Avila and Segovia Full Day Tour from Madrid

Great value and tour.

Oscar was a great tour guide. He had a good sense of humor and vast knowledge of the history of Avila and Segovia.

Enjoyable overview of Spanish history!

Great overview, knowledgeable guide and primarily in English for our smaller group. Unclear about entrance fees when booking this tour and option during the tour was expensive and unexpected. Was a lot of walking and standing for long periods for those with mobility issues. Bus rides were well placed they out the day.

Tour guides are from or really specialized in the subject : it is a rich cultural experience ! The experience is well organized and time is always sufficient to fully enjoy.

Good if you want to cover a lot in one day

Good for a day trip. Cover a lot of spot. Guide is good..Avila was better. A lot of walking from Segovia fort to the bus

Perfect Day Trip

Great trip. Learned so much about both beautiful cities. Raphael was very knowledgeable and organized. Highly recommend this tour .

Excellent crew

Wonderful crew, driver, guides, local guides etc. My only regret was that time did not permit us to eat at Avila. We did not tour any of the buildings, but the walking tour was well worth the trip.

Two beautiful Spanish cities

Long day, but great trip. Well organized, good guides. Plenty of time to explore and eat. Recommend it if you want to see old Spain

Great experience

Ana was such a sweet knowledgable lady. Enjoy the trip so much with my son planing on doing this tour soon with more family members. The only bad thing was the restaurant at the end food was cold poor quality and very expensive, the price was never advised and they rush you to pick one of 2 sample plates. Safe money by bringing a small snack.

Best trip and excellent guide

The best trip I had in Spain. Amaizing service and the guide was excellent very informative. The trip beging on time and was very organized.

The key to the trip was...

The key to the trip was the Guide. Our guide Pilar was very knowledgeable and informative. Visiting the monuments without the historical background isn't nearly as entertaining and worthwhile as if you have a guide sharing the history and insights into the attraction. Segovia was much more interesting than Avila. My wife and I were glad we took the day trip from Madrid

Disappointed in the working of the sire.

Did not go on this trip because I found the other Avila/ Segovia trip included more. But I got charged for this one also I tried to cancel but the site would not allow me to do so. Upset that I was told I was beyond the cancel time and still got charged over $90.00!

I like Segovia more than Avila

Segovia is more interesting than Avila. Both Sarah and Rafael were great guides although some streets were not easy to walk on. Need better walking shoes, I guess.

Disappointing Day

The guides were not at all the usual engrossing guides we have previously had on our Viator experiences. There was no history or information on the entire bus ride to and from our destination. When we arrived explanations were minimal and the guides never waited for the entire party to catch up. We had little or no explanations throughout the entire days tour. There was no attempt to connect with the group. The worst was that they left nine people behind, they never counted to see if the entire group was back at the meeting place. This resulted in a 40 minute delay in returning to Madrid since they now had to go and find them. We have always used Viator in the past but this was a very disappointing experience.

our guide Raphael was full of humor and even though the trip had a lot of walking he kept us interested and looking forward to the next stop... a well organized tour with a great crew!

Tons of walking

The drive was great, driver unfriendly and grumpy. Onboard gal a fellow, never had a smile or “welcome”. First stop in Ávila, was very difficult to understand. Left the group and did a self tour. Next tour guide in Segovia, was clear and excellent, engaged, informative, funny. And spent explaining as other tours passed us by.

Beautiful cities and great guides

Both cities are worth seeing. Be aware it's a LOT of walking. I didn't get the entrance fees initially. That was a mistake in booking, but you can buy them at the start of the tour. Definitely make sure you include the entrance fees when you book.

Segovia

Excellent narration of history of the many houses and cathedrals by guide, Marta. It was very interesting to learn the timeliness of kings, queens and what each built.

Overall good but 4 Stars Only

There were over 100 people on our tour. The double decker bus we traveled in was comfortable. When we arrived to each city there was one tour guide for 34 people. Our guides, Gloria (Avila) and Daniel (Segovia) were very knowledgeable about their towns. They seemed to know every bit of history there was to know about the place. With 34 people, however, the tours were anything but personal and questions were not encouraged. The tour offered a great way for us to see Avila and Segovia at a reasonable price. The tour was rated a 4 because of the high pressure tactics to purchase the monument entrances through the tour company and the tapa experience. In Avila, when we stopped at Las Murallas restaurant in Avila for the drink of our choice and a tapa, the waiters were in a hurry and pushed water on the guests. For those of us who asked, we were able to have them exchange the water and serve us either beer or wine. The tapa and drink were free. The restaurant tried to push lunch. No one who ordered lunch was happy. They didn't have enough time to eat and didn't care for the food. For those of just having the small tapa, the waiters grabbed our dishes off the table as quickly as possible. Wasn't a comfortable environment. Several of us left and went over to Los Logo's restaurant where we were welcomed.

Very interesting and worthwhile tour.

Roman history in Avila and aqueduct in Segovia. Alcazar was terrific and Segovia a very interesting and beautiful place.

A Long Day, But Definitely Worth the Drive

This was an enjoyable day trip. There were about 80 people divided among 3 guides, so it did get a little chaotic at times. I do think that the trip price should include admission to the various monuments. I ended up paying another 50-ish Euros the morning of the trip, and with a lot of people doing that, I felt it did kind of hold things up. Our bus guide gave full explanations of the cities--twice--for both English and Spanish speakers, and our trip guide was also very thorough and spoke excellent English.

Fun field trip out of Madrid

Great experience with our knowledgeable and helpful guide Beatriz. She was able to get menu changes to meet our dietary needs and spoke well on history of area in English. We did not feel forgotten!! Wonderful photo opportunities despite the cloudy, cold and rainy moments.

So much history and beautiful scenery, a wonderful experience. Beatriz was an excellent guide, the group wasnt too big... totally recommend

Historic and Religious Discovering

The tour to Segovia was pretty quick and the guide didn't explain a lot of things that Gloria (second guide) explained later at Ávila. Ávila is smaller than Segovia but the tour was much more interesting for all the history facts Gloria gave us.

Beautiful Cities to Visit

Avilla and Segovia are worth seeing for sure. This is a large group on a bus that is broken up to three smaller groups once you are in the cities. I don't love large group tours but overall we had a good experience.

Amazing Tour

What an awesome tour. I’m glad I dressed for the weather because it was very cold. However, Raphael was our tour guide and he was amazing. The scenery was incredible!! I would definitely use Viator to book my excursions again when I come to Madrid.

Good but Specific details needed

It was a good experience. I just wish that you would be more specific about the attractions if there will be in one location or not. This is so your customers will be aware where to meet you if they lost the group. Some people can be old and would like to skip some attractions. This is just to give them options.

Awesome Views

The Castle tour was amazing! The Views from Sigovia are Beautiful. Seeing the Aquaducts was inpressive part of history

Well worth the money and time

Hitting both towns was worth the all day excursion. Lots to see with the town tours, including two beautiful cathedrals and the amazing castle. I suggest you add the small bit of extra money for the building tours as it made the trip fully worth the time. Our tour guide Oscar was exceptionally knowledgeable and knew every detail of all the areas inside the town walls. I highly recommend.

Avilla and Segovia tour.

The tour exceeded my expectations. It's worth more than what we paid considering that it lasted over 9 hours. The guides were fantastic and very knowledgeable. The complimentary tapas and drink was a welcome surprise.. That there was no solicitation for gratuities was so unlike the "American tip culture" and we were very happy to give tips to the staff. Very well done!

Good experience

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Rafa, guide for the English-speaking tour was very knowledgeable, helpful and entertaining. Avila and Segovia are phenomenal cities and the walking tours were well-planned.

Had a great experience. So much to see. Guide was great. She knew her history. Lots of walking but the sights were definitely worth seeing.

Good tour, DONT do Monument experience, and pushy

Good tour of the cities albeit a little rushed. Guide had good info. I had a tour guide Rodrigo who put me in the wrong group initially (with the folks who paid for the seperate monuments experience, which i didn’t). Everytime, we entered a monument he would tell me I “cheated” or “didn’t” pay. I’m not sure what I was supposed to do, he placed me in the wrong group and didn’t want me to change groups later, I had no idea. I didn’t appreciate calling me out for his mistake repeatedly in front of the whole tour. I would not recommend the “monuments” experience as it was just 3 cathedrals where entrance tickets are 3 euros, but they charge 30 euros. The experience seemed a quite pushy towards christianity, as someone of another religion. Not to meander on the negatives. On the whole, for the value the tour is worth the money. Saw great roman walls and aqueducts.

Good tour overall but we had not enough free time for ourselves. Also there were some monuments entrance not included in the price.

Aqueducts and churches

Great experience. I really liked Segovia but Avila was cute as well. I didn’t purchase the monument tours so I can’t speak on that but. I say go because the aqueducts in Segovia were so impressive like woooowwwwwwww :)

2 Cities not to be missed

The reason I have given 4 instead of 5 are that the morning boarding bus was really cold expected heating to be put on to make the journey more comfortable. Our guide for the day on the buses but not at the cities we were visiting Carlos sorry to say lacked personality. Struggled when switching from Spanish to English. Avila was lovely the guide very nice & knowledgeable. Think we could have had just a little more free time for perhaps souvenir shopping or extra photos of outside walls. The journey to Segovia took in lovely countryside however the day had warmed up when we were on the journey the heating was on when it should have been on in the morning & we should have had the air conditioner on. Bus did stop for driver to sort this out. The tour of Segovia was amazing the guide Daniel was excellent. The tour is well worth taking if you have a day to spare if visiting Madrid. But don't forget Toledo!!

Segovia

Very interesting and historic tour, the guide Marisol was very informative and excellent on time management. Be prepared for a long day walking since it is a walking tour once you get to the cities. The snack which is included is actually a snack, buy and eat proper meal when ever you get the chance during the breaks.

Excelent experience

The views were amazing. Our tour guy had the knowledge and experience neccesary. The restaurant we stop in Avila was pretty good too.

Great Solo Tour

Carlos (Spanish) and Rodrigo (English) were great tour guides. And both Avila and Segovia were great cities to visit.

Great trip to two great medieval cities!

I loved the tour guide, Oscar, he is a great storyteller. He was wonderful at giving a great overview of historical facts through anecdotes, examples and cultural explanations. Overall, an Exceptional experience.

Too large a group!

Tour guide was great however there were WAY too many people on this tour! And also screaming toddlers. We walked at a snail’s pace and had to stop every few minutes to make sure everyone was there. Very unpleasant.

Good tour. Bad meeting spot.

The tour was wonderful, however it is important to know that the pick up point is quite terrible. The location is practically an ashtray, and you will be accosted by beggars for money the entire time you wait for the bus. This was not the experience we wanted for our child. Once you are on the road, and the tour begins, everyone in the family will have a great time. You will see quite a lot in the cities. For a very long day it moves very quickly. Oscar did a great job.

Improvement is essential

For the meeting point, its a bit far away from the city center but acceptable. However, the shuttle bus was 20 min late and the temperature was very low (3 to 4 degree around) with the chilly wind, we don't expect whole group in 30 ppl around standing outside for that long without caring or rearrange awaiting at a better place. As all the participant is tourist, cloths and accessories may not well planned to suit the wether of Spain, particular caring for participant should be provided. During the visit, the information presented for the places is too general and lack of depth for the true culture behind. Even worse, the information presented by the tour is less than the information shown on the leftlet taken from information center. Some key information was missing. For the skills of English presentation, it should be improved due to the accent of spainsh is too strong for us. Its hard to understand. After the lunch hour around 1:30pm, there is almost no time for rest and no snack time until 4:30pm to 5:00pm. I believe its quite hard for the old man to take over it. It would be good if there is a refreshments in every 1.5 - 2 hours around.
