This is a fascinating and entertaining way to become familiar with this amazing city. The guides told some gripping yarns of Old Melbourne as we wander through the lanes and streets, painting a picture of a colourful past and their ghostly remains. This is an ideal tour not only for visitors, but for Melbourne residents. I was born and have grown up and lived here all my life and still learnt things that have changed the way that I look at my birthplace. I really enjoyed myself. The tour itself is expertly organised by a very professional crew and I can’t recommend this highly enough. There are some other tours offered as well, and I may do them at a later date. Ask for prices before you order

Guide picks the bars. You get handed menus without prices of items they want you to order. Kinda shady and annoying.

Informative with a dash of humour and a pint of beer

This trip was fun! Lenny knew so much, and his stories were entertaining and informative., with a side of humour. He knew so much! The boozy breaks brought the group together. The stores made me look at Melbourne with new eyes.

Great even for locals

Fantastic afternoon

I had a lot of fun on this tour and our guide Brigette was great. Funny weird occasionally creepy stories and a great take on the history of Melbourne. The bars we visited were very cool. I would not have found them on my own.

Guide needed to be more experienced and presentable. Tour content very limited and boring. Explanation of time at bars etc needed to have been told before the tour set out.

Great time!

Alda was a great guide and we had a fantastic time! We ended up going to the old jail later in the week based on the stories we heard. The jail was very interesting.

Spooky tales and yummy cocktails

Had so much fun and shout out to our tour guide Brigette! Was a little nervous to join on my own but ended up being the best night! Brigette is a true historian and shared her passion and humour with us. Great historical information with an appropriate amount of macabre content to live up to the title. Bars were spread out over the downtown core and interesting with a nice selection of beer, wine, yummy cocktails and assorted non-alcoholic drinks as well. Would definitely do another tour with Brigette if I come back. Thank you!

Save your money

This was my first time on this tour. I was quite disappointed in our tour guides I believe one was named Gabriela and she had a helper. It felt like a majority if the time she was talking to him and not the 6 of us in the group. The stories lacked very little information and details and were not at all engaging. I feel like I spent way too much money for that it was worth and I purchased the tickets without the drinks. I would not attend nor recommend any friends or family this tour.

Talk, Drink, Learn!

Alda was delightful and well versed in the history of Melbourne! The tour was filled with fun facts and good humour with the other people in the group. We had such a good time that we stayed at the last bar for an extra 45 minutes or so! 10/10 would recommend!

Tale by Tale, Pint by Pint

We were lucky to be hosted by the Big Bossman Ben as he brought us on a walk down CBD across a few landmarks, such as QV market down south to Flinders. Tale by Tale, Pint by Pint we were delightfully entertained with stories of creepy/scary/ghostly history bits of Melbourne City which you wouldn't come across even if you walked every single pavement of the CBD. Thanks for the introduction to the laneway bar scene as well!

Worth every cent

We did the Hidden Bars & Creepy Tales tour on the weekend and had the best time. We learned so much interesting, grisly and spooky history walking through the streets of our state’s capital, thanks to our fantastic, knowledgeable and fun guide Lenny. The three bars we visited were very funky and made THE coolest looking cocktails. Definitely considering a return to Melbourne soon for another tour from your offerings. Thanks for a fun afternoon.

History with drinks

Our tour guide had heaps of information and each bar was unique. A great way to access bits about Melbourne. Thanks Alba, we had a great afternoon.

It was ok, but we would have preferred Historical bars over their hidden bars selection..

The guide was good, the creepy tales were interesting & the historical tour stops were appropriate... but the hidden bars were disappointing. Bar #1 - Workshop: average (at least we had a decent place to sit & get to know other tour-goers). Bar #2 - Ferdydurke: the worst (they crammed us in the back of the bar & obviously weren't prepared to seat a large group. I don't know why this bar was chosen for the tour as it wasn't a big enough place, when already full of the usual patrons. Also the music was garbage & too loud to actually chat, so we all sat awkwardly drinking our drinks until it was time to leave). Bar #3 - Jack & Bones: average (decent food & drinks + available seating, but the guide bailed soon after arriving due to needing to catch a late tram home, so the tour felt like it fell flat at the end). Honestly, due to the historical nature of the rest of the tour, we would have preferred to attend historical bars instead (E.g., Oxford Scholar + Young & Jackson).

Our tour guide, Alda, was very nice & knowledgeable about Melbourne, took us to 3 bars, Alda had lots of stories to tell us at different locations, we also loved meeting others in the tour group,

Not as expected

Guide very nice but tales not very creepy or interesting and took too long to get the actual reason for the story. Would have been nice to have more than a “quick drink” in each bar. First bar nice and quirky 2nd bar terrible and 3rd bar excellent.

Interesting but not scary

Our guide Alfa was very knowledgeable and the stories she told were interesting but I had expected a more ghostly and slightly scary experience. The bars were fun especially the last one with a hidden door. But overall the description did not match what I expected.

We had lenni as a guide and I must say, he is extremely enthusiastic about his job, but he actually MAKES the tour. Lenni is a wealth of knowledge, and a great tour guide. He seems to be a really good person and really excellent with people. I would indeed go on a tour like this again, but me personally I will wait for summer and I will have a whole group of friends do the tour with me... Highly recommend... Something you must do

The bars were amazing and the stories even better. One of the bars has trouble letting a guide dog in-they did eventually. Dealing with management was exceptional and very accommodating. Well done

Very interesting and entertaining tour of a fair coverage of the Melbourne CBD. The dialogue was informative and Alda our tour guide had a wealth of the facts beyond just the script. The three bars that we visited were all very different and all very interesting in their atmosphere and vibe. All in all highly recommended.

Fun boozy adventure

Mercedes made sure we had a great time. Such a fun tour with excellent ghost stories and local knowledge. Also Mercedes made sure we had a list of local bars and restaurants to go to during the rest of our trip. 10/10 recommend. The experience was as if we were hitting local bars with friends. Great walk through the city, learning about Melbourne history. I was shocked that things I had walked past a billion times in my daily life, had such rich stories about the fabric of Melbourne. Amazing!

Great walking tour!!

Kahlia was an amazing tour guide! She had great knowledge of the area and lots of interesting facts. Kahlia took us to places we would never have found by ourselves. The street art down the little alleys was amazing. Kahlia’s people skills were excellent and the whole tour group had a great time. Highly recommend the walking tour of Melbourne CBD.

Not Worth The Money

I did the tour with a friend of mine as we saw really good reviews for it and both enjoy learning about a new city and having a pint. We were meant to be on the normal history tour but they couldn't get the minimum amount of people. We agreed to go on the creepy tour with a generous 10% off. The tour consisted of 3 bars over the course of 3 hours. The service in in the first 2 bars were extremely slow to the point the guide made a comment about it. The bar tender in the second bar was also quite rude to my friend. She didn't believe he was on the tour even though he stated he was and she tried to charge him for the drink. Once the guide came up to clarify, she blamed him saying that he didn't say he was on the tour and ignored his drink request for quite awhile. This forced us to down our drinks again after the slow service from the first bar. The other issue was the weather. It was raining really badly throughout the tour and although my friend and I had jackets, other members of the tour did not. The weather was so bad that my friend and I thought of abandoning the tour and just finding a local bar to get shelter. I believe that the guide should have read the room alittle and found a local bar to shelter in. We would have been happy to pay for our own drinks and listen to her talk. Spending nearly £80 pounds each, I would have thought there would have been abit more than 3 drinks in total for the tour and that the guide would have seen that the tour was not viable in such weather and abandoned it.

Great way to explore central Melbourne. Some interesting history incorporated with plenty of exercise and a few pints, a perfect afternoon. Also met some great people on the walk.. Thoroughly recommended.
