Melbourne Sunset Kayaking Experience with Dinner

Exceptional

Kayaking for the first time was amazing. , I felt calm and peaceful. . I enjoyed the tour, the sunset, and paddling along the river. I knew by the end that kayaking would be a hobby I'd love, giving me lots of chances to enjoy nature.

So fun!

Decided to book this spontaneously earlier in the day and we had the most fantastic time. Gus and Aiden were so knowledgeable and helpful. Such a unique and fun way to take in the ambience of Melbourne- especially with add ons like getting to stop and see the fire show outside the Crown. Will remember this experience for a long time to come!

Best way to see Melbourne from the comfort of your very own kayak!

Absolutely awesome evening kayaking up and around the Yarra River from Docklands to Fed Square. Ari and Adam got us all set up and in our kayaks with a great safety and instruction briefing and we very very quickly on our way. The kayaks also have rudders which make steering and avoiding obstacles a breeze 😀 Anyone can do it, even those with no previous experience! A must do excursion for locals and visitors alike! Certainly deserves the 5 stars! Thanks again for the great night.

Great for singles, friends, and families!

This was a wonderful and low-key experience! After going through the necessary basics of kayaking in the double kayaks they have, we loaded our boats into the water, kayaked up the river, and would stop every now and again to hear tidbits from our guide. Halfway through we stopped for dinner, tied up the boats at a dock, and shared a simple communal experience eating in the kayaks themselves with delicious takeaway from a riverside restaurant. (There are more options on the menu than just fish and chips—the grilled fish was excellent!) It was a beautiful sunset and very relaxing evening, even though paddling a kayak is a bit of exercise. We didn’t need to go very fast though. I would definitely recommend this!

Highly recommend!

A great evening with friendly and competent guides. The view of the city from the water is a different experience and particularly lovely at night. You'll need a reasonable level of fitness for the paddling but it felt safe and comfortable with excellent equipment provided. We thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks Kayak Melbourne!

Lovely views and shows kayaking along the harbour

Austin our guide was very experienced and knowledgeable of Melbourne harbour history, it was fun kayaking along with other great kayakers and dinner on the kayak made it quite unique 👍

Highly recommended. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the kayak experience. Our guides, Austin and Arron were both excellent. The only reason it’s not five stars is that we felt it would have been better with fewer people and we could have done more kayaking.

Beautiful evening

Beautiful night. Pretty when the sun set and we saw the fire show. The dinner was very good. Seems maybe someone got called in last minute to work . I thought I signed up for a single kayak and they were very heavy to load in the water . Slow to start waiting , signing papers, briefing etc . But the kayak aspect was refreshing when the sun went down. Peaceful and informative .

Magical experience

I purchased this as a birthday gift for my friend - we had such a great night! I had no kayak experience before. The instructions were clear and the tour was well-guided. Kayak Melbourne really looked after everyone on water. I felt safe and was able to enjoy myself. The talks about several landmarks and Melbourne's history were a nice touch. Although we were a bit far and behind at some points and missed a few talks. Dinner on the water was such a welcome break from the constant paddling (I got so hungry!). Combining the calming water, sunset, companion, exercise and the spectacular view of Melbourne nightfall, it's a magical experience and is worth every penny. I would recommend this tour and Kayak Melbourne to anyone who's looking for a special thing to do with loved ones in the City.

Magical

The most memorable experience was kayaking down the Yarra river admiring the scenery on a perfect night and having dinner in the kayak. It was magical!

Row, row, row your boat

Had a fabulous time on the water. Our guide was very knowledgeable (if a little lacking in volume). Dinner was sufficient. Overall, the experience was fantastic and made me happy! :) In fact, all of this (almost) made me forget about the apparent disorganization at the beginning of this experience (hence the loss of 1 star). Do I want to go kayaking again? For shore.

Great experience

A kayak trip along the Yarra river is an excellent way of seeing the sites of the Melbourne waterside from a different perspective. The evening trip meant we saw the city lit up in a way not many visitors get to experience and the dinner aboard was a unique, fun and surprisingly tasty opportunity to take a rest from the exertions of paddling. I would thoroughly recommend this activity if you are ever visitng the wonderful city of Melbourne.

If you love kayaking then it’s a must-do activity for you.

It was an amazing experience enjoying the sunset on the Yarra River while kayaking, and our instructors were friendly and helpful. However, I felt very cold and regretted not bringing my puffer jacket with me. Nevertheless, it was still a memorable experience.

Ben and Charlie were amazing hosts! The activity was well organised and it’s a fantastic time as we got to see the Christmas lights without being amongst the crowd.

Nice Experience, unique views.

Stunning setting, unique experience, with nice views and an opportunity to see the city from a different perspective. (Taller or larger people can have a hard time with leg length in the kayak, be aware of this)

A great birthday gift

From the start at docklands at 6.30pm to the end of our kayak at federation square at 9.30pm and Severn thing in between was perfect including the weather. Plenty of photos taken at different stages, dinner was fantastic, felt comfortable the whole time. The tour guide were very knowledgeable “thankyou guys” This was a birthday gift for us. Would thoroughly recommend this.

Cruisy kayak trip

Cruisy trip with a whole new view of Melbourne CBD and Southbank. Great to do this trip soon to catch the Christmas lights.

Great experience and...

Great experience and something we would never have thought of trying before. You can be a complete beginner, the kayaks are very stable and you get to see stunning views of the city as the sun sets. Our two guides were brilliant with the group and the dinner, eaten in your kayak, was really tasty.

An amazing experience! We had about 3 hours on the water which flew by. Adam our instructor was very friendly, easy to understand when explaining kayaking technique to us and had good knowledge on the harbour talking us through the history of the area. Great tasty dinner and amazing seeing the harbour at sunset. Would highly recommend this as a unique and fun experience if you’re visiting Melbourne! Thanks again Adam, Lucy & Joss

Magical sunset excursion

Fabulous magical excursion around Melbourne after dark! Don't miss it! The whole trip was a blast! We were well looked after with wind and rain proofing so that even though there was some drizzle it did not affect our enjoyment. It was lovely to meet a whole bunch of different people taking the same adventure tour. The lights were amazing!

We had a good time! Very professional and well guided tour. Adam was brilliant! He took his time to explain the history of the buildings that we past by.

An awesome city experience

The whole experience was wonderful. The paddling was easy going and appropriate for even those that are unfit or not used to paddling. The views of the city were spectacular from the angle of the river. The commentary from the guides was informative. All in all, it is an awesome city experience.

Best experience in Melbourne

Amazing experience, amazing tour, amazing people. first time on the kayak and it was simply incredible, we ate on the kayak fish and chips with beautiful people and instructor and of course with the sunset and all the colours the sky of Melbourne as to offer to us.. a massive thanks to James and Ben our instructor (you made our night)... thank you again we will return..

Really enjoyed seeing Melbourne from a different perspective. Love Melbourne architecture. Tour was great as were the guides and enjoyed the fish and chips. Only negative was the faffing around at the start as they tried to organize everyone

nice relaxing kayaking

kayaks very comfy and easy to drive with the steer pedals. Simply great.Very nice landscapes. I would recommend this to everybody. Nice seeing from the yarra the Crown Fireballs.

Great way to explore the river

Absolutely fabulous evening kayaking with a dinner stop (fish and chips and other options) on the Yarra River. We took part as a family of 6 ( adults of varying ages) and Aiden was a brilliant tour guide. Highly recommend this trip

A nite on the Yarra

We had a glorious nite, calm waters, clear skies and warm. The tour ws brilliant from providing the basic tranining to get everyone orient and keep us safe. Guides were great and I had the fish and chips and devoured it - yum! A few surprises along the way, good orientation to history of the Docklands and viewpoints along the way. Stunning night lights and finished off with a bang - the fire balls! My friend is coming to stay in March 2023 and will consier going again. Well Done!

Romantic Kayak

Came here with my wife as my christmas present to her. The instructors were really good at explaining everything and helping us to get going. Unfortunately I was a little too tall for the kayak and it made it rather uncomfortable. At 196cm it won't affect many people but if you are this tall you might want to consider something else. We paddled out under the Bolte bridge and then up the river. Our guides gave us some facts about the different places which was interesting although could be a bit hard to hear with the kayaks spread out across the water. We had dinner on the water with options of fish and chips or pizza. Eating while still in the kayak was sort of fun but also sort of cold and uncomfortable. We were also attacked by a swan :O The sunset never really happened unfortunately but I can't blame them for that. The fire show at crown was cool. I highly recommend parking at boathouse drive where the tour ends rather than near the start!

Excellent city kayaking

We had an enjoyable evening kayaking, it was great to watch the city as the sun set and the lights came on. The guides were helpful and knowledgeable. Even as beginner kayakers, we felt comfortable on the water. Dinner of Fish & Chips was delicious and fun to eat it whilst in the kayaks. Do bring a towel or change of clothes as you can get quite wet.

Relaxing experience with mix feelings about dinner

It was very structured which was excellent. Highly recommend you bring a jacket if you do the late evening one and you start the night warm because it does get cold. I took my best girlfriend and her partner on this experience to celebrate her birthday. If you have someone that requires lots of food, order a pizza and don’t get the fish and chips. I would highly not recommend getting the fish and salad because they don’t provide you with any cutlery so I just had to eat the salad with my hands. Good wasn’t bad but we did wait a bit. You eat in your Kayak which is where you can get cold quickly because your standing still. I would highly recommend you bring your own water bottle as well because the experience doesn’t provide you water during dinner. Overall, it was relaxing and fun on the waters.

Surprising, interesting way to spend an evening - highly recommend.

This was a surprise for my partner’s birthday, arranged by old friends. Wasn’t properly dressed and didn’t know what to expect, but what a pleasant surprise! Guides were great - just the right blend of instruction, information and guidance - relaxed and good to chat to as well. Special shout-out to Angus and Rick. Interesting and involving way to view Melbourne’s various skylines, from Victoria Harbour, Bolte Bridge, South Wharf, Crown, Flinders Street Station and Fed Square. Learned new skills as well as enjoying a light workout. Mild winter’s evening, got splashed a bit (probably because of my deficient technique) but a terrific experience overall. I recommend this to everyone - tourists and locals alike. Only things I’d suggest as improvements are slightly smaller groups (our group got strung out and delayed because of varying degrees of competency) and the inclusion of transport back to the starting point where our cars were parked. This was a 95/100 experience, so 5 stars all the way.

Hands down one of the best experiences we've had in Melbourne

Our guides were fun, helpful, knowledgeable and great to banter with. The scenery and the general experience of kayaking along the Yarra, including under the Bolte Bridge, left our family in awe!! Eating our fish and chips dinner in our kayaks just added to the novelty and fun, while we chatted to others in our group. Simply one of the best family experiences we've shared. Thank you so much!

Best tour ever!!!

I have been living in Melbourne for 4 years and this is hands down my favorite tour i've done. Will be bringing all friends and family to go! They provide all the gear, waterproof bags, splash guard and waterproof jacket so you are kept warm (I went in Winter!). The view is one i've never experienced before, such a good way to see a city!

Must do activity whilst in Melbourne!

Absolutely loved this tour. Our instructors Aidan and Imad were so good. They made sure we were all comfortable and relaxed. We were given safety gear, instructions and waterproof gear. Maybe a few larger sizes might be good to have on hand. Not the fault of the kayaking company, but we wanted to see Crown Casino’s fire display from the water, but due to climate regulations, they were switched off. We were given some dinner and diet restrictions were catered to. An amazing experience. Anyone new to kayaking would truly love this experience too! The city views were AMAZING- the weather helped a lot in this!

Great fun - will do this again!

My expectations were exceeded. I am a Melbourne Docklands local resident that wanted to see the river and city from a different angle, and I was not disappointed. The guides were delightful, fun, well informed, respectful and good company. We were provided with a splash-proof light jacket plus a comfortable 'life jacket'. The kayaks were for two people and easy to maneuvre. Victoria Harbour and the Bolte Bridge look pretty spectacular when the sun sets, as does the night-lit city as you move upstream. One couple could not manage their kayak so one of our fit guides towed them for part of the way. My group of 5 adults had a ball, and I would repeat the experience again in a heartbeat!

We got the gathering point wrong, but organizers contacted us and guided to the right location. We started late, but it was perfect in every inch!

The two guides were awesome fun, full of facts, and very funny. The kayaks easy to use, well maintained clean and perfect for beginners. The scenery from the water at night is spectacular, it is so very pretty. We Loved the experience and plan to take some friends with us next time. Thankyou 💕

Unique experience, good workout!

This was a fun, unique way to see Melbourne from the river. The kayak was easy to operate, though of course required some effort to paddle. A solid workout! The fish and chips dinner was pretty simple (my husband said it was like a kids meal) and we ate right in our kayaks towards the start of the experience. With two guides in our group, we felt cared for though it did also feel like we were being herded around a bit. Our lead guide pointed out landmarks and talked about the city's history as we went which was insightful. One surprise was that we ended the tour in a different place than we started. It wasn't a big problem for us - we hadn't driven to the starting point - but I feel like that should be more clearly stated when registering.
