A wonderful day out in the Lake District. Collin was amazing showing us the wonderful countryside. The boat and train ride lead to a lovely and relaxing afternoon. Highly recommend

What a wonderful experience we had. Colin our driver was a marvel. Great customer service skills. Fantastic weather all day. Typical Manchester weather on the way home. Showed us places of interest. I highly recommend this trip.

Beautiful Scenery

Really enjoyed this tour, beautiful scenery and fortunately really good weather. Our guide/driver Tom was excellent, good driver and knowledgeable. Cruise on the lake was stunning. Highly recommend this tour, one of my favourites.

Excellent tour of Lake District!

We have always rented a vehicle and done touring on our own, but with only a couple of days in Manchester and the strong desire to see the Lake District, we signed up for the Mountain Goat van tour. It turned out to be so great, we’ll start making these kind of tours a regular part of our visits to new places. We got to see and experience many of the highlights of the area (including the train and boating experience on Lake Windermere) with an awesome driver/guide/advisor - Tom - who answered our endless questions with as much enthusiasm and patience at the beginning of the tour as he did at the end of our 10 hours of adventuring! A high quality tour. We were completely satisfied.

A good way to see a lot in one day!

Tom was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and agreeable. The itinerary allows you to see a lot in a short time. The last stop seemed redundant and that time could have allowed longer to explore in Hawkshead village. Tip to Viator: give more info on pick-up info. We didn't know who or what kind of vehicle we were looking for at the pick-up. Had to call the service number for info. This would have been a lot more problematic if we didn't speak English.

Awesome journey to the Lake District

An amazing tour, our driver Tom was an excellent guide. Good weather and very nice travelers from different countries (Australia, Korea, Japan, India and France).

A trip out of this world

We embarked on a fantastic tour of the Windermere Lake with our brilliant driver and guide Tom. His driving expertise, his cracking storytelling on top of the effort to offer us the best of the Lake District made it a unique experience. He went the extra mile to make this trip feel special to our group. He really tried to give us an insightful and genuine and authentic experience and I feel like we have had a dream trip in that area ! The mini-bus was roomy, air-conditioned, with large windows to take pictures of the breathtaking scenery and I, who generally get travel-sick in an instant, never did ! Our stop-over in Hawshead was out of this world and I cannot recommend the company enough. Our group was composed of many nationalities - Australia, India, Korea, Japan, HK and people were very friendly !

Lake District tour

Everything was great picked up on time . Told where and what we were going to do and see . The driver was really good kept the banner going telling folklore tales and interesting facts about the different areas we were going to .plenty of chances to get out and take photos and just take In the scenery of lake district . Will be going again very soon because no 2 days ate the same in the lakes. Even viewing standing in the same spots you won't see the same as your 1st visit .thanks for a great day as it was my 1st time in the lakes for 43 yrs . But this was for a special family reason I went this time! As it was one of my mother's favourite places she visited so it's given me some very special memories.

A landscape alive with history and natural wonder and beauty.

Beauty opened up as Tom introduced this most beautiful of English rugged and gentle landscapes. Thoroughly enjoyed the cruise on Lake Windemere and a paddle afterwards. Loved the craft stall in Hawkshead with some very unique items and lovely artists happy to have a natter. The church is so beautiful and the grammar school is history come alive. Can understand why William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter loved this landscape so much. Thanks especially to Tom who was an excellent guide and navigator. His local knowledge and respect and love for the land was a great testament to him.

Great Experience

The tour was brilliantly presented with breathtaking landmarks and views. The tour operator was also quite knowledgeable about everything.

A Good Lake District Intro

A very convenient and comfortable way to see a bit of the beautiful Lake District if, like me, you do not drive. The tour is mostly about the scenery, which is fine, but ideally I would have appreciated a couple more historic stops. Hawkshead Grammar School was sweet. The ferry boat ride was pleasant and the weather cooperated. Tom, our guide, was very kind and accommodating to all. He was just being trained by Jean, and the two of them together supplied interesting commentary along the way. An enjoyable day.

Amazing experience

Elliot the driver, explained the history so well, he was very patient & knowledgeable. Such a beautiful experience, we enjoyed the boat trip, castle, food- local village fish & chips. My teenage daughter loved the experience

Magical trip

Our trip was scheduled on a very wintery day, but our guide turned it into a terrific trip, despite of the weather. We saw snow, rain and sunshine and enjoyed every minute. Our guide was very knowledgable, friendly and accomodated our interests and pace. I highly recommend this trip.

I had a lovely time! Didn’t have a hard time looking for the meet up location. Travel was comfortable and I felt safe.

Amazing

Me and my partner Aiden had such a great day! Jean was amazing and made the whole day so fun. She was so cheery and down to earth. It started off rainy but she made it so positive and was amazing even with the weather being dull! She stopped and showed us fantastic places. Its such a stunning place, there wasn't one part we didnt enjoy! Defo recommend to book!

Great tour, experienced guide. It takes you beyond the usual touristic spots. Definitely worth the price paid.

Sit back and enjoy the Lake!

We had a fantastic day out from Manchester to Lake District. It only took an hour and a half to get to the Lake, which was faster than I expected. Jean is a professional tour guide and driver as well! She is so experienced and cheerful. Although we were the only two in the tour, she still kept introducing us the great scenes in the Lake and telling us every history behind. We really enjoyed our day out! Hoping to visit the Lake again in summer. Will be a completely different experience!

Lovely scenery, a lot of sitting

Had no idea what to expect on this tour and was blown away by the beauty of the lake district. We drove a lot as the lake district is quite a ways out of Manchester and we even stayed on the bus through many places I would have loved to stop. I felt as though we didn't have much time to explore off the bus or we stopped in places where I felt as though we didn't need as much time. Overall a great 10 hours of sightseeing nature's beauty.

Breathtaking sceneries

A very relaxing tour around the Lake District visiting a lot of different places. The scenery is beautiful and relaxing. Tour leader was really friendly and customed the stops to the group that we were. The group is limited as well so easy to agree and feel as a family. The tour also includes a boat trip. Really enjoyed the day and will do it again in the future.

A great day at the Lake District, especially with our excellent driver Mike, was up to expectations and even more.

Beautiful trip, better than expected, with a very kind guide

The journey takes place in a comfortable minivan (15 people). The guide (in my case a very kind woman) made everyone comfortable and helped with suggestions as much as she could. The trip stops at many different points along the way to Windermere. The house of Beatrix Potter is shown only from the bus, but it is not a big problem - you can take some beautiful photos of it also from the bus). The stop at Wordsworth school is a treat - the visit at the school (2.50 pounds) is optional but I suggest to do it. You are given free time at this point, for lunch. The village is very pictoresque and worth walking around it (it is very small). There is a country church and churchyard right next to the school that is worth visiting (even if it will take away all the time for lunch). Other stops along the way are really nice (very beautiful landscapes). Maybe the most disappointing part is the Lake Windermere cruise: you just go by boat from a dock to another of the lake in 20 minutes. The landscape isn't that special and I guess that time could be better used to see other places (or views). Overall a highly recommended trip.

Amazing, beautiful, fun, serene, was a wonderful wonderful day. Jan or Jen was so informative fun and friendly.

A very good day in the Lakes.

We were staying in Manchester and planning various days out including the Lake District and searching on line found the Mountain Goat day trips from the City. Pick up was exactly as arranged and the day covered a number of the areas highlights. From our personal point of view we would have preferred more time in Hawkshead, where, apart from a lunch venue, the options include visits to the interesting church and the grammar school. Perhaps less time at Wray Castle, which at present has limited facilities. Nevertheless, it was a very good day, and Jean, our driver/guide was excellent, relaxed and knowledgeable . We will certainly be staying in Manchester again and will be looking to enjoy another of the Mountain Goat tours.
