Avila and Salamanca Tour from Madrid

Ines Lopez and Raul (driver) were polite and knew their job. They provided not only a safe environment for all, but also their knowledge about the places was really good. Highly recommended

Nice day trip!

Really loved the stop at Avila! Gorgeous walled village! Salamanca was quite interesting too! Will love to spend more time at Avila.

Not too happy, lots of wasted time that could be better spent during the tour.

In general, the tour was good, but they wasted a lot of time which left little time to see the last stop Avila. At 9:30am they stopped for breakfast this took 30 minutes out of our time. There was no need for this, and they didn't tell the people to pick something up and go. Then in Avila they stopped us at some cookie store for 30 minutes while we got a sales pitch (I'm sure the tour company got a commission on the sales). Then when I asked if we had time to see explore Avila or see the cathedral, I was told there wasn't enough time. We wasted 1 hour that could have been better used. To be fair our guide Irene was nice and knowledgeable, but I really can 't recommend this tour.

Not great. Sales pitch at the end.

First we were very happy with Irene our tour guide. However the tour was not well organized, we stopped at 930 for breakfast losing 30 min then at our last stop we had a cookie sales pitch at a local store in Avila. We had no free time in avila, the lost hour would have been great. I must think the tour company has a deal with the cookie store. Also the bus was uncomfortable, too small. I don't think I can recommend.

Great guide and wonderful cities!

Our guide Irene was fantastic! She was very knowledgeable and made sure the tour information was always provided in English despite being only 3 of the group of 20 that needed it. The stops for breaks for food/bathrooms/etc were well timed and she had great suggestions for use of our allotted personal time at each place. Highly recommend both historical cities.

My visit to Avila and Salamanca

My most memorable moments were when I arrived in Avila and saw those walls. I was impressed by how they built fortified cities to protect themselves from their enemies and in Salamanca the architecture of the cathedrals, those details whoa! and the fact that Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra sat in the Plaza Mayor, who knows if he didn't find inspiration to write one of his great literary works?

Comfortable bus ride, informative tour guide. Liked having free time. Enjoyed the tour very much! Returned to Salamanca for the first time in many years and lived it!

Salamanca/Avila day trip

Our guide, Cristina, was very friendly and personable. We would have loved more time in Salamanca, but we enjoyed our time in both places.

Avila and Salamanca

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and well prepared. However, we spent more time traveling on the bus than at the sites. My suggestion would be to separate the towns. Just do one town so the customers can really enjoy the sites in that particular town, be able to eat patiently and shop without rushing. I felt everything was rushed!!!

Not worth the money

Mostly was in a bus the whole time and didn’t get to visit that many places or really learn that much history about them. Me and my girlfriend went on like 4 tours and this was honestly the worst and the most expensive out of all of them! I would not recommend this tour.

Excellent cost and benefit

The guide was very attentive, calm and explained all the details of the points visited. He spoke native Spanish and his English was perfect… the bus was comfortable. I don't remember our guide's name, but he deserves all our praise.

Highly recommend Avila

The trip was well organised. The guide would walk the area first before giving you time to explore on your own. Really enjoyed Avila and stopping at the viewing point to take photos before we got to the city was a bonus. The microphone on the first bus did not work and the bus had to be switched but other than that the coach was clean and comfortable.

Excellent but disappointing

María Jesús, the guide was excellent and knowledgeable but I paid for a Spanish tour and had to listen to the Spanish and then the English translation which took half of my tour time. I should get half of the money reimbursed for advertising something that was not right to a.customer who had very limited Time on both cities

Beautiful cities

The driver, can’t remember his name, was excellent. We had bad weather with strong winds and he still managed to give us a smooth ride. I wished our tour guide, I can’t remember his name either, would have given longer talks both in Salamanca and Avila

Fantastic all day trip with ample free time and outstanding guide.

Excellent trip, which was exceptionally well organised. The two towns are beautiful and there is plenty of time to explore, especially if using Madrid as a base, because Avila and Salamanca can be a little tricky to both visit conveniently on a short trip if limited to public transport. Although it was an early start (07:45 sharp from Ventas) the coach journey to Salamanca was 2+hrs, which allowed sleep catchup or to admire the interesting scenery. An interesting food-related bonus activity I wasn't anticipating. Our guide, Ignacio, was fantastic - a real stand out in his field and represented Amigo tours impeccably. He dedicated equal time to both Spanish and English travellers, his knowledge was encyclopaedic, and he was always willing to answer additional questions with same level of knowledge and enthusiasm. Meeting points and timings, location of rest rooms, eating arrangements, and scope for free time were always incredibly clear. I found there to be plenty of free time in both locations, and didn't mind the bilingual nature of the tour because I could take photos/look up additional info/window shop while the Spanish version was being told. Due to some steep and/or cobbled streets; do wear those recommended comfortable shoes, although less than average fitness was completely sufficient and I wouldn't consider the pace as fast. There were plenty of places to sit/perch while spoken element of tour was ongoing if tired feet needed it.

Great guided day

Very nice trip. Good bus and guide. Plenty of free time for lunch and shopping. Great photo opportunities.

Excellent experience.

The great scenery was enhanced by our guide’s knowledge and interesting commentary. The only downside was the lack of adequate air conditioning on the return trip. Otherwise, I recommend this trip to anyone.

Bad experience!!!

I did’t have the chance to enjoyed the trip. Due the meeting point was far from city center, forced to take a taxi or Uber after 5 cancelations and Madrid under construction everywhere, I arrived the point 10 mins late seeing the bus leaved and the tour company doesn’t care and not offered any option to arrived to some point to catch the tour. Also not reimbursement.

Amigos Tour was good. The tour guide was friendly and quite thorough. The Driver was supportive and took the initiative to take a photo for us.

Trip cancelled the day we were supposed to go.

Amigo tours has cancelled two of my tours while in Spain (including Avila and Salamanca from Madrid). They cancelled the tour and suggested to move it a week later when I wouldn’t be in Spain anymore. Plan accordingly. The tours which worked out were great, but be aware that they seem to cancel a lot.

Outstanding Tour of Memorable World Heritage sites

The short walking tours and the info the guide provided us to make maximum use of our time. Both cities are remarkable and well worth a visit.

Outstanding Tour thanks to Khan

2 UNESCO World heritage cities in one day was an amazing trip from Madrid. Loved the amazing walled city of Avila and University Town of Salamanca. I loved the mix of old city and new city in Salamanca. As mentioned in the title, the tour was extra special due to our great tour guide Khan who was fluently bilingual in English and Spanish and gave equal time to both sets of Tourists. Highly recommended if you have 2-3 days in Madrid !!!

Loved Avila, one of the best destinations Ive seen on this trip, the fact the city is still surrounded by the walls is impressive which gives this location a must see historical aspect.... the guide was knowledgeable and avilas famous dessert w egg yolk was a definite surprise.....

Great Visit

We really enjoyed the guide tour to Avila and Salamanca. Nacho (Ignacio) was outstanding. We have plenty of time to visit the Cathedrals and to have lunch in Salamanca. We walked Avila and enjoyed the threats at the Santa Teresa Yolks.

Wonderful way to spend a day!

Salamanca is beautiful, but we were pleasantly surprised at the quiet and remarkable town of Ávila! The guide was great - solid sense of humor and very accommodating to the group. Highly recommend this tour.

Amazing Tour Guides: Ignacio and Irene

Took this tour on 7th Jan. Started on time at 7:45 and reached Madrid at around 6:30. Our guide Ignacio and the driver Irene were the best. Ignacio was very knowledgeable and friendly. Such a gentleman. Gave us enough time in both locations and taught us a lot about the two cities. Irene took good care of us driving smoothly throughout the long distances (approx 450 km roundtrip). Will recommend to everyone. Thanks to both Ignacio and Irene, I have made lots of fond memories of two beautiful cities in Spain.

Our guide Ismail was proficient and friendly. Enjoyed every minute of our trip to the picturesque and historical towns. It's definitely a trip I will recommend 100% while visiting Madrid.

Guided Bus and walking tour of Salamanca and Avila

Enjoyed this tour very much. Our guide was very informative and familiar with both cities we visited. We took in all the important points of both cities. I have Multiple Sclerosis and walk slower than most and with a cane and he kindly slowed the walking rate so I could keep up on the group. It was a relatively small group of 15 persons.

Great cities

The tour guide was very knowledgeable! Both cities were incredible. The ancient walls in Avila were impressive.

Overall a good trip

Salamanca and Avila were both breathtaking for different reasons. We were a little rushed in Avila and not allowed time to go inside basilica of St. Teresa. Unfortunately in the rush to leave some people were left behind.

Disappointed tour that was canceled unexpectedly

Trip Advisor did not notify me on time of cancellation and rescheduled this tour for a date I am unavailable to attend. I reached out to amigo tours directly and was advised I qualify for a FULL refund. I was looking forward to attending this tour and getting to know these two beautiful cities. Very upset the tour was canceled.

Salamanca and Avila from Madrid

The walking tour of Salamanca was interesting and the visit to the Cathedral was fantastic - the new cathedral built around the ancient one. The walled city of Avila really worth visiting. My only complaint was I booked an English speaking tour and it was a bi- lingual tour. At every stop the explanation was in english and Spanish which wasted a lot of time.

It was memorable, Spain is the best full of history..

Salamanca is an spectacular city full of history. I would had preferred to spend more time in Salamanca..

Good taste of two cities, but needed more free time

Nice trip to be able to see Salamanca and Avila in one day. I did not like how the tour was English and Spanish, especially once we got to each city. The walking tour took twice as long to repeat all the info again in the second language, and really cut into the free time to explore. I really wanted more time in Avila to walk around atop the walls. But our guide was very nice, and very knowledgeable about each location.

Beautiful but long day

Salamanca and Avila are beautiful and worth the trip. The tour however could use some revising. Firstly pickup location, instructions should state uproad by bullring side, not just the cross street corner names (or at least to come out and look for clients). Would have liked the maps and some directions during the 2 hour trip so we could familiarise our selves with the area. We were there during heavy rain/windy so maps were mostly useless. The tour guide was pleasant but failed to bring the town (s) alive. Felt that the church in Avila admission should be included.

April's vacation

Salamanca is a wonderful city. It's filled with wonderful buildings filled with history. i wish that I had more time available to feel it.

Pretty towns

I came by myself. I'm glad I joined this group, it was small and the tour guide was energetic about the history. I learned a lot! The towns are small so you get to explore both really well!

Well organized tour with great guide

Stefanie was our tourguide and she was great! She was attentive and eloquent, and gave us great recommendation for lunch. Here is the itinerary of the day: 7:45 take off, no traffic going out of the city 9:30 break for 20 minutes 10:45 arrive in Salamanca, 1 hour walking tour 11:45 visiting the new and old cathedral on your own with an audio guide, the price is included in the tour 13:45 take off for Avila 15:00 arrive in Avila, 30-45 minutes guided walking tour, then explore on your own. The price for the cathedral is not included in the tour. 17:00 leave for Madrid, some traffic entering Madrid 18:40 back in Madrid

Beautiful places, a great guide and bus driver. It was a fun day, full of awesome sights. Our guide was very caring and personable.

Salamanca and Avila

This is a great way to see two beautiful cities in one day. The busses are comfortable and not crowded. The day is very low stress with a nice mix of guided tours and time to explore on your own. Thanks to Pablo for a great tour.

A truly enjoyable and uplifting day!

It was a dream come true for me, as I have always wanted to visit Avila. The visit to Salamanca was very enlightening, gave us a history of the university and how it’s on par with the other very old universities in Europe like Sorbonne.

Very average, lousy bus

Bad: The Bus was lousy and small, very uncomfortable. The same company sent big buses to other tours, while they provided a small one rather very uncomfortable for this one... The guide never stoped talking with the bus driver. At 7:40am and with more than two hours to get there, everyone wanted to sleep. Again I compared the tour from the previous day with this one, and the day before the guide kindly stated that otherwise asked upon, he would remain silent to give us space to sleep on the road. But our guide just kept talking for the complete two and a half hours with the driver. Also, while she was kind and had good explanations at the sites, they were rather short and simple. From over hearing other guides at the sites, we could tell that ours didn't had that much information, which is always interesting to hear.
