It expanded our horizons.

Samrudhi led us on a delightful food trail, offering a lovely experience that encompassed not just tasty food of absolute quality and flavor but also provided insights into our rich Indian culture. Along the journey, we had the pleasure of meeting new people, while the warm hospitality of stall owners added an extra layer of warmth to the experience. It was truly an amazing culinary adventure that left us with hearts and bellies full. 🍽️👫❤️

A rare Bombay experience

Great food, well organised. Arnavaz led us through the by lanes of Mohammed Ali road for amazing treats - both sweet and savoury. Arnavaz also had some very interesting nuggets to share about the area from the 1800s to the present day make over that the area is going through. The places that we ate at had tables organised for us - so there was no standing and waiting for anything. Action packed two and a half hours. I got to see a very interesting side of Mumbai evening Ramzan life. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to experience the vibrant side of Mumbai. Carry your own water bottle - makes life a whole lot easier for this tour.

So Good We Did it Twice!

Amazing experience doing the walking tour! Infact, it was the second year in a row that me and my family did this specific tour. We learnt a lot last year about the area but I was pleasantly surprised that I learnt new things even on this tour. I cannot recommend this highly enough - even if you're just joining for the food!

Bohri Mohallah food walk for foodies

The food choices were well thought out and followed the Bohri style of savoury followed by a sweet. The food was extraordinary with the standout for me being the Salman Pulao and the Surti 12 handi. Arnavaz, our host, was superb guiding us through the streets and giving us lovely bits of information as we meandered the food streets starting with the do Tanki and ending at Taj icecream. Very well conducted and timely to the second Would certainly recommend it to everyone who appreciates a bit of history with a double dose of delectable food.

Must try for Ramzan special treats!

#RamzanRamble Completed the Ramzan Ramble tour with Parvez and Siddhant last weekend. It was a fabulous experience, with all food items just delicious! It was clear that the items were carefully curated and vetted by the Khaki Tours team. Parvez provided a wonderful insight to the local history, too. The tour does not involve too much walking, in fact I was surprised that most of the places had seating arrangements! The idea of sampling went out of the window quickly, because all the items were simply lick-smacking! As the description on the website says, this is a tour for hard-core non-vegetarians. A pure vegetarian person would not find 'anything' to eat! The level of attention to detail by Khaki Tours team is admirable - they even know where reasonably clean toilets are! There is no parking area close-by, taxi is the way to go. Parvez and Khaki Tours team, thank you very much for a memorable experience!!

Delectable walk!!

If u would like to taste the delicacies of Bohra community living in this part of Mumbai for any many years .. this is the walk for you. Our host Juzer was from the local community and his choice of food, its order of tasting .. alternating between sweet and savoury.. garnished with food history and his warm personality made the walk truly delectable. Well done and highly recommend!!

Amazing Experience

I did several tours that were all very good, but I have no hesitation in saying this was the best. The food was great. Swathi was a phenomenal host. She knows these stands and the people very well. We were visiting from the United States and had been warned about street food—with Swathi’s help that was a non-issue.

Incredible food, engaging history, fun experience

Amazed! This wasn't my first trip to the Bohri Mohalla area. I have eaten the street food many times over. Yet this trip left me with memories that's hard to top. We were a group of 7 plus the tour guide, and we were able to experience a lot more food than had we just gone individually. We learnt so much about the history of the area, what it used to be and how much of it has changed. It was truly an incredible evening. Once I will do again ... Once everything is adequately digested.

Exceptional Food, Fantastic Experience

The food walk inside Bohri locality and the experience of tasting some of the best available delicacies in the city was surreal and was equally memorable as well. The food served was lip smacking and the operator - Indranil was very friendly, updated us on the history about the community as well the city/food which made the overall experience worth every single penny. I would suggest everyone who wants to try some fantastic non-verg food and the exceptional desserts to experience this food walk at least once.

Lipsmacking Bohri Bunch at Mohalla Munch

Having done walking tours with Khaki, this was my first Food centred walking tour. The Bohri Mohalla food walking tour was hosted by the youngest Ambassador of the organization, an extremely confident young adult and an undergraduate Miss. SAMRUDDHI PETHE . As a Mumbaikar and having said that as a Foodie, I had never been to this particular area. But thanks to Khaki and an extremely wonderful and bubbly host, I discovered not only places serving lipsmacking food but also riveting stories coming from the community . The perfect walk for Mumbai foodies

Parvez Panthaky took us to all his favorite spots, which conveniently are now our favorite spots, for street food in the Muslim quarter of Mumbai. We learned the history of the city and the community, and we tried a huge variety of food — kebabs, sandwiches, khichda, pullao, sweets, sarbats — and everything was fantastic. We will do this again.

We enjoyed the Ramzan Ramble food walk with the best possible experience of Ramzan spirit with strangers that you really like to meet once again. To sum up we had the best toast of Ramzan with the best host (Parvez Panthaky) from Khaki.

Amazing food walk! Must do!!

Joined the most amazing food walk with host Omkar during the holy month of Ramzan. Although I came by myself, Omkar made the group feel like a group of friends. He was super relaxed and navigated the busy night market with ease. Every food outlet we visited was amazing. The owners and cooks greeted us with a big smile and served the most delicious food. The seekh kebab as well as chicken kasturi naan sandwich & baida roti were some of the most delicious food I’ve had in India so far. Absolute must try if you’re interested in delicious food, and exploring new neighbourhoods.

Indranil and Samrudhi who were our guides did a fantastic job of ensuring all our food desires were fulfilled. The food recomendations were spot on and among the best I have ever eaten. While I frequent this area every year, the places we were to were mostly new to me but far better then those i used to visit. Complete eye opener. Great tour ... A foodie's delight

A fun and enjoyable walking tour of Bhori Mohalla and nearby area. It's primarily a eating and tasting tour. Swati our guide was very knowledgeable. She took us through the bylanes of the area to some well known as well as hidden eateries getting us to savour the various delicacies served during Ramadan. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

Foodgasm in Mumbai

You always knew the food was going to be amazing. But what made this special was the way Swati took us on a carefully curated journey around these totally chaotic streets, told us exactly what to eat and how much (since we had to keep place in our bellies for all the goodies to come) and where. It's a true Mumbai experience, one I would encourage all Mumbaikars and visitors to this city to try. Thank you, Khaki Tours and Swati for a great evening of food and conversation.

A must do!

Had a lovely walk with our host Swati last night. Can’t believe we managed to eat at 15 places in 2.5 hours! Awesome food including some hidden gems and just the right guidance from Swati to ensure we enjoy the food at all the places. She peppered the walk with nuggets from local history giving that special Khaki touch!
