We loved it here! Its SO beautiful and everyone is so friendly! The zip line was a fav! Do Superman and the monkey drop if you can!!! It was a blast! Our guides were so fun and helpful! The butterflies and Sloths were awesome! Loved the hanging bridges! The food is fantastic also! Something for everyone here! Can’t wait to come back!

Fantastic Experience !

We did the Ziplining including Tarzan Swing and Superman. It was raining, you could not see much - and it was a perfect experience. Very knowledgeable staff taking care of safety, great lines - lots of fun for all ages (parents and children). Definitively one of the best events we did in Costa Rica !

Average Tour

This was not our first time zip lining. We had a good time, we were safe. However, I would not recommend this place. We felt like we were just rushed from one line to another before we got a chance to take a breath. There is quite a bit of walking between lines. It was professionally run, but felt very mass produced, most employees were curt, except the last one who wanted to leave a good taste so we would say yes to the photo package. Unlike our experiences with other companies in Costa Rica, this definitely lacked flavor. It was just okay.

Extremely expensive for what we get

Extremely expensive for what we get We have paid 180 dollars for two people to walk with a guide that didn’t speak much and rushed us; in 50min the walk was over and we were rushed into the bus for our way back. It was a total waste of money, despite the fact we loved the nature. We advise you to look for other place… this is a factory to make easy money exploring the nature, and the tourists!!!!

Wonderful Experience Soaring Through the Canopy

My husband and I had an amazing time on the Canopy Tour. The staff are all lovely--we felt very safe and well cared-for on this tour. The staff here are like a well-oiled machine; everyone has a role, and they take safety seriously. They smoothly got us safely from line to line, seamlessly helping us get on and off each of the 13 cables, making sure you don't have to wait too long. Some of the longer cables do have a bit of a wait, depending on how many people are ziplining that day, but the wait time isn't too long, and you're in such a beautiful area, it didn't bother us to have to wait when the lines were longer. Everyone who works here is highly knowledgeable, and they made the whole experience a ton of fun for both of us! You have the option of doing "super man" on one of the last cables, but we chose to just do it regularly (tandem for weight purposes). There's also an optional "Tarzan swing" toward the end of the tour; it's actually a lot of fun, and the workers again made the experience even more fun for us with their positive attitudes and love of what they do. If you're going on a heavily-foggy day, or if it's raining, I'd recommend wearing goggles or glasses to protect your eyes. You're moving really fast on these cables, and the moisture can sting your face and eyes, and make it difficult to see, but it's still a super fun experience. And of course, since you're in the rainforest, make sure to wear rain-repelling clothing if you can. Luckily it's so warm and humid, you're not likely to get cold, but you will get pretty wet with all the moisture in the air ;) Having your photos taken are an extra $20/person, but it was worth it for us. You can decide for yourself when you get there, if you want to add it on or not. We loved Selvatura Park, and we highly recommend taking your families there (kids can go too!). Thank you!!

Canopy Tour

Amazing experience, I cannot recommend it enough. The lines move extremely fast and the experience is unreal

Rushed, unsafe feeling experience with a good bit of walking between some lines

I would not recommend this ziplining experience. It felt like a mass production, where the focus was on getting you to the next line as soon as possible. A good bit of walking uphill on trails between zip lines was also involved. It would be difficult for people who might not be fit or have mobility issues. Also, ziplining here required putting a hand on the cable behind you to keep from turning and to help slow down if needed. I have been ziplining in other areas, and this was called out as not the safest practice. Finally, don’t go in the rain. Due to the length and speed of some of these lines, the rain was pelting in our faces to the point where we couldn’t open our eyes. It wasn’t a great experience.

The best zip lining experience in Costa Rica!

I have zip lined in Costa Rica a number of times, and this this one was the best! The number of lines, the organization of the staff, and the safety all hit a top mark for me. It was a very cloudy day but that just made it even better. Do the Tarzan swing, it was so much fun. High recommend!

Raining zip lining

Even though it was raining and cold the guids were all very nice and helpful. We had a great time zip lining and will do it again when we visit.

Fun and cool zip line

This place was amazing with 13 lines going back to back. I mean, we went on another zip line and the safety was better, but the safety here was still great. The 13th zip line is so fun, if you are in the fog at least. It is so cool not being able to see what is ahead. And I loved that. Overall, recommend greatly

Must do activity in Monteverde

We signed up for the Bronze package, which was zip lining + butterfly tour, that cost around 315 USD. We signed up on-site for the photo package for an additional 70 USD coz my kids were ziplining for the first time We signed up for the 11 am slot and got there 15 mins early even, but we didn’t start till well past noon. The line was long and by the time they fit you with all the gear and give instructions it's about 1.5 hours before you actually start ziplining. The zip lining itself was about an hour long. There's a few times you have to walk a trail to the next zipline. It was lots of fun. My kids loved it. My little one was a little nervous before she started but after the instructor showed how us what to do, she was completely at ease. For reference she is 7 yo. Most of the lines are of short length and a few medium ones. Only two are really long. I recommend doing the Tarzan swing as well, it’s free. We didn’t sign up for the Superman zip line. The staff is very nice, friendly & know what they are doing. There's an employee at each end of the zipline and the line moves quickly. There is a restaurant onsite if you want to eat before or after you zipline, a tad expensive, but what do you expect atop a mountain!! The butterfly tour was not as I expected and was a bit of a disappointment. There were hardly any butterflies inside. They had a lot of chrysalis/cocoons pinned in a cupboard but we barely saw a handful fluttering about. A lot of dead ones on the floor. The tour was at best 20 mins and not really worth the additional $10 per person. The guide was knowledgable about butterflies. Maybe the sloth tour is better if you have kids. For the photo package, you are given a code at the end of your visit and pics will be available 48 hours later. Unfortunately, we were given the wrong codes for another family. We had identified the correct set of pics when we were onsite and they even printed one out the correct one, but the employee that printed the codes made a mistake. I emailed and texted on WhatsApp and about an hour later, an employee responded and emailed me the right link with my family's pics. All in all, a lovely experience. They also have a chat function on their website and the customer service folks are very helpful if you have questions before your trip.

Hanging bridges walk, sloths, reptiles

We did the hanging bridges walk, sloth tour, and reptiles tour. The hanging bridges were a nice walk through nature, however, we did not see any wildlife. We are not the best spotters but did not notice anyone else see anything. The hanging bridges were fun as they moved/swayed as you walked. If you are terrified of heights, I would not recommend. The views were also amazing to see over the canopy. The sloths were awesome! There were multiple sloths and a few were very active and we were able to see them up close. Definitely recommend! After the sloths, we decided to do the reptiles. There were multiple terrariums with each type of snakes and frogs. A guide explained each cage and pointed out each animal. The overall experience was very cool and a fun excursion. We did not do the ziplining.

Faulty equipment and reckless staff

Please be aware of the unsafe practices before you book with this company. I visited the park in July with my family and suffered a terrible accident on one of the zip lines. Near the end of the line (but before the automatic braking zone) I suddenly came to a stop for no apparent reason. However the guests waiting behind me, which were 2 children sharing 1 ride, were released early and collided with me at full force. My family had already completed this line and had to watch in horror as this was happening. As too did the parents of the children who were waiting on the other side. The whole activity had to be closed until we could be rescued from the line. Once we were taken to safety one of the staff inspected my equipment and informed me that the part that connected me to the line was faulty, which caused me to suddenly stop. We have visited many zip lines around the world but have never witnessed the reckless practice of releasing a guest before the previous one has dismounted. This shows complete disregard for the safety of their customers. The accident resulted in severe bruising and pain in my lower back. To make matters worse, the park promised to fully refund the costs of our tickets, but after nearly 4 months of chasing they have failed to do so. I hope my terrible experience will make you think again before booking with this company.

Exciting

It was an amazing experience. Carlos (our main guide) and his team were really helpful and friendly. Even though it was raining hard, it had no impact on the fun we had. We definitely recommend it.

Thrilling, exhilarating, safe, fun . . . LOVED IT !

I wouldn't say I have a fear of heights, however, let's say I am not extremely comfortable with them. So I certainly had a bit of apprehension going into this. At the end of the day, I can say that my time zip-lining was certainly the highlight of my recent trip to Costa Rica. All those involved here at the Park, especially our lead person Kendall, were amazing. They were always making sure of our personal safety, encouraging us and checking that we truly were comfortable, again . . . just great support. One thing I was most nervous of, was the Tarzan swing, but by the time I got to it, I was truly LOOKING FORWARD to the thrill. It was AMAZING. Did I mention all the BEAUTIFUL views? We were soaring above the tree lines, with incredible vistas of lush tropical flora and fauna, zipping through the air. Besides Kendall, thanks to Jonsel, Miguel, Carlos, David and Fabricio. . . By the way, if it makes a difference to anyone, I am 66. So again, my thanks to everyone at Selvatura Canopy. I highly recommend this experience. Enjoy ! ! !

Amazing views, very safe, great guides, and would do it again

Amazing views, get guides who assure your you are very safe, comfortable, and clearly explain what you need to do on each run, loved Tarzan jump, and would do it again!

Adventure!

The ziplines were great, we enjoyed our self. We took the option of making photos wich was nice. We got a lot of pictures and a movie. The employees were nice and make sure you will have a great time

Whole day adventure!

The whole family truly enjoyed it the opportunity to fly as Superman is unique, you must make the most out of it, the hanging bridges the reptile exhibition. Everything was a very nice experience!!!! We all loved it!!

Great fun

We did ziplining and hanging bridges here 12 years ago and wanted to come back this time with our 10-year-old son. Ziplining is great fun, great views, but it's now a pretty mass event. Despite that, we had a lot of fun and our son was allowed to ride everything else on his own, apart from two cables that he did in tandem with me. Spectacular views guaranteed! The park with the hanging bridges is super beautiful, if you take your time and pay attention, you'll be rewarded with great scenery and some animals

MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A DAY AT DISNEY !

After a 2 mile drive up a pot hole ridden dirt track we got to a pretty well organised car park, and then ushered towards the shock and awe of the price of this place. We took the ‘silver’ package which meant you take a walk around and then go to the sloth enclosure. USD$241 for 2 adults and one child. We literally walked around and then looked at some sloths. The sloths were admittedly great but aside from that it was a walk where we saw a few coatis. If you want zip lining or a guide, be prepared to pay twice what we paid. Butterflies ? That’s extra too. We had much better experience with a night tour and frankly anything at all in La Fortuna. Save your money and go look in the forest yourself.

Worth a visit though with a caveat

Note that this review relates specifically to the sloth, butterfly and hanging bridge experiences. Overall the venue is well run with a shuttle bus service that collects you from your accommodation and return. The canopy tour was interesting and for those who may not have experienced similar activities elsewhere in Costa Rica it is worth taking the time to explore. It is not a difficult walk and will take between 60 to 90 minutes to complete. From our experience it is not one that allowed us to see much in the way of birds or mammals though we did see a coati high up in a tree. The butterfly tour was with a guide and you had the opportunity to see some of the butterflies at close quarters. You also saw some of the enclosures where the chrysalis’s were housed with new butterflies emerging. The sloth tour however is something we did though with some initial hesitation. We were very conscious that too often captive displays such as this while in the name of conservation are really tourist traps. We did as much research as possible online before we travelled to see if there was any suggestion that the animals were collected from the wild. To the best of our understanding and confirmation from the guides with much questioning we sensed that the animals were either injured or unable to be released back into the wild. You certainly do get a chance to see sloths at very close quarters. If like us, you have initial reservations please do your own research to make sure that the welfare of the animals is primary as things can change. I would have given the experience 5/5 had I had some reassurance that it was in some way endorsed by the government of Costa Rica. The guide did tell me that they received some government funding towards protecting these incredible animals though you would think that some licensing number or declaration would be made on your ticket or at the ticket office.

Fun experience.

My family did the zip lining and hanging bridges (self guided). Both are great. It was a little raining misty when we went. I recommend doing the bridges first, because our clothes got a little wet zip lining. It was more enjoyable to walk bridges when clothes are completely dry. Rain jackets and pants (quick dry) is the way to go. The zip lining was great. Definitely enough thrills for my kids and I as first timers. The kids just hold onto the strap and carabiner. They don’t need to grab the cable ever. In fact my wife and I also didn’t need to hand break. The workers work the breaks. So the break system differences between this park and others is not a big deal. The only benefit I see is the handle system would prevent you from spinning backwards. But that is easily remedied by adjusting your body position or twisting the strap you are hanging from. Both are solutions my kids (10&13) came up with.

So So Ziplining and Death Defying Roads

The roads to get to this place are extremely bumpy and rustic. My entire family was nauseous by the time we made it up the mountain, and needed to sit awhile before we could face getting on a zipline. They make you pay for everything so there is no place to walk around while you wait without having to pay to entry to another area. Honestly, we found this zipline course just so so. My 12 and 14 year old enjoyed it but the sound of the zipline mechanism is so incredibly loud in your ear, it definitely takes away from the thrill. I went ziplining in the jungle of Puerto Rico and whatever mechanism they used there was far superior. I hated having to keep my hand on the wire (they give you special gloves) and I found it very hard to enjoy the ride because I was in effect slowing myself down by trying not to spin. The braking system was jarring and a little frightening because it seemed to come at the last possible minute. The two long ziplines, one is almost a kilometer and one is a full kilometer, were scary and I nearly lost my contacts, but overall, we survived and moderately enjoyed it. The staff was nice, but everything was very hurried and they seemed to want to get us through the course as quickly as possibly. While the scenery is definitely worth the price of this excursion, I did not enjoy the actual ziplining and would not choose this park again.

The location inside the cloud forest was great! Selvatura park was a great facility with lots to do. The canopy tour was exhilarating and the staff was so friendly. The experience was amazing!

Best Canopy tour in Monteverde

We had such a fun afternoon. Fantastic zip lining, really well organised, beautiful views and so many lines. My favourite thing was the superman line, you just felt like a bird and it’s 1km long! What really made this a great experience was the guides. Alejandro, Andres, David, Erlin, Hansel, Pablo and Scoth were super professional, really helpful, patient and fun, keeping everyone in good spirits and making sure we all felt safe and had a great time. Best Zipline Adventure Yet

My family of three had an amazing experience at Selvatura Park in Monteverde! We’ve zip lined in different places before, but none compared to this incredible experience. The park offers 13 cables across the cloud forest. The view from these zip lines are extraordinary and unforgettable! Afterwards, we went to walk their hanging bridges and even saw two quetzals perched near a hanging bridge. Everything was phenomenal!

A must do

Well organized despite the number of people. Nice equipment and the guides were top notch. We did 13 ziplines and the longest was more than .5 of a mile and the final being the Tarzan swing. Incredible experience. Because of number of people zipling, I expected we would have to stand in line waiting. Not at all. There is no need to be trepidacious. The first line is a trial run.

Fun, but not worth the money and feeling deceived.

The ziplining and environment is really remarkable, but so is the price. My biggest grievance is that we were convinced at the ticket desk to buy a photo package- again, with a very high price tag - but with the promise of 80 photographs. The "80 photographs" is very misleading advertizing. A teenager with a fancy camera awaits you on the second of 13 platforms. He hits the burst/continuous shooting mode as you zip down the first, short line. That's it. He apparently gets 80 shots from that, from which they make broken animation of you from one zipline. If, like our daughter, you're turned sideways and not really looking at the camera, tough luck. It was fun, but not worth the money.

Ziplining vastly overrated, huge letdown. Sloths and butterflies and bridgewalk are awesome.

Do not waste your time or money ziplining. This is more of a rushed, overbooked cheesy amusement park experience than anything resembling an opportunity to get closer to nature. Because there are many smelly tourists waiting their turn behind you, the "guides" who unclip your pulleys from one Zipline to the next are in a big rush to keep things moving as quickly as possible. I was repeatedly accused by them of "braking" (grabbing the cable with my gloved hand to slow myself down) and my attempts to assure them that I was not were ignored. They chastised me and just kept explaining that braking was grabbing the cable, and that I must loosen my grip and relax my hand, as if I was an imbecile. Apparently I was not going fast enough for them, although I always got to the next platform with plenty of speed, and had to be slowed down by them. One of them seemed frustrated that I couldn't understand what ever it was that he kept repeating to me (in Spanish?). After being rushed through most of the ziplines we came to the "Tarzan swing" glorified mini bungee jump) where we now had the"pure vida" wonderful ecological experience of listening to a noisy gasoline generator powering a crew's welder and metal grinders as they constructed another zipline tower beside the one we waited to ascend. Any animals, birds, or semblance of an experience of communing with nature were banished as we were forced to wait at this construction site for what seemed almost as long as the actual zip lining part of the experience for those who had paid extra to finish their Tarzan swinging. The pulleys scream in your ears, wear plugs. Or just don't go.

Great views, but underwhelming experience

Views are great, otherwise overrated. This is the only activity in Costa Rica that didn't feel like Pura vida (even though the guides mumble it now and again). The guides are nice enough, but it's a mass group, 30+, and you get rushed through the course. The guides have to do everything as quickly as possible, catching somebody coming and seeing the next to to go. Feels stressful. The Tarzan swing is only till 90kg, which is not listed anywhere before and they don't say until you're in and paid (feels a bit like a scam, when confronted they just shrug). The pictures, again, they do take them but only at the first really short and lame Zipline. The Great big lines are really great, but sissy from that, there's other companies that offer better experiences.

Zip across the cloud canopy like Superman!

I have been on ziplines before - but this set of ziplines truly stands out from the rest. The area and the grounds are beautiful, and the buildings are well maintained. There are lockers and they provide you with a lock at no additional cost. Once kitted out with the gear - including the backpack that has the bodysuit required to do the Superman zipline (a full Kilometre!). Everyone was excited and the staff, like all staff I've found in Costa Rica, are very professional and upbeat. Throughout the 13 or 14 spans we only ran in to one bottleneck of maybe 5 minutes, and as we were in the trees, we were well shaded and there was a breeze to keep you cool. The Superman zipline was really exciting, being prone and flying headfirst was a bit disorienting and I've got to say that it got my adrenaline pumping - absolutely worth the cost. One thing to be aware of, and this would likely not be an issue for someone younger and fitter than I am. There are 3 hikes between platforms along the route, each hike is uphill and I found it a bit tiring. But as everyone else seemed not to care and was having a ball I just attributed it to my personal fitness. For the record I'm in my 60's and am reasonably fit. Not a showstopper by any means - but something to be aware of. All in all it was a great excursion, I'm glad I went and I'm happy to recommend this tour to anyone.

Unreal views

What a fantastic day - very well organised and every member of staff was friendly, professional, hard working and just great! The views on the zip lines were unreal you literally felt like you were flying through the trees of the cloud forest - would highly recommend whilst in monteverde

Amazing Experience!

so fun!! I'd been zip lining in other countries and this made those experiences feel like child's play. This one had super fast lines and it was a rush going from one tower to the next in quick succession, and there's just no comparison to flying through the air in a jungle. At the same time, if people were a little uneasy, the guides were very helpful to make it a fun experience for those that might be a little scared of it. 100% would recommend.

Great all around experience

We did the all inclusive package and we were not disappointed. It is a pretty long day if you do everything Zipline: great set of lines, and the Tarzan swing is a fun added bonus. Unique way to see the rainforest Reptile house, butterfly garden and sloths: great way to see a wide variety of animals quickly. The sloth house let's you get to close. Hanging bridges: very cool after ziplining to get a slow view of the forest, decent amount of walking with a few hills

Wow!

So not the cheapest experience in Costa Rica but it is sooooo worth it! Miles of zip lines of different lengths & speeds, a Tarzan swing and a superman option. Great view and a great experience! It can get quite crowded but people filter through quickly and there wasn’t too much of a wait for each zip line when i was there. There are a few walks between zip lines that can be a bit strenuous when you are carrying all the equipment and it’s strapped tightly around your middle! Add extra weight for the superman harness in a backpack if you go for that too ($15 extra)

Great zip lining experience!

We had a great adventure at Selvatura. It is a very well run and efficient operation. There were 13 zip lines including two long ones of (600 meters and 1000 meters). The 1000 meter zipline, that was the last one, was a great way to end the day, with beautiful panoramic views of the forest and valley. It’s hard to imagine how any of the other companies and settings could beat the experience we had!

Great Zip Lining Experience

With so many Zip Lining parks how do you decide which one - well I trusted the combo of online & TA reviews and they came up trumps. Things were a little chaotic on arrival at 08.30, with people & queues at reception (note - everyone has advance bookings) but don’t stress & just join the line. We opted for the Full Monty ie. The Photo & Video package (extra $20 pp as I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to take pics en-route) and the final zip line in the inverted Superman position (extra $12 pp - but sooo worth it !!). Once you’re fitted with your harnesses & helmets your whisked off in a minivan to the start where you get a brief demo & then you’re off. Be aware there’s quite a few steps to climb & some uphill walks between the zip lines but only moderate fitness required. I did the optional Tarzan swing which was great fun - if you dare, just be prepared for the wedgie!! There’s 13 zip lines in total of differing lengths & speeds and a couple you can do as a double with a partner. I’d thoroughly recommend the extra $12 for the “Superman”, an exhilarating way to finish the canopy tour! We also booked the Sloth Sanctuary tour which you can do afterwards on foot & you only need an additional 30 mins or so - as we sadly haven’t been lucky enough to see any on our day or night hikes it offers a great opportunity to see them up close & whilst it is an enclosure, they appear to be well cared for having been rescued from peril.

Great experience with our teenagers

It was my second time zip lining in Costa Rica and the first time for our kids. We all loved it, even though the kids were apprehensive before we started. The guides were very friendly. The views were spectacular and there were a few very long runs, especially the 800m & 1km lines. It moved very efficiently and we were disappointed when it had to end. The Tarzan swing was fun too. We didn’t do the Superman on the 1km run but it did look exhilaratingly fun or terrifying, depending on your perspective. Would definitely recommend.

an absolute MUST: zip-lining in the forest!!!!

There are few words to adequately explain the feeling of zip-lining in the middle of the lush green forest. I could do the exact same canopy tour over and over and never get tired of it- I felt so happy and safe and accomplished! The staff was incredible and maintained the crowd so efficiently. 10/10 highly recommend Selvatura Park! :D

Very efficient

Ziplining was amazing , not too far from Santa Elena . The helmets smelt bad and didn’t seem to be cleaned . There is significant walk between ziplines but the scenery makes up for it . Staff seems to be underpaid they are too boxes along with a request to pay for tip at the end. Not every one can do the Tarzan swing there is a weight limit also similarly with Superman there is an age limit .

First time, 72 yo, felt very safe.

Husband and I, both 72yo, first time to zip line. Guides equipping you made you feel completely safe. Had a wonderful morning, would do it again. So much fun, although weather drizzling. Thank you👍👍

What an exciting morning of zip-lining or Canopy!

A lovely and exciting experience in misty Monteverde. We were very well instructed and controlled by a bunch of very professional ziplining experts. Started a little scared, but after the first of 13 lines, the excitement and the beauty of the treetops overwhelmed the scaring part. Moreover you feel very safe with those guys around. In the end I still decided to add the Tarzan swing. A lot of compliments for the instructors. Thanks for the wonderful morning

Awesome ziplining

I'm a bit scared of heights and I was nervous before going on the tour so I wanted to share my experience in case others are in the same position. The ziplines were super fun and the views were beautiful and once I was on them I wasn't scared at all! The staff was super professional and efficient and I felt very safe. I also did the Tarzan swing which was really fun. I would definitely recommend the experience! Also, I had read that you have to brake with a glove to stop and I was a bit worried about that, but it turns out they have automatic brakes on each line! Plus braking with the glove was pretty easy too.

Best experience

This was the highlight of my trip to Monteverde. I was on a strict time schedule so I decided to just go to Selvatura Park to experience the cloud forest, hanging bridges, and zip line (canopy tours) all in one. Best decision ever. We spent around 3- 4 hours at the park. They have the best zip lines I’ve ever experienced. The workers at the park were so nice and well organized.
