Whilst Guernica was what we really wanted to see, we loved a lot of the other offerings (there were really interesting Picasso and Dali's, as well as many many others - also some of the old/ancient architectural drawings are amazing) Superficially Guernica appeared simply big and drab, until we read the Wikipedia description of it, and then it took on a whole new significance - it is just boggling. What an amazing piece of art. Simple and yet incredibly complex at the same time. My wife and I left feeling completely impressed. We had booked our tickets ahead, and arrived shortly after opening time - the queue was not too long, and we got in quickly. At that time of the day the crowd around Guernica wasn't overwhelming put when we were leaving we noticed that it had dramatically increased. So come for Guernica but stay for all the other amazing art, posters, and drawings (and more)

Horrible-cancelled tour

Horrible. My tour was canceled hours before it was scheduled to start. I’ve messaged several times requesting a refund but have gotten no response.

Improper meeting information

We arrived to the museum 45 minutes early to check out the meeting point. The map links take visitors to a side of the museum with what looks like a private entrance to the museum AND there is a statue in that entrance area. (Directions say to meet at the tall statue). We showed a security guard the meeting directions and he said to go to the other side of the museum. We did…and we waited there until 1 minute before the start time (not exaggerating) and began to panic because there was no guide, and we were the only couple standing by the statue so we followed the map directions back to the other side of the museum. As a result, we missed the tour. We texted the tour operator while trying to find them and were told we were out of luck and that we could not get into the museum or join a later tour. While we are disappointed to not be refunded at least the museum entrance portion of the tour, we are more disappointed to not get into the museum at. all. We departed Madrid the following day. This is our long way of saying, should you book this tour, do not follow the maps. Meet in what I would call the "square" and stay by the tall statue until after your meeting time. We have no idea what time the tour operator actually showed up, but for us it was after the scheduled tour start time.

Our guide was knowledgeable and very friendly. We enjoyed learning about the history of Spain as well as the magnificent art. A must for Picasso and Goya enthusiasts

Great Art, Great Tour

This was a great experience! Helena gave us a great introduction to the museum structure as well as to the evolution of modern art. We recommend this tour!

Museum in Madrid

Helena was our tour guide and she provided us with a myriad of information on the change in artistry from the 1900s to the 1930's and explained how the works of Dali, Picasso created a new perspective on viewing of painters of that era. She also was our guide through the Prado and felt it was one of the best I have experienced as to a knowledgeable individual in the arts.

A guided gift for art lovers

Guide was amazingly resourceful and informed! Alex was his name. He added great background and color in explaining who the artists were and the history of the museum.

We enjoyed our tour very much of the Reina Sophia, art museum. The art hanging there is spectacular. Our guide was very descriptive about the artist feelings when producing their works.

Guide late arrival at meeting point

The tour was fine but no guide at the meeting point on the indicated time. I had to call the tour office and it took awhile until the guide arrived. It was a bad impression for first time using this tour company service.

Great art experience

It’s my second guided tour with Helena. One of the best guided tour I ever had. We made a tour with her in the prado and two day later at the Reina Sofia museum. She gives excellent background of the history the art was made as well as explanations about the artists. Great experience.

Reina Sofia Museum

Helena is such a wonderful guide and you must visit Reina Sofia Museum when you stay in Madrid. We didn't wait in line too much so I recommend this tour.

Large group great museum

The paintings that were discussed. The guide was knowledgeable. She had a difficult job as the tour group was large and 3 languages were required.

Helena- Excellent guide for Highlights of Reina Sofia tour

Helena was a fantastic guide that was kind and knowledgeable. She highlighted some of the most important works at the Reina Sofia. This tour is quick - 1 hour and 20 min, so its not comprehensive. You can stay longer afterwards though. We entered through the group entrance so we skipped the main line which saved a lot of time.

A well guided tour of a very rich collection.

The guide knew her subject and gave a good overview of the collection. There are many Spanish treasures of artists whose work one rarely sees in other museums, as well as well-known artists, too.

Good museum with a knowledgeable tour guide.

Elena was really knowledgeable with the exhibitions. The only negative thing is that we had the bi-lingual tour so she had to repeat everything in spanish which took most of the time. But it was nice to learn everything from her.

Audio was distracting and frustrating. Group is large and can be narrated in two languages

The museum itself was very nice. The tour might have been better had the audio worked well. The tour guide gave us earphones to listen in while in the museum. This has worked well for me in the past, but not this time. The audio would dip in and out every time he moved his head to look at a painting, which was very distracting. I did not understand anything and I wished I had just left the group early. Other negative points, the group can be large and be in both English and Spanish. This is all mentioned in the ad to be fair, so be prepared to have no time for questions and to listen to a different language half of the time.

Rude museum staff and not kid friendly

If you have kids please save your money and do not go to this museum. They don’t accept strollers inside the museum and kids have to hold hands with the adults at all times. I was asked to leave the stroller in the locker room although I saw two strollers inside. Maybe the treatment is different for foreigners and spanish citizens. The security personnel Was rude and not friendly at all. When we were in the Guernica section the museum staff kept screaming at us because we had a kid. My son was well behaved and was standing behind the line and next to me. The Prado museum is much more kid friendly.

Be sure your tour is in 1 language only

Steffi was an excellent guide with a masters degree in art history and on museums or some such. She was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Problem was that the tour was in English AND Spanish so she would talk about a painting in English then the same one in Spanish. Having a tour in one language would mean getting twice as much coverage of the works. I had asked if it was in English and told yes but it wasn't clear it was in both.

Great experience!

We booked this tour to see Guernica, and we definitely enjoyed see it, but also enjoyed hearing the story behind it. Also, very much enjoyed seeing Dali's works and hearing about his history as well.

Huge group, very unorganized.

The tour was very unorganized. We waited for 45 minutes while our guides sorted out the entrance for the group. It was a huge group that the 2 guides decided to split into English and Spanish. Our English tour was given in both languages though so we ended up spending half the time waiting for the next painting.

AMIGO TOURS SUCKS!

The visit started almost 30 minutes late! The "guide" was giving instructions to the larger than expected group in both Spanish and English, although I booked an English-only tour. After all that, the "guide" simply said "OK, take the elevator to the 2nd floor, turn right and follow the signs." THERE WAS NO GUIDED TOUR! THIS VENDOR COMPLETELY MISREPRESENTS THEMSELVES, PRODUCT AND SERVICES! But, if you use them and the same thing happens, complain thru Viator and they'll give you a FULL REFUND, so in a sense, you get to see the museum for free. (I only asked for a partial refund, not including the museum ticket price)

Would rather have gone on our own

Our tour guide was barely conversational in English. He seemed unfamiliar with the museum layout. His descriptions of the paintings were rudimentary, repetitive and at more than one point was reduced to asking my children to “name the artist” in various rooms of the museum.

NO SHOW GUIDE!

The Amigo guide never showed up and left 4 older ladies waiting 45 minutes. I called Amigo 3 times and rep assured me the guide was coming. NO SHOW! Very disappointing. I would like a refund.

Too many people and too...

Too many people and too much time spent meeting/waiting for late-comers/going to another entrance of museum (rather than meeting there in the first place)/security with so many people to wait for/getting listening equipment headphones etc to everyone….went with x4 people and guide to prado which worked much better

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR IF YOU WANT AN ENGLISH GUIDE. THEY LEGIT SAY ONE SENTENCE IN ENGLISH AND ONE PARAGRAPH IN SPANISH

do not book this tour if you want an english guide. they legit say one sentence in english and one paragraph in spanish. this is a dual-language tour which it never mentioned in the description. they do not care about the English speakers and literally had people leave the group because she rushed it and barley spoke english. do not recommend

Just okay

The tour guide was nice and knowledgeable. I was disappointed to sign up for an English tour but come to find out it was bilingual and we were the only English speakers. Also, took 30 minutes for the actual tour to start which was disappointing. Would recommend other tour option.

Not a good experience

The tour guide was not well trained to do his job. There were English and Spanish speaking people on the tour. Some of the Spanish speaking people objected when he started the English explanation. So he was going to just do the tour in Spanish and skip the English portion. I had to insist that he do the English portion in addition to the Spanish. The guide seemed to be surprised that he had to do both languages. There were probably about half English speaking people and half Spanish speaking people, so they were going to just ignore the other half even though we paid our money just like everyone else.

Dali, Picasso & Miro with the kids!!!

Excellent guide! Very knowledgeable and she made it so interesting. I went with 2 teenagers and a twenty something year old. They loved it and she captured their attention! Thank you

We requested an English...

We requested an English tour and it was mixed. Difficult to follow and definitely favored the Spanish speaking crowd.

Poorly organized but great guide!

Came to the meeting point on time and waited for guide to organize tour, get tickets and headsets etc. Scheduled for 12:45 start but didn’t actually start to 1:30. Also was supposed to go to 2pm but at 3 we had to leave for another tour. The most annoying part was it was bilingual and the guide had to describe every stop and every work twice. We assumed they could gather enough participants to make an English tour?! On the positive the young lady tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and articulate and did provide interesting insights.

Missed the tour

We missed the tour because traffic was horrible and we were too late. We were not allowed to catch the tour in progress. It was a tour for six. We were 15 minutes late.

Not great

I couldn't hear anything the guide was trying to say. I went off on my own as I couldn't see staying with my group when nothing was gained from the guide's instruction.

I ordered an English tour but got multi language

I ordered an English tour (it also says so on my ticket). But when I got to the tour the guide started explaining in both spanish and English. She said they are combining them sometimes. This was a terrible experience and we left mid tour, because it was both boring and we only got half the tour content.

Spanish guides simply do not speak English

Painfully disappointing: the guide barely spoke english although tour booked in english. To our surprise she spoke spanish, very detailed explanation and 1-2 sentences in english. The mic picked all the surrounding noise coupled with the very, very strong spanish accent of the guide, so less than 50% understandable. 5-6 attraction points, rushed like sprint. Overall tour took 50 min although we paid for 1.5h. All no-spanish speakers dropped off mid tour because of poor sound, poor english vocabulary of the guide. I speak both languages, so I benefitted from the Spanish explanations but my family relied on me as English…simply not available. I would NOT recommend this formula. Better go for a private tour!

Reina Sofia tour

Interesting tour. It was short so it only hit on a few highlights but the explanations were not just about the paintings themselves but also about the art movements happening at the times and placing them in historical/social context. Our guide, Jose (or Juan. I apologize for not remembering), was knowledgeable and personable. I would recommend this tour.

Average

Good: Each tour participant was given an earpiece connected to a transmitter used by the tour guide. This allowed all participants to easily hear the tour guide and keep down noise in the museum. The tour guide was very knowledgable about the artwork seen on the tour. Needs Improvement: Making contact with the tour guide was a problem at the start of the tour. The tour guide was not holding a sign or attired in a way for easy identification as the tour operator. We arrived early to the meeting location but could not find the operator. We called the tour company and they said the tour guide was there with a group and the guide was holding a sign. We eventually made contact with the tour guide. The tour was delivered in English and Spanish which made everything take longer. We were expecting the tour to be only in English. The tour guide kept the entire group together which made the tour tiring and boring as we only saw about 4 pieces of art on the tour due to the bilingual tour delivery. The explanation of the Picaso took too long for our personal taste. We would rather had seen more of the museum rather than the in-depth explanation of everything in the Picasco work. The Picasco segment seemed to take about 30 minutes of the 1.5 hour tour.

Better with a guide

Amanda was a really great tour guide. Her explanations of the art work was great and she was very knowledgeable. She took time to answer all of our questions. It was so much better to have a guide then go alone.

Guided Tour: Excellent decission!

Taking the decission to book a guided tour to the Reina Sofia Museum was a very good decission, We had an excellent guide that took us through the key exhibits and explained the backround of works and artists. no way we could have learned about those things on our own! Particularlly interesting was the Gernika description. I'm not giving an excellent score because of, 10 minutes delay by the guide (we were starting to get nervous as no one gave us any warning...) and also the proces to get the equiment for the visit was not very efficient. Othervise, great experience.

Another fabulous museum! Our tour guide was lovely and she liked to discuss with our group different theories. It was quite something to see “La Guernica” in person!

Tour of the Reina Sofia Museum.

This is the second best museum to visit for your bucket list after you have seen the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul Turkey. You should definitely see the War Mural by Picasso on the second floor. Be prepared for security check entrance. There is a discount for seniors.

Great tour. Touched all the important works in the museum. Smaller group and the guide was very well informed about the art work she guided us too. Was with Amigo tours. Unfortunately cant remember the guides name but the tour was at 12:45 on September 26. Thank you for a memorable experience.

Complete Scam

No one showed up and after multiple calls they said they were inside and they would not issue a refund or provide tickets to the museum. We were early and waited 20 minutes before we bought another set of tickets. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Tour of Spain

Modern Art museum with so many works of Art including Dali and Picasso. Very interesting to see the mentioned famous works. Many others just a quick look and moved on.

One of the best values for the opportunity to see Guernica!! Amazing contemporary art and was not as crowded as Prado.
