Armaan the tour guide was amazing

Armaan was amazing on this tour as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and was so helpful in showing us the delights of Mumbai’s food scene. He gave us excellent background to buildings, locations and foods. Would highly recommend asking for Armaan as he was brilliant.

Awesome - food was incredible!!!

We had the most fantastic experience with Sam as our guide and JQ as our driver. Very pleasant guys who made the experience awesome for us. Such an interesting tour where you get right into the heart of Mumbai and get to taste all the local delicacies from the streets! The food is very safe to eat so don’t be worried!! Sam is very knowledgeable about the food and the area as we travelled around. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get into the real heart of Mumbai. Let’s just hope it was an off night

Given all of the other five star reviews, we have to assume that this was just a night where everything went wrong. Our guide texted us at 5:05 when we were in place for 5 pm pick up to tell us he was running late. 45 minutes later, he arrived due to traffic, then we walked to the bus stop where we waited for another half an hour. 90 minutes and only one snack into our 4 hour trip, we finally got sick of breathing diesel fumes with no idea of when we might move and asked if we could get a taxi to the beach to get things started. To be fair, it was an extremely busy night and Mumbai traffic is insane, but no sooner had we got to the beach then our guide realised he had left his mobile phone in the taxi and took off. His girlfriend (who was apparently another guide) was left with us, but she made no effort to pick up where he had left, so we continued to stand around for another half an hour, doing nothing and waiting for him to come back. We asked his girlfriend if she could keep things moving as it was now 7.30 and we’d had only 2 dishes but she said that he had all the money. Finally, she organised the third dish, but 45 minutes into standing around doing nothing, (not helped by the fact that my husband wasn’t feeling well,) we just pulled the pin and asked to be taken home. Clearly it was a night where just nothing went right for the guide and so with this in mind, the comment that I would make is that whilst we were bored and hungry, the tour itself could be a fantastic and authentic way to experience Mumbai. Travelling by foot was a great way to get up close with real people and have the courage to try some exciting new dishes. I do have to mention that the communication was not great, we had no contact in the lead up to the event and the first time we heard from the guide was five minutes after he was supposed to be at the meeting point. There was also no discussion about food allergies or tolerances, which as another reviewer, has mentioned, I would’ve thought was an absolute mandatory when taking people on a food tour. Unfortunately, that lack of professionalism from the company was noteworthy. We took another food tour in Phuket, where we had texts from the guide and company ahead of the tour and the first question was whether we had allergies. All up, a much better experience.

We had an awesome time with Yash on our tour!! He was super friendly and was always sure we were OK. We went to some verrry local places (ones we would never find) and had excellent food. He explained how the foods were made and the ingredients, and even pointed out local monuments and points of interest along the way. It was super safe and definitely glad we did it. Just a small note: you’d be surprised how much you’ll eat, so go on a empty stomach!

Best Mumbai food tour

We had Pooja and Yash as our tour guides who really made the tour an incredible experience and made us feel like family. They took us to a variety of amazing street food location where we got to try a variety of delicious dishes. They were very knowledgeable about the tour. We went on public transport with them which really added to the whole experience. Delicious food! Cannot recommend enough. The ice cream was my favourite !!!!!

Awesome food, great experience

We went on this tour with our guide Sahil and driver Ram. Sahil was super knowledgeable of all things Mumbai and the local cuisines! He took us to several stops and offered for us to try anything additional we might like. Everything we had was delicious and I loved the ice cream at the end! I would definitely recommend booking this tour.

Love, love, love the (safe) street food

The tastiest most fabulous tour. My stomach voted this as the best tour of our time in Mumbai. I just wish I hadn’t gone as crazily for the Vada Pav… with all the rest of the courses and locations to follow… Dosas, Lassi, ice cream and every variety of street curry. Top tip don’t eat beforehand and pace yourself. We went back to Chowpatty Beach the next evening to repeat part of the experience again it was so good. Really great to know some of the best and safest places for our European stomachs to eat real street food. Appreciated the additional tips on other places to eat out too

If you can only do one thing in Mumbai - do this

This tour was the best - streetfood is a must in Mumbai but can be risky for tourists. Sahil, our guide, took us to amazing places to eat, all of which had been vetted by Magical Mumbai. We are living proof that they did a great job. Each vendor uses clean water and has appropraite hygiene standards. We couldn't eat as much as we were offered, we met some marvellous fellow diners, we were often the only Western folk in the eatery (on the street) and we returned to the vendors throughout our trip. If money is tight for you in Mumbai - this trip will pay for itself as you will no longer be limited to hotels and fancier restaurants and the food on the street is WAY better (and more fun). You will meet some fascinating people, learn a lot and eat some of the best food in the world.

More than just food - an experience

Overall I’d say it was a great experience and more than just a food tour. Selling this as food only tour is underselling the experience. However there were a few issues I have with it, which is why I didn’t give a perfect rating. Let’s start with the issues: 1. My guide was Sam and overall I’d say he was good and generally friendly but there were small verbal and non-verbal bits that weren’t great. I’d recommend focus more on the guest, try communicate more with them. 2. Too much trying too hard to sell me on another tour. Fine to mention it once, but then leave it be. I booked this tour don’t ruin it by trying you sell me even more. 3. There is a lot of walking, this should be made more clear. Not sure maybe our train didn’t stop where it was meant to stop, but we walked a long stretch just by the roadside. The good: 1. Value: There is a lot of different food involved, 6 dishes including the ice cream so be prepared to eat a lot. This is all covered and water, the transportation and guide. So I think the value was good. 2. Food: good mix of selection, maybe not groundbreaking to one being familiar with Indian food but for me it was pretty good. 3. Food safety: I had no stomach issues after the food tour 4. Information: there was some background context provided by Sam on some of the food and it’s history so that was great 5. Experience: As I wrote before this is more than just food but a great experience which is the biggest plus for me amongst all. We took a local train ride, which is an experience in of it’s own and the last stop was at the thieves market which we got to see as well. Overall it was a great and memorable experience which I can recommend just a few things that could be improved.

Excellent and flexible street food tour

Had an awesome experience from start to finish. The food was not only delicious but my tour guide Sahil - whose English is strikingly good- constantly had tons of much- appreciated information regarding not only the dishes and the city areas we were visiting but also of Indian culture as a whole. I booked this tour alongside the Dharavi slum and the market tour, doing this very tour on the same day I did the market tour. I had a flight that very same day and magical mumbai tours made sure to cater to my needs as they took me on both the market and street food tours one after the other, helping me out by transporting my luggage in a private vehicle and dropping me off at the airport afterwards. I decided to book these two tours with them after having an awesome experience visiting the Dharavi slum with them. I would definitely recommend enhancing your mumbai experience through mumbai magical tours.

Yum!!!!

Yash was a great tour guide. He took us by train to Chruchgate and walked and chatted to the beach where we had local Indian cuisine from a pop up truck. Excellent food- tried Bhel, Pav bhaji and Pani puri. Then we took cab to Muhammad Ali street which is popular with locals and tried Dosa (personally my favourite), the chicken seekh and lastly flavoured ice cream. The owners were all friendly and chatty. Great tour highly recommend!

The BEST street food tour

The tour was incredible from the start, where I was happily greeted by Sahil at my hotel. From there, he provided a detailed history of all the places we saw and introduced me to THE BEST street food and drink. Having grown up in Mumbai, Sahil had the best knowledge of everything happening in the city and what life is like there/the best times to be at each place. The tour was so great, I already booked another one for tomorrow. Do not hesitate to book!

Great options for foodies to try a bit of everything. Some good places you can feel safe eating at. Not overly informative but it was happy and fun with a good guide. A nice way to spend a warm evening in Mumbai.

Street Foods of Mumbai

This tour guide Sahil and driver Nasir went the extra mile(s) as we had booked a hotel near the airport .. so it was a long drive back and forth . This tour was the second one that we booked through Magical Mumbai Tours .. as we had so much fun with Sahil on the first tour the day before .. the food was great and interesting we got a nice cross section of foods and choices . I would recommend a empty stomach before touring as we could not finish our portions at tours end ! Got a local feel for shopping and meals and what life looks like for those Mumbai citizens ! Bon Appetite !

Great Local Food & Local Know-how Mix

It was our second tour with those great guys from Magical Mumbai Tours and it was delicious! Everyone was telling us not to eat any street food in India so we were not planning such an experience. But we got convinced, that there are secure places where we would eat and it was indeed the case. We had a great experience with Sahil, wo was growing up in Mumbai and knows every corner of the city. It was delicious, funny and a cool tour you normally don't get with a "traditional" agency. Our stomached were perfectly ok, no problems appeared. Highly recommended, you should don't miss this experience while visiting Mumbai.

Mumbai's tastiest local foods

I enjoy food and I enjoy eating. I enjoyed tasting what the locals eat and I was not disappointed. The tour ended at a family run, home made Ice Cream shop and I enjoyed my selection of the Indian apple ice cream.

<p>Well, this needs explanation. This was one of 6 tours we took in Mumbai through Viator, and all the rest rate 5 stars. This one failed dismally, but the way that Viator sorted it out and refunded our money rated 5 stars.<br/> They say that it is the way in which a company deals with a customer complaint that makes its reputation I cannot praise Viator enough for this.<br/> Yes, on the day, in Mumbai, we were disappointed and hungry - were counting on this restaurant tour!, but Viator did a super job in getting it sorted out once we had returned. Well Done, and Thanks.</p>

So so disappointing

Booked through Viator. Usually love these sort of tours and have done many of them but this didn't go well partly because they were more than 90 minutes late to pick us up and also Sam, the tour guide had a trainee/friend with him and was more interested in talking to him than to us. Very bad start when we weren't picked up from our hotel lobby as promised. We waited outside for 45 mins and phoned the contact number many times (no answer) and checked with the hotel for messages before giving up. Sometime later we were phoned by the tour operator who said that they were late because the night food places open later in winter so the tour starts later than advertised. When I said that they should advertise the correct time or ring us to change it, he became quite angry and tried to blame Viator for not giving contact details - said he had only just got our number. I pointed out that he knew our hotel as we were meeting there and could have called them or somehow not left us stranded waiting for them but he didn't actually want to hear anything like that. We made a new time and waited outside again and they were only 10 mins late this time. I wasn't going to bother doing a review but have been asked to recommend things for friends and decided to do the right thing. The guide, Sam, arrived and introduced the trainee and we said we were happy for him to come too. Most of the evening he was busy talking to the trainee and wasn't very interested in us - the trainee seemed to be more aware of the problem and often nudged him to point out things to us. The three areas we went to were also miles apart so we spent a lot of time travelling in silence apart from the guide and trainee talking to each other not in English. The food choices weren't discussed and I had to ask to get information on anything other than the actual dish they ordered. I gave up asking in the end. Its fine if you have never had Indian street food before and want to try the basics like pav bhaji and masala dosa. If you already have a reasonable knowledge of Indian street food, you won't learn much.

Must do tour of Mumbai!

My wife and I just had the street food tour of Mumbai and it was so much fun! I had been feeling ill beforehand but have come back with a smile on my face! Our guide, Sahil, and our driver Saddam ‘Vin Diesel’, were brilliant. We visited some great places off the beaten track and gave us some great food to look out for in the future. We were worried that having been in India for a little while, all of the food would have been things we’d had before but we were not disappointed as it was all new tasty food!Traffic was a little bad so be prepared for that and, as we are Veggie, the tour was shorter in time and one less stop. Other than that, Sahil and Saddam were fantastic. Five Stars.

Great Food! Great Time!

This was a great way to taste tons of street food without having to worry about the quality of place you are going to. Everything was delicious, and we did not get sick! Our stomachs were very uneasy throughout our entire trip, and go figure this street food tour was no issue! I would highly suggest taking activated charcoal pills which we did, because it certainly keeps you from digesting anything that you may not be able to handle. Anyways, the food Sunni introduced to us was SO GOOD! We are now obsessed with pav bhaji!

A great street food experience

Thank you Sam for taking such good care of us this evening for our street food tour which we very much enjoyed. A chance to sample some great local food both at the beach and in town. It was a fantastic range of dishes and I am just sorry we couldn't eat it all. Thanks also to our driver who worked magic getting us through the evening traffic.

An unpleasant experience

I have travelled and done tours all over the world and this is one I could have done without. Our guide was surly, uncommunicative and definitely unfriendly. After a brief introduction he took off at a brisk pace down the road with no information about where we were going or what we would be doing. We bustled along behind him, two elderly women, trying to keep up. When we realised he was getting away from us we called him, protesting. He then hailed a cab and got in, leaving us to manage as best we could. After some time and no conversation I asked where we were going. ‘The beach’. That’s all the information we got. We arrived and he paid the driver and took off. We shrugged and followed. He produced stools and we sat, sticking out like sore thumbs, being stared at and feeling uncomfortable. He ignored us and finally thrust a plate of food at us. I had to ask what it was. He then thrust another plate at us and devoured one himself, then finished off ours. He then jumped to his feet and left. After a moment we realised we were meant to follow. So this was our tour. Two hours with an unpleasant young man. We tried 3 foods and some ice cream. 2 places in total joined by a very long, noisy taxi ride. After this one he alighted and disappeared among the crowd. We almost lost him. Maybe if we had been young and pretty he would have been different. Who knows? When he delivered us back to the hotel he suddenly became talkative, instructing us to give him a good review on Trip Advisor with 5 stars. Sorry Sunni. You have to do a lot better than that to get 5 stars. Maybe you should look up the meaning of guide.

Didn’t happen - pick ups don’t actually occur at the hotel airport

I had a private food tour booked, and at the agreed upon pick up time, there was no one. I called the number provided, and it was explained that they don’t pick up at airport hotels. Since I booked this well in advance and have had emails from them, this was frustrating, and making last minute plans after a cancellation was not great.

Our guide Suny was great! Very informative, kind, and open minded. I highly recommend this tour. We learned about the different plates we were eating and how to eat it. The food is absolutely delicious and you get to know a little but more about the city as you move around too! GREAT TOUR :)

Great tour with Samir.

We enjoyed this food tour immensely. Sam was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly. What to expect: after you meet up with your guide, he'll take you on a train and bus to experience local transport to a beautiful beach where you'll eat some great food. Then, you'll take a taxi to your next location in a more Islamic neighbourhood to have different foods. My only suggestion to the manager is that, in the event of a full-veg guest, instead of leaving two locations out completely, offer an option to substitute the meat foods for veg. Anyway, I highly recommend.

Great street food

I highly recommend this tour. We went on it on our first day in Mumbai and it was a great way to see the city and try the local food. The food was really good and I've never tried anything like it before. We were all scared to eat street food, but this way we were able to try the real street food without a worry. Sam our tour guide taught us how to eat the food and what we were eating. Sam and our driver were really nice and easy to communicate with. Thanks Sam!

Apart from Slum (Dharawi) tour and local tastiest foods tour, he complimentary took me to see the main monuments in Mumbai. Slum tour - very very very interesting tour, Sunny answered all my questions and explained everything. Local Foods tour - simply amazing...:) carefully selected places for best street foods in Mumbai, 5 or 6 places i think. And finished by tasty icecream. Price for this private tour was also very reasonable and there are no hidden fees or expenses. All is included. I very much enjoyed and I definitely recommend it to all!

<p>We had a great tour with the knowledgeable Sam - sampling the best of the city's street food one late afternoon. He crossed off all the things we had on our list and more - catching buses and trains to get to Chow-patty beach for our first course, and stuffing our faces until we had to beg him to stop. I'd recommend this tour to absolutely anyone - veggies or meat lovers, kids or grown-ups, and to do towards the beginning of your stay. Even as a food journalist who's eaten street food all over the globe, your first street experiences in a new country are always a bit daunting as you learn the etiquette and language, but a few hours with Sam was not only a great experience in itself, but also gave us the confidence to try any street food that took our fancy during the rest of our stay.</p>

<p>This tour was an interesting experience and we recommend you try it too! The homemade ice cream by a more than 100 years old shop was absolutely delicious! Bhel Puri was also another favourite for me. Our guide Sam zoology student speaks good English and was knowledgeable. As we are travelling during the monsoon season, we brought an umbrella which came in handy.</p>
