Guided Visit to the Prado Museum

Great Intro to Madrid + Royal Palace

We were a part of a party of 8 and Sergio did a fantastic job. What's great about this tour is that the first 45 minutes are used to get you acclimated to Madrid and its history (instead of "just" touring the museum). The palace itself is much-more impressive than we would have thought - beginning with the fact that it's larger than Versailles. The porcelain room (every square inch from floor to ceiling) is quite unique. This is a great walking tour, especially soon after arriving into Madrid.

Unnecessarily poor guide.

Though our guide Ruben had a lot of knowledge to impart, we found it almost impossible to understand his English. And I'm very, very good with languages and Europeans' efforts to speak English. All the others on our tour felt the same way. Additionally, we found Ruben to be somewhat condescending to us...his attitude was a turnoff, unecessarily putting us individually on the spot in a brusque manner from time-to-time. It's too bad because he actually made some very interesting obsevations...the few times we could follow him. He turned the tour into an unpleasant ecperience; that's the first time I've said that about a Viator-recommended guide.

Awesome Experience!

We had Ruban and he was so knowledgeable and funny! We likely would not have enjoyed the museum without his insights, truly a great time!

Hurry up and wait, wait, wait….

We arrived as directed -15 minutes early. Waited a half an hour for the guide who was late. He had to go to a line to get the tickets-another 20 minutes. Then a line to get into the Prado -another 15 minutes. So 59 minutes wasted before entering the museum. Guide was knowledgeable. Tour ended in less than an hour and a half. Very frustrating morning!

Outstanding tour

We took a tour of the Prado Museum on a Saturday May 11th. Our tour guide was Davis, a Cuban with a masters in Art History. Over 90 minutes, Davis took us on a tour of the highlights of the extensive collection found in the museum. Davis spoke with virtually no accent, was articulate, engaging, and delivered his talk at a cadence that was easy to understand. His grasp of the English language was impressive given that English is his second language. We all used headsets which made it easy to hear him in the crowded museum. The talk was interesting and informative, and Davis skillfully segued from piece to piece as we moved through the museum. We came away with a much better appreciation and understanding of the various highlights in the collection. I would highly recommend seeing this museum and going on this tour.

Prado highlights

The Prado tour was excellent- one of the best tours I’ve ever done! Davis was one of the best guides I have ever had. Additionally, the tour was just the right amount of time. Davis gave just the right amount of information too. He hit all the highlights and had an iPad that further demonstrated things about the paintings. I am not an art lover per se, but his tour made me appreciate the artwork and I learned things that I would’ve never known had I entered the Prado on my own. Well done!!

Horrible and unreliable. No show

Showed up for my tour one hour early. The guide never showed up at 1 as arranged completely frustrated. This is ridiculous. Did not get to see the Prado museum, really disappointed, paid in full.

Beautiful afternoon at the Prado!

Great tour for seeing and understanding the highlights

Davis was an excellent tour guide who had in-depth knowledge about the art in the Prado. His art history background was very helpful as a guide. We were able to skip the lines and see many of the most important paintings. We would definitely recommend to others.

Prado tour basics!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about he artists, which helped bring the experience to life. It’s a large museum and can be overwhelming. Guide made it much more enjoyable and worthwhile.

Missed the tour, could not contact the tour guide

We missed this tour as we could not locate our guide. In addition we could not reach the guide at the local number provided. Very disappointed.

Excellent way to get oriented to the Prado.

Excellent tour that gave us a quick overview of the Prado by telling us the stories behind the masterpieces. Highly recommended using the tour as orientation to this beautiful and important museum. Not having to wait in the entrance line is also a bonus!

Exceptional Tour. Do not miss.

Our guide Davis was exceptional. He spoke slowly and clearly so that we could understand everything he said. This group only had 6 people so we were able to ask questions and get a good look at the paintings. He guided us seamlessly through a crowded museum and we were given time at the end of the tour to visit the museum at leisure. The 1.5 hour tour was the perfect length of time. We highly recommend this tour.

Davis was fantastic. We went in early beat the crowds and he was wonderful explaining the art. He had a pad - that he had pictures highlighting points of the art. He was amazing in putting in context the who I royalty and when in time the art was commissioned. All around great

Best in Madrid

The museum is very large so having a guide take us to the most important works was helpful. He was knowledgeable and friendly, able to relate the history of the works and some subtle things we surely would have overlooked.

My husband and I only had a weekend in Madrid but wanted to visit Museo del Prado. Our tour guide Davis made the little time we had, the most efficient , entertaining and educational time we could’ve asked for. Spectacular museum, Excellent Guide

Visited the Prado today…Wonderful museum. Very happy that we joined a tour to help get acclimated. Our guide, Felix, gave us a great overview of the Prado, and stopped at many of the significant masterpieces to provide an in-depth description of both the artistic and historical context of the painting. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to get a richer experience while visiting the Prada.

Prada tour

Davis was great!! Really knowledgeable and fun. Would love to have him on another tour! His descriptions of the various art pieces and the artists wa really thorough.

Polite and had experience

Had lots of art experience but did not engage with people as well, seemed more familiar with tours with many people rather than private tours; his accent was a bit hard to understand. He was really accommodating at finding the kids places to sit.

Prado Museum Tour

From reading the other reviews, everyone agrees that Davis is an excellent tour guide. His knowledge and style is very informative, creative (e.g. use of his iPad) but more importantly, he is able to adjust the content according to the audience (for the art lover versus non-art enthusiast). The tour hit the highlights of the museum and was the right amount of time for our group to get a good understanding of how to navigate the museum and the exhibits on our own. He was very professional but had the right amount of personality to make the tour very enjoyable. I use Viator often and have never been disappointed with the caliber of tour guides. Great tour of areas I would never have ventured. The guide took input and showed me parts of the town I wouldn’t have seen otherwise with supporting history and sentiment.

Appreciating art and art history

Davis is an incredible tour guide. He not only educated us on the painters and explained the artwork at the Prado but also used his iPad to show us up-close details of the paintings. He is so knowledgeable. We came away with a greater appreciation of art and art history of Spain.

Wonderful tour with Deyvis

Our guide, Abner Deyvis met my daughter and I promptly at the meeting place. We were one of the first ones to get in the museum. He showed us Bosch's The Garden Earthly Delights and symbolism. I enjoyed his lively description of the veiled bust of Isabelle II. I was pleasantly surprised with the Mona LIsa and he showed us the difference between the one at the Louvre. I enjoyed seeing the 16 Black Goya paintings which are morbid and different. He moved the tour moving without rushing. Deyvis was professional and knowledgeable and I learned a lot from his tour.

Not just dry facts

The Prado is a big place but our guide Ruben and his associate gave us an interesting 90 minute introduction. Ruben gave us insights to the works we were looking at; he didn’t simply replicate the dry facts. Once the guided tour is finished the rest of the Prado is yours for the day. Well worth the price we paid.

UNMISSABLE FOR ART LOVERS

My husband and I did the small group tour today. It was sensational. Our guide was Olaya and she was superb. Talked us through the gallery’s most notable works with real enthusiasm, pleasure and knowledge. We loved it. Definitely would recommend this tour and guide to anyone who is interested in art.

Great experience with Gibson!

I did a walking tour of Madrid with Gibson on Christmas Eve. It was a private tour as it was just Gibson and I, no one else was signed up. I really appreciated the chance to take the tour by myself on a holiday. The tour lasted over two hours, longer than usual I believe, and Gibson was extremely knowledgeable about all the sites. I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely join Gibson on another tour or recommend him to others.
