A great food tour to try!

My family’s first food tour, and it was lots of fun. It was great trying different things you would not know to order. A great way to sample foods in Madrid.

If you are a foodie and want a taste of the local food scene in Madrid, then this tour is for you! James took us to restaurants and bars that I wouldn’t have picked as a first-timer in Madrid, and he had us try dishes that I wouldn’t have otherwise! He also taught us the local etiquette at restaurants and showed us some of the key sights around the neighborhood. I also appreciated James’ respect and admiration for the local culture. Highly recommend!

Our family of four with our two sons really enjoyed the experiences. James took us to excellent spots with great atmosphere and delicious food. Highly recommend.

Legendary. Even our Teenage boys loved it!

Without a doubt, the highlight of our Madrid experience. The Tapas tour is an ecclectic mix of a foodie bar crawl with a scavenger hunt interspersed with the snarky insight of a Scotsman. James is a vertible gem with a wealth of local knowledge and connections. He continued to provide information and assistance for the duration of our stay rather than for the duration of the experience. We were too busy eating, drinking, and enjoying to remember to take pictures. Our teenage boys (18,18,14) had such a great time that they never took out their cell phones. I would encourage everyone to always answer Yes if James asks you to try something. We will definitely do this again anytime we are in Madrid. I would give him an 11 if the scale would allow me.

More fun than looking at paintings by dead people

I’ll make this simple, if you are in Madrid take the tapas and wine walking tour with James. You won’t regret it unless you don’t like to drink or eat, or have a good time. James is a character and keeps the party going. We also lucked out with a great group that were a pleasure to be with for a few hours. You’ll have more fun with James than going to the Prada and seeing a bunch of paintings by dead people.

Best Tour you can find

This was the best part of our trip to Madrid. James was knowledgeable, funny and fantastic to spend time with. He brought us to four great restaurants, and all his recommendations on food and drinks were perfect. Thank you James!!!

AMAZING TOUR!

If I could give this tour and James 6 stars, I would. By far the highlight of our trip to Madrid! James had us eat the best food in the city and gave us a great walking historical tour. This is a must do!!!!

Delicious food and a great guide

James was awesome! We not only had our fair share of tapas, but received so much information about Madrid as we walked from spot to spot. James was super personable and had us trying dishes we would've never thought to order on our own. I HIGHLY recommend this tour, it was the highlight of our trip!

An absolute must

A must tour that I highly recommend. It’s not an all inclusive style tour but a build your own tour which made this million times better. James’ knowledge is unmatched and guides you through some amazing spots. He’ll get you to try different tapas which you typically won’t which was a great addition. You get your monnies worth and some.

Delicious food and even better company

James is the best! He offers a truly immersive cultural experience. His food selection and stories were really incredible!

Atmosphere created by host as fun open welcoming. Good drinks and wines and really good food with a bit of a walk about and history thrown in as well.

Fun, Full, and Drnks with an amazing guide!

James said to us when we first meet, I hope you are hungry as when you go back to your hotel you will be pleasantly full! Let me tell you, that was an understatement! What an amazing time, and I felt like we had made new friends. James started us at a local bar/pub and taught us about so many local customs and things to know that tourists would never know.  We started drinking with local cider and several snacks. My favorite at stop one was the great bar atmosphere, and James explanation of local customs. Plus, the blue cheese spread was one thing to try! We then walked for a few blocks and got the lay of the land with lots of info on our way of history and facts of the area. It's just a fun walk with lots of laughs. And really a great group of all aged people that joined in our fun late night tour. We started at 7:30 and walked away from each other around midnight and could have spent many more hours together. We walked over to the second location where we went with lots of meat options, which were just perfect! Grilled artichokes was one, and the second was the salty pork belly! Oh my, how good! We sat and enjoyed several bottles of wine and then continued on to the 3rd location where they specialized in seafood. I was completely daring and tried the exotic seafood. Delicious octopus and anchovies prepared with vinegar, oil, and spices. It's almost like a ceviche. What I liked the most was the mushroom and aioli on delicious bread. What was so amazing about this tour was the ability to choose items to try with our guide and get suggestions. The vegetarian in the group enjoyed the veggies,  the carnivors always had plenty to eat, and the fish lovers had plenty as well.  James was so much fun and very much our new local friend in Madrid now that we drank and broke bread together. He just makes you feel so much at home.  In all the years that I have gone on food tours, this has to be my favorite! And let me tell you, we slept well that night as we were beyond full!

Delicious night out and about in Madrid

James led us to many wonderful bars for wine, cider, the most delicious appetizers and more! He shared a bit of history and funny stories as we roamed through multiple plazas in Madrid. We made friends with our tour mates and had a fabulous evening! I highly recommend taking his tours!

Tapas guide

The guide was cheerful and took care of us. The food was good but pretty much what you would find at most other tapas places.

I don’t know what’s better - the food or the guide! 10/10 for anybody wanting to explore Madrid in authentic way.

This is an evening of the real Madrid tapas experience. The guide is an expert and engaging, and makes sure you have a memorable time. Not to be missed.

James is a fantastic host who leads and explains how the Madrid tapas scene works. He is humorous and engaging. We ate, drank, laughed and just had a great night out. I highly recommend this tour as it goes to authentic tapas bars and not just the usual, easy tourist traps

Best night out in Madrid!!

James curated the perfect evening of gastronomic delights! He was very knowledgeable and a wonderful host who customized our food and beverage choices to our preferences while ensuring we tried new things and provided expert advice for ordering. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour and our only regret is having not done it earlier in our week in Madrid! Go!! It is worth every penny!!

Amazing tapas tour!

This was an incredible experience! James is very knowledgeable about Madrid, its culture, where to find the best food…and horse statues… He is extremely charismatic and will ensure you have a great time! Food and drink pairing recommendations were also excellent.

Delicious food in Madrid

The food was delicious; James was a great guide. It was a great way to see a part of Madrid. Even if you don't drink alcohol, it was fun; there were tasty options. I recommend the local grape juice.

New amigos in a new city

Great food, wines, stories, tips, company. An evening with everything. James does this so well! Great communicator re food preferences and sorting the money. I've already shared this with others I meet.

This opportunity bobbed up on screen and I booked in on first evening in new country, new language, new culture. It was an AMAZING experience; felt like I was with friends. James had lots of useful and entertaining anecdotes, the bars were great, food and drinks muy deliciosos! James did all the ordering and run "the bank" openly and fairly. I have already recommended this tour to others. Do it! You won't regret it!

A huge ‘Must DO!’

A great night with Charlie & the USA crew. Being the only Aussie I was made to feel very welcomed. It was a ‘real’ experience of what Spain is all about. The food, the drinks & the night life was fantastic! This is one of the highlights of my trip! Thank you! Great intro to Madrid and Tapas.

James was a great host. He immediately made you feel comfortable and as we walked around he told us wonderful stories of Madrid as well as some very handy hints as travellers as to what to expect as we travel in Spain and in particular Madrid. The bars that he took us to were amazing. They were a hive of activity which is great for people watching. The tapas were delicious and the drink choices that James suggested were great. However I loved the fact that you could choose any drink you wanted so if you preferred beer rather than wine it was not a problem. It was a great group of people we met. Very personal as it was only a group of 5. We had an absolute blast. Thankyou James. Highly recommend this tour to anyone who visits Madrid.

Fun and easy way to see Madrid

Highly recommend! James is a wonderful host and made the night very fun. Such a great way to see Madrid and try it’s delicious food and drinks.

Feel like the madrileños

James has made this tour fun and enjoyable. From remembering throughout the tour, everyone’s name at the first introduction, to the final seafood tapas we enjoyed closer to midnight. His tour was timed perfectly as we took it the first night we arrived in Madrid. This allowed us how to best explore the city. He gave us sufficient information about food, cultural behaviour, historical events, and shopping districts. This tour is highly recommended as it will help you fully enjoy your visit in Madrid and act like the madrileños. Gracias James!

Best tour in Madrid

We did the tour for the second time and as the first time it was brilliant! Food and drinks were absolutely great. We had a wonderful time. Food tolerances are taking care of, you feel safe during the whole tour.

Highlight of my visit to Madrid.

James was an excellent guide. I learnt so much about Spanish culture and tapas and enjoyed a wonderful evening experiencing foods and drinks I never would have tried on my own in Madrid. Definitely the highlight of my visit to Madrid.

Mind and appetite opened!

James’ tour is the best way to start your experience of eating in Spain!! He also gives an insightful history tour, challenging you to look up. The tapas and wines he has you try are delicious and challenging in a good way, things I would have never eaten. Would do it all over again! Would give him ten stars if I could-it was way more than I expected!

Full Belly

James was excellent, the places he took us too were real Madrid local places with excellent food and drink… the type that you’d walk passed as they were full of locals and intimidating because you don’t speak good (or, like me, not a word of) Spanish. It was a window on the social life of the Madrileños and James made the whole experience enlightening and entertaining!

When in Madrid....take a tour with James

Last night my husband and I had our tour with Sr. James, it was a great evening eating good local food and drinks along with a lot of laughter and smiling. You will not be disappointed, we would book again if we were here longer!

An excellent tour

James was a delight as a host and tour guide. His food and drink recommendations were spot on. Even though James claimed not to know much about history, his knowledge of Madrid is extensive which adds a lot to the experience as you are walking from place to place. I recommend doing this tour one of the first days you are in Madrid as it will help guide the rest of your time.

Must do on a trip to Madrid!

The tour was so much fun and informative. We felt like we understood the food culture of the city so much better and had a great time. The food was delicious. James was fun and encouraged us to try new things! Would recommend to anyone visiting Madrid.

One of the best Tapas Tours

Enjoyed the Tapas Walking Tour adventure with Charles (AKA Magic Mike, ask him for the story after the third tapas stop). We all learned a lot about Madrid, Spanish history, origin of tapas, past Spanish royalty, etc. Would highly recommend, lots of fun for all ages.

A bit disappointing

Easter weekend. Disappointing it was not with James and only found out A couple of hours before the tour. We were able to get to only 3 of the bars the streets were very busy. Was not the same depth of history content I had experienced a few years ago on the same tour.

I love Madrid

James exceeded all expectations by a considerable margin. We went into this tour feeling clumsy and confused, fresh into Madrid with only Google to lead the way... And then we arrived at the assigned venue. James was not only knowledgeable, but courteous and affable as well. We spent the next three hours absorbing local cuisine, lore and a sense of general bliss as we happily crawled from Tapas Bar to Tapas Bar. James had mapped his route well, as each experience led to deeper understanding and appreciation of the local custom, culture and (yes) liquor. This is a must for travelers who are interested in local food, exploration and also a fun and hands-on introduction into Spanish culture

We tried some very interesting foods we had never had before our guide. James really knew the area and the history and introduced us to several new places. He also had suggestions for places to stop in the future and a lot of historical knowledge fantastic book it early in the trip because you will use some of his suggestions while you’re here.

James is a great guide and was a pleasure meeting. The locations were awesome and he knew how to pace the night. Every bite was fantastic and drink recommendations were perfect. It was a good mixture of food/drinks/talking.

Nice tour. Very relaxed guide, good food and interesting facts about Madrid, culture, the food or the restaurants. Group size is max 10.

Great food, great time!

The tour was exactly as described. We went tapas hopping and took a night walk around town. Our guide, James, was superb! He had great suggestions and loads of local knowledge to offer. I would recommend planning this tour early on in your trip so that you can have a good time.

Tapas March 2024

James did a great job introducing Madrid’s tapas culture to us in his tour. Lots a great inside knowledge on where to go and ones to stay way from.

I was still hungry…

But no one else was! Highly recommend. Charlie was very knowledgeable and his food recos were a wonderful tapestry of madrid tapas culture.

Perfect insider’s view of Madrid

Charlie was a wonderful host to his adopted city and made it so easy to navigate the best tapas of central Madrid. We learned and ate a lot!

Excellent tour!

We had a great tour with James! He expertly led us through several tapas taverns. He polled the group and ordered a variety of food and drinks that met everyone’s preferences. I tried things I never would have otherwise ordered. Such a great experience! Highly recommend this tour!

Great food & experience with James!

The tapas tour with James was amazing! It was a great combination of good food and cultural information about Madrid and Spanish culinary traditions. We tried a total of 4 places each with typical dishes from a region of Spain. We were a private group of 7 people and we really enjoyed every minute with James. Totally recommended to everyone who wants to experience Madrid in a different way!
