Prado Museum Tour & Lunch at the Oldest Restaurant in the World

Really worthwhile tour

This was definitely one of the best tours we have ever embarked on. Our guide, Arantxa, was absolutely brilliant. She has a great personality and made the tour so much more fun and enjoyable. She took us to the most important pieces in the museum and gave us loads of information. The subsequent walk to the nearby neighborhood for a vermut and pork scratchings was nice before heading to the world's oldest restaurant, Botin, for lunch. I have always been a bit apprehensive about this type of food tour, but I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty and delicious food on offer, especially the burnt Basque cheesecake, which was amazing! All in all, we had an absolutely fantastic tour. Many thanks to our amazing guide, @chefarantxalamas.

it was pouring in Madrid...

it was pouring in Madrid the day we had our tour. Unfortunately, we had a horrible time getting a taxi and we were late to meet our tour and they went into the Prado without us. I understand that completely but what I was frustrated about was that there was no way for us to contact the tour guide - we were perfectly willing to purchase entrance tickets to the Prado and find our tour but when I called the only number I had, I was basically told i was out of luck and there was no way to contact our guide once the tour started. I know we were the ones that were late, but it was a bit disappointing that they could not get us in contact with the guide. Other guides have texted me on What's App with no issue.

Nowhere else can you do this.

Fingers only to eat the piggy. A new way to gourmet. History abounds at Botin. See it on the walls and in the eyes of the staff.

Great tour and guide

Arantxa Was an outstanding tour guide. Very informative at Prada with lots of history on the paintings. She kept everyone engaged with lots of information about everything . Great tour and loved the restaurant. Getting in early to tour the restaurant before everyone else arrived was a great experience. Would highly recommend.

Would highly recommend for others .

Rosita , our guard was very knowledgeable and provided her expertise of art history throughout the tour. She answered everyone's questions . Had a lot of energy. The group size was perfect with only 12 people who all got along very well. We also enjoyed being able to see the entire Botin restaurant given its ling history.

A must tour when in Madrid!

Rosita was lovely! She provided an interesting and informative tour of the Prado museum - focusing on selective works with an art educated back drop. Although not a native of Spain (by way of Italy), her pride and knowledge of the city/country and its culture were very evident. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Restaurant Botin. The food, conversation and company made the experience warm and welcoming. Kudos to Devour and a great big shout out to Rosita!

A great experience!

We had an amazing time! Rosita, our tour guide, was lovely and made the experience at El Prado even better with all her knowledge, we learned a lot. Plus, the restaurant was unreal and the food was outstanding. We definitely recommend it! Gracias, Rosita!!

Do not hesitate to book

Amazing experience. Alfonso went above and beyond for the tour. It was a very enriching experience. Alfonso’s enthusiasm for the art at the Prado made each piece more beautiful. Lunch at Botín was also very special and delicious. You also get so much food. Completely worth the price tag.

Perfect museum and food tour

This was my first time doing a guided art tour and I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way! Montse was incredibly knowledgeable and helped curate the museum highlights. I loved that the tour also combined lunch at Botin so I could do two of my top Madrid destinations in one!

Best tour guide ever!

Andrea was knowledgeable and personal. She made all the participants feel comfortable. Her knowledge was well beyond art history and food. At the end of the tour she provided the group additional resources in Madrid.

Excellent Visit to Prado Museum and so much more!

Our visit to the Prado Museum was spectacular -- our guide, Cassie, was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the art on display there. The walk afterwards with stops at a taverna and Botin Restaurant were also delightful. Highly recommend!

¡We love Arantxa!

What a wonderful experience with our tour guide, Arantxa! It helped that she got to know each of us in the group and that she encouraged us to get to know each other. That made the eating/drinking part of this so much fun! Like going out with friends! Arantxa is a Cordon Bleu trained chef born and raised in Madrid and really knows her stuff! The geography, history, culture and food of Spain all brought into relationship with each other. The Prado visit is a quick sampler but if you’re in Madrid for a short time you’ll see the Velazquez, El Greco, and Goya highlights—and even one Picasso on this tour! The food really is the star of this show. Vermut at Casa Alberto is a wonderful way to start that fun! Followed by Botín—which is really amazing. Don’t worry—the suckling pig does not come to you with the head on. Everything about that meal was exquisite, including the cheesecake! We would do another tour with Arantxa in a heartbeat—and did! The very next day! This was great fun and quality and definitely worth the price. ¡disfruta la experiencia!

Delicious Prado & Botín Experience

We just finished our tour with Rosita. She was wonderful- friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We had a great time! Would highly recommend Rosita for any tour.

Andrea’s tour was exceptional

Andrea gave us a wonderful history and cultural lesson using the art of the Prado. She has a wonderful teaching method and an amazing depth of knowledge. The Botin restaurant included a tour of the building. Lovely meal and the Basque cheese cakes was to die for.

Best Combo Prado and Lunch Tour!

We absolutely loved our guide, Andrea! She was so knowledgeable with both the art in the Prado as well as the history of Botin. We really felt she took great care of us and we loved how she weaved the stories of the paintings she showed us in the Prado. The lunch at Botin was so yummy - especially the suckling pig and the Basque cheesecake dessert. We loved being able to go before Botin opened and able to see the oven and cellar. We would very highly recommend this tour and having Andrea as your guide!

Best way to see Madrid

Andrea was amazing! So knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly. She kept the group right on time without making us feel rushed - she’s a true gem. We started in the Prado museum where Andrea shared a bit of history and the important art pieces that really stitched together food, art, and history in a way that set the stage for the rest of the day. We then walked over to a cafe to grab some tapas and Vermouth before settling down in the oldest restaurant in the world, Botin for delicious suckling pig and drinks. We’ve taken plenty of tours around the world and we agree Andrea and this tour was the best!

Filling the mind and the heart with the spirit of Madrid!

What a wonderful day with Andrea G.! Andrea's passion about art, culture, and food of Spain really brought out the story of Madrid, allowing us to dive into the art at the Prado Museum and the food of the surrounding neighborhoods in a way that brought everything all together. Fun, paced just right, and so knowledgable. We've been all around the world and this tour, by far, was our favorite!

Amazing Experience! Must book!

Sean was amazing! We were able to get into the museum before the crowds without waiting in any lines. The Prado had so much to see and Sean did not disappoint. He explained all the different eras and in language we could understand. We would have been lost if we went alone. We also got into the Restaurant before everyone else and got a little tour of the wine cellar and kitchen. Food was great and the cheesecake was delicious! Must book!

Sean of devour tours was just fantastic! He was able to get us into the museum even before it officially opened so we had the first of our tour to ourselves in the gallery! He was so knowledgeable and with such attention to detail at each artist he highlighted. Lunch was so much fun at the Bolen!

Prado and Botin

This expereince was so much better than we imagined. Our tour guide Arantxa took us through the highlights of the museum and was extermely knowledgable about the istory of the paintings and artists! After the msum, she took us to a great bar for Vermuth and then to Botin! We had a wonerful time and even made a new friend!! Thank you Arantxa for being so great!

Wonderful experience

Our guide,Cassie, was incredibly knowledgeable and made everyone in our small group feel welcome and comfortable! I don’t think we would have enjoyed the Prado Museum nearly as much and felt like VIP’s at Botín! Highly recommend!

A fabulous tour with Rosita

A fabulous tour with Rosita!!! She was so knowledgeable and welcoming. She had many interesting stories and facts to share both in the Prado museum and around Madrid. My only wish is we did this tour sooner in our trip!! Would absolutely take this tour again.

Wonderful experience!

Our guide Andrea was extraordinary. She made the visit to the Prado and Botin wonderful experiences. She was so knowledgeable, interesting and fun. Lunch at Botin was excellent, made even more so by the tour of the cellar and the “eternal flame”. I would highly recommend this tour!

One of a kind dining experience. The Sobrino de Botin was a fantastic once in a lifetime culinary experience that you have to experience if you are in Madrid. It is a must.

We had a wonderful experience with Andrea. She showed us the highlights of the Prado and shared so much interesting information about various pieces of art, the artists and historical figures. That was followed by an enjoyable lunch at the Botin Restaurant that included an insiders tour before the doors opened to other customers. I highly recommend this tour!

One of the best tour ever, anywhere. Having Andrea who is an artist, chef and resident of Madrid as a guide was invaluable. I was expecting just a tasting at Botin but it was a full 3 course sit down meal. I want to go back, but it is a 3 month wait. Prado highlights was perfect -learning about royal history through the great art masters.

Art, history, short jaunt and amazing lunch.

We had a blast! I highly recommend this tour. A Must-Do for Both Art and Food Lovers!

We initially booked this tour because we wanted to get a reservation at Botín (which was fully booked for our entire stay). We were so glad we did! Our guide ANDREA was absolutely amazing! Her knowledge and passion about the art was clear and she made connections to Spain’s history and food as we viewed each piece. In a museum so large and overwhelming we were able to hit many of the important pieces in just 90 minutes and we learned so much. Since we were a small group we had time to ask questions and had interesting conversations with Andrea on our walk through the literary neighborhood and at lunch. She also pointed out other great spots to come back and try on our own. The lunch did not disappoint! Everything was well done and the portions were huge. The suckling pig was so moist and tender with the crispiest skin. It was hard to make room for the cheesecake but it was worth it! If you are on the fence about booking, don’t hesitate - it was definitely good value for the price - and Andrea made us feel like VIPs everywhere we went.

Amazing!

It was an amazing experience! Our guide Arantxa was not only knowledgeable but very approachable and funny. You are guided and you get insights to the history behind each place but also you feel taken care off. Prado amazing as it is but skipping the queues gives you additional satisfaction 😊. Having lunch at Butin was great with Arantxa talking you through wines and dishes served. Highly recommended!

Fun Prado and Botin family tour with Arantxa

We had a great tour with Arantxa at the Prado and Botin. She provided a lot of great background and context about the works at the Prado and made sure we got to see the works that were important to the group. The stop for a drink and the lunch were also fabulous. Our family really enjoyed our tour with Arantxa and we felt like we learned more that would could have with another tour guide.

Informative and Engaging

Our tour guide Arantxa was amazingly knowledgeable and kept us all moving to keep everything on time while also being able to enjoy the experience. I learned a lot and was happy I booked this tour. Would recommend!

Fun and informative!

Highlight of a trip

This tour was one of the highlights of the trip - We had a great guide named Arantxa who explained the highlights of the museum's art & history & then joined her & had one of the best luncheons at Madrid's oldest restaurant. It is a must & I recommend our guide & this tour

Best tour in Madrid

My husband and I booked this tour last minute before leaving Barcelona and it was one of the best tours we have ever been on. Our tour guide was absolutely amazing, thank you Arantxa! The Prado Museum was more interesting than I thought it would be, however our tour guide was very educated on the history and the paintings which made it so fascinating. The tour and lunch at Botin was an experience of a lifetime. We tried to make reservations at Botin prior to booking the tour and if we had just made reservations we would have missed out on the rich history of Botin family restaurant. The food was delicious!! If we ever go back to Madrid we will be looking to have this experience again:) Highly recommend. Thank you again Arantxa!

Do it for the art!

The Praça Tour was fantastic, even for an art novice like myself. Our guide was funny and entertaining while respectful of the museum environment. Lunch at Botin was solid for most of us. They note they can accommodate vegetarians for them it ended up being a pretty sad plate of roast vegetables to eat and that’s it.

Missed the museum

We were able to join the group for lunch at Botin which was worth it! Missed the museum, Uber driver didn’t know where to drop is off and when we found the museum we had to walk around 3/4 of the building before we found the meeting spot and it was too late. The group was gone. 2 things that would have been useful for us in the directions sent via email….note the meeting time to be 9:30. Just the start time was listed. Also note the Goya stature which is mentioned on the website but not the directions listed in the email sent. First time in Madrid and knew nothing about the museum and their operations. 100’s perhaps 1000s of people lined up already.

An incredible family-friendly tour!

We had an incredible time with Arantxa on our tour! We have two kids, ages 9 and 12, and they enjoyed the experience just as much as my husband and I. While none of us are art history buffs or fanatics, we really felt like we all learned a lot over the course of the time at the Prado, and Arantxa did such a great job telling the stories and helping us see the history throughout each piece we saw. Our lunch at Botin was amazing and a game-changer. We got to go in early to see the entire restaurant before it opened, and there's no way we would have gotten to see any of that had we just tried to book on our own. The meal also was plenty and included the best cheesecake I've ever had. Thanks for an amazing experience!

Great tour with great food!

Great tour of the Prado Museum, literary district, and Botin restaurant! Arantxa was a wonderful guide. Her passion for the history, art, and food of Madrid made for an amazing experience. The small group size--there were 3 other couples besides us--made it feel like we were hanging out with friends. Friends we had just met. :) We enjoyed the Prado so much that we returned the next day to review the wonderful paintings she had shown us and catch a glimpse of a few more! We enjoyed a taste of vermouth at Casa Alberto. Lunch at the world's oldest restaurant, Botin, was made even more special by Arantxa's explanations and anecdotes. Wonderful!

Amazing guide, incredible experience!

What a wonderful experience with our guide Rosita! A combination of history, art and food - the trifecta! While it doesn’t seem like enough time in the Prado musiquemos, you get the highlights and leave still feeling energized. I hadn’t noticed we also do a stop at a beautiful bar for tapas and house made vermouth before Botín. The opportunity to get a quick tour behind the scenes at Botín was incredible! Do not eat breakfast or you might not have enough room for the world’s best cheesecake! Rosita had the knowledge and passion for Madrid and its art, history and food. We would highly recommend her and this tour!

Rosita is amazing! She is knowledgeable and friendly. The tour is extremely informative and I wish we’d taken it earlier in our trip. Rosita did an excellent job linking the different aspects of the tour together. We will definitely use Devour in the future.

Great tour & great lunch

Arantxa is a great guide. Very knowledgeable and very entertaining! We got the best of the Prado with significant background on everything we saw. I know Botin is considered a tourist trap, but it’s worth seeing just for the history of the world’s (allegedly) oldest restaurant. And our meal was very good. Plus Arantxa taught us as much about Spanish dining customs as she had about Velazquez and Goya. Time and money well spent.
