A must-have tour for cultural and enrichment!

Me and my girlfriend were staying for a week in Mumbai which is huge and 7 days is hardly enough… But fortunately we were lucky to find this tour. Guys, believe me, it is amazing! You need to see those two sides of Mumbai life. A private slum to see one end and a Bollywood for the other one. In combination they work perfect, giving you an almost complete (for luxury one - you can go for high-end luxury restaurant in some of the 5* hotels, like The St. Regis and it’s top-floor restaurant By the Maekong) and rich experience beautifully aligned in 1 day. The private slum is very informative and Bollywood activities are so much fun - do not by shy and try dancing with the actors as well as try signing the song of your choice! And keep asking all the questions about Bollywood movies - what is counted as a secret in Hollywood - your guides will amazingly explain everything in detail if you wish! You guides - Rahul and Kamlesh - fantastic guys. They have a very good English, they are cheerful and super supporting. You feel safe and organized with them. Don’t hesitate to reach with all possible questions about Indians and Mumbaikars - they know a lot and are always with you to share. They will never hurry you as well. In addition, I will mention that, they will never stress or hint on tips or whatever, but one super detail I liked about them (during our conversation) is that they consist in a supporting organization inside the Dharavi Slums where they try to gather funds to keep teaching children and organize courses for frowns ups. The one who reads, you are not forced to , but if you will leave a tip - you can be sure it goes for the better as well. Why I mentioned this - is because the biggest part of the tickets price goes for the Bollywood tour (not slums) as of brand and extra tickets- but this tour is incomplete without Dharavi slums and guys do very great job in addition to volunteering! Bollywood with slum tour

November 24 2019 I did the Bollywood with slum tour. It was two very different but great experiences. The guide Ms Asmita has great knowledge about Bollywood and we really got behind the scenes. We got to see a real Bollywood dance performance with amazing dancers. The only bad thing was that when we got to the studios they told us that there is no recording today because it was Sunday. The whole place was pretty empty. I think they should have informed us about that when we made the reservations. In the afternoon we went on to the slum tour. The slum tour was a great learning experience and we had a fantastic guide named Rahul. For me it’s important with authentic experiences and I have to say this was the really the thing. It can’t be more authentic than this. Rahul did a great job showing us that it’s so much more to the slums than you see on tv

Highly recommended Dharavi Tour

I had a wonderful tour by the amazing guide Rahul. It is very much worth the time (half day) and cost and I think anybody passing through Mumbai should do it!! Firstly, I am a young Asian female and did the trip by myself, but felt entirely safe and comfortable the entire time. The tour of the city including Dharavi was extremely informative, with depth and facts, but also with fun emotional stories. We went to hanging garden, Ghandi Museum etc. I also did the Bollywood tour the next day, with a different guide. Although the guide was extremely professional and knowledgeable, I personally thought spending a whole half day in one studio was a bit excessive. I personally would prefer a cheaper tour with a quick 2 hrs. But still fun to see the sets and some stars ;)

Highly recommended!

I did the half day bollywood and half day slum tour with a group of friends from around the world. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. You could tell that he was having so much fun himself on the bollywood tour! The slum part of the tour was done incredibly tastefully (you cannot take photos) and once again, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and easy to understand. The slum tour is definitely a not-to-miss educational and important experience when visiting Mumbai and India in general.

Really great experience

Had a really great experience walking through the Dharavi slums where "Slumdog Millionaire" was filmed with Vishal. He was knowledgeable and is a local in the are. Went with Asmita to see SJ studio, which was so amazing. We got to play in the recording studio, meet soap opera stars who let us take pics with them, see Bollywood dancers perform, and watch a movie being filmed. Couldn't have asked for a better day.

DHARAVI SLUM TOUR

I did the Private Slum Tour and our tour guide Sagar was AMAZING! It was such an educational tour and it was incredible to visit Dharavi and learn how the people work and live there. I highly recommend this tour when you visit Mumbai.

Dharavi & Bollywood Tour

Must do tours whilst in Mumbai, I had ‘Roy’ for the slum tour and as he grew up in the area he was very informative and a fabulous guide, I even was kindly invited to have Ginger Chai at his home made by his mum - sensational. Then the Bollywood tour with Asmita to top off the day, Asmita was very experienced with this tour and knew everyone and knew her way around. A great day (but long given Mumbai traffic) but worth it - thank you both

Eye opening tour

My wife and I spent an eye opening 2 hours walking through Dharavi with Vishal, an excellent guide with wonderful local knowledge and insights. Whilst we never felt threatened in any way what we saw was harrowing and made us reflect on what we have and often take for granted. This is a must see trip for anyone visiting Mumbai. By contrast the Bollywood trip (to AJ studios) was a bit disappointing and didn’t quite live up to the scale, glitz and glamour we had imagined of Bollywood. Perhaps had we known more about it before we went it would have helped....

Eye opening

We had two seperate guides for our tours and both were very knowledgeable. The first part of our day was the slum tour. This is definitely a must-see. You will quickly lose your misconceptions and see it for what it really is - a community. The Bollywood tour was also interesting. I hadn’t realised what long days go into filming. It was a lot of fun to go behind the scenes.

Very knowledgeable tour guide for slum tour!

We did the slum and Bollywood tour. Our tour guide for the slum was a very knowledgeable guide and he had very much understanding of the industry and business activity taking place in the slum. This is a tour where you will see things that a typical tourist experience will not see such as people taking trash and converting it into useable metal/plastic (recycling process) and how large pieces of leather are taken and converted into useable products such as a purse or wallet. We saw the actual production space where workers are in conditions that would be considered poor by Western standards (ie. lack of air conditioning, poor lighting, etc.) For the Bollywood tour, it was actually only a single studio in Mumbai that we saw. We got to see how they actually setup and film scenes for a television show. The lunch included in the tour was pretty good, too. It was a set menu with a chicken dish, biryani, and naan. I believe they can do a vegetarian offering, too.

Very enjoyable tour of Dharavi and Bollywood

It was a comprehensive tour spread over two legs; A Bollywood studio tour and a tour of Dharavi Slum. Initially both tours were supposed to be on the same day. However, because Wednesday was a public holiday, there was no filming on. They facilitated us and split the tour over two days. The slum tour was a very good and sobering experience and we’d recommend it to anyone visiting Mumbai. The guide was a Dharavi local so provided excellent insight into real life in Dharavi. Our guide Gurmit was very nice and helpful and brought us to a lovely vegetarian restaurant after the tour for lunch. Cost of the lunch was included in the tour costs. Gurmit and the driver took every opportunity to explain different sites as we drove through Mumbai, even stopping to allow us to get out or take pictures where possible. We would definitely recommend the combined Bollywood and slum tour to anyone visiting Mumbai.

Good for Someone Who Really into Bollywood

The slum part was very good. My guide's name is Rahul, he made my slum tour a happy journey. He is a resident in the slum so he basically knows every single part of the community. If you only had half day in Mumbai and can only visit one place, I strongly recommend the slum tour, but doesn't necessary come with the Bollywood tour if you were not a big fan of Bollywood. Don't get me wrong, the Bollywood part of this tour is good as well. My guide (sorry I don't remember his name) is helpful and passionate about his job. You really get the chances to stand right behind the cameras to see how lots of popular Indian TV shows are recorded. Right, TV shows, not movies, if you were not extremely lucky. Movies may only come here if they need to film in a court, prison, or hospital. Normally Bollywood movies are filmed in a big studio called film city, so all the "Khans" are normally working over there. But I heard visitors can't get close to any camera or Bollywood celebs even paid for a tour over there. So this tour is more real, and we can get much closer. However, you may not recognise any face in the studio if you were not a big fan of India TV shows. Please don't expect to get a photo with Anil Kapoor like the ad shows. You would have been extremely lucky if you got the chance to even see his car parking in the car park... And, yeah, the lunch was awesome! Not a typical tour group lunch place. It has high rating on Trip Advisor. My lunch was included in my package.

Swank and Slum - see it all!

A private tour is the way to go! I felt very heard and my tour time was was catered to my tastes. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe the entire time on the tour. Sufi's (driver and guide)English is flawless. He is informative, interesting and kind - and he handles the crazy Mumbai traffic with ease. At first, I wasn't very interested in Bollywood but was so happy I had this opportunity to get an inside look at this important part of Indian culture. Rahul, the guide throughout Dharavi, (the third largest slum in the world) is terrific too. It was pouring rain but thanks to his expert maneuvering through the labyrinth of alleyways, it didn't limit the tour at all. I highly recommend this experience if you want to understand both the swanky part of Indian culture as well as seeing what life is like for 1.8 million people in the slum. Wear comfortable shoes. There's not a lot of walking, but it is on uneven surfaces. Great experience!

City Tour and Dharavi Slums tour

My tour was not including lunch, but this is the closest to the tour I had so I'm reviewing here. Had an excellent day touring the city with my friendly and informative guide Rahul, and driver Pathak. Both were extremely informative, courteous, and made sure I was safe throughout the tour. (Traffic is a lot to navigate, when on foot you must be very careful). Pathak picked me up at my hotel, and we drove into the city and picked up Rahul for the tour. At the end of the tour, Pathak dropped me back at the hotel. We went around several sites in the city, notably Dhobi Ghat the open air laundry, Ghandi home Mani Bhavan, Gateway to India, hanging gardens, and the Dharavi slums. Rahul is very knowledgeable of the city and of the country overall. I felt like I received a lot of interesting and educational information about the city and my hosts for the day are quite proud of their city! Rahul will navigate you through the narrow passages in Dharavi without a concern of getting lost (this is a feat!). The handbags in the leather industry section of Dharavi are quite beautiful, so make time to look!! All the stops were very interesting, and the full day tour went by quickly. Dress comfortably. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes. You may want to stick to close toed shoes but it isn't required. Watch your step in Dharavi and if you need to cross near traffic. So on your visit to Mumbai I definitely recommend this tour and request Rahul and Pathak!

Mumbai - crazy driving + nice ineffective people

The Bollywood tour was clearly overrated, whilst the Dharavi slum tour were fantastic. Rahul and Dagleash were most fantastic and charming tour guides. And Tiranga Tours were much better than the tour with Reality tours. Why do people say that this company is good ? Dharavi and the shopping were super. Don't even consider to rent a car, the traffic in this town is probably 3 times worse than the traffic in Italy... The city is not safe and we had on a certain time 6-8 Indians surrounding us...in a most threatening way !!! Its my clear suggestion not too pay too little for the services.. The local people are fighting in order to survive.

Amazing experience

Both Rahul and Pooja was amazing, they’re very knowledgeable, speaks good English and very nice to be around with. They’re both caring and is always looking out for us to make sure we are comfortable. Highly recommended!

Roy Was Great

Really enjoyed my tour with Roy. He was flexible and informative. If ever I go back to Mumbai I will certainly ask for him when booking another tour.

The Tour Guides were excellent and...

<p>The Tour Guides were excellent and knew their story, the vehicle we travelled in was terrible and basically dilapidated, though the air conditioner worked the vehicle was old and most things were falling apart. The driver of the vehicle was a good man though he could not communicate with us as he could not speak English.</p>

Insights You Could Not Otherwise Gain

We took this tour of Dharavi slum and Bollywood tour which made a very busy and fascinating day that took us to places we could not possibly have seen on our own. We were collected from our hotel by the wonderful Sufiyan who spoke superb English and had fantastic local knowledge. At Dharavi we were met by Vishal D who nurtured us through a fascinating 2 hour journey into the heart of this bustling and labyrinthine metropolis. We twisted through fascinating alleys and glimpsed a life that we otherwise could have had no hope of encountering. Vishal gave us clarity of understanding and helped us find great photo opportunities throughout the tour; refreshing us with delicious ginger tea and giving wonderful insights. He is a generous and gracious host. Joining Sufiyan, we enjoyed a delicious lunch before an afternoon at the SJ Studio where we caught a filming session of a local soap opera and toured the permanent sets. Sufiyan knows a great deal about Bollywood film history and is a wonderful guide, steering you to points of interest and accommodating our particular questions and queries. This is a great day out that we highly recommend. Thank you Sufiyan and Vishal for a memorable Mumbai experience.

Slum Tour

The slum tour was very informative, personalized, and non-invasive. I felt safe and comfortable for the majority of the tour. Our guide was very flexible and informative about the slums and their inner-workings.

Preis Leistung passt nicht

Die Slum Tour war interessant, hat aber nur ca. 30 Minuten gedauert. Die Bollywood Tour hat ca. 2,5 Stunden gedauert. Gesamt 6 Stunden (nicht 8 Stunden, wie angeboten), den Rest der Zeit haben wir im Auto bzw. alleine in einem kleinen lokal verbracht (das inkludiert Mittagessen). Das wäre bestimmt günstiger auch gegangen!
